Does your TF300 suffer banding. Recently I RMA'd my TF300 due to banding/lines on the settings gradient background.
Does yours suffer this problem?

Yes, have that issue with most dark gradient backgrounds.
Some look OK though.
I don't mind much; readability is not affected.
And having grown up with CGA graphics, it is more than fine for me!

Happens to me too. Was annoyed at first then it was okay.. now that I'm back on CROMI I forgot how smooth it used to be
Thanks for the replies.
Feel bad that I RMAd my tablet for nothing though
Will they just send it back to me?
This has to be a 4.2 issue, because I just upgraded mine last night and the banding is horrible now. It was not like that on 4.1.2

I agree. I rolled mine back to 4.1 to see if the banding was there and it was non-existent. My Nexus 4 doesn't suffer blockiness though.

Well your nexus 4 has a MUCH different build of 4.2. So of course it won't have the same bug. As for fixing it, I installed CROMI-X and the banding was gone... I believe someone said it was because of the bravia engine. The bravia engine makes graphics clearer so it makes sense. Search around, I bet you can add the bravia engine to your favorite ROM. Hope that helps

Yeah since upgrading to 4.2 I have noticed the banding on my device. I only see it though on certain grey backgrounds and its not too distracting.

The TF700 doesn't suffer from the same issue either. Hope it gets fixed :fingers-crossed:
I only upgraded to 4.2 yesterday and one of the first things I noticed was colour banding on dark backgrounds. I installed CROMI 4.3 but it didn't cure the problem on some apps. I found it to be particularly annoying on one app with a black background but by disabling Force GPU rendering in Settings > Developer options completely cured the problem for this app. I'm not sure if it works for everything because I have now downgraded back to the 4.1 bootloader, I only upgraded out of curiosity.

Maybe it's because of the rendering drivers.

Better clarity and Images
I totally agree with you now the view seems to be closer to I phone.
The Images and letters are so clearly defined
+1.

yes ive noticed this too, think they increased the sharpness by around 50 like you can do on the soft screen tuner app by wql
Screen after ICS
Hi, the screen and resolution difference was the first thing i noticed after installing ICS update. Games like minisquadron, which pre update were very banded now look perfect.
The update definitely included a major rework to screen/graphic drivers.
Yes sir. I thought it was just me, but wow at 280dpi its just splendid!

I turned my phone on earlier to find an automatic software update notification. So I downloaded it and installed it and it turned out to be ICS XXLQ2. Fantastic.
I have to say the phone is so much smoother now, I am using Go Launcher which was always quite laggy when swiping through home screens, now with ICS it is as smooth as butter.
Also love the new transitions between apps. The colour banding seems to be so much better too, although it's still not quite perfect. For example, my blue Go lock screen had terrible banding, really terrible, but now it's perfect. The bad colour banding on the backgrounds of angry birds has also disapeared. But on some of my own photos it is still there although not quite as bad.
Loving all the little tweaks, like the new swipe to close task manager, writing with the spen in s note is much smoother and more responsive. S Note is great. Apps open much faster.
Overall a great improvement to GB.

Give it a couple of days to see what you think. I was not impressed with the battery life, the number of crashes or that the phone got so hot in my pocket it was uncomfortable.

I posted something asking if it was ics, then reread and realised it was.
As this kernel is outside of the lp lot, are you willing to try wipe by wipe to establish if it's affected? Just kidding, certainly not worth it but hopefully this has the emmc bug written out.

Hey everyone, so I set smart dimmer off but it doesn't help. I turn on my tablet and it's always washed out and quite a bit of ghosting. Anyone know any way of fixing it?

Same here. I sent it back. Ordered a new one a couple of weeks later from another place, same issue.
There are many articles and threads about this problem, but unfortunately Google and ASUS seem to ignore it. And even here on xda, people get defensive about their Nexus 7 and downplays the problem, attacks DisplayMate for scientifically illustrating the problem etc.
It annoys the hell out of me because I _want_ to love the Nexus 7, I _want_ to _want_ to keep it. It has great hardware, great software and even the IPS screen is great, but unfortunately the end result is a display that is seriously miscalibrated. The simplest calibration tests of black level, shadow detail, white crush and saturation and intensity (especially of the green primary) shows the major issues. Worst, it is obvious in daily use all the time.
I probably will end up sending this second Nexus 7 back as well and buy something with a half-decent visual experience.
use this:

or try a kernel which has tegra prism disabled

I already have PRISM disabled. It helps a tiny bit but does not begin to solve the problem at all. Gamma, white crush, green saturation and intensity, contrast etc. still looks like something from 5+ years ago.
And there are a billion threads about this on the internet. I wish Google would take it serious, but...

I don't know if I go lucky but when I went to safe mode and turn my device of overnight then in the morning I no longer experience this problem. Note I experienced your problem for 3 months and just yesterday the issue was resolved simply by doing what I stated. Good luck let me know what happens

I recently installed cm10.1, and noticed banding on the settings menu, and a weird patchiness in certain menus.
I'm not very good at being descriptive, and pictures speak a thousand words, so please see attatched.

I assumed this was a cm10.1 bug, what with it not being finished, but turns out stock 4.2 does this.
Are there any remedies to this?
Bump
It is common, not sure if it is a cm10.1 issue, or a nexus 7 issue, or a 4.2.1 error
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Doesn't seem like too big of a deal, but you could try installing a theme and see of that fixes it if you're bothered and on cm10.
Turns out its by design implemented by google, its simply a terrible image created by them. This guy has a fix though http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2052598
xda n7
Its by design?! They really dropped the ball on 4.2.
Thank you for the link to the thread.
I noticed this as well and at first, it had me worried my screen had internal injuries or something.
Then I turned it to landscape and the issue rotated with it, so I was like "Oh, that's strange."
It has to be a 4.2/CM10.1 issue, as my phone (though less apparent) has it too.
Is it me, or did the display improve? I can see some difference, better coloring and saturation.. Anyone else..

Lol be interesting to see when I update. It is possible they could have tweaked it a little though
Hmm, looks exactly the same to me.
On what color profile are you on?
I think my colors are a bit more punchy and saturated now as well, just done update.
Will check if my GF will see any difference as hers phone is updating now...
When I powered up my brain said, display seems different, but after usage I can't tell anymore.

I think you are right. I've just checked the Electric Sheep wallpaper - it stopped looking like old, worn out, colourless rug.
Colours are the same, no mention of any colour improvements in the changelog anyways.

That's possible, there were about 59 bug fixes from what I read.....One thing for sure that was fixed is the FPS....much better :good:
I can guarantee i can see no improvement whatsoever i am using saturated mode from day 1

I notice zero difference in my case.
Nope screen is still mediocre
I noticed that black crush was slightly better after the March update. Watching the HDR sheep video the dark parts weren't completely black. Also, that black box test I compared what boxes I was able to see compared to others and I was able to see the darker boxes

I'm on natural color scheme and what I noticed was the black background I use for wallpaper seems, well, blacker. It might not be a color improvement but rather a contrast one...
I agree. I noticed sharper images too
I feel like things look better too.. unfortunately my battery life is awful
