Hi guys,
I thought I'd share a small tip that may save someone irritation. I had trouble mounting a USB thumb drive with an OTG microUSB to usb adapter to my GT-7105 Note 2. I'd get the 'USB connector connected' notification but not a 'USB mass storage connected' notification. It wouldn't mount.
After much wringing of hands the solution was to connect the connector to the phone BEFORE pugging the thumb drive into the connector. Connecting the drive and adapter before the phone just didn't work.
Strange, but a solution nonetheless.

Just curious what all can be done with the mini USB connector on the Wizard other than Active Sync and charging.
Could the device be used to charge a bluetooth headset that also takes mini USB?
Possible to add a pocket drive for more storage?
I am pretty sure with the level of talented people here that someone has found ways to maximize functionality through this port.
it's only for charging and file trasfer
the device doesn't support usb host so you can't use a drive, or keyboard, etc with the usb
With WM5Storage or CardExportII the miniSD card can be used as USB FLASHDRIVE
Possible?
With a mini USB B male to USB A female adapter would the 8125 be able to use usb drives you plug into it?
look up "WM5torage"
I reworded the post
i dont think it will work as wizard does not have usb host support
could it be made to work? that would be awesome
Hey guys!
I have a Transcend StoreJet 500gb external HDD that I want to connect to my Nexus 7 (2012). Flash based usb sticks work fine, but this hard disk with the actual spinning platter doesn't. I found out that you need to "power the hard drive with a usb hub".
I don't have a usb hub, so I thought of this. Since my External HDD has a usb cable with two usb connectors, can I plug one of them into the Nexus 7 battery charger and the other one into my nexus 7 with a OTG cable?
Can I power it properly like that?
Or is it dangerous?
If I only connect it to my nexus 7 it makes beeping sounds and doesn't get detected. Not much power output on the Nexus 7....
Please help!
Thanks in advance.
You need a powered USB hub, they aren't that expensive.
Sent from my Nexus 7(2012) that has zero issues.

Yes you can do that, it is not dangerous. I power my external WD Passport HD by plugging one usb connector into the pc for power and the other into the OTG usb cable. My drive won't spin unless supplied with the additional power. I have also tried it by plugging the connector into an a/c adapter instead of the pc usb port, which also worked fine.

Connecting it to a/c adapter + tab worked! :good:
Thanks!
Ps: I tried that before too. Didn't work then. Now it worked. Weird.
Hi all,
I have a similar problem with my N7 attaching a small USB powered HDD to watch HD movies stored on that drive. Thing is, when I attach the HDD on my USB OTG cable, all i hear is a repeated "clack..clack" and nothing happens, the HDD doesn´t start. So the other day I got my Nexus 5 and for fun I tried to use the SAME HDD with the same cable and same adapter on the N5 and it worked flawlessly! Starts up, Stickount mounts it and boom!
Now how can it be that one device can work with the HDD and one not? I´mm guessing it may be related to AC voltage levels, but shouldn´t the Nexus 7 be able to deliver the same or even more power to the HDD than the Nexus 5?I don´t get it....
Thanks,
Kusie

I wouldnt try charging using an OTG cable, Sounds risky
Does the G6 support USB otg? The reason I'm asking I bought a borescope camera and can't see to get it to work. Camera only cost $10 and if I can get this working I can sell my $1300 Snap-On camera that is the same thing
Same thing? Really?
I think he's basically referring to storage and photo quality together
Yes it is support usb otg

What do I need to do for this to work. I plugged in a USB drive and didn't work. My wife's S7 Edge worked no issues. Ideas? I have TMobile G6.

Meaning I can use it to look through spark if hole or injector nozzle to see cylinder walls. Resolution should be almost identical except I have a HD+ screen on my phone that may help it look a little better.

Did you pick up an otg adapter dongle? The one I have is the "Anker USB-C to USB 3.1 Adapter".
No but I'll definitely pick one up.

I ordered that exact one works perfect. It's weird I have a different adapter that didn't work I guess it's for charging only.

At the top of the screen from the notification area, it showed USB icon and you can click on it to see files.
I didn't found solution for my problem, and i think there is no need to open new topic, but if you know - help me!
From purchase my H870I had a problem with USB OTG.
When memory card micro SD is inserted and mounted, everything is working properly.
When I connect USB OTG USB adapter with USB flash drive, or USB OTG memory card reader, then in notification area is "Android System - Reading USB Drive" all time.
In System settings - storage
is the information about internal memory and and memory card capacity and usage, and "USB Drive - checking"
In that state a cannot access any file on memory card. For example I can see photos and albums, but after opening one of them there is icon, that file is corrupted.
I need to reboot phone to memory card work properly again.
To see files on USB OTG device i need to unmount memory card in settings, and then plug USB OTG. After unplugging USB OTG I must mount memory card again.
Did you have a similar problem? I must say, that back to factory state, and oreo update (also last ThinQ update) didn't resolve my problem. Do you have any solution? Can you give your ideas to resolve this problem?
I'd try a second usb flash drive. If you get the same hanging issue, I'd expect it's something bad with your usb otg adapter. Sometimes an adapter might work okay with one phone, but be kind of on the hairy edge and not work with a second phone.
I use the anker usb c to usb otg adapter a lot with my g6, since I first got it over a year ago. I do transfers to multiple flash drives.
Good luck!
I tried a different USB card reader, and it's working perfectly. Thanks for help!
