[Q] cant open google drive files - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I can't open any of my Google drive files on my nexus 7. I have no problems opening the same files on my galaxy s3.
Is there a limit to the number of active android devices on my Google account? I have flashed many ROMs
and had to deactivate several instances of my phone in Google play music so that it would work. Just wondering if something similar
is happening here. If so, I haven't found a solution on my own. Thanks for any help.
I have been really impressed with this community and thought I'd ask for your much appreciated time.

Its about the multi users on 4.2

I'm sure everyone here uses and loves the multi users feature. It gives a true independent workspace for each user, however it's not always fascinating.
While the apps need to be downloaded in each profile, the main issue is about locally stored data.
For instance, I want to share some pictures that I have in my gallery with my wife on the same device but can't figure out how to do it.
Would appreciate if anyone can share a solution to be able to share local files with another user profile

Well the apps actually are NOT downloaded for each user. Only one copy is used by both.
Have to think about intentionally sharing pictures. I am sure Google Drive would work - but that is overkill, and you might wind up with two copies...
sharing of local files is the main issue

Nope, I have no use for multi-user on the N7 or any tab. To me, a tablet is a personal device, just like a phone. I have no need for multi-user on a Nexus 4 either, it's pointless.
Because storage is limited on the Google Nexus devices (discounting usb) both my wife and I have our own. Each is setup for our personal preferences and taste. If we want to share data, it's easily copied, or shared with Google drive, dropbox whatever.
We are both remaining on JB 4.1.2 and have no immediate plans to update.

[Q] Opening Multiple Results from Google Now

Hi Everyone,
I like to think of myself of pretty proficient user. I have been pretty good at figuring things out since the Cupcake days..but this particular issue has plagued me for some time now and I'm not sure if there is a solution. I have also done a ton of online searching with no success..but I cannot imagine that I am the only one having this problem. In the old days, the default Google search in Android would perform the search in the Android browser, allowing you to open multiple tabs from the results. Ever since they made the search a seperate app, we lose that ability. Now, you have to search, open result (launches browser) and navigate back to Google Now to every time you want to open another tab. Is there any way around this?? Is there a way to open multiple tabs on your browser from the Google Now search results? Thanks in advance!
Just use the browser to search

If you're interested in multiple searches, why not just search directly from the browser in different tabs? It would save you a step for sure... especially if you have voice keyboard activated.

[Q] Google Play issues after cloning Nexus 7

Hello,
I currently work for a market research company using Nexus 7 tablets to conduct surveys and questionnaires. We have a DP team which develop the apps for surveys which we put out on Google Play or can add manually. We currently have over 60 Nexus 7 tablets (2012 model) running Android 4.4.2. The current workaround securing the tablet is using Go Launcher, App Lock and WiFi Manager using a restricted account with Encryption on each device. This set up fine... however the two accounts setup is a hassle for the end users who are not technically proficient or use tablets or smartphones on a daily basis, so we need to down it one account. Also secondly, when we have new surveys and push them out, it does download to the main admin account of the tablet, but the hassle of, making it active for the restricted account is what the issue is because giving the end user access the main account defeats the whole purpose of what we are trying to do.
So I have managed to get hold of 2 tablets for testing, unlocked and rooted them both using the handy Nexus Root Toolkit. On one device, I created a main account, with Nova Launcher (instead of go launcher), App Lock and WiFi Manager. I have not put any encryption yet that will come after. I then created a nandroid backup of the tablet in which I restored it to the other device. The restore was perfect and at this point I thought that it's managed what we needed to do. However, on the two devices, we have two separate Google accounts, we have done this to spread out the devices across different accounts due to the amount of tablets we have. Upon pushing out an app to one device from Google Play, it would for some strange reason try to download on the other device and throw up an error message saying "could not download", even though the tablets have two separate google play accounts.
I made another nandroid back up, but this time without any google play/account information stored on the tablet but this to no avail did help. I even tried changing the device ID from Titanium Backup on both devices and still did not work and Google Play seems to think both devices are the same.
So my question is, what do I need to do in order to remove any Google Play info from the devices so google play doesn't recognize them both as the same device.
Everything else works perfectly fine so far and still are testing this out.
Thank you in advance
Irfan
Any one got a solution for this?

[Q] Google Play Books Issues

Hi Guys
Not entirly sure where this goes.
I love using Google play books as its the best close platform reader I can find.
The issue I have is that on my Note 3 when I select to download a book the size of the download is extremely large.
For example I tried to download a book which was 3mb and the total data for the appp shot up to 388mb. When I had download a slection of around 15 books the data was 7.2gb before I noticed. The downloads of boxes tend to fail alot its almost as if it fails then starts again without deleting the partial download previous.
I also noticed an issue today where the app downloaded over a gb for what I can see to be no reason, its also as it was downloading anytime it found wireless ran through the battery in around ten hours.
Has anyone came across this before and managed to get it resolved ?
Its a shame there is so many problems with it given how good a service it can be.
Cheers Guys

Google Now in China

I see in your nicknane that you are located in Shanghai. Google Now is not available in China. You need to trick the gps and the playstore into thinking you are in a supported location to enable Google Now launcher. I am in China myself, that's how i do to force enable Google Now.
If you need help regarding this, just tell me, i can't provide any link (market unlocker), but i can guide you through the procedure if you need.

