Bad news for people using unlocked devices on AT&T and want to give McDonalds your money using ISIS. The ISIS (i.e. Google Wallet competitor) has launched in several major cities (Salt Lake City being one of them). I'm in SLC and have a shiny new Note 2 with NFC. I did a little research and the internet told me I needed a "secure element microSIM" for ISIS to work. Just installing the app gave me a "not compatible" message. So I went to my AT&T store and asked for help. As a crowd gathered around me because they had never seen a Note 2 yet, the tried everything. Gave me one of the new SIMs, tried to update my IMEI in the system (required to add ISIS) and surprise surprise, it didn't work. The ISIS app would load with the new SIM, but wouldn't complete the registration, kept telling me my phone was not compatible.
So if you have an unlocked device with NFC (GNEX, SGSIII, Note II, etc) you are SOL with ISIS. Funny because Google Wallet (of course) works fine with the GNEX (but not the Note II).
I'm all NFC'd up and nowhere to go. ISIS is restricted to carrier branded phones, and that's a shame. Not that I'm surprised in the least. Oh well.

I am not really surprised by this not working on an international model even though it is unlocked. The other place it has launched is Austin, Texas. I do business in Austin quite often and I was not really sure where I was at with ISIS. I was excited to use NFC but want a choice between Google Wallet and ISIS or any other system that comes up.
Now that it is here I am concerned by AT&T taking away my choice of NFC platforms. I guess the amount I pay AT&T is not enough and they want a slice of the NFC payments action? Anyways, I have decided to hold out and see where this goes.
I think the GNote 2 is not certified yet. Only a few phones are AT&T are ISIS certified with more to come soon. I'll bet it works by the holidays or at least the AT&T model will work with ISIS. Is there no way to get Google Wallet on a rooted International GNote2?
Like planoman said, ISIS has to allow the phone model on their end, so I wouldn't count your international note II out just yet. Has anybody gotten ISIS working with an international SIII?
Bump. Still not able to activate ISIS on my unlocked Note 2. Annoying.

As an update, the Galaxy Note 2 is now working on ISIS Mobile Wallet.
Just activated it on my AT&T Note II this week.
Nice as it only worked on my S3 until now. Too small of a phone for me.
Also, I unlocked the phone ans ISIS still works, but phone is not rooted.

Do you still need to install a microSIM in order to work with ISIS?
I'm thinking about giving it a try, since there is no word on when Google Wallet is going to be compatible with the Note II (unrooted)

Also, ISIS sounds like the agency that Archer works for....
(I cannot take them seriously.)
This will be my first NFC phone, and I'd really like Google Wallet to work on it.
I'm not actually on AT&T (straight talk, cheaper, works fine, unlocked sim good in any phone)
Now, I'd like to pick up an S4, SGH-I337 Unlocked.
From what I've seen Google Wallet is a no go, since AT&T favors its ISIS app, which is useless to me.
I'm willing to root it, possibly rom if need be, just want to confirm there's some way to get Google Wallet working.
There will be, as soon as the roms and the recovery start to come out. I know the s3 didnt have google support but there has a hack to enable it.

Looking at getting a mate to get me a Nexus 4 from the google play store while he's in the US. Everything should work on the phone fine in New Zealand right, no region locked type stuff?
Cheers
Yes, it will work fine, no N4s are carrier locked and they ask have the right radio bands. I bought an N4 from Google in the UK and sent it to my son in NZ.

I would like to buy a nexus 7 tablet with cellular data. I saw on google play device page there is a version for AT&T. I live in a different country. Device from at&t is compatible with my country network. I bought a Motorola Atrix 4G throught amazon.
If i buy from Google Play would the device be network locked to at&t? Should i buy from other place?
It is not a version specifically for AT&T. It is an unlocked GSM device. You can use it as long as you have a data plan for tablets or something similar.

Confirm. If you buy from Google Play it will not be locked to AT&T.
It's not sim locked, it just comes with a AT&T sim card, same goes to the T-Mobile version.

I can confirm this (least with a Nexus 4). The only difference between for example a Nexus 4 purchased from google directly and from T-Mobile is the higher price + Sim card, otherwise you can just pop in a new GSM sim card and it'll work. The same should be true of the Nexus 7, and Nexus 10 with 3G capabilities. (Google as I recall won't deal with carriers that wish to sim-lock their devices).
so basically there is no such thing as a locked nexus 7 2 gen + 4g (2013) ?
I'm looking for a nexus 7 2 gen 32gb + 4g and the seller stated that it's locked on t-mobile

I'm not sure about the nexus 7 but Google will allow simlocks what they will not allow carriers to do is lock the bootloader. The nexus range are first and foremost a developer range simlocks don't interfere with that but locked bootloader do.

I don't want to start a new thread for an old topic, so I'm recycling this one with the same basic question.
I have a chance to get a Nexus 7 2013 with LTE, but the seller claims that it is "locked to T-Mobile" and comes packaged with a T-Mo SIM.
I never thought these Nexus 7s were locked to any carrier. Has anyone here confirmed that these will work on other carriers, before I take the leap?
Have a Nexus 7 2nd gen, won't work with T-Mobile
I bought a used 2nd gen Nexus 7 which was sold as being unlocked, but it wouldn't sign in to T-Mobile's network. Their tech called support at ASUS who replied that the Nexus 7 can be locked by a particular carrier when it joins their network.
I did two full factory resets to no avail. My SIM works in my Chromebook but not in my tablet.
Hey guys, Im just wondering if LTE has been enabled on the new Android 4.4 Kitkat update. As we all know google had eliminated the LTE capacity on the N4, its only been achievable by using hybrid radios. Any news about this would be awesome. Thanks!

If you take 1.5 minutes of your time to read the LTE threads, you'd be able to find out without making a new thread...

it would be illegal for google to activate lte on the phone. the fcc never approved lte for the nexus 4, that means itll never ever get official lte.

Also, the hardware doesn't support all the LTE bands currently in use (or it's missing an amplifier for some) so it would be a half-measure anyway.
