If the person is that much of an idiot maybe he/she should refrain from flashing his/her phone
I do believe the current guides are as foolproof as possible. Feel free to PM the guide creators for help on any type of moding

Desire HD and ARHD
Hello!
Love the desire HD and loving mike1986s' ROMs.
Anyone else find it ridiculous about the 10 posts thing.....having to do 10 posts before being able to post on certain threads?
I totally understand why and the reasoning behind it. But telling me to "get your posts up by engaging with the forum" is counter-productive, as all the threads i wish to engage in require I have 10 posts!!!
But anyway..

Sure thing, I followed this one to the letter and have had no problems http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11557769
Just take your time, read it through carefully and download everything first so you're all set up and ready to go.
Good idea is to print it out and tick off things as you go.
As I mentioned, I am really new to this and followed the guide to the letter and had no problems. It was the first time I've ever rooted an Android device and it was a breeze (well, it took a few hours....).
Hi, I'm trying something done for the topicstarters in a dev tread. Please read and tell me your thought.

Question,
Is it possible for a topic starter in a dev tread to clean his own tread in the futere?
Mayby it's a idea to ad that option if a topic starter asked that.
And that they can only clean his/her tread?
I think it make yours and theirs live a lot relaxer.
You don't need to watch every tread. And the dev can keep his tread cleen without spamming and the same question over en over again.
Sorry for my typo.....

Yes, I really think this is a good idea.
You can make rules before you ad the option. Like new members.
The dev need (for example) a least 100 post* before they can ask you for the option. Then you can screen the past of that person . And if they misbehaving. Then we (the not dev people) have many options to contact you. And after you warning a dev. The next time he goose across the line, he lost that option for good ...
But this is just my opinion. And again, I thinks this good really worked.
Thanks for answer me.

No, rules are fine as is. And this is in the wrong section
Yeah I think this is a good idea
I think the idea is good in theory, however I don't see it being as good in practice. First, the devs rarely post anyway. I don't think they also want the responsibility of cleaning their own threads. To be honest, it is usually not the devs complaining about off topic. It's the senior members who have self assigned themselves forum police. I can definitely see something like this getting out of hand or misused.
I think the 10 posts minimum to post in the dev threads is both part of the problem and solution. Now we have noobs posting new threads wherever they can just so they can get a question answered or get their post count up. The problem is that they didn't LEARN anything by that rule. At the end of 10 forced posts they are still wanting an answer to their dev questions, so they post it in a dev thread anyway.
With xRecovery and the increasing ease of modifying your phone, more and more less experienced people are hacking their phones. Those people are inevitably going to have more questions, and the current "devs only" approach leaves them no option but to post in the devs thread.
I think the recent trend of linking a discussion thread to the dev thread is a more feasible and fair way to go. It would be better if somehow xda could link the discussion thread, rather than having a link hidden amongst the posts.
JMHO
Something such like this isn't possible, only if you would create in the Admin Control Panel a special usergroup to move devs to it. Just to much work for such a little thing.
this is not a good idea
and this would be apparent if people have been here for a length of time
im gonna give a scenario here
ok developers can mod their own threads. what if that same dev then does something bad and underhanded, and then a member in the threads knows and posts it in the thread (this has actually happened before). the dev then goes and deleted all traces of this from the thread so the moderators never know of the developers wrongdoing
in a perfect world this maybe a good idea
however at the minute no. this would allow a developers too many tools to cover up any moment of ill judgement
Not a good ideal for me. I'm sorry

Hello and welcome! Lots of info here, just start browsing.
Welcome. Agree with the OP about reading.
What I did to help me learn before rooting my Evo was to just read through the threads in Q&A and General. It gave me a lot of small bits of information that I didn't find in the guides and stickies, and really helped me familiarize myself with what I was getting into. Once I started knowing the answers to some of those questions, I tried to help out. That's really helped me to continue learning.
I'm in the process of doing it again for my boyfriend's Thunderbolt, trying to decipher what small differences there are between the two devices. I know it's usually the other way around - the boyfriend does the rooting stuff for his girl - but we're a couple of odd birds.
Anyway, great to see someone new taking the initiative to search out their questions! It's refreshing to say the least. Welcome to XDA

I had to help my boy root his Thunderbolt and I just skimmed through the Thunderbolt threads for a root method that look similar and one that a lot of people seemed to say had little to no problems and went with it. He came from an Iphone as well and now has become quite a flashaholic. Every time I see him he has a new theme or trying new stuff. From what I have seen from that forum we share some of the same developers so it should not be an issue for you.
Honestly I know a lot of people get scared when messing with their phone but most things are common sense and if in doubt a search in here will help you out. Always read the OP over and over till you feel you got it down....
Enjoy and welcome to Android and XDA ...

