I have a G-Tab running TnT lite 4.4 and a ASUS TF running 3.1.
I have to say that my G-Tab OS is smoother, faster, and more responsive...
WT? Should this be???
I purchased my TF with 8.2.3.9, manually upgraded to 8.2.3.13 then 8.4.4.5-20110527
Can anyone guid me on this should my G-tab perform better or have I missed something?
Thanks.

Your TF stock and your G-Tab is running custom ROM?
Try Prime v1.4 and an OC kernel.
This is the only answer that this post needs: YMMV
What is an OC Kernel?
I guess easiest way would be to compare putting XP vs windows 7 on a computer. Same hardware, XP is going to fly circles around 7 on speed because the OS is needing less resources. Downside is you don't have the fancy interface.
Most the problems with the 3.x performance is more then likely due to honeycomb.

OverClock kernel
I was just researching the prime 1.4 and it seems that theres a bug which causes the reboot when accessing the rear camera. Is there an update to this?

Been on Prime 1.4 since the day out came out. No such problems for me with camera
how can you even compare the GTab with the transformer?...
Not comparing capabilities, simply OS responsiveness, smoothness of movements through screens/scrolling, application launch speed... The G-Tab lacks the quality and screen of the TF (to name just a few factors) but with a good custom ROM it can get it done very nicely.
All I use my Acer A500 for is Web Browsing, watching video, and reading comics and was wondering which ROM would be the fastest one for me. I have Rooted it and am currently using Acer_A500_7.014.02_COM_GEN2 on Android Version 3.2.1 with Kernel Version 2.6.36.3+.
Thanks
I'm more of an enthusiast when it comes to Android - so don't take my advice with any "pro" weight behind it- and I've also rooted my a501 and played with roms. Basically, I haven't found major or noticeable differences between the custom jobs (there are noticeable differences b/w the custom jobs and the stock ones, though). Most of the custom jobs have tweaks that increase free space or battery life or add a few eye candy things to the tablet. This thread is very up to date about it.
Personally, I've tried Lightspeed, Honeylicious and even Taboonay at one point. They're all good. I personally want zero clutter (so none of the stock Acer apps or games) and a bit more battery life, since my model also has 3G. I was going to try Epiphany also, but I've "updated" to stock and am waiting for ICS, since none of the devs are likely to finish up with reverse-engineering it before Acer comes out with the official update. So that's about that..
Never really understood the kernel bit, at least never really noticed major differences between them, but again, I'm just a guy with a tablet, not a pro.

All the custom ROMs are just whipups of the stock ROM or some other device's ROM, so there are not really all that much differences in e.g. browsing performance. The only thing that really speeds you up there is going for another browser or overclocking and as such if the small speed-up is really that important then you should look for a ROM with a custom kernel that allows for overclocking.
If I had to choose one ROM I'd probably suggest Honeylicious, but then again, I am still running stock ROM myself as it's the least buggy.
According to my own personal experience, there are three custom ROMs with superior video performance, which are available only at tegraowners.com as they are using a GPL non-compliant kernel. The fastest ROM is the A500 ICS, which is, however, still under development (e.g., no camera, no HDMI audio). The two other ROMs are HC 3.2.1 based, Civato Flexstriker and Thor A500 14.2, and both also very fast. Both have as additional advantage over stock ROM, for instance, drivers for using 3G thumb drives. There are many further tweaks. For instance, Civato's Flexstriker shows a better Wifi stability compared to stock, while Thor's A500 14.2 shows the best GPS connectivity.
With best regards, maris

How does any of those have anything to do with video?
What do you mean? I wrote these are additional advantages over stock ROM, besides better video performance.
Best regards, maris
I used kjy2010's honeylicious faux rom on my a500 and it works great! Just as he and others described, it is stable, fast, free from clutter.
I'd have to vote for the Honeylicious ROMs as well. They're basically tweaked stock ROMs with a lot of clutter deleted, so they're highly reliable. Your requirements are rather basic (same as mine, so there's nothing wrong with that), so there's no real point in going to a bleeding edge ROM.
You could also just get EZTerry's stock rooted ROM and delete the clutter yourself via Titantium Backup, but that's pretty much what KJY2010 has already done in the Honeylicious ROMs.
I would not recommend going with any ROM not using the stock kernel because that usually has compromises on reliability. I also wouldn't use a ROM that isn't based on the stock Acer ROM for the same reason (if not more so since it wasn't didn't come from Acer).
All just my opinion -- I realize that other's may vary.

Hate to break it to you buddy but honeylicious is based on the Packard Bell ROM, not the stock Acer one.

