[MOD] Gyroscope Patch - TouchPad Development

I have released the flashable update zip providing gyroscope, temperature and compass changes for CM9 (latest nightly) and CM10 (jcsullins 20130304 build)

The work is not finished yet - still need some tuning so every feedback is welcome, especially about gyro controlling in games and compass.

I'm not a developer and so think this should be ported and tested in the current batch of ROMs, but Dorregaray, I think what you do for XDA, TouchPad users and the Android Community in general is exemplary and I for one am really grateful you are here to help keep our incredible TouchPad devices alive! All the best mate!

Google space went hay-wire before the patch. Now after it works fine.

Compass mode on maps now seems to work well however compass/gyro mode in street view is a total mess still. Its like the axes are wrong so turning left to right moves the view onscreen vertically up or down.

Just an fyi,
I noticed that the Kernel Tuner app I use can read out the "sensor" data ( "system info" menu) including gyro (previously "not present“) info so I thought I'd give v11 a quick try on CM9 2013-02-03. Unfortunately, the app appears to lockup while trying to read the info "please wait", which didn't occur before the patch.
The app generates & sends logs to the dev, so I did that. Will see what else I can find to test with when I get the chance.
Sent from my "Up all night, sleep all day" HP CM9 Touchpad

The patch appears to have made NFS:MW very controllable. You do have to bring the sensitivity down a level or two but it is fully functional after. Asphalt 7 is unplayable for me but it's been unplayable in general since moving to Jellybean. Asphalt seems to rotate the screen way too much to make the game playable. Will test out a few other things to see how Gyro behaves but so far so good...

patch v12 released

This seems to have improved my touch pad.. I'm using cm9 "Fat n' creamy" ROM and NFS most wanted is much smoother with this patch.
Thanks

The gyro patch v12 is included in latest jcsullins cm10 preview:
http://goo.im/devs/jcsullins/cmtouc...L-tenderloin-FOR_LIMITED_TESTING_ONLY_CAM.zip
It is strongly recommended to use jcsullins 20130304 preview instead of flasing gyro patch on cm10

Unlocking, custom Roms and the fingerprint reader..

I have been using CM9 on another phone (LG optimus 2x) its very cool, i like it and would like to flash something like this onto my atrix as i like the print reader and size/form of the atrix compared to the 2x.
But my question is.. I have noticed that CM7 from atrix.dev list the fingerprint reader as "not working", now this is onwe of the main points of the atrix?? why own an atrix if you dont use the fingerprint reader???
So which ROMS have the reader working? Is there a CM9 for atrix?
Thanks.
As far as I know you need the motoBLUR aspects of the rom to work. So if that's true you wont find any cm7 or cm9 based rom with a working fingerprint scanner... the most you'll find in cm7 or 9 is the ability to use the fingerprint scanner as a trackpad...
Edit: there are a few pretty functional although still beta cm9 's out there. So far I have used jokersax and turls cm9 both work decent as a daily driver for me.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA
There is CM9 alpha on the Atrix. It is lacking hardware acceleration, so it has some graphical issues as well as some camera issues, but can be used as a daily driver. I was running Turls build, and have run Jokers. I switched back to Cm7 only because I have a daughter that will be walking any day and needed the video camera function.
As far, as the Cm7 weeklies or Nightlies, the are both stable and fully functional for the most part. The only thing not working is, webtop. Fingerprint DOES work on Cm7, for navigation and unlocking. Hope this helps. I am currently running the latest nightly with no issues.

CM7 Weekly Fingerprint Scanner
If I remember correctly, the fingerprint scanner to unlock the phone is working on the Weekly versions of CM7, you should check those out.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1337193
If you're looking for something similar to CM7, you could also check out Neutrino Rom, it uses the weekly's as a base, and should also have the fingerprint unlock working. It was pretty smooth, it was my daily driver until i switched over to CM9.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1398819
The only rom that I have found that is de blurrified is neturino
Does anyone know 100%, if this is a feature (fingerlock) only applicable in/on this device?
I've added the cyanogen frameworks and settings gerrit commits, (including the blur commit) but an option just doesn't show up to turn it on or use it.
Maybe a third commit in say, cmparts, is needed (but I just can't seem to find) or it is device specific feature only.
Ideas?
Thanks.
(If this is the wrong place to ask this, or I have the wrong idea, kindly let me know, and ill correct it)

This function worked for me on this build as well
---------- Post added at 11:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:05 PM ----------
There was an earlier alpha build of CM9 (either turn or joker, i forget)
but it had a working fp sensor. Since then later builds only have the capability to flash a fpscanner.zip for navigation purposes, but its something Ive yet to be able to get working.

In the earlier builds the fp sensor was used for navigation but now on latest builds if you flash the zip it won't work.

