[Q] No odin, no adb, no file manager - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys.
I am having a real bad issue with my i9500.
None of my pc (w8, w7)are able to "see" the phone.
So, no file manager, no adb, no odin, nothing.
I am having this in device manager.
When I plug it in, windows make the typical sound but nothing else happens.
I don't know what else to do, I've tried a lot of things including changing ports, changing cable, installing kies, installing a lot of drivers from xda, back to stock and still not working.
I am using Wanams Rom, and cofface custom CWM, rooted.
So I am really in need of help here.
Thanks in advance.

Debugging - Download mode / usb not recognized

So I want to root my phone, but I cannot get ANY computer to recognize the phone when it is in either download mode, or debug mode.
I'm running Sprints stock EB13 right now.
I've downloaded the samsung drivers and installed them.
I've tried 3 computers -- A XP 32bit, a vista 64bit, and a 7 64bit system. I've also tried 3 different cables. Nothing works.
The phone is recognized fine in mass storage mode.
Tried restarting the phone many times, removing the battery, etc.. same with the computer side of things.
I'm out of ideas to try and can't find a good post with a fix.
Thanks for any input!

I wanted to use Odin to go back to DI18 at first. After that didn't work I tried ADB in debug mode, and that no longer works!
I know ADB in debug mode used to work when I was on DI18 because I used it before when I first got my phone. Now I've upgraded to EB13 from the file samsung provided on their website. I've also tried a hard re-set of the phone and that didn't help either.
I had a similar issue. I was able to resolve it by creating a fresh user in windows and then running it from there.

I had this exact problem with my Epic also. I tried rooting my fone too, for like 2 months straight, with no luck... Tried every technique, software, and trick in the book and nothing worked...
2 days ago though, I finally rooted it using this solution:
Forget about trying to "root" it.
Instead, flash the "Stock EB13 Deodexed EXT4 + CW 3.0.0.6" to your fone (search the forum, you'll find it and the thread that explains how to do it).
It's pre-rooted too!
It worked fabulous for me. I am now rooted and well on my way to fully customizing my fone.
Odin is finicky though... I had to switch the usb cord around to several different ports before it recognized my fone. Also, it kept locking up at a certain point in the flashing process, but after moving the image from "Phone" to "PDA" (you'll know what these are once you open up Odin), it worked brilliantly.
Try it, it works!
P.S. Just in case this helps anyone; I should note that originally I upgraded from Eclair to the official unrooted straight from Samsung (before they pulled it) stock Froyo. I loved it, but wanted it rooted.
I read somewhere that it was easier to root it if you reverted back to Eclair first. So I did (search forum for uninstalling Froyo).
And from Eclair, I flashed to the above mentioned rooted and deodexed version of Froyo (EB13).
Hope it helps!

Might try looking at the usb on the phone to check for something preventing a good connection; I've read where people have found bent connectors and were able to fix it.
Good luck; that has to be extremely frustrating.
I tried everything like you, multiple cables, multiple computers, EVERYTHING!!!
I finally broke down and took it to sprint and they couldnt even get it to connect or fix the problem so i got a new epic. You might just want to take it back and get another one. Im on my 3rd epic now so that should tell you something about these ****TY phones...

USB Device Not Recognized.

Hello, I was wondering if someone could help me. My computer no longer recognizes my tablet and says it is an unknown device when I connect it via USB. It won't detect it in odin either. I have the correct drivers installed and have tried reinstalling them and have tried it with different usb cords and different computers with the same result. USB debugging is enabled. I am not sure where to go from here. If someone could please point me in the right direction I would sincerely appreciate it. I would be able to restore functionality to be able to transfer files between my tablet and computer through USB once again.
ROM: BinDroid (Previous was CleanROM and had same issue)
If I download roms through tablet I can install them normally through CWM, and my tablet boots up okay so I am not really "bricked" But I am kind of bricked in the way that I can no longer use odin to flash anything..which is not very good.

No, it is one of the big problems when loading ROMs, bootloaders, etc. Most of the time it is better to fully de-install the driver and then reinstall, as the change of the ROM also changes the perceived device-id by USB (on Windows I presume). I have even seen this happen between HC Stock and ICS Stock...
Odd but true. So, try to de-install the driver (or Kies, including driver) and reinstall (Kies, or just driver). Most of the time that should be enough, but do not hold it against me if that did not solve it.

Here is a possible solution, disconnect device tab/phone, disable your firewall connect device, mine worked, disconnect again restart firewall reconnect device.
this worked for me and also with my s3.
I even tried it with a new computer that has not recognized the device before. I am afraid to use mobile odin as well and I can't backup all my stuff like my pictures and videos. I guess i could use upload to dropbox.

no usb/adb-connection win7x64 and ics

]Hey everybody,
i wanted to switch from cm9 to cm10. after i managed to return to stock rom and recovery and successfully updated to stock ics, still with root available, i cannot connect my tpt to my pc, which is necessary to install adb drivers to further load the new cwm.
i've been trying and reading posts for several hours now, but there is just no way the tpt gets recognized in win7. i always get the message:
'unknown device'. device has been stopped. code 43.'

so far i've tried everything i could find in several posts out there, and yes, sync with pc is enabled as well as usb debugging.
i tried to install android_winsub.inf (both from lenovo adb driver package and the android sdk) and edited it as suggested in some other posts, but still no luck.
i also did a reset and tried it with two other pcs - still no luck.
any ideas?