You mean the Liberty tab from Acer subsidiary, Packard Bell, that's almost an identical clone of the A500?
I was referring to ROMs based on completely different tablets, like Asus, Motorola, etc.
Bought the tf300 for my sister and made dam sure it was ICS, so i can run some test and compare to my JB tablet. Now i debating if i should upgrade her to Stock JB or unlock the bootloader and try out CM9/10f.
For her i would rather leave the bootloader locked for warranty purposes but the geek in me tells me to unlock and try CM9/10. She is using CM9 on her i9000 and has no issues with it so it won't be an issue and now since CM Team have OTA updates it will make things very easy when updates arrive.
But for her i don't see the benefits installing CM, the main reason I wanted to go to CM was because of I/O issue (laggy system is bad for all), running CleanRom on my tablet and have no issues and it very snappy unless i start running a torrent using utorrent or start installing map apps at the same time.
So people that have CM on there TF300 do you guys have any noticeable lag with CM and when torrenting or installing lots of apps?
If you can please post androbench/antutu scores all on performance that would be great-full.
I'd say update to stock, then try the a ROM like hydro or cleanrom. These keep the Asus functionality while providing an insane performance increase.

Before you upgrade to jb consider NVFlash - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1894867.
If you have interest in CM10 on jb bootloader check this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1942369 - help is on the way.
Well my TF300 already has CleanROM installed and it has major speed boost I still find it slow and laggy compared to my S3. When transferring a file from the network or downloading, everything starts to slow down or has a bit of delay which is why i created this thread. CleanROM is far better then stock (but not that much since its based on stock) but just not what i expect for $500 tablet.
I would have just tested on my tab but since mine came with JB i'm SOL, just don't want to void her warranty if CM does not have any benefits.
I tested all ICS Bootloader Roms before updating to JB.
For me now the perfect combination is The JB OC edition Rom from surdu with the newest Kernel from Untermensch. Running on 1600MHz with ondemand governor and sio.
You didn't test the CM10 Builds?
I put CM10 on mine, and even though some of the Asus controls are missing the physical keyboard still works almost perfectly (lock key doesn't turn on screen). Experiencing significantly less lag than on stock Asus.
I think so. Happy with CM10 and the untermensch kernel clocked at 1700. Using the pegasusq governor, as that gave the smoothest experience. Huge improvement over stock. The only feature I miss is the onscreen notification when pressing the keyboard dock key to turn off the touchpad, the key still works though.

Howdy,
Question in short: As the Topic says. I read a lot of threads in the forum about the a501 but they were all like yes and no and yes and no... So I wasn't able to figure, what's true or not. Even the post concerning my question were quiet old or just unclear about performance etc.
I'm using a TF101 with Timdurus KatKiss ROM. It's amazing stable, ultra responsive and makes a lot much faster pads look like oldtimers.
Anyway. I decided to root, Rom and mod a befriended Acer Iconic A501 Tab as a Christmas present since it was quiet lame and slow on the Stock 4.0.3. After an approx 30 hours marathon I was finally able to get the bootloader working, a recovery installed, the partition repaired (I kinda messed it up due to a lack of knowledge and reading... Thought flashing would be as easy as it was on the Transformer pad... I was wrong), a ROM installed and made the unique bootanimation I made for her working.
The problem: The Tablet still is horrible unresponsive and slow (compared to my Asus Tf1010). As far as I know, the hardware should be quiet similar. So I'm wondering why.
I used Thors 4.3.1 ROM. I saw there are more ROMs like Lightspeed, evil Alex or flex but these are mostly HC or ICS. Unfortunately I'm horribly short on spare time. Also she needs her Tab so I can't test the ROMs myself. So I was wondering, if someone could tell me a solid, up to date, stable and responsive ROM For the A501. 3G-support would be awesome, but is not a must have.
Appreciate your help / advices.
Merry Xmas / Happy new year

Using Thor 4.3.1 with the new t50 Kernel for now until 4.4 is all good.
3G works (even if a bit sloppy - felt) with the native pre-release driver.
Warning: Just stay away from several launchers for now (Next, NOVA,...) they are for some reason horrible slow. Untakable slow! Also makes the system instable. Seems to have to do with the system wallpaper rendering. Lots of ROMs seem to suffer from this for some reasons right now.
Cheers
Hi all
So not too sure if many people are still using this Tablet as it's hitting a milestone now.
But I was just wondering what you people are using on this table, and how the performance on it is doing.
Figured this could help some people around that are still using this tablet for comparatives, or some guidance for new users to Custom Roms.

