[Q] Epic 4g Reception

Reception on my Epic seems to be a quite a bit worse than my old Centro.
Sitting in the same exact spot my Centro gets -81db to -86db while the epic varies from -91db to -95db.
I'd think that the Epic would have much better signal since it is a premium phone and the Centro was a low-end device.
I'm using Syndicate 1.1.0 and Twilight 1.1.0.
Any ideas?
Older phones tend to have stronger signals, they didn't focus on things like getting the phone as thin as possible while cramming as much in there as they can so they generally have better antenna placements. A difference of 10db shouldn't be significant enough to cause any issues.

That's a bit disappointing. I tend to notice quite a bit 3g-less (or very slow) areas than I did with my old phone, have not really had any major issues with voice though.

Any issues with the LTE 10.1" Tab?

Hey,
Thinking of getting a 10.1" LTE tab, anyone have any issues or feedback for it so far? Would like to know before I go fork out the money for one, thanks!
-Steve
So far mine has been solid. Coming from a Xoom, there is a dramatic lift in speed although no idea what that's attributed to. The LTE speeds you read about are very real -- consistent 18-20mbps downstream in NYC with very low latency. VZW has done their LTE right for sure so far.
The screen is great although a bit oversaturated. Battery life great. Portability great. It's a tablet you'll enjoy carrying with you.
About the only downside right now is if you've been used to playing with custom ROMs, know that the LTE tab is different enough that you won't be able to use anything that's currently out there today. There's root and there's CWM, but you're on your own for now if you want to do deep customizations.
No regrets here.

I did the same thing (came from an 3g xoom) and I haven't looked back. I didn't really think that the weight would matter that much, but for me it does. It's so much lighter and when holding it for extended periods of time at certain angles it does make a difference.
And with netflix on my machine other than what ever apps, docs, music and movies I download I have plenty of room on my 32g. Plus I plan to invest in a wireless hd once I figure it all out.
NOTE: I didn't think ClockworkMod was working on the 4g yet, but correct if I'm wrong. Otherwise I am missing rom customization and wonder how much attention our devices will receive.

It's not a smooth process yet for sure. Until there's a few ROM customizations to play with, I'm going to leave things alone for a bit.
Yeah the weight of the Xoom 3G is embarrassing after you spend any amount of time with the Galaxy Tab 10.1.
OIC. Thanks. And yep, being rooted is a enough for me right now as well.
I just got them to swap out my Xoom for the 10.1 LTE. Only had it for an hour, but loving it. Screen is better than my Xoom and this thing makes the Xoom feel like my Mosin Nagant. (Which is big and heavy, if you didn't know.)
No regrets here, no problems whatsoever.

There is actually an option in TW under display settings where you can change your display profile. It may help with your saturation issue.

TW is not currently available for the Verizon LTE tab.

Official GS3 Signal Thread

We all know that samsung has a history of poor radio performance... So let us know. How is yours performing?
Compared to your old phone?
Coming from the OG epic, my signal is much improved. I can now peruse the internet in my office where before I couldn't even make a call.
go go gadget galaxy s3!
Incredible S was better, no doubt
So I used the HTC one X for about 2 months before switching it out for a galaxy S3 and Ive noticed that my reception has def gotten worse. I talk a lot when Im home and since getting the S3, my friends are always telling me im Breaking Up on the call.
Is there a fix to this?
Seems pretty bad. Always 2 bars.

New to HTC, curious about differences w/ Samsung

I got this phone mainly for the speakers and reports that it's faster than my previous s5, and indeed it is but it feels slower also, but just more slower than the s5 at it's fastest so more steady I guess. Is smoother I think. Maybe it manages its performance to be that way(?) Either way I'm liking it. The display seems softer but barely anything to complain about unless you're an eye candy person and come to think if it I shall miss the s5's nice in-your-face display. And I take it in the shower with me, carefully, since the speakers can handle the job, but I'll miss the s5's battery life(what do these companies do, purposely watch what the other is doing and out-do them in only half, not much more, not much less, of everything important in a phone?).
It's such that I couldn't really complain with ending up with either. Now to have the z2.... Aaah, the best of both worlds, kinda, less speakers but better than s5, but better waterproof ability and I think battery is on par with s5 no? Anyway, just sharing some thoughts, but originally I was curious about how it performs compared to the s5 having very similar specs. And how much faster does it get after rooting it, and 'tuning' it?

[Q] Redmi note 3G or 4G ?

Hi,
I wanted to buy Redme Note but I can not decide between 3G and 4G, I thought it is best to ask those who have experienced using this phone. For me supporting 4g is not very important, but I would like to have the best performance and battery life and I very much like my phone to be supported by developers . here are some questions I think is important:
1) which of these 2 (3g or 4g version) is better supported with custom roms or kernels? (considering one is mediatek and another is snapdragon)
2) is it true that this phone can not have a custom kernel because kernel sources are not being released ?
3) I saw antutu benchmarks for these 2 phones, MTK cpu should be higher than MSM one(which is normal considering the fact that one is 8core), but RAM score on the 3g was about 3K and on 4g 1.5K !!! is this a problem with first miui build or with 4g variant ?
4) won't the MTK variant, drain battery faster in daily use or gets hotter ?
5) considering all aspect which do you prefer ?
thank you in advance for helping me out

I know how you feel, Ive been debating the same question for the last few weeks, here is the basic skinny as I have understood things..
as far as performance most reviews seem to point to the fact that overall the 3g has better overall performance but the gap between them isnt that high as to make a noticeable difference.... for me the main question was support how long with miui support the 3g version now there is a g4??
when i was in the store i tried both devices and I just felt that all though the 4g is quicker for internet the3g just seems to feel somehow more powerfull than the 4g.. maybe the best choice for you would be to go to a store (if you can) and try both for yourself... one thing i can say is that which ever you get you will not be dissatisfied, Personally I will never be going back to samsung htc and so on ever again

Thanks for replying.
you are right, official support is important, but from what I've seen, miui 6 on this phone is not good yet (is it true?).
which one do you have? I would appreciate it if you can run antutu and maybe post picture of the detailed results, it would help me in confirming something.
V6
Ok so I am using v6 miui 5.4.24.. All I can say is that this runs almost flawlessly for me. I'm a bit of a flashaholic truth be told and in this first week I have flashed so many roms I've lost track. But in the end I came back to the multilanguage version of v6. It really makes the phone feel sweet.
Now for the last 2 days I've been thinking about what I said about support, unlike the big names xiaomi seems to really understand it's consumers. First off you don't lose warranty for flashing your phone, something I never understood in the first place, this means there is actually greater chance of longer running support because xiaomi and the users seem to really support each other in keeping the phone alive. I have never had a phone that has had such an easy time going between custom designed firmware and the original. In the end it's the user who will make the decision about which rom is best for them.
I did the annuity test and the results were very good considering what I paid for it... All though I do miss lte speeds of browsing on my HTC 610 it really is worth the trade off for everything else I have gained...
In the end I will reiterate my statement that it really won't matter the 3g or 4k you will be very happy either way

sry for late response.
I finally bought Xiaomi Redmi 2 with 16GB internal memory and 2GB RAM, and after using it for several month I think I made the right decision. It has great battery (1 to 2 days normal usage), it's cpu is snapdragon 410 which performs incredibly good, I've tried many demanding games, and I didn't have any lags. MIUI 7 is very satisfying and development for this phone is started, we have many LP roms. Overall I think it's better than redmi note 3g or 4g.
