[Q] Kies, Odin or whatever

Hi all,
I was wondering wy do We need to use a Windows box (virtual or emulated it doesn't meter) to install Our firmware updates (roms) in a linux based system, its kind of a frustration for Me, I use linux for about 7 years and I had to install a virtualbox with WinXP just to update My phone, or am I missing something??
is there an app that runs natively thought linux?

Is there a way to run ubuntu if you have NAND Android on your device?
Also, is it possible to run ubuntu if you have installed wp7 in nand?
afaik, you need to launch harret.exe from winmo in order to get ubuntu running

There are many native Ubuntus for several tegra 2 tablets so that can be a start point.

Hey guys, i wanted to ask if anyone had managed to install windows or ubuntu images on our Defy with CM7 running on it.

i heard that someone run Ubuntu on his phone, but it's very difficult to use it, because of touchscreen interface. I think that running windows is impossible on this phone, except some WP7 mods i would suggest staying on Android

Yep, I have run Ubuntu. It is basically run by mounting an ubuntu image to a loop device mount point. And the GUI is accessed using vnc. Dunno about windows!

You can also try out windows..bt its just windows 95 desktop version..
And pretty easy to achieve

[Q] Possible to run native Linux on N4?

With Multiboot available on the Nexus 4, is it possible to somehow Boot into a Linux distro?
I am aware of the chroot solutions, but what i am searching for is a way to boot a distro from the internal sdcard.

Curious why you would? I guess better control and privacy but does a phone distribution beyond Android even exist?