Hi, are you sure that you heve correct USB IDs added to adb driver (android_winsub.inf)? I found out that it changes when I installed different CWM and CM version. I had similar problem recently.

well, i read about it. it was said that one should just open the 'details tab' (device manager...) and read out the id when plugged in. unfortunately, i get nothing there. so the problem must be somewhere else.
but nevertheless, thank you for your hint/idea.
I have seen this issue before when i have not used the stock USB cable supplied by Lenovo.

I tried several cables, ports and pcs... nothing worked. By now I believe it's my loose mini-usb-port, it's probably still ok for charging the tablet but not for data transfer - it is the only explanation i can think of so far. So sooner or later I might need the dock.
Nevertheless, I managed to install the new cwm and cm10 by using the terminal emulator. So there is no urgent need to get that working again.
Have you tried a wireless ADB app?
This worked for me when ADB via USB cable quit working after flashing a new ROM.

Samsung Galaxy S4 IG9505 Boot Stock-up Problem

Hi everyone,
I just want to ask for tips and recommendations to resolve my problem on my phone. I used TWRP to root the phone but failed and i also used kingo root apk apps on it but still failed. But after that, my phone just shut down and when i open it, it no longer boot and stocked in the samsung logo blinking. I tried KIES and ODIN apps to recover my phone in download mode but my computer didn't detect my phone. I tried also to wipe-up data using the TWRP progam on boot loader. I am not sure if was able to enable the USB Debugging on my device. What i want to try is if i can install the firmware of my phone using the TWRP but i just dont know what to do or what i needed to download. i downloaded the stock firmware of the phone but when i tried the TWRP to install it, it didnt work. I already go to the repair center but they just did what i did and they also failed to do. Please help me guys. I know that lots of members here are generous and willing to help each other. Thanks

Hey there,
First off, you can't flash stock firmware through custom recoveries. It can be done only with Odin or Heimdall.
Second, make sure you use the back USB ports of the computer and also try different windows versions.
Wiping data through recovery doesn't help because root apps are usually installed on the system partition.
You could probably flash a custom rom on it. It will at least get the phone working again. You can go from there.
Good luck.

Thank you.
Is the USB Debugging Option has nothing to do with the computer to detect my phone. The technician told me that they will replace the USB female socket on my phone because it was defective. I will spend much on the replacement yet i'm afraid it might not still work. The idea of installing a custom roms might work as you have said. I will try that.

The computer should detect your device no matter what. I mean, how else would you transfer files between the two, since USB debugging is disabled by default.

Wiped Phone, OS is gone and phone is unrecognized

Hello everyone,
I have wiped everything using the TWR recovery boot option in a really poor attempt to unroot my phone since it was behaving strangely.
Now it look like my OS is gone and the phone cannot be recognized anymore by my PCs even if I install the appropriate drivers manually.
Since it is no longer possible for me to attempt to flash the phone with a stock firmware using odin, I have attempted transfering the file on the phone using the sd card and installing it through the TWR recovery menu however it does not seem to be a possible option.
Does anyone have any advice to propose to restore the phone with a working OS?
It should still be able to load a recovery file from TWR, I am just unsure where I could get these since they differ from ROMs available everywhere else, I can also make change directly to the device drive using the file explorer so worst case scenario, I suppose it could be possible to copy past all the content of an image over there via the sd card.
Thanks
what happens when you put it into download mode and connect it to a computer? can you even get to odin mode? there is a way to ADB an OS onto it , but its pretty particular and usually not necessary.

The download mode seems functionnal on the phone, however the phone is not recognized by any PC which render it useless. My guess is that some files or driver on the phone side got deleted and it is no longer sending the right information to the machines it connects to.
Loading ADB into the OS seems like a neat idea, I didnt know it was possible. I am just unsure if flashing from within the phone is functionnal, my guess is that it probably work, but it is perhaps just a little riskier than doing it from an external device.
Thanks, I will try that, if you have any further advice, let me know
Edit : Oh I just realized you said to ADB an OS into it, yeah I don't thinks its possible, since nothing recognize the phone.
Have you uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers on your computer? Tried a few different computers? And, more likely to be successful, a few different cables?

Yes, it also worked perfectly fine a minute before everything get wiped. I am pretty confident the only way to get it back working would be to copy the files into the phone manually, I am just unsure what files I should copy to the root since I have never seen how it usually look.
That's weird because I don't know of a way to wipe stuff in such a way to remove the capability of Odin connecting to a computer

Hmmm I went on cyaogenMod and installed it on my device using the sdcard. Unsure why the stock OS wouldn't work, but at least now the phone is functional.
The phone is still not recognized but it seems like it is slightly better, it now displays as Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed). Which is better than getting disconnected right away from the computer. Now it probably just is a matter of fixing the drivers or the phone further since I have messed around a lot since everything stopped working.
Alright thanks a lot, it didnt occur to me that I probably could install other roms. Im still unsure whether or not I should stick with it but thats the least of my worries right now
