Hi everyone, my apologies if this is in the wrong forum (I'm new here). I had flashed my Samsung Focus 1.3 with the Clean Rom 3.05 (WP 7.8) yesterday without any issues. However, today when I tried streaming music to the car using Bluetooth, I noticed some sound distortion.
At first I thought Zune may have downgraded the quality of my mp3s, and so I transferred them again after making sure the audio conversion was not selected. Unfortunately, the crackling and distortion was still there. To make sure it wasn't my speakers, I switched to a different audio source and music played without any distortion even at loud volumes. I also felt that the bluetooth streaming quality was better prior to flashing the custom rom.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to improve my bluetooth streaming? If not, is there a way to switch back to the factory rom?
Thanks for any advice you can provide!

Hi, thx for pointing this out. I made some changes to some A2DP settings in my HD2 ROM in an effort to stabalize it a bit (HD2 has issues) and I carried them over to this ROM (something that I will remove in my next build) but to change the values back you can delete the following registry entries.:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\A2DP\Settings]
"BitPool"=dword:1E
"MaxSupportedBitPool"=dword:50
"UseJointStereo"=dword:1

That's fantastic news!! I love the work you did on the Clean ROM and was hoping I could keep it rather than flashing back to the factory rom!
Are there instructions on how to go about making this registry edit? I would really appreciate it!
Also, are these values the "default" A2DP settings found on the stock Samsung focus?
Thanks again!

The value I posted above aren't set at all in the factory ROM so just removing them should be fine. I would use Root Tools to do the edit. It can be found over in the WP7 Dev forum.

Before attempting an install of this ROM, I researched and followed Haykuro's instructions and my first attempt worked without issue. That being said...
I've searched plenty on the issue I'm curently having and posted twice in the existing "Unwatermarked HERO thread", but have not seen any information regarding this problem yet other than 3 - 4 other people having the same problem. Quite possibly it's not overly common.
It was pointed out that this issue existed in a previously released "H" cooked ROM and was later solved by Haykuro himself :

Ack.. it's back. I was experiencing this in the early Haykuro 4.0-5 builds.
Haykuro fixed it several builds later. I never did find out what the problem/solution was.

The problem seems to be the amp/preamp for the mic which is causing distortion due to its being overdriven (think electric guitar distortion). If the incoming preamp signal level is too high, it raises the noise floor causing the signal to noise ratio to decrease hence the distortion (in RF anyways). After unzipping the hero-signed.zip file and poking around a bit (I by no means claim to be a developer), I found a file that seems might control these settings under /system/etc/AudioPara4.csv. I could be wrong and would appreciate someone who understands the inner-workings of the hardware/software interface control giving their 2 cents and possibly pointing me in the right direction.
The ROM is aesthetically beautiful and mostly usable. I appreciate all who worked so hard to bring it to its current usable state (props to Haykuro and others whom I may not know of). The main thing holding me back is this one issue as it prevents any use of the phone call functionality. Any serious questions, opinions or insight are greatly appreciated.

I'm having this problem... I can hear people just fine... there is some static but its not too bad...but people on the other end think I'm a soloist for a heavy metal band who added distortion even to his phone...

I've seen that thread, but it claims to make the phone louder. My problem is the ROM's interfacing with the microphone making the callers voice loud and distorted. Does this mod also allow you to reduce volume from its current state? Guess I'll just try it anyway, I've got time to kill.
Thanks for the reply!
Is it intermittent, often reproducible, or 100% of all calls?

Its on every call using the Hero ROM. People tell me it sounds like I'm yelling into the phone and its VERY distorted. Which makes it unusable. ION and all other builds are fine.
This describes my problem exactly...
http://code.google.com/p/sapphire-port-dream/issues/detail?id=89
so I know Haykuro has fixed it b4 on another build.
I love the hero build but this issue and force closes r to much right now until this issue is resolved I'm going back to cyans mod.

Force closing is not the prob I'm having, but I'm willing to help you as much as I can with your problem. I can tell you what steps I took to get the install working in a mostly stable condition. Just let me know.
Using 8GB class 4 w/2 partitions (FAT32 1st and ext2 2nd). Using 500MB for ext2.

Many thanks for your vote of confidence! I pulled (using adb of course) the 3 .csv audio files used in /system/etc on the HERO build (AudioPara_TMUS.csv does not exist in this build):
AudioPreProcess.csv
AudioFilter.csv
AudioPara4.csv
Then pushed those same files I extracted from H's ION build I'm using regularly (which I love; thanks Haykuro again its my favorite build so far!) back to HERO's /system/etc and it seems much more tolerable now. Will need to keep testing but I think that did it. Thanks again man. I havent looked at Meltus thread on increasing audio (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=517745) in depth before today, but it now helped me to understand a little more what I was dealing with. Thanks to all (Meltus's thread included) who pointed me in the right direction. Will update later after more testing. It's 12:37am here in the 50th state so my test calls will have to wait till tomorrow.

I fixed the AudioPara_TMUS.csv problem by just copying the AudioPara4.csv to AudioPara_TMUS.csv all errors went away and have better quality audio, but I am not on hero.

Hi guys using a custom rom - kumars leo 2.2 wwe 1/29/10. Seemed to be going fine, but ive noticed (im sure it was working before) that the sound doesn't work. No ringtones, message alerts or alarm sounds, sat nav. Nothing plays in the media player or warning sounds. If i plug the headphones in it works perfectly - everything. The speaker phone works too, but i think that comes out of a different speaker to the main one.
I just flashed to 2.06.50.23_3 Radio to see if that would help but no go. Anyway to test why its not working?
Thanks.

I had a virtually identical problem at one point in the past. In my case the solution involved one very important thing. Perhaps it will work for you.
Sometimes, if you use "clean-up" software, the program may delete a particular folder that's vital to sounds being enabled. You wouldn't think so, but this folder MUST exist. It's called the Volatile folder. It can be empty, but it must exist (don't ask me why).
It should be located in the Device/Application Data folder. If it's not there, create it. As I said earlier, it can be empty. It doesn't matter. Just make sure you have a folder called Volatile inside that Application Data folder.
Yes, there's another Application Data folder on the Storage Card. Not there! You must put the Volatile folder in Device memory.
Good luck!
Peter
P.S. I'm using a stock HTC ROM, so I don't know if this solution will work for you.
P.P.S. Don't forget to soft reset after creating the Volatile folder.
Hi PeterHTC, thanks for your reply. I do have that folder in aplication data. I removed hspl and put the original o2 rom back on, still same problem - all fine with headphones.
So i gave up and took it back to the shop. They are sending it off, should take about 10 working days, so ill report back.
Cheers.
I know my speaker went out about 13 days after purchase. I thought the same thing, that it was something that got wiped playing with a rom. But with one exception I gave the phone a good tap while it was playing a sound clip and I could get the speaker to function for short times. Then it just finally gave up the ghost. I figured bad wiring. I never dropped it or did anything to come close to harming it.
I'm got a replacement sent out(works great so far) and I still have to send back the other one. Starting to wonder if the first few batches were hastily made and now the costumer is paying for it with phones that keep failing in odd ways. It's to be expected till they have all the bugs out. You can do all the testing you want but till something hits the public you'll never find them all.

Dont panic lol they gave me a super nokia 2330!
HI,
Firstly this started 5wks ago out of the blue.
My problem is I cannot hear a voice from an incoming call!
I can be heard on both incoming and outgoing calls
It has worked on a couple of occasions for a few seconds but is very distorted and sometimes you can hear them faintly in the background for a few seconds.
Works fine on speaker and headphones.
I’ve tried numerous roms clean installs, swapping kernels …blah blah blah
I’m at a complete loss and its driving me friggin crazy!!
I have a Logcat of me making a call.
I’m hoping that someone will be able to decipher and point me in the right direction.
From what I see its routing audio to speakerphone and not handset??
I don’t know if this the correct way to post a log…if not go easy on me…
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
+Thanks for taking the time to look.

Hi,
the only other radio I have tried Leo_RADIO_2.14.50.02 and sadly the same.
Just about to install Dorimanx new rom + kernel v1.6 (Fingers crossed)
Thanks for taking the time to reply...
EDIT: Installing new rom+kernel has made no difference.

