Thank you developers

I am creating a thread because I don't know how I else can show my gratitude.
But I just want to thank all the developers that give us these ROMs. Its amazing how much work and effort you put into development just for us! A simple thank you is no way near enough.
I don't understand why some people (fortunately, just a few) complains over bugs, WLODs etc. - considered the many hours being put into it and given it away, we should be thankful even if the phone can't be turned on.
At the moment I am running Wolfbreak's ROM v. 054 without any issues at all! The battery lifetime is just mad!! 88% after +10 hours. For me, that's way better than SE 2.1 stock!
Again - Thank you
Yes very good job! Congratulation to jerapela wolfbreak zdzihu and all other who give us a perfect xperia x10!

Just an idea: by throwing some bucks their way!
I totally understand that times are hard and there are not plenty of money
to spare, but I bet each one of us can provide a dollar or two.
Awesome.. i'm sure the dev's appreciate it.
Yes XDA has given many new wings..

In my case - with Wolfbreaks amazing work, I've saved many 100$ (2000-3000-4000 Danish Kroners) by extending the life og my X10, instead of buying a new phone - so throwing a couple of dollars his way, is the least I can do, so I will definitely do that.
I believe that might be the case for many of those using ROMs by zdzihu, trip, jerpelea etc.
XDA provides the 'thanks' button feature for this. I'm sure no developers are gong to read these threads as a new one gets started daily. All this really does is clutter the forums with threads that help nobody. I know the XDA app doesn't have the thanks button (it should!) but if you want to thank them bad enough to start a thread how about opening the browser and thanking them officially instead, that way its actually reflected in their profiles here.

Of course I could "just" use the "thanks" button - but I felt that starting a thread and writing a few words of my gratitude was the right thing for me - regardless of the devs reading it!
I don't believe that starting a thread and say thank you is a wrong thing to do

Hit the damn thanks button...

Seriously....its not hard. And no, trolls, I'm not whining because no one thanks my posts. Just look around at the ratio of downloads : thanks. You'll find simple .apk posts that have 110 views, but the post was only thanked 4 times. Please don't try to tell me that all 106 other people used the XDA app to download. I realize that you can only give 5 thanks a day, and the app has no button, but everyone here knows theres always been a serious lack of appreciation here in the Vibrant forum.
It's the easiest, most effortless way to show appreciation to someone, yet it seems at least half the forum can't take .28 seconds to hit the thanks button. Don't just download and run guys. Slam that button, and do it with a smile...cause you would expect the same.
Any time you download posted content, either via link, or via attachment...it is out of courtesy that you hit it every time....regardless of whether or not you liked the content. Also...dont just thank popular devs. Even if its someones first post, they still deserve recognition.

BOOM! Hit the thanks button, with some cheese on it.
Nobody cared about getting thanks until the thanks button showed up. I don't care if someone wants to feel special because some stranger on the internet clicked a button. Now all anyone does is solicit thanks from some nerds they don't even know. Who gives a damn.

youre such a rebel badass....classic vibrant user
yah we wouldnt want you to strain your finger muscles or anything. And the reason the "Thanks" button showed up was because of popular demand. It is a widespread feature across internet forums. Some people actually enjoy giving thanks....even if it is through a virtual, meaningless button......its certainly better than your deplorable attitude.
"hey, we'll take all the free roms, kernels, themes, apps, mods, etc. that we can get!! just dont expect us to press a 'Thanks' button, because WE think its a cheesey concept."
you dont care if someone wants to feel special?? interesting, well id bet youd want that person to care if you downloaded something of theirs and there turned out to be something wrong with it, right? Youre the type of person that downloads something....doesnt say thanks or leave any positive feedback....but then once you find something wrong, something you dont like, or something you WANT, THEN you will make the effort to jump on the forum and say a thing or two.
The bottom line is it doesnt matter what the hell you think about the Thanks button. If someone is kind enough to provide you with something that improves your phone experience, and all they ask from you to do in return is to move your mouse a couple inches to click the Thanks button?????....then you hit the friggen Thanks button!...quid pro quo, clarice.....

No I don't contribute much, but I try to help when I can. What I don't do is start threads whining about people not using the thanks button. Maybe I just don't get what the obsession is about the thanks button. Is it a popularity contest, or is their an achievement that we can unlock like in XBL or PSN?

