N7 Charger on N4 - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I think i know the answer but i am just after a bit of reassurance.
Is it ok to charge my Nexus 4 using the Nexus 7 charger given the extra current involved?
My understanding is the Nexus 4 will just ignore the extra output but i would feel much better if this could be verified and backed up.

Yes it's fine because it's the phone that decides how much current to draw from the charger.

Cheers, thats what i thought but best to be safe, thanks

[Q] Using Gnex charger with my Nex7 (and vice versa)

Hi,
I just bought a Nexus 7 and noticed that it has a different charger than the Android smartphones I have, e.g. Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus. However, the connection is still the same.
My question is, is it safe to use a smartphone charger with my Nexus 7, just to have less stuff lying around? Is it safe to use the 7's charger with my smartphone? Will I break my devices if I do it?
Thanks!
Perfectly safe. The Nexus charger puts out slightly more current than most phones, worst case it will charge them slightly faster, just as a phone charger will be a little shower with the tablet.

You won't break your devices, but it would take an extraordinarily long time to charge your N7 with the phone's charger. Conversely, the phone is not going to charge exponentially faster using the tab's charger. So, all in all, wile it's not ideal, you won't be hurting anything.

So I can just keep my Nexus 7 charger and use it for every other gadget, and put the other chargers into a drawer? That's nice to know, thanks guys.

The phone won't charge any faster using the N7 charger, but the tablet on the phone charger would be significantly slower- to the point that even moderate use while plugged in would result in still draining the battery. Assuming no use while charging, the tablet would require several hours more than normal for a full charge.

I disagree, my galaxy prevail charges twice as fast on my n7 charger than with a standard phone/car charger. However my n7 does take forever on the phone/car charger. Literally like 8hrs+ to reach 100%.

Check the 'mA' or 'A' rating on the charger.. The higher it is, the faster it will charge.
the charger I got bundled with Nexus 7 is outputing 2A (2000mA to be exact), which is quite higher than most phone chargers
(I've got chargers with standard 500mA & with 800mA).
I've been using the Nexus 7 charger for charging my ZTE Blade and nothing seems wrong using it..
A phone's charging circuit will automatically restrict the current to the specs needed by the phone.
PS: 'A' stands for 'Amperes' & 'mA' stands for 'milli Amperes ', both are units of measuring current.

Charging nexus 10 with galaxy note 2 charger

OK guys I got my nexus 10 last night and I finally killed the battery thru this morning .first time charging it and instead of using the stock charger I'm using the note 2 charger .in one hour its at 20 % and I haven't touch it and the tablet is on .I have nfc turned off and wifi is still on .I also had disabled Google currents and Google + (I don't use Google +) .Is this fast ?I don't know charge times with stock charger cuz I havent used it yet

Have you tried charging the note with the Nexus 10 charger?
No but since u brought it up, I'm on it lol

I'm able to play on my nexus 10 and its charging still gaining juice however it slows it down some on gain .its acting like my galaxytab 10.1 which I didn't have problems with

Oh and another thing ,I don't use Google currents anymore either .its nice but I had on my old phones and THAT APP IS A BATTERY SUCKER FROM HELL !

OK some research ...
1.the charger is fine that comes with the nexus! It charges average. Roughly 6 -7 hours to a full charge
2. Note 2 charger is about the same with nexus charger with charging time. Maybe barely faster!
3. With original charger: I'm easily ,constently on my nexus playing videos, downloading, browsing, etc!its not hurting my charge and not decreasing any charge time. I wanna say its partial blame to a certain app called GOOGLE CURRENTS! Without disabling it, constantly runs background and killing battery. Have GPS on google maps constantly running background killing some juice.
4.nfc turned off as I wouldn't use it. I'm sure this is helping my battery
I did just get my nexus 32 gig on the second batch when they became available again on google play. Could there be a bad 1st batch considering the stuff I'm reading on complaints ,possibly. I can only compare my old galaxy tab 10.1 wifi 32 gig to my new nexus and both battery charge times about on par with each other. Galaxy tab edges out barely on time and lasting juice.
Take my observations for what it worth ...just my experience with this tab

