I made a request to the owner of a brick, which ROM was at time of death, he has not responded yet
Yes, There are few more cases already emerged
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2065626
Here defined case seems half death (accessible download mode), some cases having full death, no any sign of live.
Most have h/o sudded switch off and never boot later, just proximity light on while charging on.
hmmm feel sorry for those who didnt have warranty :/

interesting fact is that the owner of a brick found moment of death and described it..
bad luck !

This is a very serious issue one of my friends n2 also just suddenly went off. Kindaa harsh for phones wich we paid so much for :/

Hey guys,
yesterday I unpacked the latest note 2 kernel image (LL7) to find out, wether samsung integrated the SDS-fix for the note 2 as well. I found the two strings („CMD13(VC) failed“ and „VTU00M“) in the kernel stringtable - so I conclude that samsung is aware of affected note 2 devices too.

damn that really made me sad
Samsung should release the damn ota with the fix to all countries
i hope my note2 will not die soon
edit : for now only 6 countries got LL7 update which maybe has the fix
hi,
here, i quote my post from other thread "Sudden Death on GSIII" on the Q&A Forum.

same thing happened to my note 2 last 03 january 2013.
i have just put the device inside my bag in perfect condition and after 1 hour it never opens/start up.
when i push the power button it only shows a flash of red blinking near the proximity/camera and nothing happens.
i tried to charge in wall (overnight) and pc (12 hours) hoping it just drained its battery to no avail.
now, i'm still searching the house for the invoice to return for warranty.
i think i'm one of the unlucky ones.
edit: using UAE stock rom, 4.1.1 N7100XXALJ3/N7100OJVALJ2

1. unrooted / latest stock UAE rom & kernel (see above) / no UV or OC
2. booting to download / recovery mode not working (total brick)
3. plugged in to wall charger / pc shows flash of red blinking near proximity / camera (also when pressing the power button).
4. yesterday just found the sales invoice and sent the device to service center and was advised to wait for 10-15 working days.
hoping the new kernel can fix this sudden death syndrome so no one else will have the nightmares we (victims) all got.

mike

Indeed, I am just asking myself why the f... they are not able to release something of sich an importance as soon as possible. First the exynos security flaw and now this. Wanted to wait for the Swiss version of stock dll7. I will be flashing another one the moment I come home. Very annoying for such an expensive phone!

This issue became prominent in November imao.
That was a month after note 2 was released.
They couldn't have done anything.
I think dll7 should have fixed it as it updated the bootloader or kernel I think.

I put this question forward onto samsung because my note 2's currently in service, and I got an email back (not into my email but into the "My Enquiry" part of 'my samsung' and i cant access the damn reply?! if i click the hyperlinked number it says please log in and kicks me out untill i log back in, and it just loops. ) but this a whole new issue. anyway, i will post their response on here as soon as i can open the damn thing without it kicking me off. - it's like they dont want me to see it... hmmm
I asked on the live chat of the Dutch samsung website if the new update will fix the issue and I asked her if Samsung was aware of the problem. She told me that they indeed are aware of the problem and that the new update will fix the issue. Talking about 4.1.2.
Hi,
Sad to say but my Note2 4.1 2 died.
After a very quick repair of a total of 7 days i have now a working device again.
With complements for the Dutch repair centre of Samsung!
They replaced the motherboard for a version V3.
I have to say the 7 days without the Note 2 were terrible. It is unbelivaible what you are doing with this device. I was using my iphone 4 those days, man.........!
Yeh, you know the word i ment.

Edit 2:
Well can't say that the Android OS battery hog issue has been totally fixed. Android OS still shows a lot of usage. Android System process on other hand seems to have gotten down.
Battery @ 87% (with Juice Defender running)
Apparently the Android OS Battery issue is a problem caused by Samsungs Drivers which hog the CPU even while the device is in standby mode.

