[Q] Any help for my Nexus - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Don't know what was going on in my head but here goes:
Was in the middle of formatting my data so I could install a new rom. Accidently deleted EVERYTHING including the System.
I was able to get into recovery mode before but now I can't. Another problem I ran into was being unable to mount while in recovery.
Any help?

Use adb to push a ROM to your SD and then flash it.

You can't mount from recovery with this phone. It doesn't support ums.
You'll have to push a ROM to your phone while booted in recovery.
The command is:
adb push nameofzip.zip /sdcard/
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD

Managed to get back into TWRP.
I'm trying to push a rom but I'm getting a "Device not found" in the cmd prompt.

Can anyone please help?
I'm trying to push a rom but it's failing with a "Read-Only File system" error.

Mount the file system as R/W. Seriously dude, Google is your friend. Stop panicking and use you brain to work through this.
Edit: If you still can't get it, just use fastboot to flash the stock images. Follow efrant's guide stickied in general.

I've already remounted using "adb remount".
Same error. Thanks anyway.

Adb remount is not mounting your filesystem as R/W.
Edit: Your SD card should already be R/W. It sounds like you're trying to push the file to system.

There are plenty of mirrors to the factory images on XDA you just have to search for them.
After you find factory images if you can't figure out how to ADB Push, try reading how to fastboot flash.

Changing Bootmode Via Terminal?

My computer is down and TWRP seems stuck in recovery mode? possibly. Every time I try to flash a ROM TWRP just reboots itself. I'm able to backup and restore fine but cannot flash. I'm running dualboot bootloader if that matters.
Is there a way to check what mode it is in via terminal and also change it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I know how to flash via terminal. I need to know of you can change boot mode via terminal. I already tried flashing the recovery over top of it but I still cannot flash a new ROM. (The tablet boots up fine, fyi)

If you can flash twrp 2.1.1, then you can boot into your rom from twrp. It used to have a bug where it would not change bootmode. I believe it is now fixed with v2.1.1.
Hope it helps.

I flashed 2.1.1 with success but still was unable to flash a ROM. To top it off, I clicked the "reset boot loader" option and now my Kindle is stuck on the dual-boot boot loader screen and will not respond or go further....

Type this in terminal emulator:
Su
Oem idme bootmode 4000
FINALLY! Damn, his laptop was being defiant and didn't want to install the fastboot drivers. Was starting to piss me off, but an hour later and I got it going!
I had to run
fastboot -i 0x1949 oem idme bootmode 4000
fastboot -i 0x1949 reboot
I haven't tried to flash a new ROM yet, I don't even care at this point, happy the Kindle is back up. Now time to try and get ROMs to flash...
OK so I reset my partition to stock, flashed the latest FFF (replacing the dual-boot bootloader) and flashed the latest TWRP 2.1.1 and it still failed to flash ANY ROM. I reverted to TWRP 2.0 again and tried and it didn't fail...yet. It started the flashing process but I'm not sure it'll complete (been flashing for about 5 minutes now and has not completed). Really not sure what the deal is with flash failing. This never happened before.
EDIT-
Nope, goes...

[Q] How do I send files to my phone while in recovery mode?

Hey guys, I'm new to XDA and have been struggling to fix this problem of mine. I was recently flashing a custom rom and my phone entered a boot loop. I went to the recovery mode and tried installing it again, rebooting, and factory reset, all of which did not work. Also I do not have a nandroid on the phone. I'm hoping to put a different rom onto the sd and installing it in an attempt to get out of this boot loop. Any help would be much appreciated.
Use adb or fastboot to flash the rom directly of your PC.

