Ubuntu on SGT2 (31xx) - Galaxy Tab 2 General

Hi,
Not been around for a while but with the new Ubuntu OS Phones recently being show cased for development, I've been looking into running an Ubuntu distro on my tab via chroot/virtual box.
Has anyone here messed about with it and got it working ? These tabs seem a little under powered for the job IMO. Just curious to see if anyone has dabbled with it and any views they have on the subject.I do know where the official thread is , just seeing if any 31xx users have tried it out.
Thanks.

This is yet another reason I need a galaxy nexus. Thanks for sharing.

Looks like Ubuntu OS for Android is going to be on the Nexus before its even out to OEM's as a proper phone, You just know some of that stuff will be ported over to Android
I'm going to try and get the "desktop" distro working and if I cant I prolly sell this tab and get the Nexus as it seems to be getting all the goodness. SGT2 7 is a good lil tablet but it will be a legacy device sooner rather than later.

I put my tab on Craigslist tonight looking to trade for a nexus 7. http://sanantonio.craigslist.org/ele/3520721877.html
I have to sell mine first or trade it. I can buy a n7 at Walmart here for 199.
Sorry for being off topic.

So ones u get your galaxy nexus what well u use your nexus s for

Keep it for a strictly gaming device testing device rooting device
What will u use your nexus s for when u upgrade
Better check your thread title again. Not very suggestive .
I'll probably hand it to over to my wife, or sell it. I'll see when I get to it.
I'd probably install a remedial spelling and grammar instructional tool on the Nexus S.
Why would you even keep it? I'll sell it. The wife has a GSII so she wouldn't want it.

hahahaha...nice
Here is a better title:
"Got a Galaxy Nexus? What to do with old Nexus S?"
Or, if you wanted to fix your original:
"Once you get your galaxy nexus, what will you use your nexus s for?"
Not that hard...
Deciding what to do with your old phone is the least of your problems.

So I'm not the only one who thought of this. I have my old Nexus One in a cabinet and intentionally gave it a bad rom flash so it just replays the nexus boot animation forever. It's quite awesome to me and the S will join it when I get my galaxy nexus.

Long live the NX! This baby will never leave me it is too amazing to toss the Galaxy Nexus got nothing on it!
My opinion is greatly influenced by the fact that I cannot afford the Galaxy Nexus after just buying the Nexus S and denial. (I would totally ditch the NX for GN and keep the Nexus as a trophy on my wall for the "memories" we share).

I got to play with a Galaxy Nexus for the first time a few days ago, and I have to say I think I prefer to keep my Nexus S. I don't really need dual-core power, and although the phone isn't strictly speaking too big for me, I found the form factor uncomfortable to hold. I'm also still not really sold on the software buttons; they have potential but they just seem clumsy at the moment.
Granted, the screen is gorgeous, I like the notification LED, and there are times I feel tempted to switch for the extra RAM alone, but all things considered I honestly believe the NS is a superior everyday device. In any case, for the price tag the GN would really have to wow me, and it just didn't.
If I were buying a new phone today and had the GN and NS side by side, I'd be torn. Since I already have the NS though, I just don't feel compelled to switch. Maybe once the price comes down a bit, the software goes through a couple upgrades and they release a nice big extended battery to fatten it up a bit in the palm.
I'll probably give my Nexus S to my cousin, who's rocking a blackberry at the moment.

Will hand it to my cousin bro. I am not one bit emotional with material stuff.
I sell it to my younger brother or keep it as a backup.
EDIT: I'm not gonna get the GNex, but I'll wait for the next Google phone. It probably has quad-core CPU or something. I just don't have enough money for it.
Please enter a valid message
Either give it to my mom if she wants it, keep it or sell it back to best buy buy back program & get the galaxy nexus even cheaper!!

Galaxy Tab7" 2 - (Update - bought one)

I've been checking out the development for ROMs for the Samsung galaxy tab two recently, looks like there's a lot of work going on over there.
Has anyone here messed with one in person? Or is or anyone here that is gotten rid of their OG galaxy tab to go with the new one? If so what are your opinions and thoughts?
I'm thinking about picking one up at Costco to screw around with it to replace my current one, but I'm not seeing Sbradymobiles mods, and that makes me a sad panda. Lol
I'm needing large icons for my usage in my car, and Sbradymobiles mods make the og tab work pretty good a an in dash device.

Don't waste your money. Get a Nexus 7 instead as the specs are way better. Unless your one of those "sdcard slot or its ****" people. If so, by all means waste your money.
I had this exact dilemma until I/O. Decision made.
Also updates.

Unfortunately the nexus 7 really isn't an option right now. This is an in dash setup in my car.
On my current setup I've got over 18 gigs of music, podcasts, and video.
If a verified method to use external storage and charge at the same time comes around for it, I would probably go with it.

Is the nexus 7 also a phone like the Galaxy Tab original?
Nope.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
I picked one up yesterday at Costco, 90 day return window so I should have plenty of time to see if it meets my needs.
I'll be running the og tab still, but with development falling off so much, and the numerous bugs I've reported (at 240 dpi), I figured I'd give this one a chance.
I ain't leaving!

I'm sure they probably will when they see it. It's a common mistake really. Sorry I couldn't be of help. I'm actually holding out till to see what the 1st of the year holds for us in the land of Android.
There are roms that are available for both the ns and the gnex...
I am using black bean which is inverted and similar to aokp!
Slim Rom is also pretty good if she likes stock-ish roms!

Development is still a little slow but it is definitely picking up(still early) As far as hardware I couldn't be happier. It is my first tablet but by far the best bang for your buck. It will be a while before it is obsolete. Would recommend it for sure.

I am happy but the screen touch issue is ****ed
Returned mine after 2 days as I didn't have a need for one. But I still run Android on my PC to try the latest apps and games.

Best tablet I've ever owned. The screen is amazing and the fluidness is perfect. I can't help but think that all the issues I had with the first have been fixed on the second. As long as u don't get a defective one I can't see how you could go wrong or be unhappy with this purchase.

I was using a free iPad 3rd Gen table for surfing and was extremely unhappy with it, especially since I could not find a decent browser that would work given the iOS operating system. I am happy with my purchase of the N7 and would recommend it for any one who owns an Android phone who is looking for a tablet,

The hardware is amazing.
It's way underpriced and I love it :victory:
Spent the whole day playing with it today after buying it from a local Gamestop. It's great. Enjoying it much more than the previous Nexus 7. The screen is beautiful and the dual speakers are a breath of fresh air compared to the tinny sound of the mono speaker we had previously.

Ordered a Nexus 4

Ordered a Nexus 4 today for the purpose to be used with Ubuntu Touch. Will be fun trying it out.

You can pick one up used and probably new at Amazon.com
It works fine with t-mobile in the US. It doesn't use the fastest LTE, but you'll get 6mbps/1mbps.

You people in US are pretty lucky in this matter. Here in India, Nexus 4 is either not available or it is at same price as that of Nexus 5
I just picked up a nexus 4 for £50 and I flashed Ubuntu touch onto it yesterday.
Seems like the no brainer device for Ubuntu touch given its 2ND hand price.
If I had shelled out £150 for the Aquaris I would have been miffed.
