Force Full Screen will allow you to force any application to run in full screen even if it was not originally programmed to run in that manner. On phones it will hide the top pull down Action Bar. On tablets it will hide the bottom System Bar that has the back, home and app soft-buttons.
- Root required
- BusyBox required
The application simply executes a kill command every second to kill a process called com.android.systemui --- The actual shell script is available on XDA-Developers.com (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2063068) so that folks that like using Script Manager can use this as well. Work even better when using the Widget add-in for Script Manager.
Inspiration came from a game that did not run in full screen and my son kept exiting the game by hitting the home soft-button on the tablet.
Enjoy and please do NOT re-post or re-distribute because things get outdated quickly and the app is free for heaven's sake.
Thanks!
JZ.

This is great, but the script does not work. How can I use it? I get errors through script manager or busybox - unexpected "done".
I want to be able to toggle fullscreen through tasker.
Thanks

Not sure what the deal is, I've been using the script for a long time with ScriptManager. I also used the script successfully via Terminal Emulator --- I did have to change permissions with chmod though.
chmod 777 myscript.sh
Thanks!

It's OK, I fixed it.
It was because it adopted windows new line characteristics when I opened it on windows first. When I did it directly through my phone it worked fine.

Nice find! That drove me insane in the beginning when I was developing the script --- but now we have a documented solution so thanks for the feedback!

The app worked but after disabling my wallpaper returned to default.

My "app" is not really an app, it's more like a hack. Whenever you reload the launcher, which you did by changing background, you have to re-run my app so that's the explanation behind what happened in your case.
Thanks!
JZ

Does this disable the functionality of the notification shade? what i'd like to do is have the bar hidden, but the ability to open the shade from another app.

Remember this is a hack hence the black wallpaper and the every second appearance/disappearance.
Are you using the script or the APK?
If you are using the APK then I suggest trying an app called "full!screen" it's pretty slick.
Thanks!

Auto rotation

Does Nexus 7 have auto rotation or not? When I turn it from vertical to horizontal, the screen does not change at all.

Yes it has auto rotate but it may not work for a couple of reasons:
It will not work on the "homepage" as for some reason, it is still not available to landscape your homepage.
If your in apps, like the broswer etc, then yes it should auto-rotate, but my Nexus 7 also had this turned off by default.
Goto your settings -> display -> auto rotate. (Im 90% sure its under display )
Make sure the box is ticked
Hope I helped

If you're wondering how to enable rotation on the launcher (homepage), you can do it a number of ways. If you don't want to root, you can install an app like ultimate rotation control from the play store. You can also install an alternate launcher like Apex or Nova.
If you want to root, you can flash a ROM that has tablet mode such as Paranoid Android. You can also edit the build.prop file but I wouldn't recommend the latter as it seems to have negative repercussions in system apps.

Easiest way, when you pull the notification bar down, you will see 2 Icons right at the top of the notification bar.
One will be three lines, with dots on them, which looks like the icon of the "Settings" app.
Next to that, you will see something with two arrows, and in the middle either like a screen of a device, or a padlock.
That is what you want to click, if the padlock is there, then rotation is locked, if you have the device screen, with the two arrows, auto rotate is enabled.
Hope this helps.
If you want more help download the application nova launcher.
Once you have nova, open it up and go to "look and fell". Once In there go Into screen orientation and click on auto-rotate.
When you finish do the command above, and it all should work

add this to the end of your build.prop file and reboot, then youll be able to autorotate your homescreen. no, adding this to your build.prop file will not hurt your device or cause issues as others here have stated..

Works great! Thank you!
The auto rotate is turned off when you have stock jelly bean. But if you pull down the menu you can change it there.
Apex Launcher does it too.
The cheapest way ist modifying the build.prop
An nice app but it cost is
look for "Ultimate Rotation Control" in app store
goes like hell
Don't use the rotation control app, at least not in auto or forced auto. It kills performance.

What is build.prop file and where is it to find for the modification?
RE
The Rotation Control app worked great on my Nexus 7.
I can't say the same for my GS3;
it kept resetting itself to "Forced Auto".
The build.prop method is easy, and works mostly well.
My only problem seems that the Play Store app always crashes when the screen rotates in the app drawer. I'm not sure yet if it happens anywhere else, but so far everything else is good.
The build.prop file is in the "/system/" folder, and you'll need root access to get to it.
Once rooted, get ES File Explorer from the app store.
You'll need to enable "Root Explorer", "Up to Root" and "Mount File System" in the app's "Root Settings" to reach and edit the build.prop.
Once you find the build.prop file in the /system/ folder, you can press it and choose to open it with ES Note Editor.
!!!!! WARNING !!!!!
Before you start messing with the build.prop file,
you'd be smart to make a nandroid backup in CWM.
The slightest typo or mistake can cause your device to not boot up.
You've been warned...!
!!!!! END WARNING !!!!!
But, assuming you add the line accurately to the bottom of your build.prop, you'll be ok.

also, in case you mess something up in you build.prop file, any kind of edit, not just this, you can just reflash your current ROM(no wiping of anything) without anykind of data loss or repercussions. well, OK, one repercussion, a loss of about 3-4 minutes

Hiding Nav soft keys without an application ?

