Has anyone found a way of backing up secondary users yet?
A nandroid backup will, but I'm looking for something that can restore multiple users after a factory reset and changing ROMs.
Titanium needs root access which is not available on a secondary user.

I'm about to change the rom on my nexus 7 and I'm trying to backup my applications and as much of their settings as I can to restore on the new rom or back on the current one if I decide to return. (currently running glazed 1.1.1 about to try paranoid)
I ran a backup of all user apps + system data, but when I verify it I get errors for Accounts, Application Widgets, and Wallpaper. Are these going to cause any significant problems when I try to restore and if so how can I fix this or is there any better way to do this?
Use CWM to do this...... search forums on how to install CWM on Nexus 7.......
Its likely because the compatibility with jellybean is not completely implemented as of now. And yes, it will almost definatily cause problems if you try to restore the specific backups that have problems, all the others should be fine, when you restore just deselect the bad backups and you should be golden

Since updating to 4.1.2, I've installed Titanium Backup and TWRP, and used both to backup my N7. Does anyone have a preference of one over another? Or should I continue to do both?

They both serve their purpose. A TWRP serves as a safety net and sort of a last resort if you truly screwed up your device with flashing or the likes, to restore everything to the exact state it was in when you took the backup.
TB is very customizable and app-based. It'll usually allow you to restore your apps across roms, move them across partitions, protect them, set schedules for backing up only their data etc etc etc...
I usually do one nandroid (TWRP) after flashing or updating and regular Titanium backups.

Hi MightyBK. As Logic_ described, both forms of backup have their uses; however, when testing a new ROM for yourself, it is best to typically perform a clean installation (factory reset/wipe cache/ etc) without using Titanium Backup's restore capabilities as soon as you are in the OS. This will give you better insight with regard to how the ROM is performing without the chance of conflicts, and you may always attempt to restore from Titanium Backup after getting a feel for the ROM.
Often, if you are upgrading a ROM to a newer version of the same series, the developer will inform you that a full wipe is not necessary, but it is always important to follow the instructions of the developer every time you flash as, with major changes, they may instruct you to perform a full wipe.
With regard to TWRP's backup, it is like creating an image of an operating system such as recovery media on a new Windows machine. It will save the exact state your machine was in previously. The old ROM/apps/data will all be preserved exactly, so this is intended as a rollback if you do not like your new ROM or if it is not functioning correctly.
I personally keep very little local data on my phone. Google's backup services are becoming more mature and the app restoration works fine for me. All of my pictures and such are all stored with Google+. This keeps everything clean and up-to-date after a clean install. It is admittedly more time consuming, though.
I hoped this helps.
Hello. Has anyone found a way to do this yet? I found a couple threads that dated a couple months ago with the same question but no answer. So if anyone has figured out a way to backup the apps and data on both a primary and secondary user account please help. Im pretty sure others are interested as well. I really want to try out some different roms but my brother will be really mad if I lose all his data again . Last time i backed the tablet up with wugfreshs toolkit thinking itd back up everything and when i found out it didnt after restoring i was screwed lol. Is there a way to pick what you want to restore with twrp? I know for my phone in cwm you can do an advanced restore and restore just certain things like apps and data. Is that possible for nexus 10?
I have the same problem kind of.
Have not tested but if you make nandroid backup in twrp on at least the data partition you should get all user data in the backup, right?
I however would like to make selected app backup in titanium where i could choose to include data for all or just single user. Not sure if possible.

Yes with tarp it backs up all user data. But like you I also want to backup certain apps with titanium. I hope they add this feature soon because I like changing Roms to see my favorite. I'm about to flash paranoid android and I did a full backup first. If my bro gets mad I'll just restore the backup so he can have his stuff back

Well i tried installing paranoid android. Then booted fine then i restored data via twrp and it wont boot i guess that doesnt work. Any other suggestions fir backing up multi accounts?

If anyone is interested go into super su and enable multiusers so now you have root on all accounts then just back up apps on each account with titanium backup and move then to pc (just in case) then you can flash any rom you want and restore the apps. Hurray . Its not as smooth as id like becaise wiping data wipes new accounts so you have to readd them but just back up all pics to google plus and anything else to cpu. Your apps and data from titanium backup will be backed up and now you have everything saved. So if anyone needs this it works. Took me a while to finally figure out a way with lots of nandroid restoring but now i.got it
Time to flash some roms till i find a favorite
As u can see im very happy

I am trying to do the same as you! The way you described doing it, I think you are just using Titanium backup app and not nandroid backups in the end, is that right? So you used Titanium backup all your apps and their data (but not photos/other documents/files on your tablet), and then you flashed your new custom ROM and used Titanium again to restore all apps/data in each user account separately? Sounds straightforward if I have this right! I have not done this before, so want to understand it before I do!! Thanks for your help... :good:

It's kind of annoying but it works. You have to back up the apps in each account then move it to a computer then back up the next account and move it to computer then back up the next etc... You have to do this because it erases the secondary accounts when flashing a new ROM so you lose all the backups you made. So putting it on a CPU then moving it back after the flash will make sure you have them

I have been scouring the internet for over 2 hours, and I can't seem to find anyone who has done something similar to this, so here goes:
I currently have a Nexus 6P with the Pure Nexus Project Rom installed. I would like to switch to CyanogenMod. Normally, this would be no problem, however I am running into some difficulties with backups. Ideally, I would just do a NANDroid backup from TWRP, but I don't have enough space on my device. Right now I am running a full ADB backup to my computer, but in this instance I don't know if I'll be able to restore that backup to a new CyanogenMod installation.
TL;DR: Will an ADB backup restore to a new custom rom i.e. restore to CM from PureNexus? If not, is there a way to do a NANDroid backup directly to my computer?

You shouldn't be using TWRP to backup/restore data between different ROMs in the first place. That will not only back up your apps but all settings as well, which will cause problems on a different ROM. The only safe way is to use Titanium Backup to backup your user apps (not system apps) and then restore that backup on the new ROM.

Could you point me to where you've seen someone recommending to restore a nandroid /data backup on a different ROM? It's widely known that this is nothing but trouble, if it's on XDA it probably needs to be taken care of.

Titanium backup is the only really viable solution in such a case. When you need to make a snapshot of your whole system in case of failure you use a Nandroid backup, however when you need to transfer data between /system formats then it's best if you use titanium backup.
Hey guys,
Not exactly a newbie but I've always rooted my phone within days of getting it. Now I've decided to root my OP5 almost a month after my first use and I need help backing up. As unlocking the bootloader will wipe everything on my phone I was wondering whats the best way to backup without Root and then restoring it later? I've seen the adb method but those posts were back from ICS days not sure if they still apply now. Also I've read somewhere in this forum someone mentioned adb doesn't restore everything, I primarily want my photos restored as I can reinstall and readjust everything else.
If I copy my photos to my PC and then paste it back after rooting, I can trust it won't screw up the dates and arrangement in the gallery app right?
Thanks
Adb backup is good as long as the app developer hasn't blocked backup in his manifest.