Just use ADB if you're in the recovery.
Put the ROM.zip in the same folder as your cmd window is in and type
adb push ROM.zip /storage/emulated/0/
does mount usb storage in clockworkmod still work ?
just checked... no there is no option for that, too bad it was useful

So I've gotten to this part and I'm not seeing "Mount USB Storage". The options it gives me are "mount system, mount data, mount cache, and mount sd card". I tried selecting mount sd card and it will not select. Maybe my phone is acting up??
You cant mount the phone as storage while in recovery, what you have to do is use adb sideload in the advance menu. more info here: http://teamw.in/ADBSideload what it does is move the zip to the phone and install, because of the way our phone works its easier to just have your rom and gapps already on the phone before you enter the recovery.
I just fixed it. Turns out the root toolkit I had was able to push the files onto my phone. I feel like a retard but I really do appreciate the help from everyone. Thanks. :good:

[Q] Nexus 4 wont work after new cyanogenmod update

Hi guys im sort of new to the android scene and im having problems with my nexus 4, i downloaded the newest cyanogenmod nightly and flashed it, it messed up part way through. i rebooted the phone and now its just stuck at boot animation. i have wiped the cache the dalvik cache and done a factory restore.
i have tried reflashing the nightly but it stick stops part way through, i want to add the new rom to the /sdcard but i dont know how, its not showing in android file manager and i have tried using adb push command.
im sure its a noob question but any ideas?
P.s sorry i know there are posts similar to mine but tried them and wont work
If adb push won't work in recovery you might try flashing the factory images with fastboot. System.img is really all you'd need.

You can try to sideload a new ROM via 'adb sideload' in the recovery.

Follow the steps, but only flash the system.img. Once it boots, move your ROM over. Reboot into recovery. Flash.

[Q] Need some help please

I have a Nexus 7 wifi, It is stuck at the Google screen boot looping. It is unlocked and has TWRP 2.5 which I can access. I have tried every tool kit to no avail. Need some help please!
dont use a toolkit
get to a command line and figure out whats wrong by trying to flash a factory image, or run factory reset in recovery and see if it fixes it.

I tried factory reset but it fails. I tried to flash a factory image through side load but it fails.
If I go to advanced wipe and do them one at a time they all work except data.
It appears to have nothing on intrenal or external storage.
One other thing is when I try to mount the system in twrp it asks for a password?
I have never setup a password so I don't understand this.
Thanks
Did you encrypt your device?

No, not at all that's what's so strange.
I purchased it new and it started locking up and after an attempted factory reset here we are.

Factory reset would wipe data partition leaving nothing in data. Makes sense that it wouldnt let you wipe that when there is nothing there.
Try flashing a factory image from fast boot. Not from recovery.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
Would it not have to be loaded on the device? I tried it with a tool kit and it gets to the end and fails on verification.
I don't remember what version it was so that doesn't help. I think it was 4.1.2
But not positive.

Okay seems to be a problem with twrp 2.5 as far as the password I'm downloading 2.6 now.
Use fastboot to flash new recovery and system partition. You run fastboot commands from your computer not from recovery and your device needs to be in bootloader not recovery. It does not require you to load it onto the device prior

[Q] after "Format data" with twrp i lost my /data/media/ mount

Hi folks,
Yesterday i did some real crap... I switched from cwm to twrp, all fine. Then i wanted to flash cm 10.2 and i choose "Format data" in twrp. After typing "yes" i realizied i wiped EVERYTHING... I lost my cm 10.2 ZIP i just wanted to flash, my nandroids etc... Ok **** happens.
I sideloaded the cm 10.2 ZIP to get a working Android OS again. All seemed fine, except i lost all my data...
But last night i wanted to flash a New kernel and i tried to do a backup first. But now i can only choose "internal storage" With about 1,2 gig free space.
Did i lost my mounting point or something? I can access /sdcard with twrp file manager and i can flash zips from sdcard but i cannot choose sdcard as backup location. Also i cannot choose format sdcard (obviously )
What can i do to fix that? Do i have to flash stock userdata.IMG?
Btw here is my recovery log: recovery.log
Choosing "copy recovery log to SD card" works fine...
Thanks!

Thank you! Can i skip recovery.IMG to avoid loosing twrp?
Is there no other way to recover my sdcard "mount"? From what i unterstand is that i deleted my symlink or something like that. I tried fdisk -l in console but i get nothing. I took a look at recovery. / storage.fstab and it seems OK. Maybe there is a wrong / missing Entry?

You can remove the recovery from the zip file from where the flash all script is and also remove the name of the recovery in that text file.
Don't worry about that, the flash will fix it anyway.
