Is there anyway I can select text like with the cursor and have an option for my phone to read what I highlighted? There's an option for it on iOS and I was wondering if you could on android somehow but couldn't figure it out if you can.

Nope. I'm pretty sure this feature only works with Google Books.

For the life of me I can't figure out how to star an item in Google map on this device.I don't see a star located anywhere on the interface except as a possible layer.
good point..
You'll find it in the settings tab.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I feel like that is an incredibly convoluted way to add a star. However, thank you for the help and showing me where it is.
I typically just long press where I want to star, and open the pop up, there's a star to check in the box.

Is there a setting or limitation to certain locations that can be starred? Or a sequence that needs to be followed because I tried selecting a location then clicking on the 3 vertical dots but do not see the Add Star option. Thanks.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
By the way, I did a search for Virginia and the ability to add the star shows up without having to go into the settings or 3 vertical dots menu. This is quite odd and inconsistent behavior correct?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Ok I figured it out. Looks like you need to use the Clear Map function sometimes then click on the location you want to get the Add Star option to appear.

Siri Proxy allows you to control additional devices with a Siri device. So I thought there must be something similar available for Android.:fingers-crossed:So we can also control our garages with Android devices

Can't this be done with Google Now? Seems like it would be a feature.

I have been wanting something like this as well.
To have an application to do this though, you would have to have two parts two it.
First part would be an app on your Android device, and the other part would be something that runs on a computer @ the house.
Reason for this is because you would want a secure connection between your phone and the app. Otherwise, anyone/everyone would be able to access your home automation system.
If there is anything like this, that would be awesome, but I don't think there is
The closest thing you can get to it is HomeSeer, but it isn't voice activated. It's only buttons.
If anyone knows of a program that would do voice activation home automation, please let me know!
Hey guys, just thought I should check in. Seems like this forum is beginning to die. Has anyone got any new things that they would like me to test on my continuum?

Just in the past few weeks I quit using it. I've been trying to get it to work with groove ip lite. So far it works just not with the stock dialer.

I use google voice, do I click on use google voice for all calls?
Why doesn't grove ip work? I use that on my dna sometimes.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
Groove ip works but not with the default dialer, was simply trying to streamline the look. It actually works really well, so right now I'm just asking more for improving aesthetics.

Well I don't think it does use stock dialer at all. Stock dialer uses verizons ish. Groove has its own operations and google voice to call and text just uses voice. I'm pretty sure u can take out the dialer and just use groove and voice

Also thought I should share my nifty sms app I have been using.
It's called ninja sms and I got it for 1$ at the play store and I love it. Should check it out of you text quite a bit and don't want to continuously change between apps. It allows the sms to come up on the screen. Kind of like multi boxing on the s3
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda premium
My lcuid 2 has that ability where the text will pop up and allow me to respond, delete or view without leaving the app. It is a super awesome feature.
Yeah I wish my dna had it stock but ninja sms is good for me.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda premium
Does ninja have a character count? My pop-up has a character limit, if I go into the native messaging app I can type as much as I want and it will break it into multiple messages, the pop up only allows for a single message response. I haven't decided if I like that or not. I guess it really depends on I can use that to tweet.
When I text I can send more than 120 characters and on my screen it only sends as one message. You could try it out and always refund if you don't like it.

Yeah just took a look at it and sent a large message and it sent as one huge message and didn't split into different messages. You can view a text that is more than 160 characters as long as it was sent as one big message. I don't believe it has a limit. As far as I can tell it doesn't split it up.

So I really like the way ubuntu looks. Since my dna is locked and I have no access to unlock or root the phone via software method all I can do is jtag, however I'm not going to do that so I can't flash anything. Since I love the way ubuntu looks I decided to theme my phone after it using a launcher and a ton of custom widgets. Here is what I came up with.

It's available on the backend, but you've got to actually run apps that support the new features (it's all part of GCM if you want to look it up, replacing C2DM). Even Google's offerings using GCM though (Hangouts, looking at you!) are really...weird about it.
For text messages try Mighty Text. Just install it on both your android phone and the nexus 7

I've found a great app for me. NotiSync. The only negative point is, that this app only uses bluetooth. But its great, that i can configure custom apps
If someone have a similar app but per wifi, pls talk to me

Agree, Mightytext developer's really made my day a lot easier! Getting notified of SMS, MMS & calls that's incoming. Sure lot's of Apps gives the simular functions, but the great thing about MT is that you could have a tab running in your browser and get notified on the computer also, and that you can answer/create msg directly from N7 or webbrowser. Smooth is that it runs on your 3G/4G, so you'll not have to use bluetooth or wifi and flipping it on and off etc. Sure if you wanna use the wifi @ home on your phone, MT will of course use that route. Probably the most beloved product for me, because having long conversation over SMS is just dumb. When you have a keyboard that makes me input data that much faster, but not everyone is thinking like me Glad that's not the case though! hehe..
Best regards,
H.

Since I bought the new Nexus 7 (2013), I want to give my original Nexus 7 to my daughter.
The problem is that she is three years old
So, I want to prepare the home screen for her...
Put all the games shortcut...
Then somehow hide or remove the app drawer...
Make it like kiosk mode
But, I can still reactivate back the app drawer. I don't know, probably via specific gestures or button combination.
Is there any way to achieve this? Special launcher?
Thanks

Yeah... You could use something like apex and delete the app drawer shortcut

If I delete it, I cannot go to the app drawer anymore.
Is there anyway to password it?

you can just delete it, whenever you need it again, all you have to do is add a launcher shortcut to the homescreen and choose appdrawer.
You could use multi-profiles and create one that's restricted to those specific apps only

Kids Mode
My 5 year old has access to my N7 and I use Kids Mode. It has saved my N7 from numerous actions 5 year olds make.
All you need to do is just have the Kids mode on the home screen, she can choose it and everything pops up and the tab is then shut down to what ever you dont allow access to.
It is the best $10 I have ever spent!! Or free if you dont want to really hone into the full features of the app.
There are a few apps like kid lock(famingo) that work well for this. UT defaults to the app, but you can unlock it and use it like normal.