I'm enjoying the tablet, but I still find it sluggish at times, but overall it's pretty good once it's running. Startup is a little slow but I can get by/
Sharing is caring everyone!!
Be happy to see how everyone elses TF300T is preforming and with which Roms!
Hi. Just started playing with the TF300T after having the TF101 for over two years.
I am running KattKiss KitKat 4.4.4
Over clocked to 1.7Ghz. Also formatted to F2FS
Quadrant standard 6,327
Antutu 18,519

KatKiss is one of the fastest rom's i've seen espcially when it's oc'd to 1.7ghz! i'm still running cromi-x but i tried it. I'm having not too many software lag but the hardware and build quality of the tablet is really depressing. the screen creaking is really annoying and light comes through the small gaps between the bezel and screen causing screen bleed (i'm also not that satisfied with asus support, they fixed my tablet cause the touch screen was broken but after i got it back about a year later i tried removing the back with success and saw that the copper heat sink was just floating on top and not even glued to the motherboard and the warranty void if broken seal on the heat sink was broken too) i'm thinking about buying an nexus 7 sooner or later
hey guys i am trying to install a custom rom i have the tf300 tablet and bootloader is unlocked I have been trying to install TWRP to install the custom rom but it wont work.
When I enter the bootloader pressing power button + vol down i only get 3 options but none is USB.
All i want is install customer rom, can ye point out the right direction?
Thank you
Noahvt, If you don't mind me asking, what about KatKiss made you go back to the Cromi ROM? I tried several ROMs on my old TF101 before settling with KatKiss. Once I picked up the TF300T, KatKiss has been the only one I have tried since it worked so very well on the TF101.
LucaLuca, Good morning. The way that I installed the TWRP to my TF300T was by booting into recovery (like you did with the three options), and then pushing the .blob file to the device via the ADB commands. I'm assuming you are on the most updated bootloader when you unlocked (4.2 I believe). A good set of directions and the TWRP blob file is at TransformerForums.com Just look under the TF300T Development tab. Once I pushed the blob file and rebooted, I downloaded the F2FS version from here on XDA, updated to that version of TWRP, wiped everything and installed the KatKiss. I hope that helps some. If you are not on the most current bootloader, you do run a risk of bricking your device.
@ USCJustice thank you so much after checking the website you said only took a few minutes to root and install Katkiss with no issues at all.
I went with KatKiss has you seem to be happy with it. I was thinking CM because of ART but not sure. I dont want to be flashing roms often want one and keep it.
Thank you very much for the help
Luca Luca,
Glad that worked out well for you. I cannot speak to the ART situation. I know that will be the standard on the L release later in the year. I have b faith that the Meerkat will come through for us all.
I'm just happy with what we have. I will stock with this ROM till Timduru has an L version out.

I just went back to cromi because i knew it had a good and reliable performance and since katkiss required me to overclock the device to get ultra fast performance it required a nasty battery drain too

Like you, I ran KatKiss on my TF101 for ages. It saved a lot of Transformers from ending up in the scrap heap. As for KatKiss on the TF300T, my experience with it on the TF300T is similar to Noahvt's when I updated to 033. My battery life was dismal, and the performance was poorer than v032b despite the big jump in 033's default GPU overclock. I lost 3K in Antutu, and my tablet was intermittently pausing/lagging for a few seconds. I also had several random reboots. I went back to 032b, and it runs perfect again. No more lagging, 18K in Antutu, and I can get almost 6 hours of screen time usage. On 033, I was getting under 4 hours.
Noahvt, Thanks for your thoughts. I didn't run stock rom on the TF300T, so I don't have any sort of benchmark as to what is good battery life out of the tablet. I never seem to have more than an hour here or there to play on it with work and family obligations. That being said, I seem to run about 6 days of that sort of use before I need to charge the dock back up. Tablet stays pretty well topped off. That's actually a huge improvement over how the TF101 dock handles charging.
Just Lou, It does seem somewhat sad to leave the TF101 behind. I do however greatly appreciate the faster Tegra 3. I haven't tried the KatKiss 33 because 32b is working so well, and I have been on the go a great bit of late. As of this morning I'm sitting at a little over 400 hours without a random reboot.

I still have my TF101 and use it once in awhile. As of now timduru is still supporting it. I also put Omnirom on it to change things up. It works well too.
Since 32b works well for you too, I wouldn't update to 33. I think most of the issues are due to the very high GPU and CPU overclocks. I tried downclocking the GPU back to 32b's default 520MHz, and it seemed to be more stable. The performance still wasn't there though, and my battery life still wasn't close to 32b.
I've just moved from Cyanogenmod to CROMBI-KK and the difference between the two is amazing. Crombi to my eyes is so much faster, the installer is also very nice.
