My apologies if this is a dumb question, but what is the latest version of android for the Nook Simple Touch?
I am currently running 2.1, but would preferably be running at least 2.2. I haven't kept up with any of this for about a year or so, and was wondering if there is there any supported version like this?
Thanks!
Nope. Unfortunately, Android 2.1 is all we have now.
Has there been any updates since?

It has been almost a year later. Had any new versions come out since this thread was lasted updated?

Nope, but a new device came out, the Nook Glowlight aka NG2. It has a newer versio of the firmware used on the NST & NSTG and its still Android 2.1. IOW, don't hold your breath for anything newer.
Considering that the 8GB Nook HD is selling for $99 (which is cheaper than the latest Nook Glowlight) I wouldn't bet B&N is expending a lot of engineering time on the eInk models.

..fully working Honeycomb? What do you think? Is a fully working Honecomb ROM possible? May it be 3.0 or 3.1 with all those nice honeycomb-native-apps working?

Ha? We have two out already and only zoom has it out really...for the new version. Everybody is working with the prerelease sdk. Those in the development section ARE honeycomb and it cannot yet be full driver ready till the release of source or until new release gets ported over. If you mean from Barnes and noble, I do not know. I am running leaked transformer version and it is smooth as it can be.

Which one is that? I thought that all those Honeycomb images out yet for the Nook aren't smooth at all and have compatibility issues with many apps. And The tablet versions from some apps (like GMail) aren't even working...

I forgot to mention it is on my transformer...not nook I was running leaked 3.1. I found that both of the nook honeycombs where semi solid with for me just to test honeycomb. I knew off the bat they are pre-production HC and I treated them as such. Cm 7 for nook is solid and been very content with it. The reason why a lot of apps have fc is the simple fact there was really no production sdk for development till recently. And how do you develop when you dont have the right environment. I want honeycomb bad...but if it is not there, it is not there...what I want is the new kor-el chip tablet...but I gotta wait till end of year for that. For now, honeycomb is just a toy on the nook and I would not really depend on it...that is my opinion, there are others whose it daily and more power to them. It will take a developer to port it for the nook most likely and that will be off in the near, medium or far future...I do not know.
The new Android Market has been out for a week now and I'm still not seeing it on my tablet. I'm not rooted and I'm running 3.2. My phone which is rooted got the update a day after it came out. So to my question.
Does anyone have the apk for the new market? I tried downloading one from Android Central but it seems it was meant for phones because the layout is screwy and it gave me a second market icon. I'd like something meant for tablets.
Thanks to anyone that can help.
Mine is 3.2 and also not rooted. Haven't received it yet, but I think it will come soon.

There's absolutely no reason (from B&N poit of view) for them to update it beyond Eclair officially. They have all the features they want, and they can add a bunch of games and features that'll work in 2.1 if they wanted to.
Someone would have to make a rom to get us beyond 2.1, and that hasn't happened within the 6 months it's been out so far. I honestly doubt we will see a full rom until the price drops even more and more people get their hands on this device.
I just received a NEW NC from B&N as a replacement for my certified pre-owned unit that was damaged upon arrival. They upgraded me to a new one which was very nice of them indeed. They told me it would already have v1.4.2 on it. I just checked it out and this one has v1.3 on it. Is there a reason that I would want to keep 1.3 on it and block all future OTAs? Or does it not matter and should I just let it upgrade itself?
P.S. - I'm going to be running CM7 from an SD card.
Thanks folks.
Hi I literally received my Nook Color 1.3.0 on the mail today. This afternoon I rooted mine watching this youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UV1cBDpNQic which made the process super easy.
I would recommand keeping 1.3.0 for root because I found the whole process to be quite easy although I don't know if new updates necessarily make it any harder. I mean after all if you are gonna go Cyanogemod why bother with the Nook updates.
I installed and tried two of the unoffical CM9 all day. Loved the interface, but after constant wifi issues and such I decided CM9 is just not ready yet for me. Been playing with CM7 Mirage Kang all night. Other than it being super fugly compared to CM9 things are working great so far.
Thanks to all Nook Color CM9 Developers for their hard work by the way. Looking forward to the Offical Nightly Builds whenever that may be.
I just bought a new Nook Color last week from Staples. It still only has 1.2 on it.

If you are going to run CM exclusively, why keep B&N firmware on eMMC? You'll gain a lot of flexibility loading CM on there instead.
If you are going to bother with B&N firmware (I do), then 1.4.x is a significant change. I think it's better than older versions, but a lot of folks liked the previous functionality. A big question is what you intend to do with it. For some magazine subscriptions, you must be running 1.4.x.
And of course, the bloody thing will update itself at some point if you don't block OTA updates.
Just want to make sure before I order a new one, or possibly a refurb, that regardless of what version of B&N's OS comes preinstalled, I'll still be able to ditch it and get CM on there. I thought some time back that they locked them down but I could be wrong, it's been a while.

It should be fine with the NC.
And don't confuse the NC with the NT (NOOK Tablet)
