Blurry picture in Skype video - Xperia Z General

I have blurry picture in Skype video calls using rear camera while the camera itself is fine when taking pictures. Is this a known issue. Any fix for this?
Previously Nexus 4, Currently Xperia Z

I guess skype uses VGA res for bandwidth purposes..perhaps you notice it more on 1080p than on 720p ?

Even the hangout video calls have bad quality..the iPhone has much much much better quality.

Nexus 4 720p/1080p video samples...

I know the device isn't out just yet, but I was wondering if anyone has seen a sample of Nexus 4 camcorder yet? (Front & Back). I rely heavily on my cameras for work & for other reasons & not to bash the G-Nex, but the camera sensor on this device is a little underwhelming to say the least. I heard the camera hardware was based off of the AT&T 8mp Optimus G, but I'm not sure if that's an actual spitting image of what we can expect from the N4.
Any links or input would be greatly appreciated in advanced. Worst case scenario, 10 days isn't too far away!
Here you have some video samples:
Hope is what are you looking for :good:

Thanks sooo much for the quick reply with content. The actually image quality is quite an improvement, but my problem lies with the FPS & the audio to a certain extent. I wasn't expecting perfection, so I'm overall happy with what we have here. I'm sure it'll get better between camera mods & software updates. Thanks again.
The mic makes the video so crap, I tried to record video with my GS2 once upon a time and it was far worse than my old iPhone 4 which had such amazing audio quality. I mean I went to Reading last year and the iPhone 4 was super clear, picked up good bass and sounded great but the GS2 just sounded like I was rubbing a plastic bag over the mic and the bass just killed the mic all together.
So if the audio sucks then there is no point to it shooting video tbh. I just have a separate camera though so it doesn't bother me too much though.
I would love it if someone uploaded the original video file from the phone. Youtube seems to always use an aggressive compression on user uploads, I rarely see good 1080p videos on the site, even from pro cameras.
Make sure to go fullscreen when watching the video and turn your youtube video to 720p HD.
Can anyone help ....
I get HEAVY compression artifacts on the video recordings at 1080p on the nexus 4 itself - even when I upload to the PC. The sound and video is compressed sounding too.

Sony Xperia Z - Multimedia focus

Hi all,
for those of you interested in the Xperia Z, or just curious to know how does this device takes pictures and video, or even how does is behave in reproducing different video file format, well, just give a look to this dedicated focus:
http://youtu.be/YvGcwp17wUk
For those interested into HDR video capabilities, here you are a non HDR video
http://youtu.be/qIDrtet2mw4
and the same scene recorded via HDR video
http://youtu.be/oPbFmXbw5ZI
You can see that there's a very noticeable difference in brightness between the two videos!

Really glad it's useful!
Yes, I must admit that I was some kind of skeptical before I tried the HDR video recording. But then, it does make the difference in certain situation!

[Q] Nexus 4 1080p Recording Vs 1080p Mkv

hello guys ,i want to ask if someone can explain this to me.
Nexus 4 records videos at 1080p in mpeg4 with 12Mbps
Movies we download etc are 1080p in mkv with 3-6 Mbps
The question is why do movies in mkv look so much better ??..is it a compression/container issue ?
Thanks !
Because the camera is crap..IMO.

besides that looking at the info from the 2 videos, theoretically nexus recordings must look better.
but i'm pretty sure i'm missing something significant in this comparison that's why i asked if someone who has more knowledge on this, can give me an explanation ...
The camera lens, and light sensors are no where near the quality of Hollywood cameras. The bitrate supports the quality but the camera can never deliver it. Its like the megapixel fight with still cameras. A 3 megapixel camera with a great lens and iso sensor can completely blow away a compact 14 megapixel camera with only so so hardware.

thanks man ! i guess we can blame the crappy lens for this one ...i think this explains why s3 or htc one x videos are looking way better despite having a lower bit rate than nexus 4 videos ....
Exactly the lens and camera sensor quality is more important than the pixel account. I saw to many cheap 14 mega pixel cameras pictures that are worst than good 3 mega pixel pictures took with good old cameras. My Nexus 4 doesn't beat my old Pantech Element pictures...On the PC you see the differences.

You cant compare. Such type of compare is irrelevant.
Movies are captured with professional cameras like RedOne at 4k resolution without heavy compression in raw format, further being processed and compressed by professional encoding softwares and so on...
Nexus 4 uses commercial consumer compression algorithm on the way, thus the output result is obviously worse.
That's is one of the major differences.

Slow-Motion Capture

So I recently discovered that my wife's iPhone takes amazing slow-motion video. I've been doing some research and I'm not entirely sure that this is possible to do on the Nexus 5 because the frame rate on the iPhone slow-mo is 120fps and I'm not sure the N5's camera can actually do that. Is it possible? Are there apps that do this already? I am a volleyball coach and this would be extremely helpful. I've already tried the Coach's Eye App and while it is ok, it works with the standard video frame rate and thus produces video with lots of blur and choppiness. The functionality of the app is great but the video quality is lacking.
I think the N5 SoC is capable of 720p/120fps, but not sure the rest of the camera hardware can. If so, then maybe we'll see it in the future.