The reason they leave, mainly, is for site hits. But I also think it's because the moderating on xda is so inconsistent, and sometimes hypocritical.
By keeping their content in a forum that they control, they are likely to have cleaner, productive threads...because anyone that flames/hinders production will ACTUALLY get disciplined.
But yes, I do agree that blasting the forum on the way out is cowardly....but I'm not going to point fingers. Just keep in mind that I kind of see where they are coming from.....people can be very unappreciative, and will jump at any chance to get on each other's case (see members above)....it gets annoying after a while, and starting a controlled environment can really cut that type of **** down...as opposed to letting the critters roam free

p.s. topshelf, we have both 221 thanks
I find this thread hysterical. My thoughts...
I LOVE when someone hits "thanks" - it is natural to feel good when someone appreciates you/your efforts.
I HATE when...
people whine about not getting thanks
or make posts about "click thanks" (defeats the f'ing point of the button / clutter)
and I hate when people make their signatures all about hitting their thanks button.
Both sides of the "argument" are right in this thread.

Still laughing myself. Well played BT.

Just a quick ? about saying "Thanks"...

Ok so basically, this is a rant for all forums not specifically this one...but I've noticed in a lot of the threads I read through people asking this or how to do that or can someone do this or where can I find that...now imagine how easy it is to click the thanks button the forum developer put on posts, hell even saying thank you in the thread??? Alot easier than it was for someone to take the time to answer your question or help you out?
I see this all the time on all the forums...
So why is it that most people don't do it?? Serious question? Has it come down to just being a gimme gimme gimme world? And trust me with 6 kids in my house I understand that...but my 2 year old neice says bless you when you sneeze or thank you for whatever reason it is deserved??
So why is it that some grown ass men or women or even teenagers on these forums can't even say thanks? Lol. That thanks button is there...well atleast my view on it...so that when someone gives me advice or a suggestion I see they have been thanked umpteen times or however many times and I'm like well this person seems credible? And it may not seem like it to everyone, but to me it kind of makes you feel good that you helped someone and they took the time to thank you Seriously people...we need to start thanking those that deserve it!!
And again this was a rant for all the forums I frequent not this one, not any specific thread, and not about me getting thanks because I dont care if I do or don't...I'm not a Dev, I'm not a Themer, I'm just a guy that visits forums and passes along info and knowledge I've recieved from people that I have thanked
And this will be on the other forums I frequent also since not everyone is on XDA
Thanks for reading
Now what are your thoughts
Edit** And for those that say I use forum "X"s app and there isn't a thanks button but I thank later from a computer, this isnt about not getting thanked right away...just not getting thanked at all **
I think people asking those questions over and over don't even know it...
If it was a little more in your face they would probably press it like after you reply it should ask ...would you like to thank?
Thank you!

This is the part I agree with the most. Even from the phone, hit menu on the XDA app, browser, and thank the person helping you.
Thank you...I too get a little irked when you spend a couple of days working with someone, fix their issue and then they are gone. BTW I thanked you!
Honestly, I liked XDA better when there wasn't a thanks button, then people wouldn't complain about it being used

Thats a great suggestion but I think then people would complain about it being in your face, like trying to make you thank someone. Which you never have to do. You aren't required to thank anybody...

Appreciate your honesty but again in my post I said it's not about the thanks button not being used
Even though I can point out I don't know how many posts in a single ROM thread that a person has an issue or question and it is answered or solved and like stated above...they are gone ...it's not about the button...but the lack of the common courtesy of saying thank you
*thanked for your honesty
IDK, one of my biggest pet peeves are people who are like panhandling for "thanks". The people who say "don't forget to thanks if I helped you" and things like that. To me its a meaningless number under my username. I guess its nice knowing you helped someone by them "thanking" you, but 99% of the time that I help a person, they actually write out a comment to me thanking me for helping them.
Yea, its a rude move not to thank a person that is helping you, but I don't help people for thanks. I help people because if I know something that can help them, I can make their day/life a tiny bit easier and then someone else will do the same for me.

That's exactly it! It's not about the thanks button lol Everyone is refering this to that lol
I only referenced the number because like I said...why is it really there? I think to let others know that you've been a help to someone previously....
It's about the lack of the common courtesy
That's why in my sig it says if "someone" has helped you not me! lol If you say thanks in a post back great! If you click the button cool! Just thank the person helping you somehow!
Edit: And thats another thing its about paying it forward I'm always helping people on the side of the road, or getting off the top of their cars during a flood...But unless they thank you how do you know that you helped them?
Edit: Maybe I should change my sig to say Thank them not hit the button

You really don't need any developers but one.
I've not tried it, and it may not be up-to-date, but it could be a starting point that's basically finished for you.
Or, just use this on your existing ROM.

