Google Play - problems with notifications - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys. So here is the problem: when I'm downloading or updating just any app and I click on the notification which shows up on the notifications bar, I just never (almost never) am guided to Google Play's app list. I dunno why is that. I cleared data of that app and it didn't help at all. Please help as it's becoming increasingly annoying.
PS. It also adds icons of downloaded apps to my homescreen occasionally despite the box in options unchecked (not to add them).

No one seems to have replied... Bump.

[Q] New persistent notification in 4.3

Is it possibile to clear the new persistent notification of running app in the notification bar?
I mean, there are apps that are supposed to be running as a background service, can I put trusted app in a white list so I don't see them in the notification bar anymore?
I have tried to uncheck the option in the setting page (as shown in the screenshot attached), but the notification will appear again.
This is so annoying, any workaround?

I had the same problem with ADW launcher EX, I got it off by entering the settings menu of the app, not the settings of the phone. Look for it.

Have Persistent Notifications After You Upgrade To Android 4.3
Posted by Bertel King, Jr. in News
Anyone who has made the jump to Android 4.3, which admittedly isn't that many people right now, may have noticed that some applications now plant persistent notifications in the status bar. We offered this as a disclaimer in our post about manually updating a Nexus 4 to Android 4.3. Turns out, this is completely intentional. Android now forces persistent notifications on unkillable apps that run silently in the background. This is an attempt to call attention to behavior that isn't quite okay.
Notifications3
Many developers have made their applications impossible to kill and don't alert users to the fact that they're still running. They do this by creating a malformed notification object that doesn't appear in the status bar but still tricks the activity manager into allowing the service to enter the foreground. This is great for snooping, but that doesn't mean that only malicious apps adopt this behavior. As Artem's screenshots show below, the Network Monitor Mini Pro was one offender, but the developer has since updated the app to fix the problem.
Notifications1 Notifications2
While Android developers originally wanted to force quit apps that submit malformed notifications, there are simply too many out there for this to be a usable approach. Instead, Android will alert users to the offending apps, and developers will probably be inclined to change their software once users stop using their products and/or bring public shaming down on their heads. Hopefully the bulk of them will have been fixed by the time most phones make the jump to the latest version of Jelly Bean.

Weird approach from Google. So all the fuss is from forcing app devs to remove fake invisible nottifications , they can sill run in foreground or background!?!?! And all the masochists loving this. •_•
I've read about new Google policy, but what I'd like is the possibility to put some applications in a trusted-app list that gives us to choice if clear them from the notification bar.
This new feature by Google is helpful for all the malicious-purpose applications that are running in background without our assent, but once you notified me let me also choose how to manage them.
Maybe this could be an idea for a new app development by someone in this forum.

The ability to whitelist is an excellent idea, but it would require opening new security restrictions. Considering Google's new Apple like approach, it would be surprising this would be allowed.

[APP] [>=4.0] Recurrent Notifications for any App

This app allows to configure recurrent notifications for each app that is using the standard Android notifications subsystem.
For each app, you can configure the ringtone, vibration, led color, number of repeats and interval of each notification.
Notifications are automatically cancelled if the monitorized app removes the notification.
Also, for each monitorized app you can configure if you like to be notified when a ongoing or clearable notification was created or if the created notification contains a specific text.
This app requires a special permission that needs to be activated after the install (go app settings in order to activate it).
Please, contact if you have troubles or questions.
Market Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ryosoftware.notificationsmanager
Compatibility:
Android 4.3 and higher for the standard notifications controller
Android 4.0 to 4.2 for the legacy notifications controller (based on accessibility permissions)
Thank you, been looking for something like this that actually works for a long time, just downloaded it, and all is working flawlessly at the moment, using the custom notification on my Yahoo email app, I can use what sound I desire now.
Thanks very much, will be upgrading to the paid version very soon.
Just a quick question though, is there anyway to disable the app notification icon in the status bar.
Thanks

Hi,
Thanks for your comments. Appreciate it!
You can disable the statusbar icon clicking settings and checking the "Statusbar icon" preference
Thanks again
Your welcome, I have tried what you suggested to turn off the notification icon, but for some reason it is still visible, not a problem though, it soon disappears after I have read my notification.
Thanks again

Thanks, updated app about an hour ago, still works great, but having selected no icon in the settings, when i get an email, i get no notification sound now, it still works so well i have updated to the paid version of the app.
Again not to worry, it works brilliantly if i have to put up with that icon i will as the icon only pops up when i receive an email, then disappears after i have read it.
Thanks again.

App is nice. Has a lot of potential.
Before bying the pro version:
I have set GMail as the app to work with recurrent notification.
When I set the "Recurrent notification" to silent sound I still hear the sound of the "original notification" as normal. Any workaround ?
Never gave it a chance due to app permissions
I'm worried about the permissions this app wants to be allowed. All text apart from passwords? Still enables it to collect credit card details etc.
Nah ah.
Sorry but I won't be buying this until i can test with more then 1 app (2 would be enough to test good). Also would be nice to be able to change the blinking speed of the led its too fast for my taste.

Sorry, this app uses the standard led API, that refers to the standard phone led. I think standard phone led is the front led. Sorry
This app has no effects in battery life. Service is sleeping all the time except when a notification is started.

You need to set silent also for notification in gmail.
This app develops notification and recurrent notification for any app, but you need to silent the stock notification in order to don't have double notifications.

