Does anyone have experience of request replacement from Google?
I requested a replacement of my Nexus 10 this morning on the phone with Google and they said something like I have to purchase another device?
Can someone clarify that for me, plz?
Much appreciated.

Yes, I have done it. I ordered 32GB and they sent me16GB. They will send you a link to order a new device, just do it. Make sure you follow the instruction and send the old unit back to them.
I think what the OP was asking was if a deposit was needed. There is. It's the price of the device. Once they get the returned one, they credit whatever account you have set up in Wallet.
Actually, they only place a hold/temporary authorization on your card until you return the defective unit. If you fail to return the defective unit in the allotted time, they will then charge your credit card. I just went through the process last week due to a botched oleophobic coating on the display. The process was simple and painless.

Did you return your device back? I have been waiting a week to return my device back, after receiving a faulty replacement.

Yeah, I got the email and I sent my device back right away using the given label. Actually, the label doesn't cover the charge of same-day-pick-up from UPS so I still have to pay for that myself. Anyway, thank a lot.

Okay, so the power button has worn out on my NC and I called and had a replacement order made.
The customer service rep I got spoke a very "broken" english. I barely understood what he was telling me. I had to repeat almost every bit of info I gave him. He even misspelled my name on the RMA ticket, even after I gave my name to him 5 times.
Now here's the question. What do I do now? I have the RMA number/ticket, which they sent to me in email. Will they provide me with a package to put my nook in? and if so, what all do I put in it? sorry for all the questions, but any help is appreciated as calling them back will probably only complicate things. And half the time you try to get a response from the email service, you get an automated response telling you to call them. If I can just go up to a barnes and noble store and have them replace it that would be great.
Like I said any help is appreciated, Thanks.

All RMAs I have done in the past, I packed up the unit and shipped via UPS (for tracking). Some manufacturers supply shipping labels but it sounds as if you were not issued one. To avoid possible complications, I have always taken pictures of the packing process (with time/date stamps) to document that the unit was in good cosmetic shape to refute any claims of CID (Customer Induced Damage) or shipper misconduct. I attached a statement reflecting that to the RMA documents included in the box. Try always use original boxes and packing items packed in a separate shipping box. (UPS can do this for you for a nominal fee). Depending on the problems, sometimes any accessories (power supplies, USB cords, etc) can be left out as those sometimes get "lost". Always make sure you have flashed back to stock. If Support sees a rooted unit they can refuse to do anything as rooting voids most warranties.
Hope this helps!
Well said, skeeterpro.
To OP, if they don't hand you the box, meaning you have to pack it up yourself.
If they don't send you the shipping label, meaning you have to pay shipping fee (if they reimburse, great, if not, it's out of your pocket)
Some vendors require very specific RMA package must be sent through a certain carrier, if not indicated, I would go with USPS for cheaper price, do make sure getting the delivery confirmation (and/or) signature required.
Thank you so much for the replies, guys. I ended up taking it to the b&n and the Guy at the counter just gave me a brand new one. Problem solved!

Lucky you didn't get a refurb, I had 3 arrive DOA. I'm shipping them all back tomorrow (I'm sure the shipping will be $20-30). Still came out ahead at $120 each for 9. Still, that's a horrible failure rate for supposedly factory refurbished device.
Hey,
Is anyone be able to get replacement from playstore, if so is it pending or did you got the tracking number?
Since I got the device has a cracked close to the camera, I place a replacement yesterday and still didn't got my tracking number its showing as pending. When I place replacement order the CSR told me that they have enough device for replacement. Today I called them whats going on, and they are telling me that they don't have stock so its basically we are in backorder.
Can anyone clarify this.
Thanks
that sounds like you're SOL buddy... sorry
I don't know what the status is. My camera LED does not work, so I phoned in early Wednesday morning (5:30 a.m. EST) and arranged for a replacement. The email acknowledgment I got said "Less than one week" for "Estimated ship." I haven't heard anything further.

so no tracking number or anything, did you try to call them. cause we have only 15days for replacement
I requested a replacement on Tuesday, and it's still pending for me. I'm not complaining though, since I still have my Nexus 4. I don't really care if it takes 2 or 3 weeks for the replacement to get to me, as long as it's fulfilled, I'm a happy camper.
I requested a replacement Tuesday night because there is a small crack or hole in the backlight that looks like dead pixels but it's under the LCD and I got the same ships in less than a week but it's still pending in the play store

I know but I don't install all the apps I need, then start over again. It would be a hassle so was wondering if they send us ASAP.

My call on Wednesday requesting an RMA exchange was less than 24 hours after I received the phone, well within 15 days. Anyhow, this is a warranty issue, which means I have a year, not 15 days.
If I haven't heard anything by middle of next week, I'll follow up with them, given the "less than a week" timeframe they quoted.

