[Q] Mediaserver process high cpu usage while playing HD youtube videos - Acer Iconia A500

Hello everyone
My Acer iconia a500 has the stock ics and when I play HD YouTube videos the process Media server makes a very high CPU usage (more than 60%) and because of that the playback of the video becomes choppy.
I know that this media server process can't be deleted or disabled but I would like to know if there is a fix for this issue.
Thanks in advance
Best regards

Why some video playback on a500 with low volume?

I'm very happy to have an Iconia Tab A500, it's really powerful and the price is much cheaper, i often use the a500 to play movies, most of them can be played well. but some video is clear while the volume is very low, I tried to adjust the volume control, but the effect isn't very good, any suggestions?
Hi Elisabeth, do you have an example of a video with low volume? Maybe the audio stream insidesimply isn't any louder. I would like to investigate one.

What type of video files are having the issue? Streaming videos? Converted .mp4's? Usually this issue is due to the video source not your tablet.
I am having the same issue...I can play movies in the following formats:
divx/xvid
.avi
.mpg
.mp4
If the movies are on the internal memory or on the microSD card the movies play fine (except bluray sourced xvids). If I play some movies from a network share (not streaming them, but playing them over the network) then I get low volume and sound sync issues.
I find that movies that were converted from a bluray source have the volume and sound syncing issues....I am sure it has to do with the tablet (how it reads from ntfs and codec for xvid). All movies that have issues on the A500 run smooth as silk on a regular computer. I am hoping the new update will fix these issues.
which player do you have? are you sure the sound of your player have been adjusted to be the best state?
I have also seen this happen on mine playing various avi files with moboplayer and rockplayer. I feel like it has happened after I've played music with the android player but can't always duplicate it.

I use the built-in player of a500, playback is pretty good, and I've adjust the volume, other videos can be played well, no volume problems. i'm quite agree with a2drew, this issue is due to the video source, but how to solve it?
by the way, these fault videos were downloaded from website.
Ah, some video conversion tools can solve this problem, with their built-in editing tool, u can adjust volume easily. But I did not find a free one, any guy know one can share with us.

Click to collapse
I suggest you can try Foxreal video coverter, which i always use. Its trail version is free, and i buy it because it convert my mkv to my Xoom successfully. It has powerful editing functions, including adjust audio volume, and the sound quality of converted video is great. It is pity that i did't know as long as to be its fans on facebook, we can get 20% discount.

Choppy video partially solved

So YouTube drops frames like no tomorrow. This is on stock and the 10 different modded roms and kernels I've tested on. If the "show cpu usage" option is ticked in developer options then video playback is smooth and without dropped frames.
I was doing some investigating regarding choppy video playback in many media players including stock media player, mxplayer and YouTube. If I enable "show cpu usage" in developer options video playback is smooth and cpu usage appears to be typical. When left unchecked video stays choppy. This is a huge flaw with this tablet. Sometimes video playback is smooth on its own, but that is rare. Try watching the first minute of a cg video called "Ruin" on YouTube app to test. Skip to the first minute to see lots of hitching and stuttering.
Was wondering if there were any devs that could help me troubleshoot this problem further. Google doesn't seem to be aware of the terrible frame dropping during video playback on their own apps running on their flagship device. How did this pass Q&A?

video app for high frame rates?

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone knows of an android video player app that can handle video's shot at higher than normal frame rates? I just got a gopro, but all the video's filmed above 30fps struggle to play back. I usually use 1440p 48fps, as this gives nice smooth playback and the biggest field of view when i'm skiing. i understand that stuff like this is better off being edited on a pc to get any sort of decent results.....but i'd just like to be able to have a little look at the vids straight from the memory card before i get home too.
so far i've tried vlc, which just becomes a garbled mess, the stock video app which detects it as a sound only file, and mx player which plays back the video in slow motion and plays back the sound in sections (i.e. it will play sound at correct speed, but keep stopping while it waits for the video to sync up). so mx is the best so far, but is there an payer that can actually understand the higher frame rate and play it back at that rate too?
Try the latest vlc nightly. Go into settings and try it with and without hardware acceleration

Have you tried Dice Player?

thanks for the suggestions guys. unfortunately i still have no luck with these players, no matter what settings i used. think i'll have to get used to doing lots of editing first ha ha.

[Q] Problem when playing videos

Hi guys,
I have currently the omniROM4.4.4 v23.1 final provided by Thor from Tegraowners forum, and everytime I try to play a video ( youtube app and any other app related to video playback ) it lags so much and it's impossible to watch a video. The sound sometimes it's reproduced flawlessy sometimes has lags, maybe it depends on which video I try to load. This happen also with any other Rom I tried. Any advice please?