Explain for permissions
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED: In order to receive boot completed at startup and initiate the service
VIBRATE: To allow vibrate
INTERNET and ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE: Required by Google Ads
BILLING: To manage PRO version
READ_PHONE_STATE: Get events when phone call started and ended and silent notifications when in phone call
BIND_NOTIFICATION_LISTENER_SERVICE: (Jelly Bean and Kitkat) To receive notifications and interactuate
BIND_ACCESSIBILITY_SERVICE: (Ice Cream Sandwich) To receive notifications and interactuate
You refer to a standard Android message that is showed when you enable accessibility permissions to any, but this app is not collecting none, and the Inet access is only used
by the Ads library (by Google). We are not collecting or sharing with none.

Sure. We can add vibration patterns in next release.
Sorry, more than one app is a PRO feature.
I wanted to disable vibration and sound for Viber and also set the LED to purple on my Oppo Find 5, but for some reason it did not do anything.
Any ideas?

Hi,
Have you entered "Notifications Manager" app settings and activated accessibility access or notifications access?
Is needed to activate the app.
Also, you need to disable notifications in Viber and enable notifications for Viber in the Notifications Manager app.
(I assume Viber is generating a statusbar notification when a call)
Thanks

Ohh, now I feel dumb Thanks, it works like a charm!
Seems a good app I can't wait till I try it
Sent from my EMVIRUS Sensation XL ! using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Good looks! Gonna be keeping up with the progress of this app.
I've tried to use it on galaxy s4 with 4.4.2 and it does work for notification but LED does not work. I've tried with different colors but only use default one.
Any advice?
I cant seem to get this to work with a Nexus 5
It's too bad you can only test it with one app. What if multiple apps cause a conflict somewhere, how would we be able to identify that without purchasing the app? The trial version should be the full product with a time limit of like a week or something. Don't be stingy. =/

[Q] Combine notification icons

Hi,
I have noticed that for some reason my S7 edge will show multiple notification icons for the same app on the top status bar. One example of this is TV Show Favs, on my sony Z2 with lollipop there would only be 1 notification icon shown even if I had multiple notifications for upcoming shows. The S7 edge shows multiple icons for each notification on status bar which can lead to things getting very cluttered when Daredevil season 2 is listed for example.
Anyone have any ideas on how to make sure it combines icons?
Nobody got any ideas at all?
I have a Nexus 7 2013 that is on latest MM build & it doesn't show multiple notification icons & my Sony Z2 on LP doesn't either. There must be some way to make it combine notification icons from the same app.
Here is a screenshot to show what I mean. You can see there are 3 tv show favs icons in status bar.
I don't use that app, but I haven't seen this behavior with any app on my Edge.
Cheers for the reply, I noticed that the play store did the same & showed multiple notification icons when I did factory reset after getting nano sim but haven't seen it do it since. Will email the dev of tv show favs & see if he can fix it if it a app problem.

I've had this as well, noticed it mainly with Play store app updates, Galaxy app store updates, and Whatsapp. Might happen with other apps as well, those are the only ones I tend to get multiple notifications from. Think it may have happened on my HTC M8 running Marshmallow as well...

I'm pretty sure it's a "feature" to allow multiple instances of an apps notification to be separate and displayed simultaneously. But if I recall correctly it was also this way on my g4 running M as well as my s6e on L. Slightly annoying at times but nothing worth making me return the phone for.

Yeah it weird that it only seems to happen with some apps, the day daredevil season 2 was available on netflix the whole status bar was filled with icons. My lollipop sony Z2 doesn't do it & neither does my marshmallow nexus 7 2013. I did email the dev of Tv Show Favs a couple of days ago but not heard anything back as yet.

It's mostly just annoying as the status bar can be filled up with the icons. I wouldn't return the phone for that as it a damn good phone. I've not had a galaxy device since the S3 so thought it might just be the weird way that samsung likes to do things at times.

When you say "heads up notification", are you referring to peeking where there's a short pop up message over the status bar? For example, every time I get a message on Facebook Messenger, there's peeking. If so, that frustrated me as well and I loved it when I could turn if off with Nougat's Power Notifications controls.
I finally found a way to disable peeking; I had to turn off sound by going to Facebook Messenger's App Info - App Notification - disable [Allow Sound]. I already use Lightflow to customize sounds/vibrations from my Nougat days. Once I disabled [Allow Sound], peeking stopped but I could still hear sound/vibration through my customization in Lightflow.
Problem solved for me.
Feel disgusting to heads up notification too.
try "Gaming Do Not Disturb"
I open it all the time to ban heads up notification
Here is how to set notification on oreo. go to setting > app And notification > then select your app for which you want to turn off or reduce importance of notification. If you select preference urgent / high / medium and low. then low means no sound no visual notification and urgent mean sound and popup.

S10+ - Not receiving notifications

Howdy everyone!
I am having an issue with my S10 not displaying notifications. The only notifications that work is the Messages app. When the phone is on a black screen, the Message app is the only one that will display and notify.
I want my other apps... Nest, Wyze, Meross, etc to do the same as the messaging app.
I have googled for hours and tried almost everything i can think of.
Help?
Are your notification settings turned on for each app under settings then notifications?
Thanks for the reply.
Yes, I checked for each app.. I have even compared to the actual message app that came on my device.
Beginning to notice this issue also
Since the April Update this happened. Looks like its not an "issue" but a system change.
There used to be a setting where you could turn the messages on/off etc...
For instance, i like that my edge panel lights up, and i get the icon on screen that i have a message.
My wife likes that message to be displayed on the screen so she can see it without having to actually go to it.
Now there is a little messges overlay for the stock app that pops up, similar to FB messenger, I actually like this idea, but that seems to be a huge change and i cant find the setting to revert to the old way.