Isn't the warranty through lg? Meaning you will have to send it to lg for repair or replacement? Going through Google during the 15 day period let's you replace it through Google.
Ifvit is before the 15 days why is it a warranty issue?
sent via xda premium with nexus 7
Beats me. All I know is it's a defective unit, I called up Google support, and they're sending me a replacement. If at some point in the future Google tells me I need to talk to LG about defects, I'll talk to LG.
at least with the nexus 7, the benefit of buying from Google Play rather than buying from a store was that the play orders would be managed by Google if there was any warranty issues, whereas the store orders were managed by ASUS themselves.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but when you place an order for a replacement unit, RMA, Google places a hold for the full price of the phone on your account, in this case 384 dollars. Until the defective phone is returned, correct?
If so, are you guys with RMAs going to have an extra 384 taken out until you received the replacement.
I have a defective unit, my earpiece does not work, but I don't have an extra 384 dollars to let Google borrow while they send me a replacement unit god knows when.
Also, are RMAs brand new in box? Or refurbished units?

I have an opportunity to buy a Nexus4 16gb locally on craigslist for $400 which is the same price as my Google order that won't come in for another 5 weeks. The seller appears to be legit after getting his name and googling his name. The phone is in the original box with the Google seal stickers on untouched. I asked if I could open and put my SIM card to make a test call but, he stated no since it would devalue the phone if I decided not to buy, which I understood. I asked for his receipt but, he said all I needed for warranty issues was the imei number on the phone.
Please point out anything else I need to be looking/asking for as I will be picking it up tomorrow at 7pm cst based on feedback from all the awesome members in this forum.

1. Great price, but I would be suspicious on his reasoning on selling it for $400, not much profit to gain (if at all).
2. Googling his name? What does this have to do with anything? Does he own a company or something? This part makes no sense to me.
3. Google seal stickers... very easy to reseal it with black tape.
4. There wouldn't be any devaluing if you were to test the device with a SIM card. This is bs IMO. The only devalue would be if it was truly sealed and then which I can believe him.
5. I'm not sure about the receipt and warranty but depending on when he bought it. Google Play gives you 12 days for a RMA with them before you take it to the manufacturer. I would take the receipt though, as he can easily just report the IMEI and then you get screwed in the end or something.

2. Googling his name? What does this have to do with anything? Does he own a company or something? This part makes no sense to me. He is a starter company advisor locally and well known locally.
3. Google seal stickers... very easy to reseal it with black tape. I will have to inspect case and stickers when I go to buy it. If looks suspicious, will pass.

. Will ask for receipt for your reason mentioned.
See my answers above. Thanks for your input.
You can make a deal like, Open it and I will test a call and if works I take it otherwise wont. So opening it and not taking it is not an option
Yeah if he won't let you test it **** it. You can't find the phone anywhere opening the box will hardly devalue it at all, if even. Also you should try and get the receipt because AFAIK you need more than just an IMEI for the warranty.

I would not even consider buying it if you cannot test the phone. The phone might not even be in there for all you know.
THANKS to everyone who responded to my inquiry. Got back a little while ago with the new Nexus4. It is Beauty and the Beast. Already put the case on it and now downloading my apps. The seller was on the up and up, was able to test by making a call, go over the entire phone specially the front and back glass.
Now I get to sit and play with the new toy this weekend. Got to cancel my Dec 8th order and help someone else get theirs quicker.

Congrats. Glad it all worked out and nothing suspicious happened. Happy to hear that the seller changed his mind and let you test it.
I would research the S/N from the box with Google to see if it is stolen. Also if you buy it be sure to get a receipt from the seller to show you bought it and how much you paid.
I bought one from kijjiji $550.00 BNIB 16 Gb Didn't even put a sim in. Broke the seal looked at it that's it.. But I also got a receipt First thing called google had the warranty changed into my name they checked the imei and it was legit :good:
I suggest you get a receipt it has his name on it..
BTW he ordered nov 27 got it on the 29 I bought it dec 16..
Only problem is that only the original buyer can return the device to Google for an exchange if a problem occurs. And they do keep track of who bought them so without the original receipt your only option for the warranty is through LG. What LG does is have you send the phone back to them for repairs which can take a couple weeks and in teh meantime you have no phone. This has been discussed a number of times in several threads already as a few unlucky craigslist buyers found out when they wanted to do an exchange for a defective device.

My launch-day Nexus 4 has the rattling and earpiece buzzing problem and I'm interested in getting a replacement to see if they have resolved the issues.
I'm curious as to what the replacement process entails for this phone? Do I go through Google Play or LG? Do I have to send it back first or do they send one first? Also, do they sent out refurbished models or new ones?

