I just bought Abraham Lincoln Vampire Slayer on Google play in HD and was really disappointed at the video quality. Has anyone else experinced this? Is there somewhere better to buy movies? It seemed like it was 720p which it most likely was.

i really want one, but i have heard that you cant't watch video on this? i have loads of tv series and films on my pc, and i would be using this xoom for watching on the train and and the gym....
will i be able to do that? someone told me there is an issue ?
The issue is lack of software to take advantage of the hardware. 720p and 1080p videos have an issue I believe. It varies depending on the file type you're trying to play. MKV files have the biggest problem. As far as I know, divx play fine..?
Once someone like Rock Player update their app for Xoom support it should be fine. The hardware can handle it, just need the apps!
I have personally played a ripped copy of Avatar, I own on blu ray, for a Xoom I own. I have played it at 1080p and 720p. There is just a specific baseline format you need to rip it at. I like the 720p setting as there is little visual difference and it is a lot smaller file. It is definately HD.
Apple has the "ready to go" movies by iTunes you can buy where the Xoom you currently have to rip in a specific format. The movies I rip though are of much higher quality than from iTunes currently. Several of my friends own iPads.
Once flash is out for the Xoom Amazon Video on Demand will work. I have tested it already on my Droid X.
In my opinion Apple wins right now is easy of use getting movies, where the Xoom smokes it in quality.

So the movies / TV shows you purchase from iTunes, can you play them on other non-apple devices or are you stuck with them in apple products? ie, can you purchase from itunes and play on the xoom?
When the ipad first came out there were issues getting videos in the correct format, until software was updated/released.
At least with the Xoom, once the software is available, any video you have from just about anywhere will play on it. iPad/products still require the video to be in a particular format no matter what.
I've been using Rock Player on my Xoom to watch ripped DVDs of the simpsons and friends. Technically, they are indivual episodes ripped as mp4s. So far, it works very well.
It depends on their format. Mp4s seem fine.

most of mine are avi's will that be a problem?
AVI's work fine with rockplayer for me
great thanks mate!
So from what I am reading on this forum, my Xoom will not play HD Video? Or will not play it very easily? This is disappointing.

You didn't read very far.
It will play HD video. It just wont play all HD video or common encodes of HD video or high quality HD video. All HD video isn't created equal. The Tegra 2 is actually incapable of decoding above L4.1 h.264, so any video above that, which is all 1080p that you can download and a good 70% of 720p, wont play without being converted.
It was easy for me. I currently have Avatar, District 9, and Serenity in 720P on my Xoom.
When you don't have apple forcing you 1 way sometimes that is the byproduct
If you have already received your n7 and have the third transformers movie, can you watch it from your computer and tell me what the resolution of the movie is at? Apparently google things that HD is 480p.
It gives me the options of 360p and 480p for watching on my computer.

Same for me but the sad thing is it won't let me play the movie when using Chrome, LOL.
Wow. I have purchased 3 movies with google play now, supposedly in HD. They even look horrid on my galaxy nexus. But they are all only 480p. This really blows in my opinion.
I just recently purchased the G2 and I've noticed some pretty poor performance when streaming video. I've tried both the youtube and Netflix apps and it doesn't look like it's HD quality at all. I've come from the iphone 5 where streaming in HD looks incredible. AND with the specs this phone has I would expect it to be capable of streaming even better. I tested the HTC one, g2, and S4 in the Verizon store and they all seemed to stream video pretty poorly. Is this just an android thing or am I crazy? I have a 720p and 1080p video stored on my phone and the quality is no where near that. I have the Nexus 7 and the quality on that is just amazing which makes me think it's not an android thibg. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

YouTube has always looked better for me with quality files compared to Netflix. I have not been able to get Netflix to stream true HD even with a solid signal. Google video does exceptionally well. Using my own files, I get beautiful HD playback.
Is it the video player or the actual video itself?
I don't stream Youtube too often, but I thought something was seriously broken (software wise) when the videos looked low quality. I tried watching through a browser and there appeared to be no difference.
After several low quality videos, I just recently came across a video that offered really clear quality so I'm going to assume that it was poor quality uploads for the previous videos I watched.
Does Netflix stream in HD in the US on the Nexus 6P? Unfortunately, Netflix does not stream in HD on many Android phones. I'm hoping that it does on the 6P.
Netfix stream
Netfix stream will make a better satisfaction.
I just had a live chat with Netflix and they will support HD streaming in the US on the Nexus 6P & 5X. The rep said that their current list of Android phones which support HD streaming will be updated soon.

That's great news. Good to hear that the beautiful screen on on the 6P will be put to good use by Netflix.
After having received my 6P a few days ago and watching a bit of Netflix, it appears to be in HD, although admittedly I am unsure how to verify it is. At least it looks good!
Well I know there is a marshmallow issue with the last update that is affecting nexus devices with streaming video such as Netflix and YouTube which is causing the video to look washed out, its happening on my phone. Google has said they are working on the issue.