Does anyone know how could I use a build prop edit to safely hide the bottom navigation bar without using unnecessary RAM? I use LMT so it isn't necessary.
I believe its in the build . prop file because when I replaced it to do a status bar mod, the bar disappeared momentarily when the file was missing.
However, I'm new to Android and I don't want to put myself into a boot loop or worse by blindly deleting things. I don't even know how to use a recovery yet. So does anyone know where this is? Thanks
LG G2
I just use an app. Auto hide soft keys. It's in the play store. Also use LMT myself. Let me ask you something, what setting do you set gesture input to?

Softbricked my phone and had to restore to stock then re-root etc :crying:
what is LMT?
This is LMT, or one of its functions. Its a really customizable navigation bar that replaces the stock one, along with any of other gesture control you could think of. Its great, you should try it out
LG G2
It swipes in from the bottom, top or sides. You can hold the gesture and lift your finger on the button or just swipe through in the direction you want and the function will activate. It gets much more complex than my setup but I'm just keeping it simple for now

The best app to hide soft keys is UDN (ultimate dynamic navbar),it can hide your keys without the need to modify them in build prop....And replace them with its soft keys that are not only customisable but you can also make them as tiny as you want in order not ot occupy as much space...

Did you guys lose menu buttons on some apps after installing these? My menu buttons for Voice and Trillian for instance have vanished and the menu button for the bar doesn't work on most apps for me.
Edit: Never mind, my issue was related to a busybox installation that was fixed by installing with a different installer. Oops.
Thanks for the info on this, it's very useful and stock is kinda lackluster.

I used the one from Faznx92's root tutorials, but I never had a busybox problem...
Something weird is going on, I got the menu problem again after rebooting I guess. Every time I uninstall busybox I get them back. I'll try the method OP used.
Edit: I keep getting the same problem. Each time I enable the auto hide soft keys app, I lose menu buttons in apps. Thr trick I found is to launch them all after booting then enable the auto hide. Just need to do that every time you reboot.
I would still love to be able to fix it for good

I am not sure what you are looking for exactly, but the list of apps on the original launcher is always reorganized to show the most recently used apps first. Or are you using a different launcher?
Sent from my SM-N900V using XDA Free mobile app
The best way of doing this is with LMT Launcher using it's Pie feature. Install it, and set up an item as Activity -> System UI -> com.android.systemui.recent.RecentsActivity. This gives you the recent apps, which is normally non-accessible on the shield. You can then add a few others as you see fit. I've added the power menu for example, which gives you the full power off, reboot and sleep options. Not found that anywhere else. All works best with a mouse, so you're best using an alternative launcher like HALauncher. But I suspect most people are doing that anyway given how restricted and awful Leanback is.
It can be downloaded here.

Most, task changer will be available at later date (I guess when they release the version for S10, right now it's not supported). The multiwindow extension (multistar) is bringing back:
1) swipe from corner to pop-out
2) the menu between two split screened apps
3) two apps running at the same time, that way your game won't be paused when you open browser/viber/something from the gametools menu
Hope they bring back easier way to fast split screen tho as right now if I wan't to split screen the current app (in my use case mostly youtube) it will pause the video + when you call recents it always auto move to the previous app, so I need to swipe, then press the icon, then split screen, then the other app I want, then resume video... too much time needed vs the previous "hold, select app - done, no video pausing, no waiting, no nothing". Maybe when recent task changes is released we will get something... we will see. For now we got atleast some of the functionality back.
Task Changer was available for me, but Routines gives me an error saying "Product is not available in this store." (I'm in Canada).

Routines is not showing at all in Good Lock. I even side loaded it and it will not show up.
Task changer/routines is also available now. If side loaded, the "good lock" app will give network error and will not work. You should create a shortcut for every plugin via "activity manager, shortcut maker app of some kind". Then open them directly. For the task changer, if you change it to one of the alternatives - it will let you hold a card to split screen or pop-out + when you open recents it will NOT pause your activity like playing youtube or playing a game, that way you can pop-out something without pausing anything or split screen with youtube while it's playing - really a nice one.

For people with region not supported, the vpn trick still fully work. First, uninstall if you are sideloaded the app. Next, eject your sim n reboot. Connect to wifi and use vpn to US like tunnelbear. Go to app info of galaxy store and clear data. Open the galaxy store and update/install latest good lock. Open good lock and update all the apps. Then you can reinsert sim card and turn off vpn while setting up the apps
"App is no longer available" is all I get...
