[Q] How to tell if a Defy+ is BL7 ? - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have a new Defy+ and I would like to install cm10 on it.
I have tried to follow the All-in-One Defy Beginner's guide and I have started to read it from the start.
I got to the "Rooting" part which is divided by if I have "BL7" or not.
However, nowhere on this guide (and nowhere I looked) have I found what is exactly "BL7" or more importantly - how to tell if I have BL7 or not.
I would like to follow the guide exactly so I won't harm my device, but I can't tell if I should to the instruction for devices with BL7 or not.
Can someone please tell me how to find out if a Defy+ have BL7 or not ?

Give the firmware version in the settings app. DFP 231, 188 is bl7

Greatful for answers.
Since its almost the same hardware everything is compatible with the Defy+ cept the battery issue hasn't been resolved yet. It wont charge completely.

Problem is, that Defy+ cant be even rooted :-/ . But its pretty fresh, so lets give it some time. Stock FW is pretty good ... even freeRAM is pretty low.

People are already using Defy custom Roms such as CM7 on it. Rooting should not be a concern.

Yeah I have read this about 3times, but carstenx90 is pretty advanced user and he doesnt write, how he finally did it . I'm new with Android - I used to flash ROMs on WM .
Did you try SuperOneClick?
Try DoRoot method if that doesn't work.

Hi All, In a post on this thread Fisik says the Defy + can't be rooted. I beg to differ. I have Defy + and, though rooting with superoneclick failed, "Droid 3 Root" worked perfectly and quickly so my Defy + is now rooted running sim free unbranded UK stock firmware.

Yes, as written in SuperOneClick thread, most ppl got problem with new devices and SOC - always stucking on step 7 ... so that's why Im asking. Stock ROM is pretty fine, but I want 720p recording and if I can free some RAM, it would be nice.
but thanks anyway for every option
chuisana : thanks for info and guide .. I'll try tomorrow and give feedback

Maybe you can try superoneclick 2.3.3 @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682

No, it doesn't..! You can root it, I did it just yesterday, using SuperOneClickRoot. I've got a DEFY+, too.
But it does mean that once you flash a newer kernel, you can't go back to an older version. That has nothing to do with rooting, but it does with flashing.

[q] how to root defy+ 2.3.4?

Hi i want to root my motorola defy+ mb526 os 2.3.4
i would like to know the exact steps and guide to it?
I would also like to know about the features of rooting and the approach to gain those features.
Thanks in advance..
try reading this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216982 SuperOneClickRoot worked fine for me i have a defy+ with DEFYPLUS_U3_4.5.1-134_DFP-132

Can someone tell me - is this moto MB525 or MB526?

Hi all...
Maybe supid question...
I have bought on ebay black motorola defy+ as my 2nd phone.
In about was model MB526. So i have not tested all functions and i directly installed original sbf, then rooted sbf, then cwm recovery.
Then i enter in cwm recovery and install cm-7-20121008-unofficial-jordan_plus-signed.zip and gapps.
All was okay...but now classic defy camera problem - camera is green.
When i tried open camera it say Cannot connect to camera. Catlog say Could not open camera hw.
Under battery on sticker is MOTODEFY MVQ7-334411D11
SM2805AE7E1
L026NU6276
I can give imei too...
My question is...is this really defy+ ?
...and is possible to have defy+ with green camera?
THX
I dont think this is unheard of. Ask the seller for a refund

You can check on Motorola.com with IMEI
you have to register then go to my registered products and tipe IMEI
...okay...so this defy is really MB525.
Sh*t
...so i have MB525 with 526 firmware and there is no bootloader downgrade for camera works.
Right?
Sorry for reviving a thread from early December... but before I made my own thread about a similar issue I decided to hick-jack this one.
So someone gave me a Motorola Defy (MB525, MKQ7 334411B11 according to the sticker on the board) as a gift. It is a GREEN LENS, Motorola Defy from T-Mobile US.
Well they gave it to me 'semi bricked' after the person flashed it with a CM10 rom build made especially for the Defy+ (MB526).
According to my research the latest build for the Defy (MB525) is from September 24.
I have tried it but the phone keeps acting up.
Is there anything I can do to make the phone work again??
EDIT: Apparently, the phone was flashed with a JRDNEM_U3_3.4.2_177-005... sbf and it originally had android 2.1. Dunno how much that information helps...
Serach google for downgrading
I read about an Bl.7 Sbf which have an froyo kernel
So maybe there is a way to create green lens .sbf with bl.7
Look for threads from walter79
You can try Quarx 2ndboot rom, they should work on all Defy's

Can anyone else confirmed this?? I am trying to revive this Defy and if those work I know what I will flash it with later.
Edit: Quarx 2ndboot roms, use custom kernels that work on both. Confirmed.
It was flashed with
Code:
"JRDNEM_U3_3.4.2_177-005_VFBLUR_SIGN_SIGNED_USAJRDNEMARAB1B8VFAT03A.0R_PDS03C_USAJRDNFRYOVFAT_P015_A016_M001_HWp3_Service1FF.sbf"
because my friend was scared that the T-Mobile USA sbf that he found would be "too" up to date making it harder to downgrade later.
I read here that the T-Mobile provided sbf here are the original Eclair and the Eclair updated (which this phone originally had). So, is it safe to download them, flash the phone with them, and start from square one by myself?
Any answer would be appreciated.
Just read the "All-in-One Defy Beginner's guide" and flash with RSD to a froyo sbf...

Rooting Defy+.

Hey.
I want to root my Defy+, mainly to remove some bloatware apps and install root-required apps.
I've been trying SuperOneClick, gets stuck in #7, even after trying the solutions the developer suggested on a topic in this very forum.
Also tried OneClickRoot, the app said my phone is root-able but failed.
How can I successfully root my Defy+? I've been constanty banging my head against the wall trying to do so.
Thanks in advance.
Ron. :good:
First, tell me your Defy+ build number.
Settings> about phone> Build number
What matters is the number set "DFP-xxx".
Super one click or any other software won't work for rooting defy+
There are 4-5 threads for rooting defy+ which works perfectly....
Please use time in searching it rather than posting new threads with similar topics

DFP-231 build has new bootloader version called BL7, it's newer and any root program won't work on it.

One last thing, I dont want to flash a new version of android on my phone, I want to keep my Android version 2.3.6. Where can I downloaded a rooted rom for this version?
Those rooted roms I provide are also DFP-231, android 2.3.6 the same as your current stock rom. So no worries.
But it's baseband may differ from your region, read about and use Basebandswitcher to fix it after root.

Now my phone is all in English. I want to make it appear in Hebrew, or at least have Hebrew in typing languages. How can I add Hebrew? I dont have it in the exisiting languages list.
Nah instead of finding stock roms that contains Hebrew, I suggest using a custom rom that (likely) have one.

Since your Defy+ are rooted, install CWM from this guide and go try MS2Ginger! Hope they had it.
About keyboard, try looking for one with your language in Play Store.