Don't worry, I'll take care of it.
For future reference, there are moderators assigned to each device forum. You will find the contacts at the bottom of each Main forum. You may select one, and send a PM to them with your request.
Additionally, on each post, there is a "report" icon located in the right upper corner of each post "!". You may also select this and do a report that way. (although it looks a little strange to report your own post), but it happens none-the-less.

OK, quick lesson. When you do a post, you also have options. Select the button "go advanced" and you will see a lot more. Especially when you go back and select "edit post".
In the future, take some posters comments with "a grain of salt". Really, they're a good bunch of guys. Frankly, I knew it would happen. (chuckle)
When you wish to do a project such as you want, it is best to send some PM's to some Devs. This will avoid some of the "sharky comments".

Tip: your lockscreen can also have a live wallpaper!

I've had my S3 since the launch date and I've only discovered this feature yesterday. While looking at some settings, the help text said "you can't have this feature enabled if you have a live wallpaper set on your lockscreen". I was puzzled since I thought you can't put a live wallpaper on your lockscreen.
If you press and hold the home screen it will give you an option for "Set wallpaper for" and then "Home screen, Lock screen, and Home + Lockscreen". If you tap on "Lockscreen", it will give you "Gallery" and "Wallpapers" (and possibly some other app), but not "Live wallpapers".
However, if you go to Settings > Wallpaper > Home and Lockscreens, you can pick a live wallpaper for the lockscreen as well. I only need to figure out how to have a different live wallpaper for the lockscreen and for the homescreen.
ninja edit: wow, just figured out that if you tap on "home + lockscreen" when holding finger on the home screen, it gives you the same option. Now I feel dumb.

Totally agree.....and we all endured this "right of passage"......and we all know the difference between a bit of gentle teasing and being offensive....I would also add that a bit of fun mixed in with the important stuff does actually help build a sense of community, and from that an atmosphere of "all being in it together" emerges where people really start enjoying helping each other.....but the gauntlet, nevertheless, must be run

I'm not that new to android and I didn't know so thanks for the tip!
People are being too rude on xda, if the community doesn't accept noobs, why not close xda to invite only? And, I am not new to android and never tried to use live wallpaper with lock screen, so this info are new to me.
Thanks

It's not that we are rude... XDA was never about servicing or supporting noobs.. it was never about end users coming to ask people how to do normal tasks. XDA is not a personal help desk. XDA was made for DEVELOPERS to come and collaborate together. It's pretty sad that people have become so entitled to think XDA is a community where you can demand things, ask stupid questions, and expect people to solve your issues for you. XDA was not created like that and honestly we should all be super rude to the people that really dont belong here so they leave.
You want a more noob friendly place, try android central forums or other end user forums... not developer forums. And this is just a general comment not directed at anyone in particular just in general XDA has gone way down hill and it's 100% because of all the noobs that have flocked here.
It's pathetic how lazy people are and expect others to do their work for them.
I've seen countless posts like:
Person A: "If you google it you'll find links"
Person B: "Can you post the links?"
Me to person B: "*****, what am I your personal google assistant?, go google that sh%t yourself you lazy ass"
What I really think they should do is create an XDA sister site called XDA-EndUserNoobSupport.com
I can honestly see why the more seasoned guys leave xda for a site like rootzwiki which still has noobs but a far number less..
The whole "well that's what xda is for" mentality is WRONG. WE ARE NOT HERE TO SERVE ANYONE OR HELP ANYONE! We choose to, but it's not OUR JOB to. the way some people make requests on devs sounds like a boss giving an employee things to do..

This is a community, if you follow the rules, you can ask anything (in the correct way), but others users aren't obliged to reply or make anything. If you doesn't want to to help out anyone, just ignore the thread and the post will get to last page ASAP.
If your mother didn't taught you, politeness is a good move what everyone should follow. I'll not continue to discuss it here, feel free to PM.

Quoting as bla bla, addressing someone's parental situation and in the mean time venting your view on the subject does not make you right or more polite. Shame on you.
I don't care if this place is full of Einstein wanabes, if someone comes here asking for help, you act nicely and redirect him to the apropiate place and not act like some self entitled ass&$ole because you know a few lines of code or like to flash your phone every week and think you are l337.
Jesus Christ, what is this place? Are all forum moderators like this?
I am pretty sure all those advertisement banners I see on the main page don't care if the clicks come from n00bs or l337 coders and neither do the people who actualy put money in to this site... my god, I ave like 15 posts on this website cos I only read, I rarely post but this sht makes me go crazy, self entitled mods here.... my god
Why revive such an old thread?
Hey guys easy! I'm not a noob but i actually missed this feature too! Can't believe this! Thanks for the tip!:good:
