I was at work today, and i pulled my phone out and it was off. I tried to turn it back on, but it wouldnt. I hooked it to the charger and the light never came on. I had to pull the battery to get it started again. It booted fine, and all seems well. The only thing i see weird is that all the preloaded bookmarks i had deleted long ago, somehow all came back. I was just wondering if anyone else has ever had this happen to them, or what would cause it. My first thought was the battery died, but it was fine.
I would imagine i just went thru that right now. I dont kno what xauses it but it caused me to panic lol you dont have to do a battery pull it wastes time and can break yur back cover(i did ) anyways i think its a phone thing maybe deep sleep? Idk but hasnt happend before

hey all, like most people here, i've been flashing my phones like crazy for the past couple days to trying out all the new roms it's been fine for the last couple days and sundenlly it just stop working this morning. It wouldn't turn on or anything, when i plug the usb in, window gives me an error as it cannot connect to the phone. I try the charger and it wouldn't charge(the charging light on the phone wouldn't turn on). I just got my phone replace last week due to theft. So is my phone bricked? I've flashed my phone alot and each time i wipe everything, could that be the problem? if i take it back to sprint store you think they would send me a new one? thanks.
Take it in and find out...
Just curious... what rom were you running when that happened?

Pull out the battery, remove charger.
Put the battery back in and dont press anything. Plug it into the wall and see after ~60 seconds you get a charge light.
I just got my phone replaced with the exact problem. Took it to sprint and they ordered me a new one under the HTC warranty, no problem. I didnt say anything about flashing just that it stopped charging and would not turn on anymore.

Just remember that if they get the phone to boot after you turn it in and they find out its rooted/ROM'd that they can fine you the entire price of the phone. Not trying to scare you but it has happened to people. However, it does seem there have been quite a few complaints about USB "issues".

I too have had the usb charging issue. Try moving the usb cable around in the phone and see if it contacts. Mine does by lifting up on it. I called Sprint to see what they can do and they said that it is caused by the user. I laughed at them and said some not so nice words then hung up on them. Then took it to a Sprint store and they ordered a new one for me without any questions.
as a side note I am glad they are replaceing it cause now the speaker is blown and the paint is peeling from the power button.
Also, FYI, my kid's hero's charger died on him (the one out of the box). We thought his phone was broken because it would not charge or be recognized by the USB. Then we tried out my charger and, boom, all good.
Worth a shot....
alright guys, thx everyone for the reply, status update: I try everything that was mention here, pull bat and putting it back(several times), moving charging cables, letting the charger sit 60sec, none of it work. I know my phone wasn't out of batteries cuz when i went to sleep it was about 86% left, so i thought my bat blew out on me after a week of usage. so i just left my phone in my pocket and after a while it started getting hot, i was like wtf, and took out the bat immediately. i leave the bat out for about 30min, put that sucker in again, and voila, it power up, everything was back to normal...anyone know wth's going on? of course i'm very happy my phone is working again
So last night at kickball, I sent a text to my wife. The next game, I wanted to see if she texted back, and my phone was off. I didn't remember the battery being low, but thought that perhaps it might have been. When I got home I plugged it in and got nothing. I tried to do the Power/Camera/Reset to see if it would go into bootloader; again nothing. I left the battery out all night, put it back in this morning, still nothing. I've tried usb charging and wall charging as well, with and without the battery. Nothing turns it on... is it done for?
Same thing happened to mine recently. I know the battery was low, and it turned off because of that. Never got it to turn on again.
The only sign of life mine shows is that the red led will turn on if you have it plugged into a charge with the battery out. Other than that, it's a paperweight.
Never got mine working again.
I took mine apart, and somehow got it to turn on again... it was a messy process.. something must be shorted out. Going to have to get something new soon.
i have just the same issue with moto milestone ... i am sure that the battery is fully charged, cause ive charged it with another milestone ... but that one simply won't turn on ... tried different combinations of sd/simcard/battery on and off .. still the same ... Any help would be highly appreciated.
same issue here, mine just stopped working yesterday, battery was fine, i did a soft reset randomly, and then it wouldn't turn back on. Both the talk and end lights are on, that's it..
Mine does the same thing since it was dropped in water. It had'nt been turned on for 2 years since I decided it would work! It still does the red light thing sometimes, but all I got to do is remove battery, try power button and repeat the process until it works. Try it out!
Ok heres my problem,
My phones battery is completely messed up. The phone ALWAYS says that its at %99 battery(and the number never decreases) but after a couple of minutes of use it will turn off by itself, no warning or anything.
I think I know how it happened(as a warning for other ppl). I went on vacation once and I didn't have a charger cuz there were no computers at the hotel, so I brought a random USB wall charger I found laying around(which I later found out it belongs to some spy pen camcorder ).
Unfortunately though it was charging SUUPPERR slow, so I got the crazy idea to charge it while it was off and to my surprise(dramatization) it charged (a lot)faster.
So I kept charging it like that every day and I noticed that every charge took less time than the last. It also started turning off by itself, though not as frequently as now. I thought the problem would fix it self once I charged it on my computer again, but I was wrong. TT_TT
---
Can anyone offer any solutions? I have a G1 with CM5 and clockworks recovery. I know clockworks recovery lets you do something with the battery, but idk how to use that
please help, this is a REAALLY annoying problem thats forced me to go back in time
You need to make sure it's putting out the same amount of power as your regular charger. I'm not 100% sure of this, as all I can do is charge at my computer and I have no idea how that works (as in if computer puts out waaay more power or has a limit of how much to put out) but I've always heard too much can be a bad thing for batterys. Also, don't overcharge.
^^Just posted that in another thread.
sounds like a died battery
Hey guys..right before I left to work I charged my galaxy tab. When i came back from work my galaxy tab was on but it was a blank screen seems like only the back light was only on. Picked it up and it was pretty hot. Tried to turn it on but wouldn't go to the lock screen had to turn it off and turn it back on but everything seems to run okay after it rebooted. Don't want to have the thought of something well go wrong if i leave it to charge without supervision. is anyone having a similar issue like mine? By the way I'm running bonsai rom too..think it might have something to do with bonsai rom?
Thats's the exact same problem I experienced twice, but one time it wasn't charging just sitting idle.