Not everyone knows what to search for when they have a problem, should they just be SOL? Don't think there is a guide for troubleshooting yet so it wouldn't be "just another guide" since its the first.

That's a little disingenuous don't you think? The only reason in the first place that search is productive is that questions were asked and answered or information was volunteered. Someone took the time to do so. Why would you take the time to be negative? You should try searching for "forum rules". Here's a couple of points from said rules:
2.5 Courtesy towards other Members...When dealing with any member, provide them with guidance, advice and instruction when you can and always with respect and courtesy. Never post in a demanding, argumentative, disrespectful or self-righteous manner.
10. Help others if you can. If you see posts from others where you can help out, please do. This place exists because people are helping each other...
Have a great day.

It seems as though I was the one breaking the rules at this site because I was the one who recieved an infraction due to the content of my third post. I do realize that I was in the wrong for getting carried away and using the wording that I did in that post. I was really only upset that I was trying to help others that were having trouble with this and got pretty upset when another individual was disrespectful and rude because he was already at the current state on hi skindle that everyone else wished to be at. So I would like to take this post to apologize to asb1264 and the community for the language that i used in that third post, I should have found a more proper way to vent my frustration back to that individual!!!!

There should be CLEAR instructions in the OP of the Blackrose thread. This **** is ridiculous.
What do I need? Do I need the Android SDK? If I do, can I install it on a seperate drive? I don't need ****e clogging up my SSD. No one has stated I need the SDK, hence why I haven't bothered with it. If it is needed, then my point about none of it being CLEAR is reinforced.
Been trying to figure this **** out for hours. Seen countless numbers of posts with people trying to give instructions. I try these things to find that I have missed something because I can't complete a step or some other problem.
And did I mention how helpful the installation video was in the OP? Really good stuff, that.
Any actual help will be appreciated. Gonna jump off the nearest cliff if someone suggests to read through the thread again. Which seems to be the only thing that people like to tell others in these "help" threads.
Cheers.

No, you do not need the SDK installed. You do need the drivers for your device installed though, both for fastboot and normal mode.

Hours? When I got my first smartphone many years ago, I spend months lurking around this site trying to take in as much knowledge as I could before even attempting to flash anything. This is much more helpful. My apologies.
If I were the one creating these sorts of things for others (and myself,) I'd very much like it to be as simple as possible for the end-user. I'd like as much support as possible and I would be isolating the majority by making it more difficult than it could be. I shouldn't need a developer's knowledge to be able to take advantage of a developer's work.
I'm sure I just missed something simple. It wasn't the drivers. After I installed them and tried the Blackrose exe again, it stops at "waiting for device." Read through some of the thread, not understanding half of it, as you would expect, and didn't come across anything that could have helped me with my problem.
Any ideas?

I think what you posted above is where the problem is. People here are not creating things here for others. They are developing something, and sharing it with others.
And I guess, you didn't read the comment in the link in my previous post. Otherwise, it probably would have been more clear.

lol, seriously?
There are 956 posts in the Blackrose thread alone. Expecting someone to read EVERY single post and absorb all of that information at one time is a bit proposterous. I'd bet it'd take a good 3-4 hours to just read that single thread.
I'm not saying we should spoon feed the newbs (especially the ones who can't follow simple instructions, like not posting a question in a forum with a big sticky at the top that explicitly says "WARNING - DO *NOT* POST QUESTIONS IN THIS FORUM - only tips/info/etc."), but at what point do we say... hey, this is how you do it, these 900 posts don't matter, or are outdated, or are duplicate questions...

I WAS being serious. Maybe it's just me, but I like learning, and I like helping those who like to learn. And don't tell me it's because people don't have time to read them...I work 60-70 hours a week, take post-graduate classes, raise 3 kids (which includes going to soccer games, homework, skating and dance lessons), and I still have time to read some threads, write up some guides, and help others.
If I want to flash something, I read the entire thread, so I learn from others' mistakes. When I had my Nexus One and I wanted Blackrose, I read every post in that Blackrose thread, up until I replaced the N1. I guess I have a hard time understanding someone who doesn't, and then complains that the guides should be better, and saying "this $%!& is ridiculous".
One of the things people need to develop skills for, if they're doing anything technical, is SEARCH. It helps a lot to filter out the crap, because it's indeed impossible or at least unreal to read threads of 300+ replies. But searching helps. Noobs should start working on their google-fu.
I agree that Blackrose thread isn't the simplest around. But just think - it's not more and not less, but bootloader replacement! The very thing that noobs SHOULD NOT TOUCH until they understand what they're doing.
So, the first response should be - if you don't understand how to do something, STAY AWAY UNTIL YOU DO. And indeed, go vent somewhere else. This isn't a forum for pleasing users.
