[Q] Best solution to remove bottom bar? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am totally new to all of this so what I need is the simplest and safest way to remove the bottom bar? I know I need to root the device so I am looking for the simplest way. Also I am looking for a gesture app that when I swipe from the bottom of the screen up it brings up the bottom bar. What I don't want is any upward swipe to bring up the bottom. If anyone has used BB tablet that is exactly what I am looking for.

This has been covered before.
Use LMT.apk for gestures or pie. Use fullscreentoggle.apk to remove the navbar.

Rooted my device and installed full screen toggle but it isn't working. I just also installed button savior and that app won't remove the navbar either. I any clues as to what is going on?

This is what I used, follow the link and instructions. You will need a root explorer to get to build.prop. however THIS IS NOT PERMANET. if you decide you want the navbar back just go back in the build.prop and delete the line that you have added.
And i dont know why the fullscreen.apk didnt work.
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE LMT GESTURES OR PIE SET UP BEFOREHAND BECAUSE YOU WILL NO LONGER HAVE A NAVBAR (if you use this mod that is)
Edit: SORRY here's the link lmao http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1985592

Anyway to hide the black home bar?

I was just curious if there is anyway to hide the black home/back bar at the bottom of the screen? Is there any kind of option to hide it until you tap at the bottom and make it appear? Thanks.

Not with the stock ROM. Some custom roms have this type of feature available though (usually it's a toggle in the Power menu).

You can easily hide it on a stock rom with a build.prop edit. Just add qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 to your build.prop and reboot. Then you have no more navigation bar. You'll need to use something like LMT launcher (here at xda) or Button Savior (in play store) to have the home, recent, back, etc functions (easiest to set up BEFORE rebooting after editing build.prop ).

You can do this, but it's not exactly what the op was looking for. He wants to be able to hide and show the bar at will.
You can use GMD Hidebar or GMD GestureControl to hide the navbar.

I tried this and it hid the top bar as well. I just want the bottom buttons gone, since I use Button Savior.

Hide navigation bar?

Is there a launcher that can hide the navigation bar on the home screen?
S' mobitela
No. Why do you only want to hide it while on the home screen?
Edit: If you just want to hide it period, you can use this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1243352&d=1344188251

You need a custom rom like PA in order to do that.
Or use lmt so which is pie, so you can now hide the navigation bar buttons in expanded mode.

You can also use gmd gesture control if you want to stay on stock but quickly hide/unhide navbar using gesture, even on custom roms its faster than having to hold power button and clicking expanded desktop

This is a great way to permanantly hide navbar but keep notification bar on stock but there is 2 problems i encountered with this method, 1st prob was the 3 dots would dissapear from chrome etc and on 4.2.2 i encoutered a flicker problem quite often but it sounds like the OP wanted to just hide the bar on home screen which im not sure why lol but if thats what he wants his best bet would be gmd gesture control or custom rom with expanded desktop mode

Agreed gmd gesture looks pretty cool.

All other app hide navigation bar and notification bar. I'm developing new root app that will allow to hide just navigation bar and replace it with auto hide status bar replacement :fingers-crossed:. No system files modification and no reboot required, but root is still needed.
Try it here and let me know what you think.

Any way to have a button on the keyboard that makes the navbar appear?

I like immersive mode and find it much easier to type when in it but the problem is swiping up to make the navbar appear often inputs text that persists when I reopen whichever app I'm in.
Just wondering if there's a way to have a button on the keyboard that either functions as a navbar within the keyboard, toggles the appearance of the status bar/navbar akin to a swipe down or up from the screen edge or simply minimises the keyboard.
Not very interested in using 3rd party keyboards. I like the look and feel of stock/AOSP keyboard so would prefer to keep it for the moment.
Thanks.
When does the keyboard go into full screen mode? I've never seen this happen and always retain nav button functionality. Couldn't you just slide from the top as usual?

I have tasker enable immersive mode for me in some apps. The top of the screen is always so far away. Something at the bottom would be nice.
Maybe do expanded desktop through the power button and back to normal after using the keyboard

You need to download Secure Settings. The toggle you need is 'Expand Desktop'. It's easy to just list a load of apps that will toggle this.
Lastly you need to add an exit task to disable immersive mode.

Guide: Getting rid of the navigation bar with out compromising usabilty!

Hey guys, I've found a awsome way to use the s8 without navbar at all! You will have swipe gesture from the bottom of the screen in the same order like there's a navbar with recent, home and back button.
all you need is to install a app called swipe navigation from the play store and give it accessibilty permission install the navbar Disabler (I I'll give the link) and the swipe navigation unlocker on the play store(costs money but definatly worth it).
config the app as you like then just restart your phone.
heres a video for demonstration.

And don't forget to hit the THANKS button!:good:

Yep, works on rooted and unrooted devices
Im using it. Is it me or response time is slower than pressing nav buttons?
If i want to get the navbar back i just delete the app or what?
You can use LMT Launcher as well. I've been using it for years and it always works great. Swipe up from the bottom and you have your buttons. You can customize it however you want to. Here's a screenshot of how I have mine set up.

Yes, you uninstall the app and it goes back to normal
Swipe left or right?
Can you get rid of the annoying vibration?
I have been using this for months. I love it
@Goku1992 Yes, you can simply switch it off in the app settings.

Cards Recent menu gone?

I have navigation gestures enabled. When I slide up from the bottom of the screen my Recents menu has the vertical card design, before it had the horizontal one. Any ideas how to get the other one back?
Change phone `?

It was the horizontal card menu yesterday and it switched for some reason. Just trying to figure out why it switched. I'm on elementalx rooted and unlocked.

Did you disable OnePlus launcher?
The card is baked into the launcher
Ah thanks I installed the launcher and it is back
So I got it back but the nifty gesture to quickly switch between apps is gone (swiping up and to the right to scroll between recent apps). Any ideas to get this functionality back?