This has been going on for about a week or so.
At first I kept finding it off in the morning after charging, and then it became more common. Mostly happens when the screen is off but not always, I've had it turn off twice whilst I'm using it for example. A couple of times it has needed a long press to restart it before it will turn back on. Right now it has turned itself off and will not turn back on.
Battery has never fallen below about 50% throughout so it cant be that. It doesn't get heavy use so I'm not convinced its overheating. I had a look through the app list and none of them seem to be obvious candidates for the problem, and if i cant get the thing to turn back on I cant even test that.
I think this one is going back to HMV asap but I was wondering if anyone has any ideas for me to avoid the problem with its replacement, or if anyone is having the same problem. Its a shame as I've been really enjoying my Nexus.

Hi, I had the exact same problem and ordered a replacement from the play store. I never found a way to fix it, I would recommend you just get a new one from HMV. I hope this helps
This actually just started happening to me yesterday on my 3 day old 16GB Nexus 7. I kept mine plugged into the AC all weekend, and yesterday watched it shut down itself once. Thought it was a fluke and just turned it back on...left it running overnight...pick it up this morning and it's turned itself off yet again. I guess I'll have to return this one before it completely doesn't turn on anymore!
Bah. Thought that might be the case.
2 days off charge (and some time on charge) and mine still wont turn on.
Definitely going back for replacement.
Elsydeon, it sounds like you should do the same. Took about 4 or 5 days to go from irregular to brick.
I seem to be getting the same thing... Once every day or two I pick up my Nexus and the screen won't turn on, I hold the power button and it starts booting up. I haven't had this while charging (maybe because the screen is on while charging??)
For those of you who traded in for a replacement, did this solve the issue for you?
I was getting this, but was using one of those magnetic cover/cases. If I wrap the cover round the back of the N7 whilst using it, the magnet in the case/cover is sometimes strong enough to turn the device off from the back!
Mine has powered off twice now

Just wondering as well like the last guy if swapping for a new one helped this issue.
I actually have looked at the battery data and think somewhere the nexus has gotten a power spike that turns it off but not sure if that definitely is the issue.
If it is, perhaps it's where we are plugging in or a failure with the AC plug?
Ideas? I've attached a photo. I hope it uploaded.
Thanks.