Fingerprint reader in CM9
Let me clarify on fingerprint reading in CM9. Jokersaxs builds (which are updated more often) don't have any support for the fingerprint reader (which annoys me too, but I use it because it's worth it for CM9 IMHO). The .zip on jokers site doesn't do anything as far I can tell. turl's builds have the fingerprint reader working for navigation but not unlock.
Almost all non-blur builds don't have fingerprint reader support, the only one I have found, is Neutrino rom which apparently works and is a CM7 based rom.
Gd luck.

the fingerprint has worked perfectly in the ROMs Neutrino 2.6 and ICS (AOKP and CNA).
the CM9 Joker (0.4.5.1), the fingerprint is not working and when I try to enter advanced / fingerprint navigation, I get FC.
Guys what do you mean the fingerprint reader works perfectly? Does it unlock the phone only with the owners fingerprint?

reason for black camera is app was build for Android 2.3.3 and cam lib seems to need this Android version. So Androids later then 2.3.3 can not start cam in this app so far.
I am porting this to latest Andriod Version but this means also porting from Processing to Eclipse and could take some time.

sbrissen vs notta vs jt1134 jellybean

which one works best for you?
Personally have only tried JT's and have got to say this is the best my phone has run in a while. Just got off a day and a half of battery, everything works that I need to work, GPS insta-locks, MMS send and receive works. On build 2 with stock everything.

now im using sbrissen's aosp jb with the newest devil kernel and ive removed a few system apps that i dont use, i personally like the look & feel of aosp jb. its simple yet, fun & it fits me
now dont get me wrong, i do like the customization of aokp and somewhat of cm10, but i can bybass that with aosp and im loving it all together. ive been using the rom since early afternoon yesterday
Add in Steve Spears AOKP JB and we have some incredible choices. I like AOKP over AOSP over CM10.
Compass is off by 180° on AOKP JB

I've only tried sbrissen's and I'm pretty happy with it.
CM10 has custom lockscreen shortcuts where AOKP has customizable battery bar. AOSP is plain but good (just like teh Nexus 7). Devil kernels make em more faster and buttery but no GPS.

JT posted the following over in rootzwiki. TEST Kernel Compass_OldGCC.zip
" It was compiled using the older gcc 4.4.3 toolchain rather than the default gcc 4.6 compiler that jellybean uses. Please let me know if you try it and still experience any radio crashes. "
along with a kernel compass_oldgcc.zip
I also have problems with aokp and helly bean in regards to compass being off and GPS being off.
The above kernel fixed the compass and GPS problems on JT's cm_10_unofficial_fasicnate JB ROM.
I've tried 4 or 5 JB ROMS based off of CM10. all have the compass and GPS problems.
JTs cm_10_unofficial with his compass_oldgcc.zip kernel is the first I've found with working compass and GPS.
thanks.

Good info, thanks. I've been bouncing between Helly bean and jt's cm10, tried sbrissen´s aosp but realized I was missing some cm10 mods.
I just noticed the GPS/compass oddness you mention today, so I'll check out this fix too.
Fyi, a performance test for me is to see if the npr app can progress through items in a play list while I'm out for a run... after I start it playing and press the power button to turn the screen off, play usually stops at the end of a segment. I "wake" the phone by pressing the power button again, and play often resumes. Better ROM / kernel combos will play through a full play list...
I'm pretty sure that the NPR app isn't particularly well-behaved in this respect, but it works ok on stock gb and on ics ms6 with glitch default settings.
While walking today, Helly bean was getting hung up on play list transitions, so I switched to jt's cm10 - I forgot to wipe after making a nandroid of the Helly bean image, but the dirty flash to cm10 seems to be working fine!
Surprised at this because of the /datadata difference, but there you go...

OK. DerTeufels Helly Bean 'allinone' dated 081312 now seems to have working compass and GPS.
Was running HELLYBEAN, latest test update gave me terrible fc problems. Browsers constantly fc. Became too unstable for my everyday use. AOKP , although I had great success on ICS M6, also had too many issues . On jt's CM10 UNOFFICIAL now and must say my device runs very fast and smooth with no FC's or problems at all.

Opensource HWC vs Blob vs no HWC Test Thread

It's a bit hard to keep an overview of submitted user tests for the new opensource hardware composer entropy posted.
So I thought it would be nice to have a thread for it so that the devs don't have to search for test results and for posting new opensource hwc zips.
My testing so far:
Blobs:
fast
transition animations laggy
homescreen swiping stuttery
opening closing app drawer smooth
Opensource Hwc1:
app drawer opening/closing stuttery
Swiping in app drawer laggier than blobs.
Opensourc Hwc2:
opening/closing app drawer smooth but not as smooth as blob
Transition animations smoother than hwc1 and blob
Swiping through homescreens/app drawer as smooth as blobs.

Which one uses changmin in his OpenSource HWComposer builds from S3?
I like this idea....maybe inform entropy about this thread
So with open source HW composer 1 games lag(check out the videos) but with blobs HW composer they don't lag.
(There is image tearing in these screen cast videos where I actually had lags)
Edit : after testing opensource HW composer v2 the gaming results are more or less the same but I find the transtion animations smoother

Open Source HWC 2 unfortunately breaks video playback at some resolutions. Netflix is broken trying to play back a hd stream (it works for a 1 min until it switches to a higher resolution, then the screen looks like it has a sync issue) ..
It looks like there is no great advantage to running the Open Source HWC in the latest builds.. but unfortunately it looks like the Mali builds are being built with the open source already added. I would wish that it could be left out so it does not affect video playback.
I woudl make this suggestion in the proper thread.. unfortuately I am still under the required post count to post in that section of the forum.. so perhaps someone could relay this request for me in that thread?

No worries, I would not clutter up the official CM10 dev thread with this type of information. I was reffering to the UNOFFICIAL thread by mcm811 [ROM][JB][CM10][4.1.1] CM10 vsync patched experimetnal build .. He has been building unofficial builds and taking suggestions from people in that thread as to what items to include and remove. I felt it would be benificial to inform people in that thread as to one of the side effects of adding the open source HWC into his builds .

This is exactly what I was hoping for. We don't have the resources to keep churning out numerous polished ROMs for TB anymore. At the same time, some things are better on AOKP, and some are better on liquid. Just taking the path of least resistance and combining the best parts of both a ROMs would be very helpful to users here. Twisted, thank you!