The process is that you call Google, they set up an RMA if they feel it's a hardware problem. You don't contact LG, EVER. The just of it is you phone google, they troubleshoot the problem. If they feel this is a defect, not as a result of carelessness.
(Basically I'm telling you, if you phone in, you can't say you've ever dropped it, and that it's had this problem since day one. I'd go as far to say that you "may have used your friends' Nexus and found that his doesn't do the same and sounds clearer on calls")
They will give you an RMA number, and email you a printable UPS label, at this point, you may send your phone back, using the free UPS label, back. At the same time they issue you this label, they put in a request that a brand new unit be shipped to you. If your phone is still functional, keep your phone, and wait for the new one to arrive, then ship yours out the day you get the new one. You have 30 days to return your old phone once the new one ships. If you fail to return the old phone, they charge the new one to your google account.

According to Google, you only have 15 days from the date of delivery to request a replacement or refund. Beyond 15 days, you have to contact LG.

Does anyone know where I can get a replacement back? Because of iFixit, I was aware of the ease of the back cracking when removing it, but in an effort to get wireless charging working (which I did), I took the back off and cleaned the connections. Being ever so careful, I still cracked it in the same spot as iFixit regardless.
Now, I know this is minor and doesn't affect the function of the device and I also know I can easily cover this up with a case, which I'll be doing it for a time. I just have this irrational feeling of damaging things I own, and for my own satisfaction I'd like to replace it.
That said, I know this device is new, but if anyone knows where I can get a replacement back, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Will do. I'm chatting with someone right now. They want to open an RMA, but I'm trying to see if they can just sell me the back. Although they'd have to determine that I cracked the back and I could probably get that done for free, I'd rather be honest and just buy and replace it myself. Last thing I want is to send it in and have them charge me $100 for them to do it.

"Me: what would the cost of a replacement back be?
ASUS Rep: I am sorry but I do not have quotes for repair for this unit as yeat. If the damage is deemed to be customer induced and if they are using the same quote as that of the first Nexus 7 units, it would cost approximately $88 to replace the casing of the unit. This price includes parts, labour and shipping."
So, about $20 for the part.
Might have to wait until broken ones get parted out on eBay...

You seem to be right and I'll just have to live with it for now (still waiting for my case). Here is the whole conversation; keep in mind that I only want them to honestly give them money and have them send me a back replacement:
"ASUS Rep: Based on the information that is provided, I can create an RMA for your product to get serviced, but there could be charges associated with it if the damage is determined customer induced at the repair facility.
Me: well, what would the cost of a replacement back be?
ASUS Rep: I am sorry but I do not have quotes for repair for this unit as yeat. If the damage is deemed to be customer induced and if they are using the same quote as that of the first Nexus 7 units, it would cost approximately $95 to replace the casing of the unit. This price includes parts, labour and shipping.
That should be $88.
My apologies for that.
Me: wow, that is a lot of money
is there the possibility of just replacing it myself?
honestly, i'd rather just pay for a back and not be without my device for something i can fix easily
ASUS Rep: I am sorry John. We advise against such an operation as you may void your warranty by removing the casing for the tablet.
Me: i appreciate the warning, but $88 for a simple fix (1/3 the cost of the device) is borderline exploitation
i've seen the iFixit teardown and know it is approximately a 5 minute job
i just honestly need a replacement back
ASUS Rep: I am not aware if this part would be available for download on our estore as we normally advise against opening tablets.
Me: download?
ASUS Rep: Available for purchase. My apologies.
Me: i know you advice against opening tablets, but you are the manufacturer in which i need to contact to repair a asus made device that i own
ASUS Rep: I would advise that you backup our data and have the unit sent in for servicing.
Me: you are essentially saying that i either potentially pay $88 for an easy fix, or my device does not get fixed
ASUS Rep: I am saying that due to the information provided. I would advised that you backup our data and have the unit sent in for servicing. If the damage is customer induced, you may be charged approximately $88 as per the cost for a regular Nexus 7. I do not have a specific quote available for repairs for this specific unit. When the unit is inspected and the damage is deemed to be customer induced, you will be contacted by email with the exact cost of repair. From there you can choose to accept charges or have the unit sent back unrepaired but you are responsible for shipping.
Me: how much is shipping if i refuse charges?
as a major manufacturer, you must have flat rates that you could provide for me
as you would have a contract with a shipping supplier
ASUS Rep: AT this time since the unit has been newly release, I do not have that information available to provide.
It would normally be $15-$30."
Give it time.
However, ASUS is the company that, when the plastic housing on my Nexus 7 2012 USB cable cracked, would replace it under warranty if I sent THE ENTIRE TABLET, POWER SUPPLY AND CABLE to them.
They were going to send a complete new sealed packaged N7 at their cost to replace a $4 cable.
