Can i go from atmel to synaptics digitizer? - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

Has anyone with atmel digitizer changed it with the synaptics one and if it worked? My front cover is cracked so im thinking of buying a new one digitizer with the front glass. But most of them are synaptics and i have heard synaptics respond better (my atmel lagged sometimes on lockscreen). So has anyone with atmel bought a synaptics one and if yes did it worked?

i m wondering that too

Someone told me they tried it and it worked. I think it was Blefish

im just curious if a reinstallation of the official rom is required after going from atmel to synaptics in order the right synaptics drivers to be installed as its a new hardware found

As the kernel includes both touch screen drivers, you can simply switch them out and it will work. No software modifications are needed.
I switched mine from Synaptics to Atmel and went well.

so you saw difference between Atmel and Synaptics?.I don't think there are many users who have tried both so you can share your experience..!

Well, first the Atmel driver from Huawei is horrible. Luckily that's already covered by me and included in my upcoming ROM. Secondly, Atmel supports up to 10 fingers with my driver. Atmel is highly configurable, all the thresholds are modifiable so we can improve it greatly.
In hardware side, I could say the button brightness is lower and more blueish on Atmel, but that could be just me.

so if I wanna buy a synaptics one how should I order? as far as I remember they had different cable/bus colors

I bought mine from eBay and it had a listing where they offered both golden and black cable color.
So:
* Golden cable - Atmel mXT224
* Black cable - Synaptics TM-1564
Synaptics has a note on it with TM-1564 and on the cable you can see Synaptics aswell. Atmel has a Truly sign on it.

Here's the comparison pictures, Synaptics is on the left on all the pictures. Please ignore the Atmel glue marks, that's how I glued it on my old frame.
When buying with a frame, please also note the speaker size, they are not compatible with each other, at least that's what I've heard of.

Desire HD multitouch

Did anyone here notice problems with multi-touch when pressing with 4 fingers in a square.
It fails to recognize all fingers or misplaces them or other strange behaviour.
That means the screen is not REAL multi-touch and that's kinda disappointing in my opinion.
(4 fingers work fine in most situations, only when trying to achieve a perfectly aligned square)
Can anyone else try this? (best program to use is "Multitouch visible test" free from market.)
Works for me.

Fine here too.
All good with mine also - four points in a square with no problems whatsoever.
works fine with me too
I've been testing this further today and it's slightly more complicated.
I noticed that when plugged into charger it seems to work, but as soon as I disconnect it the issue is back.
It also worked or didn't randomly through the day.
So I guess this could be a software issue, possibly to conserve battery..?

I noticed this too! At first, I was happy that it worked for me, but then I read this, and plugged it out of the charger. So then we know that when we want to impress our friends with four points multitouch, we need to have the charger plugged in

I can confirm that. Just tried it and it behaves very strange. Seems to me that it's not related to charging because both times I had my phone off the charger...
EDIT: OK I rebooted just to see if it's software related. It's not. It's purely hardware. You have to hold your phone to get proper multitouch. Simple as that.

Please remember that there are 4 different models of touch panel that HTC use in the Desire HD, 2 different screen models and 2 different camera modules. Not all DHDs are the same. If you have an ENG HBoot then you can see what hardware your DHD has by checking 'system info'.

Well I know about 2 different screens, and the Inspire 4G uses a slightly better camera, but I've never heard about 4 different touch panels being used
I also don't think it's a hardware issue, because then it wouldn't just work and then stop randomly. It really sounds like a software thing TBH

Hold the phone while testing the touchscreen. if you just leave it on the table, it behaves like you describe. If you hold it in your hand, the touches are precise.

If you get "Z-DeviceTest" app you can test almost everything... and our Display can recognize a maximum of 4 fingers, not more and not less, so its multitouch => Jazzhand XD^^
As others pointed out you need to hold the phone in your hand so your hand acts like a ground. And thats actually not really a problem since capacitive technology is supposed to be grounded if you want to make precise touch. Thats just basic electronic stuff we all should know

I have thought of that and I know how capacitive touch tech works.
That does make sense.
But then 4 touch shouldn't work at all when not plugged in or being held, instead only square position not working when not in contact, I mean 4 fingers is the same deal whatever way you position them on the screen?
Care to explain further?

Nexus 7 LCD question

This question was triggered in regard to the folks out there (myself included) who have experienced cracked SCREENS in the early models. I'm curious, what is it about the design of the n7 LCD that causes all touch functionality to stop if a crack occurs? I remember seeing touch screen devices in the past with cracked screens that still responded to touch... Just made me wonder what made the n7 different. Then again maybe it's not so different and I just haven't come across anybody who had a touch-working cracked LCD... Any insight?

according to my personal knowledge, the touch sensors are built into the display itself, or if you prefer, the glass. so if the glass does shatter, this is a fair chance that the touch sensor will be damaged.

Parts MB525 and MB526 interchangeable?

Hello,
I broke the screen of my Moto Defy+ (MB526) which I obviously want to replace.
However, here (NL) we only have parts (such as replacement screens etc) for the Moto Defy (MB525) available.
Does anybody know if hardware parts such as screens/digitizers etc. are interchangeable between the MB525 and the MB526?
Thanks in advance,
TY
Although not absolutely certain, but I think they're identical with respect to the touch screen and hence parts should be swappable between models

As far as display and digitizer goes its all the same Ive replaced mine manually with a chinese one. Works fine. Remember your speaker orientation before popping it out. Might not matter but why risk it and it looks identical rotated.

