Just placed an order for a Kindle Fire HD 8.9, then I heard Fire HD 7 lost root because of OTA. Has anybody owns HD 8.9 got same problem?
If without root on it, I will have to return it anyway.
I own the 8.9 and rooted it right away. I've received one ota update so far. Yes, it removed root and superuser from my device but all I had to do was reroot using the same guide I used the first time and I had root back. They did not block the root method. I Can't promise a new update won't come out though that might block our current root method.

Looks like I got hit by OTA despite firewall. Anybody have luck with 10.2.4 or cm10/aokp on kf2?
Can be rooted, but locked bootloader prevents installing custom ROMs or recoveries. We need a good dev.

Clarke33,
You got hit with 10.2.4? The file must have been dropped before we moved the otacerts.zip bummer.
Did you loose root or are you OK? You probably can re-root on your own if you had to, don't you
think? If not, I will be around tomorrow.

Clarke33,
Then you know, we had no issues Rooting Software 10.2.4.
Thank you for the clarification.
To everyone, there are no issues Rooting the Kindle Fire 2 10.2.4
Just follow our guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069117
So far Amazon has not patched the known ICS Exploit.

Re:
I might be able to answer the following
I thought that the old method was so incompatible that it would fail epically without leaving any problems? Well if it has adb access you might get lucky, I'd ask around in the hdx section, the hdx has its own sub-forum, they might be able to help, try perusing one of the initial root attempts threads from before a definite root method was made, might find someone that did something similar.

You should be asking that question yourself, can you do it? The answer is, out ofy knowledge, yes. I would suggest, the easiest way I know. VulirtualBox, install windows on it and then root it from there. Also, which version of android do you have on your kindle? If it is 13.3.2.2 then there is no written exploit at this time, but if you have 13.3.1 then you are in luck! Go ahead and read the earlier posts on this section of this forum.
Yes, look at the how to root Kindle Fire ND with Mac/Linux thread in the 7" Kindle Fire HD (not HDX) General thread to get started with setting up your Mac for rooting. The download in that thread will not work for the box but the procedure will. It may seem complicated but it's worth working through. Also see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1917237 for a how to on setting up ABD on a Mac.
As stated above a root exploit currently exists only for the earlier version of Fire OS though it appears that progress is being made on the current version for the 7" HDX.

Hello everybody!
I have a 5th generation kindle fire running version 5.3.3.0 I have gotten it to install google services and the play store but I have yet to actually root my device. I have tried looking for guides on xda for rooting my specific version but I cannot find anything. If possible, can someone notify of a guide which tells me how to root my tablet?
Thank you in Advance,

If you have an HD 8, try Kingroot and or Kingoroot. If they don't work, then there's no root yert.
Hi all!
I have a Kindle fire hd 8 from 2017.
It has fire OS 5.6.4.0 (636559920) I try to root and unlock the tablet using the guide in the forum, but as I understand the system is on the last update and can't be rooted this way.
So I was wondering if I can downgrade the tablet to a previous version and root it, also I'm not afraid to open my kindle.
