[Q] Alright, what's wrong with my new battery? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

FYI, I've just done a factory reset + restore from my google account, so we'll see if anything changes but I doubt it!
My battery has just been running down like nothing. It went down to 0% and turned off so I plugged it in. Got to 75% when it was time to go out to dinner with friends and by the end of it - with barely using it - it was down to about 40%.
So I charged it back up to 100% and by the time I got to bed it was back down to 45% or so. 7 hours later, I wake up to my alarm but also on-screen alert about power. It had dropped to 1%!

What on earth is going on? This phone is literally unusable as the battery just drains like no other...

Had the same problem I sent mine back, for a replacement.

You probably have a rogue app destroying battery by using up background processes.. If anything you should download better battery stats from XDA and try and diagnose the problem before doing an RMA for bad battery..

One other thing I have noticed is that the signal indicator seems to fairly regularly switch between 3G and H... both at work and at home I notice it. Could the switching of signal also cause battery? Why would it switch so frequently? Am in downtown Toronto with Rogers...

But.. why would this be? Downtown Toronto, and on Rogers... signal should be great most of the time?

The signal going from 3G to H is a normal occurrence. It sits on 3G when data is not being transferred, and when data is actively transferring it switches to H. It saves battery and does not mean the phone is constantly looking for signal.

Are you running a custom ROM and theme? Some will just say H and H+ and not 3G and H. Also, it could have to do with fast dormancy which T-Mobile US uses.

Well like I said it depends on ROM and theme and I don't believe Germany uses fast dormancy which could be the reason as well.

In the UK its the same on. Orange, 02, Vodafone & 3. Will sit on 3g until data is used. Then jumps up to H when data is sent or received. This behaviour is normal

After all this time of having a screwed up Wifi I realize it was the router. Once I got a new router I'm sitting on 19 hours with 39% left. I know some people have better battery life than that but I'm impressed. Btw im running myn's warm 2.2 with kings#11 kernal. It's awesome and fast

That's about right for battery life then. I don't think you can do much better.
im convinced the only thing that kernels/roms can help mitigate is usage burn, radio burn (no signal) is going to drain a battery no matter what. I keep my phone on wifi at my house and get great battery life. At work, when the phone is on 3G and not getting any signal the battery dies wicked fast. between 730 and 1030 today my battery dropped from 85% to 25%. Ive also had my battery die in 3 hours flat because of no signal.
yea, I forget where i read it, (i think when i used to go to ppcgeeks forums) but there was actually a lengthy detailed rundown of real world usage of 3G vs wifi, and wifi definately draws less power.

I took this from my first post on battery life. I wish it could be better cause I realize I barely used the phone during the 22hrs. Half of it was sleep and only ten minutes in a call and some YouTube videos. Also some music with PowerAMP.

After experimenting I have found out that instead of putting it in airplane mode you could just turn off 3g and it last quite a bit(at work). I only turn it on during break time. Leaving 3g makes me be lucky to leave work in double digit battery power.

I second this. Pretty much don't use 3G, and sure as heck not 4G, if you don't have to. My battery will literally stand for hours at a certain percent with 3G off and screen off. I don't have a WiFi router yet but seriously thinking about getting one just for use when I'm at home.
You should do it! Lol it is good for many things not just the EVO. Ya know laptops iPod touches and stuff lol.

T mobile G2 Signal issue

Okay so I have a G2 running virtuous sense v1.02. Here's my issue. No matter what radio I choose, I have signal issues. Depending on how I hold my phone I either have FULL signal, or no bars with an X over them. Most of the time I can't send texts or make calls. I've missed quite a few calls with this issue to. Shoot I'm willing to open up open phone to mess with the antenna "lf I knew where it was located". I live in an area with GREAT coverage so there's no reason I should be dropping calls. Does anybody know how to fix this serious issue?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Edit: To clarify this isnt about the SIGNAL and getting good reception. I HAVE complete full signal... UNTIL i pick up my phone. Like right now its sitting on my desk and i have all 4 bars... But when i pick it up in my hand it either goes to 1 bar or an X. I need answers reffereing to a case, or cure. Somebody whos had this EXACT issue and has overcame it.

Yes, it is very sensitive.
Try wrapping electric tape around the metal band around the screen.
I am pretty disappointed with the antenna performance of the G2 myself.

Yep, I tried it and i get no signal! Anybody else have any ideas? Thanks!
Yea me and my brother were having the same issue. I had bad reception where I usto have good reception. We would lose signals during calls 75% of the time...was told it was the kernal then the radio, but it was neither so I gave up and went back to stock rom. I never had this problem before the latest update. Hopefully someone finds the reason for this.

I know people have said when they hold it a certain way (keyboard open)wifi drops, which I've noticed.. the wifi antennea is about to the right of the camera, so I know why.. some cases have a hole in it to not keep it blocked I believe.. so maybe your holdin right over the antennea...

I've noticed that if I hold the phone vertically in my right hand I get much better signal than when I hold it vertically in my left hand. This is especially prevalent in areas with weak signal, like my house. I'm on Wifi most of the time at home so it's not too big a deal. But I've also noticed that when I hold the phone horizontally with the keyboard out the Wifi signal goes down a bit.
I also experienced weak signals while stock and then even worse with CM7 stable loaded. Then a miracle happened when CM7.0.2 update happened. I now get great reception with data and wi-fi. CM7.0.2 rocks the G2!

that sucks ... everything is great about the ROM except for battery life (and I guess some of the other crap they still haven't fixed like the physical keyboard lag, grr). It's faster for me than most of the deodexed ROMs I've tried that took out all the Samsprint "bloat".