Slight bit of an OT regarding our Defy Screen.
Since you replaced yours with a Chinese replacement LCD, how's the quality of the display? Is it par with the original Defy LCD?
Though i always use the freezer trick to fix dead pixels on my Defy. I'm planning on also replacing my LCD with a Chinese one hoping that it will be more tough on dead pixels..
Thanks.
chipset used in defy+ is little different to that of the defy. Some Parts may cause problem

[Q] u8800-51 touch screen bottom not responding

u8800-51 touch screen bottom not responding
hi all
i am new and ignorant
(love the xda rules vid)
just bought second hand at&t impulse 4g (u8800-51) , with the bottom half of the screen, not responding to touch.
the top half works
i was told that it happened when the device got dropped.
the picture is good.
got stuck in at&t logo boot loop, and erased back to original on the android rescue screen. and its booting again
tried to reassemble the screen , but no change.
will replacing the glass plus digitizer solve it?
is there a difference between u8800 and u8800-51 screen parts? (or any other hardware for that matter?)
thanks alot
Switching the touch screen (glass) will fix your problem.
In which side do you have the notification led on? Right or left of speaker?
If it is on the right, you probably have the smaller speaker system (that's good to know if you are buying with the frame).
There is no difference in the sockets, however I have seen all Impulse 4G have the Synaptics version (black flex cable), so it would be better if you'd buy that. Some of the eBay sellers are offering the official AT&T touch screen, with the logo on it, so that would be a safe place to buy from.
-EDIT-
Some more things to know:
When they are selling with a frame, you can see it on the picture and they usually mention that somewhere too. If you took the phone open, it's easy to tell if it's big or small by looking whether it looks like this (big speaker).

thank u so much
after a long study of the different pics of sellers, i remain a confused, because i finally found enough pics
(attached)
to realize that my model always have the black cable u mentioned which comes with a SMALL speaker, while the big speaker always come with the yellow cable, but alas, my device comes with a black cable, but big speaker,
so should i go with cable color + name mentioned (AT&T Impulse 4G) + AT&T logo, (which all calls for a Small speaker) OR , should i go with speaker size (big) ?
regarding my indicator position, it is to thr right when i look from the inner angle (like the photo of the big speaker that u added

That's the digitizer only. I don't think it's glass really, but it's easier to say it is.
I replaced mine by taking off the old digitizer from the frame. It came off pretty easily, it just needs some patience to take it apart without breaking it.
If you don't want to mess with glue, I'd suggest this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Digitizer...356?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4abfc0011c
It's without the AT&T logo. I cannot guarantee it will fit though, there is always this chance Huawei modified something else between the U8800 and -51.

i prefer not to risk peeling, for breakage, and gluing, for moisture and mess.
i am starting to think that my digitizer was not original, and that is why it failed.
and feels like plastic. i found an original part at cellulardr.com for about 70$ vs. the 10-$15 ebay ones.
so maybe the seller put on impulse 4g, a big earpiece frame, with a yellow cable digitaizer. what a mess!
i attach a pic of big vs small earpieces. i believe the ''big'' is the one with golden terminals.
i think i will get a cheap ebay small earpiece frame with a black cable digitizer (like the original had, i believe) , with a 5$ small earpiece as extra.
god. why do i feel like Sherlock Holmes ?

yes, i am going to buy a small earpiese frame with black cable plus a small earpiece,
but seeing my old digitizer, i am starting to think (because of the price difference from the original) that all these E-bay so called "glass" , 10-15$ , advertized digitizers ,are actually made of plastic ??
but i will not "invest in an expensive glass before i am happy with the new device.
so far i have not seen used original digitizers.
if i am happy with the device, i might start looking for a"for parts" u8800-51 deal on E-bay

Touch Screen

hi,
what is the advantage of buying this screen?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Touch-S...e_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item4d16e48a92
what are the risks?
or compensates more buy:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Replacement...e_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item5d43fc8537
The first one seems to be Synaptics, without the frame. It means you have to glue it to your old frame yourself. No need to worry about speaker size here, since it won't include one.
The seconds one seems to be Atmel with frame, but notice the big speaker. It must be compatible otherwise the speaker stops working (as far as I know U8800 ships with small speaker, but I can't be sure).

It's not hard at all. You just need to be careful not to spill it on the touch screen visible part.
Getting the old touch screen off might take some time, as the cover is not that strong. I removed it slowly and it came off pretty well.

It' a little bit cheaper and looks the same as the first one, in the first post.
I'm having some problems with my touchscreen, where sometime it detects some inputs in the right area of the screen. It's truly annoying, as you my think....
I'm thinking about buying a new one.
Which one is better by the way, Synaptics or Atmel? I would like something cheap, but that don't work/feel garbage...

Synaptics is more or less ok, but Atmel is more configurable and with my ROM you get 10 point multitouch.
The video is nice, but it seems to describe the method where you have touch screen with the FRAME, so it does not involve replacing the actual digitizer. The eBay link offers just the digitizer, so an extra step is needed to replace the digitizer in the frame with the new one.

I thought that the multitouch limit of 2 was an hardware thing! That is very good! I'm using your CM11, and I can only make 2 multitouch at a time. So, it's a Synaptics touch, right?
Aren't you going to change the driver in the next ROM, because of the problems turning the screen off/on?
Keep the good work on that.
So, the initial problems (2012) that the Atmel touch had, are gone?
About the video, there is really one steep missing. I'm a little worried about damaging the metalic frame arround the phone, to separate the "glass" from the frame. Maybe from the inside it's easier, i hope.
Thanks!
