I have a speed test of 12mbps and have been able to download files from the browser at around 800kbps. When using the Playstore, I get around 50-100kbps.
Anyone else having a similar issue? Could it be a problem with Three UK network?

There are other people reporting issues with download speeds and the Play Store seems to get mentioned a lot.

Those really refer to WiFi connectivity, my problem occurs on either 3G or WiFi. It seems to be a problem with Play Store only. Need for Speed Most Wanted for instance downloads at 900kbps roughly.
I'm having this trouble also, and I'm on 3 network in the uk!

Same Problem here. Via Chrome speed is about 900 kb/s and through play store much slower.
On the google play app store, ive been getting dl speeds of 150-200kbps for well over a month now!

Me too
I also have horribly slow play store downloads on Three although my speed tests are between 15-18 mbits. Seems to be specific to this device. My old Huawei g300 downloads much faster using the same sim and downloading the same app.
has anyone managed to find a fix for this?
I have the Nexus 4, 7 and 10... the speeds always vary. Sometimes I'll get 1/2mbps. Sometimes I'll get 50kbps.
Today I updated Beautiful Widgets on my 3 devices at the same time. My Nexus 7 (which I clicked 'update' on first) downloaded it at 50kbps... the Nexus 10 finished the update in seconds. It varies all the time. Very strange.

I am having the same issue in my Vodafone Indian 3G Network of 2mbps dl speed while getting only 10-20kbps on playstore .... it sucks...
I've had the slow download speed issue from google play for a few days now. Seems it only is slow on wifi. When I switch to H+/4g, I get normal download speeds. Not sure what is going on. I am on T-mobile in MD.
I'm on three UK and used to have this bug. I believe the fix for me was changing the Tcp congestion avoidance algorithm to reno. (you can do this with Franco kernel updater) or maybe trickstermod. But of course you need root.

I went to download my first podcast today. It's about 25 MB and it's taking like 10 minutes to download. I tried a diff. podcast from a diff. site and the same slowness. I have full signal strength. Does Tmobile have some kind of restriction to speeds of downloading?
It's my first 3G enabled device so it's hard to say, but it seems like the internet is bit slow to me.. It takes quite some time to open full site like xda, for example. I don't know if that's normal, so that's my question.
I want to exchange it before 30 days if this is a problem.. but it seems like the internet is not up to speed.
web pages and everything is quick and snappy. faster than when i had sprints 3g. it's only when i download something such as a podcast.

You shouldn't be getting limited. Grab the speed test app off the market and see what it measures your speed at. I get 3-5 mbit at my home most of the time, sometimes faster, and I've never experienced a speed limit when downloading a file.
I got Download: 217kbps Upload: 59 kbps with speedtest.net.
With other units I got: Download: 0.15Mbps and Upload: 0.10
I have 4 full bars for signal.
I tried this with my Virgin Mobile Intercept and I got Download: 1.02 Mbps and Upload: 0.17 Mbps
Something is definitely wrong. I am running Trinity Kernel with CM7 rom. Would this problem be with my phone or with TMobile?

NAND it and then go back to stock to see if it changes, that would be my suggestion.
You have 4 full bars, but do you have the 3G icon displaying? Is it green?
Your speeds sound like you're stuck on EDGE.
Perhaps try cycling the 2G only setting on and off...
do a speed test and see what you are getting.
Out of interest are you in the uk? As I know T-Mobile restricted there data speeds for those that brought the nexus s form a third party seller like the carphone warehouse.

This is true, but does this include the Nexus S, if it does include the NS then that is disgusting because the NS is only available from Carphone Warehouse in the UK, you can't get the NS directly from T-Mobile UK or any carrier for that matter as it is sold as unlocked and unbranded, so we have no other choice but to buy from a third party like Carphone Warehouse.
I know some people had to call T-Mobile when they got there phone because of slow internet speeds, something to do with the wrong data plan code.

Actually I had the exact same issue. I never check that setting so when my phone wouldn't switch off edge I took it into T-Mobile. Must say I felt very intelligent.

