There seems to be a bug in the backspace of the handwriting "Keyboard" (native Samsung).
EDIT: Happens in Chrome Browswer
When you place the cursor in the middle of a line of text (such that you have characters on both sides of the cursor) and press the backspace button, it will behave unexpectedly.
It first deletes one character, then moves the cursor one space to the right.
This results in the deletion of the wrong character upon Second pressing of the delete button.
This is extremely annoying and makes correcting mistakes very difficult.
Can anyone confirm this problem?
Android 4.0.4
Are you having this problem within a browser text field or in note taking application. It is quite common for keyboards to show strange behavior in browser text fields. This is normally the fault of the browser if I have understood correctly.
I use a keyboard called messagease and it to can do some pretty strange things in some browsers. Some functions like "delete" do not work at all. Delete becomes backspace in this forum.
If the problem occurs in a browser write and inform the developer
yes you're right it does seem to be browser related. This problem does not emerge in Firefox.

I've got an annoying problem with my hd2, it doesn't want to stop interfering when I type messages in an other language than english. I've gone into to touch input options and disabled pretty much everything there so that it doesn't suggest or autocorrect anything but still it keeps doing it.
Is this a bug?
On the left side of your keyboard, near the "Z" letter there is a button. Press it to highlight ABC instead of XT9. I believe this will solve the problem.
This can be a little difficult to explain, but I'm hoping someone else here has a fix, or at least can confirm it happens to others.
I'm using a stock HTC Magic on Rogers (so 1.5 with perfected SPL, still unhacked). I bought it this way.
Not every time, but quite often I will begin typing in an application such as message or browser, and every button press on the keyboard will trigger a "scroll up" as if I had scrolled up on the scroll button.
This is extremely annoying, as it results in each button press pushing the focus from the text box up to whatever is above it, forcing me to manually scroll back down to enter the next letter.
It is application specific. Once it happens in one application it stays broken only in that application until I kill that process.
Any ideas?
Note: This doesn't happen in landscape, but that could simply be that "scroll up" has no function in landscape since the entire screen becomes a text box and there's nothing to switch focus to.
Yeah I'm seeing the same. On custom roms as well. Sorry I don't know of a fix, except perhaps switching to plain android keyboard (but that's hardly an improvement).
Is anyone else experiencing the following two issues with the physical kb:
1) Start to compose a text or email for example
2) Slide open the physical keyboard and want to use a "symbol" character
3) So -- press FN then Spacebar
Result - no window pops open with the symbol characters like it should
Strangely enough - with no texting or email app open -- just from the home screen for example -- sliding open the physical keyboard and pressing FN then spacebar -- the window with the special characters does pop open
Second question -- anyone else noticing that after a single press of FN or caps-on keys, their lights (at top of physical kb) each remain on after having then pressed an alpha key?
Thanks --
Do you use swift key? Sounds like your problem to me.
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
Yep -- that was it. I uninstalled swift key - and problem is solved. A shame that the app interferes with CM 7 in that way -- I kind of got used to swiftkey
I really appreciate your help --
hi guys
i know this is more like an android question than the note...but hope my fellow note owner can help me solve this
i am an iphone user previously and whenever i wanna correct text in a search box, all i have to do is to press the word, hold it, and the magnifying glass comes up and i can scroll it left to right to place the curser right on the letter i want to edit
however with anroid there is no such magnifying glass and i must tap the letter i want to make the changes to..this might takes few trys to get the curser right beside the letter i want to make changes to...however my biggest problem is that i cannot correct words that are beyond the length of the search bar
for example the width of the google search bar only fit 3 words, and the forth or fifth word is not display...how do i scroll to these words to malw corrections ? it is annoying as i usually need to erase the whole phrase to make corrections ...
also how do i scroll up and down with forum boxes like this one i am typing in...iphone use two fingers...
thank you!!!
To place the cursor, just tap the screen where you need it. If it's not in the right place, put your finger on the pointy topped blue handle just under it and slide it where you need it.
When using the Swype keyboard (long press on any text box, select input method, then choose it from the list of installed keyboards) you can just tap on any word and it'll bring up a list of other words you might have meant to type. Tap on the one you want and the word changes. Makes for very quick editing of text. If the word's not in the list, just hit the Swype key, the word is highlighted, and Swype it again. Swyping is where you put your finger on the first letter of a word and drag it to the other letters, then lift it when done. It'll automatically insert spaces since each Swype is a word. It's a lot faster than pecking out text on conventional keyboards.
For scrolling large text boxes where the text more than fills it, just drag it up and down with one finger. Works fine for me in this post I'm doing now. The issue with the google search box where long entries go past the end does suck. I haven't found anything better for that than just deleting it all and starting over (Swyping from Swype key to letter A selects all.) Or sometimes you can just hit search then change it on the Web page.
BTW, concerning large text boxes, I've found Opera Mobile is the only browser that reflows the text inside so you don't have to constantly scroll left/right to see what you're writing. You couldn't pay me to write a post like this on any other browser!
Edit: on some keyboards, Swype included, you can bring up a set of arrow keys you could use to scroll over to the right on those long entries in the google search box.
Hi,
I have noticed a weird problem with my Iconia A500's keyboard for some time. It seems that I can't hold any key pressed anymore; when I do it looks like the key gets pushed only once. E.g., if I hold the 'g' key, instead of multiple g's appearing only one gets written down. That would't be that much annoying but it seems I can't activate caps lock anymore (when I hold it so it activates it does exactly the same action as when I click it briefly, that is capitalize only te next letter) , the smileys key (it justs inserts ' ' no matter how long I press it instead of displaying te smiley menu) or backspace (now if I want to delete a sentence I have to press backspace once for every letter -- very annoying!!). Also, sometimes, when I'm typing, a certain key remains highlighted.
I am running stock 3.2 Android on the tab but I think the problem's there since 3.1, maybe even before that, I don't think I have noticed it right away and that's the problem, I don't know what really caused this. Maybe it was an Android update, maybe an app update, a virus or a wrong setting.
Thing is it doesn't seem to be a problem with the screen because it's working just fine anywhere else, like games that require multiple touch. Could corrupt keyboard files be a probable cause? Can they be replaced?
I would be really, really grateful if you could give me any advice on this little annoying problem of my tab.
Thanks,
GriGGer
Are you 100% sure that when you long pressed that it would repeat the character (also am I understanding what you wrote correctly?)?
So far every keyboard that I have tried between both my phone and tablet will either do nothing or it will give you some alternate characters like the long pressing the 'e' will give me a '3'.
Do you remember using a different keyboard at some point?
I think your confusing your A500 with another device???
I just tried every keyboard I have installed on my tablet(stock Android, Thumb keyboard, XT9 keyboard, and Swiftkey) and none of them will type multiple letters with a long press on the key. I don't think I've ever seen a keyboard that would do that. Most of them will give a choice of alternate letters/symbols/etc. when you long press.
It seems I have realised what the problem actually was. I didn't think it had any connection with Accesibilty, as the touch and hold delay setting was set to short, but it seems that if I disable Accesibilty completely the problem goes away. Now the alternate characters work as intended. Problem solved!
