Root your Note II using CF-Auto-Root from the Original Development forum; instructions are provided. As for the best ROM, stock is best. It's best because it runs like a raped ape and you don't have to do anything to get it. Enjoy!!

Omega is nice, but personally- i work with rooted stock. It's blazing fast either way, and i certainly don't want to give up all the samsung schtiks in it for a customized rom.

Should only root for kernel, this beast doesn't need custom rom, only kernel for some tweaks.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium

Don't get all this fascination with custom ROMs, sure it's fun to experiment with new features and tweaks but when it comes to stability, speed, reliability stock is best.
No disrespect to all the hardworking devs, but I don't think a handful of enthusiasts coding in their spare time will come out with something as smooth as a multi-billion dollar company with a rigorous design/development/testing process.
Custom ROMs always seems to work fine at first but then there are always annoying bugs that show up like "HDMI out not working" or "camera not capturing video at 1080p" with the blame going on Samsung for not releasing drivers.
Personally I use stock rooted with the flexibility of Nova Launcher Prime, best of both worlds

the best rom?

I currently have darky's rom 3 installed and right now im kinda disappointed as the only real difference i've noticed is loss of battery life its dropped around 25% for no apparent reason. So i was wondering what kind of roms you guys have installed and what benefits are you getting from them? im thinking of taking away darkys and replacing it with new one, failing that i will just remove it altogether.
They all the best to each person who uses that Rom as every rom usage will be different from person to person.
the question is Which Rom is BEST FOR YOU??
try them all and choose whats best for you... we have different taste and preference... Enjoy your Journey
Depends on whether you still want Samsung features or just pure ics like cm9. I'm currently using slim ics debloated and 450mb of free ram.
I love checkrom since the galaxy s 2, it's awesome on the galaxy s 3. Very fluid with awesome battery life.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
There's no "best ROM". If there where everybody would use it. It's all about taste. Same with that damn battery life whining. Try them all out and chose what fits your preferences.

Can't believe this hasn't been locked yet. No such thing as best rom

"Best" rom threads are not welcome on XDA, as there is no such thing and the thread inevitably lead to hot headed comments from people trying to "big up" their favorite dev.

Looking for a good ROM

Hey guys, how are you?
I bought my SGS3 a few month ago. Since than I've been constantly looking for the best ROM.
I want a ROM with very good battery life, and I also want it to run smoothly.
Version 4.1.2 or above.
Also, if a kernel is necessary please tell me which kernel to use.
Thank you very much,
Orel/Xeiss.

What phone did you had before? I've currently a iPhone 4S and I'm looking to get a galaxy s3 because I'm sick of apple -.- was it easy getting used to? I also plan to install a custom rom as my old HTC was rooted
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Unfortunately best ROM threads are banned on XDA and this will be locked shortly , the reason being a certain ROM might be good for you may not be good for someone else.
All as you will be told is to go and try many different one and see which Is best for you.
Good luck.

I've had a Mini Galaxy before (Not the one that was just released)
I personally prefer Android than iOS. It wasn't really hard to get used to, In 1-3 days you'll become a master
If someone would suggest me to get an iPhone 5 instead of my SGS3, he won't live anymore
Ho watch some YouTube videos and decide. Good luck!
BTW thabka for telling me Motogp1, I'll do it. Moderators, if you can please lock this thread without banning me if would be great, I'm new here and I really don't want to get a ban right off the bed Thanks.
Just another last question, what's the difference between the forums Android Development, and Original Android Development?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
I would suggest starting with "Android Development" section for ROMs. Try them and find which suits you best.

Here you go!
Ultima rom v7.1 ( official 4.1.2)

You can try Ultima ROM. It looks and feels good.
You may try siyah, perseus, boeffla, galaxsih kernel and suit yourself.
Also look for wanam's deodexed stock roms.
Took me about a week to get used to from iPhone was rooted trying custom roms very easy but figured I didn't need all that so now just on stock 4.1.2 and loving it battery life is great.

Anything BUT Passion.
I recommend you move up to JellyBean.
The two ROMS I recommend:
-Slim (extremely lightweight with only useful apps)
-HellyBean (updated more frequently and has a bit more features)
you can find both in the dev section
Thanks but which one specifically do you recommend for me?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda app-developers app
Let's go with Hellybean
Wonderful dev, great rom.
To be honest, most of the roms for 4.2 JellyBean are quite the same as AOKP, PA etc. haven't came out with their releases yet. Just try Hellybean.
Please check PM and reply me.

It seems your samsung is network locked so you need to unlock it, search the forum and you will find how to get the unlock code.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda app-developers app
Sir...What is the best stable rom?
That would be dependent on you, as to what is best for you and your device, as you know just because we have the same device does not mean the same ROM will work, due to apps, usage so on...tbh you will just have read the threads and do some homework and test for yourself.

I think you should port it to the Xoom 2 ME instead.. :cyclops:
Hell yes, the xoom is still much underutilised in terms of good roms. the more the merrier
can't imagine it'd be easy so good luck :good:
Don't worry I've done stuff like this all the time

definately
I've been trying to find time to do some porting or something (never done it before) wanted to port over touchwiz ui so multi screen apps can be used it would make sense on the tablet.
Also in regards to paranoid android I nearly always use it or a derived ROM on my i9100 been trying to use the exposed framework on the Xoom 4.2 eos4 b
it it doesn't work
Yes please. that would be great. But do look at other PA based roms which sometimes have many more features before you decide which one to port.

Xoom 2
Xoom 2 first because we are stuck in ICS and after a long time waiting for this I think they wont update anymore. Original Xoom has a lot more support. And ICS is better but really crappy and slugguish too.

Guys, if you're really going to do this, why won't you stop all the fuss and start working? I think spamming the thread (with posts like: "I WANT TO BE TESTER!", "Do for my device first!") won't really help. Please stop all the spamming and only post useful posts and let the OP tell you when the Alpha or Beta is done to you guys test . I read all the comments on the two pages and all I saw on the second page were spam, please that's not useful! Why not to come with an useful tip for him or something like that? You already showed your love to this idea, now let the dev do the work. Thanks for your comprehension.
@OP Good luck with that I'm looking forward for this!

Suggestions for a ROM? Android 4.4.2

I was on SACS ROM but it wasn't compatible much with ktoonsez kernel.
I went to cyanogenmod and I'm getting 4 hours screen time with ktoonsez, however I like the features of touchwiz and I liked the ui a bit more (when using s5 themed ROMs, I despise old touchwiz),
So I'm looking for a smooth touchwiz ROM android 4.4.2 that is compatible with ktoonsez kernel
I'm currently on NAE modem

Recommendation threads always get shut down because people begin to say "so and so" ROM is the smoothest or the best. When the fact is there is no best ROM. Try out the other TW Roms that catch your attention and if you don't like it you can restore an older ROM you liked.

Ugh I hope it doesn't, I know there isn't a best ROM, just the fact is that I only found negalite, pacman, sac, and cyanogenmod, and I don't like all of them but I did like sacs, it just had a lot of bugs

XDA is a development site not a support site. As such members are expected to do the research, read through the development threads and decide what is BEST for them. The only results that would be posted here are what each member has found to be BEST for them by experimentation based on their phone/usage/setup/apps/signal strength. Please take the time to read through those development threads to learn all about the software you are about to drastically alter your very expensive device with.
Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation.

Have a great day!