I agree its rubbish as they only sell through third party places. I had to call tmobile and complain about the data speed, they said that because I was not on the web and walk plus package that comes as standered with their Android phones when brought direct from them I would get a cap on my data.
The web and walk plan is am extra 5 quid a month but if you complain and make a point you use a lot of data, its the reason you use tmobile ect..... they sometimes upgrade you for free.
It took about 20 mins on the phone them but I managed it in the end.

Glad to see it was a simple fix. Sometimes we all forget to check the easy things as the first steps in troubleshooting!
I recently switched from ATT. Before I switched, I had my Dell streak and Nexus S both active. Every speed test I did, Tmobile blew away ATT, sometimes by almost 1mbs. There were even instances where I had less bars on the Nexus, and it still beat the Streak, which was on ATT.
Hi, not a big problem as I am normally on wifi but I've noticed that my GSII is constantly dropping of HSDPA every few seconds and if I do a speed test it only gets around 300kbps.
Now I have an LG Optimus on the same network, same room and that stays on HSDPA and gets around 1800kbps on downloads.
Any idea what would cause this?

Don't have another phone here right now to test against but just did a couple of tests with speedtest.net app
Download/Upload
2500kbps/1967kbps
1422kbps/2967kbps
6192kbps/2883kbps
2896kbps/2608kbps
Seems to work just fine here at least. Granted this is at a place with good HSDPA coverage.
Sorry to tell you that but it seems like a bug in the phone, i do have the same issue, i surfed the couple of forums and the problem is spreading, hoping it's not a hardware issue.

Yes I think it's a phone issue as my HTC Desire and LG Optimus are both working fine.
Hmmm. I hope this can be sorted with a software update.

I think it's a network restriction. People in another thread were having similar problems with buying the handset and the contract separately meaning the data plan they were on was only at 300kbps.
If you've got another handset that gets a higher speed, switch the sim cards and see if that changes anything.
My phone will only download around 360kbps but will upload at 1mb, so puzzled as to why it would be a network restriction (hoping it is as I'm not happy and still within my 14 day cooling period) ringing o2 later...

No, it's not a network restriction. Not on Three anyway. I've just taken the PAYG SIM out of my LG which is getting around 1800kbps and put it in the Galaxy SII and it now only gets 64kbps!!! It's constantly flickering between 3G and HSDPA. It's definitely a phone issue.
i had posted in the other thread about how it switches down to 3G when it's not being used and instantly switch over to H+ when in use. There were no performance issues
Also on AT&T network, when it's first started/activated it took a little bit of time before network performance improved both on day one and when i switched over to an unlimited data plan
Oh I forgot to mention. I reported this issue to Samsung yesterday but don't hold your breath!
The man I spoke to didn't seem to understand what I was saying and when I advised him that there were many similar problems and issues being faced by people on this forum, he simply stated that he had never heard of the site. I gave him the web address but doubt they will ever look in to it.
If your facing this issue, then I would ring them and report it. That's the only way they are going to find out about the issue.
Normal behaviour for it to sit on 3G, only switches to H+ once it's in full flow.
This usually impacts speedtests and such.
Best way to test is to download a file off a fast server.
Same thing use to happen with my Desire.

I have numerous 3G devices here and none of them cuts of HSDPA so erratically. If I start to stream AudioGalaxy on my LG Android, the HSDPA stays on as does my Huawei MiFi. The Galaxy S II is dropping connection every few seconds.
It doesn't make sense for two Android phones in the same room with the same network to get completely different speeds. Maybe a small difference but to get one having 1800kbps and the other 64kbps shows there is a problem.
I've just updated the phone to KE2 and it's made no difference. Will have to wait to see what Samsung say.

Early this morning I noticed that I could only connect to certain sites, my weather wouldn't update one out of ten apps would download from the market, two out of eleven feeds would update from my gingeritis thunderbolt. At first I thought it was my device, and my gb radio. After calling around I saw I wasn't the only one. I went to the Verizon store and their stock phones were doing the same thing. This is from the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area. Friends in Ohio and new jersey have confirmed the same. I wanted to put this out the for all those flashing new radios trying to figure out what they are doing wrong, when it is actually a Verizon 4g issue.
Thanks!

I'm having the same problem here in Phoenix, AZ. When you go into the LTE radio settings what do you get when you run a ping test? I get this:

I'm thinking the HTTP Client test is what is causing the issues we are seeing, not sure what would be effecting that.

