common APK files for sideloading - 7" Kindle Fire HD General

I know people are always looking for apk files to sideload on their KF specially Google apps. I've started a page where I have posted those common files. I'm also willing to add more upon request. Just leave a comment on the blog post page. This is for free apps only and is not meant to get around paid apps in anyway. http://androidcowboy.com/android-apk-files-download/

Facebook app

I know they took it off the market and there are apk's on threads here. However I am unable to get anything to work. I have downloaded 4 versions of the app all from different links and got the same result from version 1.5.4 and below. When downloading through the stock browser it instantly fails to download the apk, and through Dolphin it will say the download completed but it is always a 708kb file that I show in my downloads afterward, when the apk's I was downloading were all actually 2+MB in size and of course the files could not be opened once downloaded. Am I going insane here or what the hell could possibly be wrong? Sorry the post got lengthy.
Download an app called Friend Me. Its better than the Facebook app.

I checked that out but there was no chat. That's really all I used the app for. I use the main site for most stuff but chat is a huge pain in the ass on there.

How to get my imstagram app up in the rankings

Hi everyone. I have just published an app to the playstore. What it does is that you sign In with you instagram account pick a photo then I put it on a T-shirt and deliver it to the customer.
Problem is that when you type in instagram in the search my app is quite far down the list so therefore quite hard to see.
I've tried different keywords changing the title, description and even category but none of them seem to be moving it further up.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks

Maybe try uploading to this website in the appropriate section of course. I'd put it on at least a few more websites like App brain. You could also put a video on YouTube on how to use the app even if it's very simple. Things like his could get your app to used by more people. This is just an idea as I've never developed an application but it's worth a try I guess. Good luck!

This is awesome!
THX :good:
I've downloaded and installed the Play store. When I open it, it gives me a popup informing me an account needs to be connected in order to use it. I click yes to set up my account, and the app shuts down. Any ideas?

You probably don't have Google framework installed. Use KFU (Kindle fire utility) to do that. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399889 Questions welcome.
Thanks Cowboy - useful stuff
I use Android Drawer since it has mostly All Free Apps, that are essential for Android Users. Its got over 50,000+ apps, only free though, no warez. I use it all the time for sideloading when I am at Stock, and most are update as soon as updates roll up.

Hi, great thread. My daughter is getting a Kindle Fire for Christmas and I will be setting it up before the big day (well Santa obviously does that). I specifically want to add Google Play Music as I have just signed up for All Access, what additional APKs will I need to be able to sign in?

I think you'll need Google Play Services, and Google Play Framework if you're aren't rooting. Also, I am not sure but I think All Access is for Android 4.0+, but I am not sure though.

Oh right thanks, I'll check that out first.
Edit:: a quick search seems to indicate all access will be ok on GB, I'll try it anyway.

AdAway

dont know why suddenly it just got off the playstore.
disappeared.
googled up abit and i found this
https://code.google.com/p/ad-away/
I received an email from Google Play that AdAway was removed due to "Violation of section 4.4 of the Developer Distribution Agreement." Thus, it will never be available on Google Play again. Please switch to F-Droid, the open alternative to Google Play!
Allow app installs from 'unknown sources'
Download https://f-droid.org/FDroid.apk to your device
Install this apk
Open F-Droid and search for AdAway
AdAway
AdAway is an open source ad blocker for Android using the hosts file. It needs Android >= 2.1 and ROOT access.

what's F-droid ? like playstore ? is it safe ?
Google Removes All Ad-Blocker Apps From Google Play Store
not sure.. there was a good one Adfree.. even thats gone..
something i found here
http://www.heavy.com/regions/2013/03/google-removes-ad-blocker-apps-from-google-play-store/
Google banned all apps that are blocking adverts from Play. Fck google!
Just found out the same by trying to install an ad blocker on my friend's phone.
I would say F-Droid is pretty safe, at least the AdAway author recommends it!
"Don't be evil?"
Rom Toolbox pro still does adblocking, though I'm not sure if it's as good as or better than Adaway or ABP were. Rom Toolbox Pro is absolutely worth the money for any root user anyway.
Google has also sent an email to jrummy, so even that will be taken down soon.
I got a copy a adaway, if anyone wants it lemme know.
Wtf is Google doing ?
Are they tracking users as well ?
ROM Toolbox includes an ad blocker.
Since Adaway is opensource I've compiled it and posted the latest version here.
its newer than what was in the play store.
Google!!
No one likes adverts and pop ups, Wtf!?
Please don't end up like Apple

Really? Nothing is stopping you from side loading apk's outside of the Play Store, and the adblock apps did break Google's TOS.
But you're right, no one likes ads, but how do you think devs earns money? By giving away their hard work for free? Nope.
If you don't like ads, then buy an ad-free version of the app or side load an adblocker and move on.

Of course I'm all for supporting devs, and if am app is worth paying for I will pay for it.
Most of the ads are just crap and not related to other apps, just things like "increase your penis size by 10"
But rules are rules so i have to accept your comment and agree with you. Side loading apps is okay now n then, but can attract bogus apps so users should be cautious.

If you have a rooted phone,
Search a adblock host file here on xda or in a rom you have somewhere and put it manualy with rootexplorer in
/System/etc
Replace the empty existed one
I have a lot of ad block host file on my sdcard and all my rooted phone have it and no ads come on my phone.
All apps on the store just replace/mirror your default host file with a updated one.
But I think it's better to do this manualy, because this host file is very sensistive for network and if you have a bad line in,then a virus or malware could pass.
Or
if it to strong, then you cannot surf on certain site or watch video.
To edit it,
just go on google dash and ads notifier panel,
and copy all network adress, then put them in your edited host file for block it

Think so too. Installed Fdroid.apk and AdAway, Avast said nothing after scanning the files.

How to get some free apps from GPlay without root.

Have you ever wanted to get an awesome free app from Google Play on the HDX but you just don't have root? Well that is actually easier than you might think at first. I hope this will be useful, personally I use this trick a lot.
1.) Go to the google play store on the web and choose a free app (it only works with free apps)
2.) copy the URL and paste it in the search bar of the following website:
apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/
3.) click generate download link.
4.) choose which app you want to download the apk with.
5.) then click open file, and then hit install.
6.) Play the game!
I use this trick to download stuff that isn't on the Amazon market but is free, like the Buzz launcher and other games. I hope this helped someone, and thanks.
I think most of the xda users will know how to do similar things, but maybe there is a new guy out there who doesn't. like me half a year ago!
Good to know... I've been able to use 3rd party stores for everything I've needed so far

Cool, thanks man.Never thought of that, but I never had an advanced phone- no need. For my uses a nokia brick is good enough.
Or just sideload 1mobile market. no root needed for it to work just for the apps it cna download that need root just like normal playstore it has all the free apps that google play does. I assume its similar to those apk downloaders out there but just does it on the device and in an interface that works well and even allows searching and the like.
