So I have had my Samsung Galaxy S4 for the past two days. I was wondering if anyone noticed this issue or is it just mine. I've noticed it lags after I wake it up from sleep. It feels like the CPU hasn't kicked in yet until a few seconds later. Then it runs smooth.
So anyone else with this problem or just mine?

Personally I haven't noticed that at all, but some others suggested turning off any bloatware you don't intend on using helps resolve it. Just go to your settings > More > App management, go to all, and disable each bloatware app you want.
There are a TON of threads already discussing this..
Yes there is lag..
1. Root
2. Disable / freeze all the crapware
3. Go to developer options
3a Turn off 'Window animation scale'
3b Turn off 'Transition animation scale'
3c Turn off 'Animator duration scale'
4. Select 'Force GPU rendering'
It helps a lot but even with doing all this there is still some lag..

Thank you - made a noticeable difference for me. On a side note, does this affect any "user experience" adversely?

Shouldn't, just depends on which apps you get rid of. I basically got rid of all AT&T Bloatware.

Hey guys the video above will eliminate some of the "lag" that people see the other tweak to make is disable S-voice from activating on the Home button double press, by default when you press home once it waits a moment for the second click for s-voice. Disable that in the s-voice options and you will notice going home is MUCH more responsive.
This same tweak worked on the S3 and Note 2.
If anybody with S4 needed this explanation, they should instantly sell it!!!
I mean turning off animation how to...WOW...such enlightenment, this is older than whole Galaxy family wohohoho :silly:
OP beg mods to delete this "revolutionary" thread
Oldest trick in the book
1. First, install the ota updates and reset the device.
2. Then:
' LAG ISSUES CAN BE IMPROVED, READ HERE:
Turn on developer options by tapping "build number" found in the "about" section within options 7 times. Once developer options are turned on, scroll down to window animation transition animation, animator duration and turn each one off. You will notice no more lag for scrolling and exiting apps. To solve the home button issue where there is lag, go to S voice. Once in S voice, hit the menu button left of the home button. Choose to not initiate S voice by double tapping the home button. You will notice considerable changes in speed of the home button to wake up the screen.'
3. Oh yeah and also, don't use Chrome. Get Dolphin Browser. Much faster, no choppiness, and better on the battery.

this worked great! I was wondering how to find the developer options.:good:
Does pressing the home button bring up My Magazine like it does on the Note 3? I've disabled this from app settings to remove the home button delay but you can still bring it up by swiping up on home screen.
I don't mean to poop on this thread, but the exact same things were covered on this forum already.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2479320
But if anyone is too lazy to look at another thread, another thing you can do is disable the unlock screen effects and just have a normal unlock screen. The ripple affect takes up about 50+mb of ram and requires CPU and GPU usage for its effects.

I just turned the lock screen off totally. Kind of pointless for me on a 10 inch tablet.
Also I have not done a factory reset for any on the 3 ota updates. Are the improvements that big because mine is pretty snappy as is.

I have not needed to perform any factory resets either. My tablet has been fine.

As far as I am briefly see, that thread doesn't cover entering developer mode and disabling animations, or disabling svoice.

I have tried and it does improved the speed and smoothness on our stock Note 4. The beauty is we don't need root and very easy to do. Enjoy!!

Yeah I applied all of these on day 1 of getting my Note 4(after watching this video). Thanks for sharing though:good:
Grrrr, damn work sonic firewall blocking my YouTube accessibility. Guess when time permits, I will switch over to "Data" on the Note 4 and try to watch the vid. :silly:

Nice to hear. If you drop all 3 animations in developer settings down to zero, it's even quicker. Some people like a little transition so they keep it at 0.5x
Definitely helped. Forgot about some of these options. Hadn't been on TouchWiz for a while. Thanks again!
Cliff notes for those that can't YouTube:
1. Change Animation Scale - Enable Developer mode under Settings > About phone > 'Build Number' (tap until developer menu active), under developer menu update Window/Transition/Animator to 0.5x
2. Disable S Voice Launch from Home Key - open S Voice, settings, open with home key double press option (I think this is disabled by default on Verizon version because mine was already off).
3. Disable Briefing app and home screen animations - Long press multitask button, settings, uncheck briefing app and animations set to none.
4. Disable unwanted pre-installed apps - Go to App drawer, settings, uninstall/disable apps option, pick and choose as desired.
I used to do this on my note 3. Good video. Hope this transcript helped. Thanks.
Nicely done @h3ck...Thanks!!
You need to keep developer options on, if you turn it off, it resets the animation settings, noticed this for the Verizon version

+1 Correct bro!!
Hi Guys
Over the last couple of days I've been having problems with my screen jumping a little bit when i either close an app (with the exception of chrome) to return to the home screen or if I'm in the settings and i go back a page (it jumps every time i go pack a page).
If leave the phone in sleep mode for a while, when i unlock it everything works ok for the first 5-10 seconds and then it goes back to jumping if i close an app....etc
I've been doing a bit of googling (is that a word....lol) and there's a few people with the problem but i cant find any fixes.
I'm guessing that it could be that something on the motherboard has overheated but this is just a guess.
If anyone has any ideas then please let me know ?
Also I've found a temporary cure for when it happens when i close an app by installing nova launcher and going into the “look and feel” settings and enabling “slide Up” under the “App Animation” setting.
But does anyone know of an app that will allow me to change the transition effects of windows ?
Thanks guys

you've said that you have nova launcher installed...
nova settings > desktop > scroll effect (premium version offers more transition effects)
also, go to device settings > developer tools > and set animation scales to 0.5 instead of 1
if you don't have developer options under device settings, do the following:
1. open settings menu
2. go in "about phone" submenu
3. there go in "software information" submenu
4. click 7 to 8 times quickly on "build number"
5. developer tools should now be showing just above the "about phone” in settings
DO NOT change anything else there besides that animation scale values
Thanks for the reply
Yes i have nova installed and i have it set on cube but thats just for the home screen.
What i need is an app that will let me change other screens.
For example the screens in settings.
The strange thing is that the screen only seems to jump when im going back (i think its the zoom out effect).
Ive just found an app called xuimod that u think has the oprion i need.
Ill post back if it works
Well guys....
It turns out i can do everything with xuimod so i dont even need to keep nova.
But i dont think this fix is going to last if the jumping gets worse.
So is there any known fix for the jumpy screen ?
Anyone ?
Its like a VERY mild form of whats happening to this guys phone:

after updating all apps in galaxy app store yesterday, I know long receive a pop up menu after long pressing an app on my home screen or app drawer, I cannot remove apps from my home screen. I seen two more users w similar problem here:
https://forums.androidcentral.com/s...s/829884-no-pop-up-menu-apps.html#post5947148
I had the same problem. Do you have developer settings enabled and animations disabled? I did, and when I turned animations back on, it popped back up.
Thank you, that solved the problem for me...