Yep there is something going on, I finally got an answer back from the ping test I ran it kept saying unkown for the HTTP Client Test, if finally came back with an ISO exception fail. It only seems to be effecting some websites and all of the google services (google voice will not connect, can't go to www.google.com, or gmail). I can get to google.com on 3G but everything else still will not connect.
im getting the same results from my test as well.

It is on every browser and every app. All images look the same except saved images from before yesterday. I googled issue and this is what I found.
https://community.sprint.com/baw/message/730388
But this seems to be a issue for allot of people throughout the country and lasts for up to a month. It is only an issue on Sprints network and not when using wifi. Unfortunately I do not have wifi at home nor work. This is also not just a local tower issue. I live 11 miles from work and the same issue. It is also not just this device. It has happened on the iphone 5 and HTC one as well.
Well, I would guess/assume its a compression issue on Sprint's end.
I wonder if they are upgrading the towers where you are.
I have never (thankfully) had that issue.

It is a sprint compression thing. Some people are saying that if you put your phone in CDMA only then they won't get compressed. I do know for sure that if you connect through a VPN they won't get pixeladed, at least not for me.
I was getting ready to ask the forums of there is a way to get around it otherwise, like maybe changing a ##DATA# setting.
I have been having the same issue, pixalated pics, switch to wifi at the house and refresh, good pics.
This is absolutely a slap in the face to the consumer who stays with sprint bc they have decent service and unlimited net, but we are going to make surfing suck by having pixalated pics, but remember you have unlimited internet.
Yeah sorry choking your unlimited internet is like winning the lottery and just getting $40 a month from them, but hey you won right

Not sure if everyone has seen or read about this yet but it looks like the major carriers are intentionally slowing your connection down through services that compete with there own media.
Here is a YouTube video that lauds it all out for you.
I tested this on my device and saw a HUGE slowdown through fast.com (the Netflix server test). YouTube seemed to be largely uneffected. But others on AT&T unlimited plans have seen really bad slow downs in both.
So just wondering a few things :
1.) Has anyone else tried this? Are you seeing similar issues?
2.) Is this AT&T server side or is the firmware related? I'm on stock current AT&T firmware, but had anyone tried this or seen different results on the U1 firmware? I know of the S7 EDGE the Tmobile firmware actually got the fastest data a peed results on AT&T service when I tested on that device.
Thanks.

Crazy how fast they stopped following net neutrality.
Has anyone tried on the unlock firmware. I'm just wonder if it is server side or firmware related.
I'm not sure how this is news. ATT sent out tons of emails regarding what they call Stream Saver multiple times and provided links how to opt out if you want. Personally it doesn't bother me. I don't need the 1080P stream to a 5inch screen and its help bring the kids usage down by about 4M a month against our data usage.

It also limits it when I got spot my phone and access it through a laptop or my chrome cast.

Yeah it's like AT&T specifically targeting showing down Netflix. Soon BS if you ask me poetically mad peeps are dropping cable for Netflix
I haven't noticed a bit of throttling when I'm streaming Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, or Hulu using AT&T data... I don't do it a lot (especially since I can download videos on Netflix or Amazon) but I stream enough to be able to clock speeds. I agree it's not likely that it's firmware-related; if you're getting throttled, it's got to be server-side.

If you're on unlimited plus, streaming speeds are 10mbps
It's our way of getting an extra 30/month out of you.
Sorry.

Not on unlimited plus I pay for 25 GB now throttled. It's AT&T screwing us.

By any chance have you tried playing with your radio settings at all?
Im in the middle of a really poor service area where att is a roaming network so my tests are inconclusive.....
*#*#4636#*#* in dialer and run some tests with different network types enabled.
Or at least check it frequently to see what type of signal youre getting. Forcing LTE only may be helpful.
Sorry i dont have more for you but i wont be able to get more answers until im back at work

It's nothing I have done. Watch the YouTube video it's being done by every carrier. It's in violation of bet neutrality. And a breach of contract probably too. Check your own phone when you get somewhere with good service. It'll be the same.

I understand that you didnt cause it
What im saying is some people have reported overcoming throttles/bad speeds by changing their radio preferences.