I am just using my note 2 charger. Before I did I made sure the ratings were the same so I knew there were identical. I once tried charging my note 2 with an older charger and it was SLOW.
I've only charged the N10 once but my time from around 2% to fully charged was consistent with what had been reported as normal here.
So do the chargers for the Nexus 10 and the Galaxy Note II have the same ratings\amperage output? The reason I ask is that I have a UK Note II charger but a US Nexus 10 charger and here in Ireland the UK one works without having to go out and buy an extra adapter. I would ideally like to use the Note II charger to charge the Nexus 10 without having to go an pay for an adapter, I would rather spend the money on a nice case for the Nexus 10
Cheers,
M

Look at the Amp rating on note ii charger.
If it's 5v 2A, it's the same thing, and will charge nexus 10 equally. If it's less, it's slower.

Thanks dude, it's exactly the same Amp rating as what is on the Nexus 10 charging block so it looks like this is what I will use going forward! Could not be arsed spending money on a European plug adapter when I could spend it on a Pogo charger
All the best,
M
Anyone has any heating isuse using note 2 charger on nexus 10? Top left near camera... I didn't use the tablet... just place there and charge...

[Q] HELP! Using Nexus 7 Wall Charger on Nexus 4?

Hi, there. Can someone help me on this issue please, I am new here.
I have a Nexus 7 Wall charger at 5V 2AMPS and I want to use it on my Nexus 4 5V 1.2A. Would it be okay to do so, without damaging the battery? Does the kernels control how much current goes to the Nexus 4?
I have no choice but use the Nexus 7 Wall charger because the one that came with Nexus 4 was defected. I called Google but they said I would have to return the whole thing, but I don't want to since, who knows, the Next one may have a bad phone instead.
Google Play told me using other phone adapter would be fine, but they didn't know about Nexus 7 Wall Charger.
It would be great if someone could give me some advice, Thank You!

It will work, most phones would limit the power draw from the source to make sure battery charge at the proper rate. If you use a custom kernel with fast charge enabled, you will degrade the battery quicker.
I've used about 6 different chargers on this, gnex, and others including the nexus 7. They all work fine, but slower ones just charge slower.

different charger amp levels

I recently bought the nexus 4 and have been having a blast with it. For a little while I lost the USB charger in my house, so I started using my iPad charger for it. Since the stock nexus 4 charger has an output of 1.2 amps 5v DC and the iPad charger has 2.0 amps 5v DC would prolonged use of the iPad charger possibly affect how long the battery last since it charges it faster then normal, or am I just being stupid and its fine to use the higher amperage charger?
There is a lot of threads explaining this but I'll explain the best I can higher amp equals quicker charge however gets the battery hotter so the battery life could be affected

It is the phone that decides how much current to "pull", not the charger that "pushes" it.
So it's fine to use a higher-rated charger.

This info is correct. You have nothing to worry about.
Unless you go stupidly over. Like 13 amps will probably overload and Fry the charging circuit.
But at 2 amps you will be fine
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Current is not pushed... it is drawn. You could have 20 Amps available (like a typical 120V outlet). Whatever current the device plugged into it needs it will draw... nothing more.
With that said, Apple chargers do not short pins 2 & 3 (data pins) of the USB connector. Instead, they put a resistive load across them to communicate the charger specs to the device. Nexus (and most OEM Android) chargers short these pins. Some android devices, Nexus 7 for example, sense the load on Apple chargers' data pins and assume it is a computer and drops the load to draw only 500 MA. I have not tested the Nexus 4, but would assume it behaves the same way as a Nexus 7.
Okay thanks guys. I did notice it was a little warmer, but i think that might have been from the emulator on that i was using. Just wanted to make sure i was killing the overall possible battery life.

Can I use Nexus 5 charger with Nexus 4?

Can I use the charger of a Nexus 5 with Nexus 4? what does it matter most output or amperage?
Safety is my primary concern.
Thanks.
If the connector it's the same then yes, of course you can. The connector is a standart so they have the same on every device. If you wanna concern those stuffs then just use the original ones, not the cheapest and fake ones, use original chargers

Yea you can. The phone limits the rate to what it needs.
