Does anyone know where to get the busybox binary that will work on the nexus 10? Also, how do you manually copy it to the system folder? I'm rooted and on the stock ROM. File explorer used to have an option to remount a partition in read write mode but am not seeing this option now. Anyone know the syntax to remount the system partition with write? I have root and can get shell on the file system.
TIA

You can grab busybox off the market, things like esFile explorer , root explorer, has options to remount RW , or you could just install a custom manta kernel ..

I've rooted and flashed streakmod recovery successfully but cannot seem to find install-recovery.sh to rename it to keep streakmod around. I have read posts/guides that say it is in /etc/ and in /system/etc but it doesn't seem to be in either.
Using a root enabled session of file expert to search for the file.
Streak is running stock froyo build 340
please advise

Dunno about file expert but in Root Explorer you have to enable the show hidden files option
I've enabled showing hidden files, super user privileges, mounting /system writable and even tried a couple different explorer apps to make sure I'm not crazy.
Here is the output when I look in the terminal:
Code:
$ su
# ls -a /system/etc/i*
/system/etc/init.streak.fm.sh
/system/etc/init.streak.post_boot.sh
Is there any other mechanism for disabling the recovery restore. What calls install-recovery.sh in the first place?
TIA
What rom are you on?
Preinstalled roms (roms that never existed as pkgs such as 347/357) dont have install-recovery.sh
I have a Razr M on verizon, not the developers version, android 4.1.1 build 9.8.10_27-2
I'm trying to root so that I can run some programs like Fox-Fi wireless tether, and every method for rooting I've found so far is just a script to push some files onto the /system folders or /data folders.
Now my /system and data folders are read only, and I don't have permissions to chmod or re-mount. I can't use su to get permissions without first writing to those folders (and I can't write without su and so on).
So how do I fix this? I either need root to su or sudo, or i need r/w file system. How do I get one, without the other?

Would someone please tell me how to change permissions on a read-only system file? I logged into and adb shell, I have root, but I could not execute this command: "chmod 777 HotspotProvision.apk" or "mv HotspotProvision.apk". I get an error saying the file is read-only.
I am trying to follow the instructions in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2456338
I also could not change the file name using Astro file manager.
Root explorer or root browser from the market will let you mount system r/w
Sent from my LG-LS980
Upgraded from factory rooted image of 4.3 to the OTA KRT160 I was able to get this rooted and the bootloader has been unlocked.
Cannot mount /system as r/w from either ROM Pro toolbox or ES Files Explorer. 4.3 has no such issues. Anyone else having these problems or know a way to mount this. I want to update my hosts file and a few other things.
Edit: This method works, just not any apps
adb shell
$su
#mount -ro remount,rw /system
make changes in shell
#mount -ro remount,ro /system

Tried that on a rooted Moto X...still no joy. Among other things, it's keeping AdAway from installing.
Edit: I eventually found MotoWpNoMo, which fixed my problem. It permanently removes write protection from /system. Maybe there's something similar for your device.
I had an issue with read write in es. You have to not only slide the root explorer option to on but also tap on root explorer text to change system to r/w. Hope this helps

Man I've been looking for your tip 2 days. And here you go. Awesome. Same thing with H/K LiveStage sound buried under option line.
Before posting, I searched the forum but could not find this discussed. As the title indicates, I am trying to add a file to /system/media/audio/notifications (or /ringtones, or even trying to rename a file in these folders) using Root Explorer but the folder is RO and will not mount RW. I tried other apps to mount the folder and also tried adb command line, but all failed. I noticed that some of the folders in root are RW but it seems that "system" folders are not. Would appreciate any help I can get.

After spending more time researching this issue, I found the following solution which I tested on my rooted 7.1.1 Axon 7 (unlocked, TWRP). After executing the command listed below using adb shell, I was able to mount RW and write to /system/media .....
To allow /system be r/w :
adb reboot disemmcwp
And to revert it back :
adb reboot emmcwpenab