Odd, I left GPS and wifi on took a nap, five hours later and I'm still at 100%. Of course GPS is not working for me, so now I have to go through that whole rigamorale of getting it to work. Oh yeah I'm on the EF10 modem.
Huh, I had the phone running for 5 hours in a real poor signal area after I flashed EF02 and at the end of the night I was still at 70%. Today I'm going through the usual battery calibration stuff so I won't know for sure for another day or two, but initially it seems pretty good on my phone, (using EF02 modem).
Hm that's weird with 2 hours of usage screen on for a little more than an hour, wifi on the whole time and I still have 79%

One other thing I noticed is that when you have your phone plugged into the computer and not the wall it doesn't see it as being plugged in even though it's charging. At the moment I have it plugged into my laptop so it's obviously charging but my screen shows it being on battery for 38 min 52 sec

Or an uncalibrated battery meter. The first battery cycle after a flash can give you some wonky stats, I usually run a calibration and at least one more full charge/discharge before I can pass judgement on battery life.
I seem to be getting IMPOSSIBLY good battery life on this. I've had it off charger for 3 hours + and have been using it like crazy installing apps and configuring. I'm still at 75%.
I fully charged and ran battery calibration when I got up. Who knows, maybe it'll drop 50% in the next hour, but for now, this is stunning!
PS I'm also getting like 15% phone idle, so I don't know if that's accurate.
My battery life is pretty bad too

[Q] Charger got wet

Hello, My original LG wall adapter got wet, i wiped away all the water i could, and let it dry out for day.
After that I plugged my N4 into it, and my battery just jumped from 70% to 100% in a blink. I unplugged it imminently, and phone thought it was still charging for like 10 seconds, and then my battery percentage went back to 70%.
It's been a few days since this event. I'm worrying about whatever damage it might have caused.
Battery life isn't great. i get about 1.5 SOT when I hit 40%. standby time are as the used to be, but when using the phone the battery seems to drain more. (WIFI OFF WHEN NOT AT HOME ,ALL GOOGLE LOCATION SERVICES DISABLED, ON 3G 24/7)
Is there any real test to see if there is really any damage ?
I hope I'm just imagining. Maybe the charger didn't went bad at all? after all is it a known bug when nexus jumps to 100%.
The wet adapter charged my Other galaxy S2 just fine..
Here is some ridiculous screen.barely 10 minutes screen on an a short phone call and its already down 5%

5% down, in 1 hr and 15 minutes, with 10~ minutes of screen on time, and some phone calls is not really that bad imho.
You should probably get a new charger, seems like something is messed up within the charger, due to being exposed to water.
Is there any way to determine if the phone itself received damage ? I's there any chance at all ?
Only the plastic of the charger was exposed to water ..
anyway I'm using apple Iphone adapter since then.
I think the best way to tell if it received any damage is to just use it normally.
Charge it normally, through the iphone adapter for now, and see if the problem re-occurs.
I do notice battery drains quicker , My friend's nexus, which was from an older batch, drained 2% after 10 mins in google chrome, auto brightness.
mine drains 8% , same brightness, no application running in background. betterbatterystats shows nothing unusual.
Is this normal? Totally Moderate use.

WiFi eating battery on Note 3

Hey everyone,
My mom just got a new Note 3 (yay!), and I have been quite busy exploring all its features. One thing that is nagging me, however is that both the stock browser and chrome are using up a great deal of battery. Wifi is eating 1% Every 1-2 minutes and while using the browsers this is amplified to a percent every 30 secs!
Please help me.

Wifi has always been a battery vampire.
Do you have brightness set to 100%?
How far are you from the router? A bad signal uses more power.
Is anything syncing in the background?

At stand by, the Note 3 hardly uses 1-2% battery every 8 hours or so, but when it comes to calling (core function of the phone!) and wifi+browsers the battery suffers greatly. I haven't tested cellular data yet because of weak signals near my house. Should I let it drop to 0% and charge to 100% or get a new battery? Really disappointed with the battery.
As a general rule you should avoid full discharge/recharge cycles (except for things such as recalibration) as this in the long run shortens the batt's lifetime even more. So it's best to recharge it more often and keep it somewhere between 10-90%.

UPDATE
New update guys:
I left my phone with WiFi on for half an hour and it ate 3% battery from 50% to 47% which includes a phone call. And this time the phone was a bit further away from the router. So, I guess it's not the WiFi that's sucking the juice but the browsers.
Any fix for this?
I too had this same problem with my device i dont know what happened all of a sudden it got everthing allright now but it stuks alot with the ditalix lwp installed

Fixed
Hey,
Well the issue fixed itself. I now have WiFi running with Smart Screen, Air Gestures, Sync, Screen Rotating and using the web browser to do some surfing and battery hasn't dropped a percent since the last few minutes. It got fixed right after another (it's 3rd) charge and it's working now.
Guess I just needed to charge it a few times for it to work. If anyone else is having issues and have charged it only once or twice, try charging it again. Mine was at 47% when I charged.
Requesting a mod to lock this.