Well I took the plunge. First I tried Criskelo's ICS V5.1, but I didn't like the theme and very quickly found things that didn't work properly, so then I tried stock LQ2, using Mobile Odin Pro to keep root and the CF-Root V5.6 kernel.
It's early days, but so far I'm happy. Getting set up was a pain - it was only after 2 attempts that I discovered that Bookmark Sort & Backup isn't ICS compatible and was screwing up my Browser. I therefore had to do 2 complete wipes using CF-Root v5.6. This claims to have (probably) fixed the superbrick bug, and it certainly worked fine for me - whew!
I'm missing all the toggles of Jkay because there isn't a version of the 15 toggle mod for stock LQ2, but hopefully that'll come soon and SwipePad replaces the quick launcher panel nicely.
So no regrets yet, but there's still the odd lag here and there, and I can't say it's a significantly better experience. Also I can't sketch to save myself, so the new S-Pen applications aren't important to me. Still, got to move with the times! There's still nothing to replace my wonderful Note.
UK ICS Build (Carphone Warehouse) for Note is super stable
DQ of the day?
Downloaded & installed N7000XEULP4 via this site.
I intend to root again as mobile odin failed to inject root - yes I followed the good Dr's direction.
I used PC Odin, reset to factory in stock recovery (post flash) after 15min wait at the Samsung logo (very tentatively re-set due to massive information about deleting killing partitions, mmc sections etc & the unit is now one stock ics 4.0.3
So after I have rooted following http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360.
I wish to re-load a previous ics (paranoid android) am I likely to hit the 'brick-wall')?
Need to ask I killed one note already :mad,

ARM Trust Zone. (link)
The zeros in the other PIT file is padding.
Which is which, is the padded the one you downloaded or the one comming with the update?
Not sure if the padding it required for flashing, I suppose not, so if they are identical expect for those zeros, they are identical.
The pit "with zeros" is the one I downloaded from the device.
The one without zeros is the one found on the internet (I suppose 29.03.2012 version).

The padding is probably done by Odin anyway.

I actually want to reflash everything possibly onto my phone. I believe the modem area is corrupted because I can get data but no talk or text. It's a common issue and people say only sending the device to Samsung will fix it, but the phone is from the UK and I live in the US. How would I go about flashing these with ODIN, and would they do anything? I've tried EVERYTHING possible to fix the issue, including flashing new modems, ROMs, stock ROMs, kernels, formatting partitions, etc.
Im curious if there is a full firmware that will format all data on the phone. Like DATA.IMG in galaxy s2 i9100.

Just got a new S9, trading in my olddddd S3. Turned it back on before sending it off, and it's modded to ****. Needed to revert it before I sent it back! Could not flash anything to it. Tried with your .pit file. and it's worked perfectly!
Thank you!

OMG,
Sooo many years. And it's still serving somebody!
Please don't respond to me with: you should not have to disable secure download etc..
I just realy need to disable the secure download so I can flash my SM-G900T back to SM-G900F firmware.
WTF You don't flash firmwares between different models!
I dont think you can disable it, even if you can as justinxfan said you can't do complete firmware flashes of a different model.

I know, I did it like a 6 months ago, I bought a 900F and then flashed it with 900T firmware and now I can't flash it back to it's original fw.
So there really is no way to disable secure download?

That's impossible there's no way you could've done that unless it was a G900T disguised as a fake G900F or you bricked it. What model does it say in Download mode?

Download mode now says SM-G900T
But I know for sure it was SM-G900F when I bought it.
And if I check my imei number on imei.info it shows SM-G900F
http://www.imei.info/?imei=352558067456393
It's pretty difficult to change what download mode reports, I don't know so I won't go as for as to say impossible, I would trust it though, if everything software related is saying 900T and the sticker says F I would trust download mode more.

It's a G900T. It was never a G900F. Many people have the same situation. They buy the S5 thinking it's the G900F but sellers falsely label it as the G900F while it's a different model. This is because the G900F will sell much better because it's not a carrier model.

That sticker behind the battery looks pretty fake. The battery on the S5 is 2800 Mah, not 1800 as it shows on the sticker.
But what about the imei? When I check it on imei.info
it shows 900F.
Me too... My phone before is G900F and i brick it and then i don't know i just flash something and then it become G900K. My model version at the back is g900f but in download mode is g900k.

Well, certainly without some advanced knowledge and research flashing entire firmwares between models is ill advised for sure..
However, I have an SM-N9100 =- that's the Chinese duals SIM variant Note 4 -- and I've gotten more than a few different Note 4 firmwares to function just fine thank-yew.
I'm still figuring out HOW I managed to do that.. LOL
You can try to flash Firmware in binary form (SamFirm), I had an issue with flashing unbranded firmware on my S5 as it always told me wrong partition size (I think for CSC). Flashing in binary form fixed it. So probably (safe) repartition phone is only possible this way.
Another thing you can try is to downgrade your firmware to KitKat. For me it helped once restoring lost IMEI in combination with EFS Professional.
But if your IMEI is still alright (*#06#) make a EFS Backup first. Samsung made it far too easy to corrupt EFS partition, happened to me already a few times, but always had a backup after the first time that fixed it in a minute. Otherwise it's a lot of work.