Considered that as a last resort.
Haven’t yet looked into it, was hoping that I din't have to go down that road.
I’m assuming that there is a fare amount involved in doing so?
Cheers
Edit: Installed WinMo NRG Energy rom and have the same problem!
I'm now assuming that this is unfortunately a hardware issue
Thanks Dr_Grip for input - Appreciated

Sometimes when I plug my earphones in, the music player shows it as playing, but there's no sound in the earphones. When i remove them, it works fine through the speakers. Tried using different earphones, but same result. Have to restart the phone to be able to use the earphones again.
I have been experiencing this problem since 3 days now.
Has anybody else experienced similar problems? Any solution?
I'm using stock Gingerbread on Moto Defy+.
Please ask all questions in Q&A. Thread moved there.
At first, I see only 2 options, despite trying another ROM:
1 - Try other music players.
2 - Be sure that you haven't changed any option in any Voice Search / Dialer. And if you have changed, try to reset to default options.

Hmn... in tha case, there's still a lot of things to do.
If the problem is with the phone's jack, you can try to clean it with a blow or compressed air.
There's a bunch of apps, like Ringo Pro, that are known to cause some similar issues, as reported in this thread: https://forums.motorola.com/posts/6f261e8427?commentId=564506#564506
After all, if you'r not willing to root and flash other roms in your phone, you might also try bluetooth earphones.

Hi there,
I was getting posts and messages from people who wanted my volumeboost updated for Z2 and Z3, so eventually, I did that.
There's virtually no quality loss in this mod, no dirty hacks, no workarounds.
Z2 is based on lastest stock files as of 13 november 2015, thanks @Jackos
Z3 is based on 23.4.A.0.546, eXistenZ 3.5.0. files (although it seems pretty close to stock, but it might be a bit louder than Z2 mod, report back) thanks @Beetle84
Z3 03.12.2015
Z2 03.12.2015
Please do report back guys if it's too loud, to quiet, whether there are any issues, in the past everything was working well, even on different devices that the mod was originally created for, not to mention different firmwares. Although the zip SHOULD make a backup, it would be better if you make a backup manually, whether backup /system in recovery or just copying /system/etc/mixer_paths.xml to some other directory outside of system.
As always, you do it on your own risk and it's provided AS-IS.
Enjoy!
PS. None of the files are done automatically, all of the changes were made in gedit by hand (linux notepad, just cos I was currently on it). Z2 and Z3 mods were done completely separately.
Hi mate, Z3 version fails to flash, its only 12.5kb, maybe a bad upload?
EDIT: my phone was the issue, it didnt like downloading from dev-host, downloads fine on my PC. Working loud and clear @olokos, thanks mate, awesome work, your time is greatly appreciated.
works fine with debloated Z2 Stock D6503_23.4.A.1.264 and cable headphones
please, could you make BT-Headphones louder too?
sorry for bad english
edit:
i have only changed mixerpath.xml with rootexplorer (644). i did not install the *zip
Thanks guys, glad it works first try.
About bt headphones - I was trying to figure it out a long time ago and I couldn't figure out where it is defined. It's simply not in the file I modified. Most likely it would require modyfing some apks that correspond to bluetooth in /system or even kernel modding. Another thing could be that the volume is limited in the bt device itself.
pushed and permissioned 644 (not flashed) in z3 compact, works very well. Good job! thanks.

What are your headphones? Make and model? Or at least do they include a microphone or are you just talking about regular headphones and speaking to the phone mic?
If the backup worked (I think it did) then you should find the old file in /system/etc called mixer_paths.xml.BAK, just delete the new one and remove .bak from the file name.

I use the in box earphones which come with HTC One, yes they do include a mic. Listening to music and videos are fine but whenever you make a phone call, whether through the dialer or any app like fb messenger there's a very loud screeching noise.
It's propably due to too high volume on headphones call case. Please do send me another pm on the next weekend. I've got 2 projects on my todo list before this.
I'm sorry guys, but unfortunately I'm giving up on this. I don't have as much time as I did before and I need to focus on school and my more important projects. If you want to fix it then copy original and my mixer_paths.xml to some diff tool and check the changes I made. Then lower the one you want to change.