Ok, I have both, good and bad news. The good news is you can activate Google Now, the bad news are, it doesn't work without a vpn, it will only display schedule reminder's, custom reminders, weather cards, location reporting being unavailable in China, most cards aren't accessible. You should definitely NOT BUY a Google Now based smart watch if you live in China, it will be more or less useless ... Yes, looks appealing, but I renounced, until some chinese services actually clone Google Now WITH ENGLISH LANGUAGE SUPPORTED, one can't use a smartwatch in China, not like we would do in any other country anyway.
IMPORTANT: You must root to be able to force Google Now activation.
you need this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lexa.fakegps&hl=en
you also need market unlocker, but I can't provide a link, a search on Google will solve this.
You also need a vpn link to a country that fully support Google Now.
First thing to do, switch the location mode to device mode only, since we're gonna fake our location, we only want GPS to report that location.
Then you need to switch to airplane mode, this in order to disable the country check from the phone operator sim card.
Activate your wifi, launch your vpn connection.
Launch the fake gps location, and set it to a supported country location (would be wise to chose the same location than the play store and the vpn connection)
Launch market unlocker to set Google play store on a supported country (this step wasn't needed before last Google service update).
Launch Google play store, to actually validate the new location.
Then go to Settings->Accounts->Google->Search->Account and Privacy
from there, click on Google account to actually logg off from it.
Clear data from google search, google play store, and google play services.
In theory, you're done, if the location if fully faked, logging in again into Search will set you to the supported location you chose, and let you enable Google Now. From there you actually can disable the gps fake location app and market unlocker, although those are very useful.
No idea how long this is going to work, the need to fake market location is actually recent, wasn't needed before.
On daily usage, i get the Google Now schedule cards, weather cards, some cards related to my personal search, and any card that isn't location based (sports competition results etc ...).

kldoc you have provided detailed instructions which I will definitely try to follow - at least to honor the time you spent to reply me.
I will come back with any news - hopefully soon. :good:
PS. I could not quote your message in my reply as am new here and I cannot include links in my messages for now.
Notifications and Quick Setings problems
Hi there, and first of all many thanks for all the work you're putting into making Lollipop/Omnirom available on the Nexus 4.
I've had a slight issue with the ROM, and I'm not sure what information is relevant so I'll post what I know and you can let me know if there's anything else you need.
The problem is that I don't get any notifications in the notifications bar and I can't access the quick settings bar. Any ideas what might be causing this?
I installed the latest (18/04/15) version over the top of an Omnirom 4.4 installation. I haven't wiped data, because it didn't seem necessary according to your post. I can do a full wipe as a next step if necessary, but I'd obviously prefer not to!
I'm running Google Apps Minimal Edition (http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/gapps-google-apps-minimal-edition-t2943330/), which basically has just the play store and libraries. One of the reasons I use Omni is that I don't use google services (aside from to buy apps from the play store) and don't like to have all the extra stuff hanging around on my phone. I'd be willing to try a different minimal package if it is possible that this is the problem, but I'm not really very keen to install a full gapps package such as Banks.
Many thanks once more,
Dave

I ended up wiping /system, reflashing Omni and flashing a new build of the PA GAPPS. I guess you could flag the package I was using before as not working in your OP to avoid more questions about things that aren't due to your ROM!
Random reboots
I am experiencing random reboots up to various times a day and I don't have anything strange installed.
Excellent!!
I've been running this 5.1.1 build on my N4 since Saturday - because the stock 5.1 update DESTROYED my battery life. So far, this build has been rock solid stable, my battery life has returned to where it was under 5.0.2 (which was great), and I have found zero issues. Thanks for the EXCELLENT build!!
Hello folks, I want to apologize for not following this thread as I should have, thing is actually didn't have any notification about activity here, that's the reason why.
For those still on builds that were done before 5.1.1, I highly recommend you flash latest 5.1.1 build, I experienced the same issues with battery on builds prior 5.1.1, and so far, 5.1.1 seems to runs really well on Nexus 4. 02/05/2015 should be the build to flash.
I'm actually running mini gapps package from Slim, on which I add a google now launcher flashable zip (restrictions due to the country where I live makes it too complicated for me to install Google now from the store). I prefer having most apps updated from Google play store than through a flashable zip.
@julope334 I don't have those random reboots on latest build, but if you still get those reboots on latest build, please provide a logcat so I can see what is going on.