Me too
unless i hear different from anyone here, going to exchange it for a new one today ... only been 2 weeks from Staples.
Actually going through the data, it's happend the last 3 days now.
I wake up to the white battery symbol.
By the way, for future ref, is bootloading warranty killing? I am in the process or restoring now just in case.
Thinking of getting their replacement plan now too because of this episode.
Thank goodness for titanium backup
Nexus 7 32GB Display Keep Turning Off
My Nexus 7 32GB tablet's display continues to turn off at random times also. It happens while I'm watching a video in landscape. But then I stop the video, go to the home screen, and it still turns off. I already replaced one last week and now its happening to my new one. Anyone got answers? I'm going to call google device support today. Maybe if enough people call, they'll do something about it. Their # is 888-836-3987.
Still happens

My NEW 32 tab worked out fine for a night and woke up today to the full battery indicator and tablet off again.
I have a new insight though, somehow the battery temp is rocketing to 100 and I'm guessing that is when it shuts off.
It may be because I am using SetCPU to limit my CPU speed to 300mhz when the screen is off. Maybe the tablet is trying to update all my apps while I am sleeping? It shouldn't use so much power though.
I'm going to try to create a new command to let it use it's whole CPU as long as it's on AC and screen off and see what happens tonight.
Happened overnight again. No insights? Does anyone think my nexus will finally brick sometime?
I don't know anyway of testing what is up with this thing? Thanks.
Nexus 7 Screen Keeps shutting off - Fixed
To those experiencing issues with their Nexus 7 screen randomly shutting off.
I just received one for Christmas, and thought this dang thing sucks. The screen would stay off and only show for half a second when I click the lock button to turn it back on.
The issue what the case. The the case, when folding back, contains a small piece of metal on the click. This little connection, thought not direct, causes the screen to shut off. I've tested it out multiple times just to make sure.
Again the FIX is, keep metal away from the back of the nexus, it doesn't like anything that can cause a magnetic field. Even if the metal is enclosed by something.
nexus 7 screen turns off
For those of you who are experiencing intermittent screen display going to sleep mode or turning off you can fix it by removing your tablet cover. Some third party tablets come with different strength magnets stitched inside the cover. The magnet is used to activate the nexus tablet smart cover functionality. If you flip the cover to the back of the tablet the magnetic field may cause the tablet to think it should turn off while in use. Get rid of your cover reboot your tablet and notice that the screen will stop turning off. Hope this helps.
Hi, I also had similar problems with my Nexus 7. After removing the back of the unit, I saw that the battery was nearly unplugged. I simply popped the connector in and voila! no more SOD, turning off, nothing.
So, the Nexus was probably turning itself off because there was randomly no more power comming from the battery.
Here's a link on how to remove the back shell : http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nexus+7+Teardown/9623/1
Look at Step 4.
That Fixed It!

I was researching before going to get my Nexus 7 replaced today as it also started having this issue. After reading your post, I took your advice and removed the back to find that my battery connection was also barely intact! Thus it would lose power any time it was bumped slightly to that side. Now that the connection is securely in place, I've had no more problems!! Thanks to you StefGou!!!
Hey guys. A few hours ago I encountered the same said problem. I woke up to find the battery was depleted so I charged it. It turned on by itself and stated that I have 6% battery left. As I wait, suddenly the screen was like distorted and give me static sound then shut off. Numerous trials later end up the same. So I just put on the charger thinking to let the battery full. To my surprise, there was no indicator that my N7 is charging. I just leave it charging and left. About an hour I got back it still nit charging. I boot the N7 and it still on 6% battery. So I followed you guys handsomely instructions to remove the 3rd party cover and now my N7 is back. Thanks guys. But I wonder why it is happening now? I've been using the cover since forever.
