[Q] Inductive Charging when phone is off? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Nexus 4 coming in tomorrow, and I was planning on buying a Oregon Scientific Alarm Clock inductive charger.
I want to be able to put it next to my bed at night, but I also want to keep my phone off. Will inductive charging be able to work when my phone is off? Anybody know?

It works with the phone turned off on the LG wireless charger.

Also works on Philips DLP7210B/10 when turned off.

As others have commented, shouldn't make any difference. It is just two coils (like a transfomer) instead of a hardwired connection.

Charging - Desk v Car - Confusing

Hey Guys,
I have a query regarding charging my Hermes / 8525.
If I plug the phone into a wall unit, the orange charge light immediately comes on.
If I use the phone, or receive a call the phone continues to charge.
Once the phone has been used the phone/screen stays on.
When I plug the phone into my car adapter, the phone doesn't begin to charge until the phone goes into sleep mode. But then when I go to use the phone it stops charging. So if the battery is on it's last minutes, plugging the phone into my car adapter does NOT let me continue to use the phone. I have tried 3 different car chargers.
This week I bought an XTLINK Bluetooth Cell to Landline Converter. This is a great little box, and I love that once I walk into my house my cell phone rings through my phone system. Call Clarity is great.
But with the Bluetooth link active constantly the battery drains like crazy.
So I purchased a desktop charger unit. It arrived today. You can use it to charge the phone or with USB to synch the phone. So I plugged in the wall adapter to the cradle, and the phone only charges when not in use.
But when I hook up the cradle via mini-usb to my laptop the phone goes into constant charge mode - but it's doesn't stay on after being in use.
Can someone explain to me why the phone has these different charging modes ? Is there something I can do to change a setting to make the charging more consistent ?
Thank you,
Dave

no one else knows about this ?
I have the same problem with USB charging in the car when I was running vp3G's Rom. Now I switch to Crc's Rom and the problem is gone.
But my phone would stop charging if I use my GPS software thru bluetooth and bluetooth headset. In that case I just reset my phone and it would charge normal again.
I have seen this too. I don't know the exact details, but the phone checks the charging current when it is on, to see if it's within a certain value. If it's not, it stops the charging circuit to protect the battery. That's why it works when it is asleep. You'll need to buy a car charger specifically designed for the Hermes.
Yep, there is a long thread on car charging on the forum. Like the other uses says, either buy a HTC official charger or have a look at the other thread about soldering pins 4 & 5 together on the USB connector.
I have a generic car charger from a local electronics store that does not have a problem charging whilst talking over a bluetooth hands free and navigating using a
bluetooth gps receiver, however, I am using one of CRC's roms so that might be why.
The only thing I have found is that if I leave the charger plugged into the hermes when I start the car the hermes stops charging and will not charge again until I reboot it... disconnecting the plug before cranking the engine and then whacking it in straight after works around the problem though.
There is probably so much of a voltage drop when cranking the engine that the little DC-DC convertor can not keep the charge current up.

[Q] VS980 Wireless Charging Stopped Working

I've been using wireless charging at home and work for over a month and love it. But it stopped working a few days ago, and the device no longer detected when placed on a wireless charger. Then it worked sporadically for a day, and now it's dead again. Any suggestions or diagnostics I can run to figure out if it is a hardware or software issue? TIA
Sorry to ask ... but it could be the charger itself ?
I have a cheapo charger and it can act up sometimes. Luckily, it has a LED ... if the light stays on after I remove the phone then I
will need to reset the charger (or it won't charge the phone next time).
I don't think it is the chargers, since the phone started failing on both at the same time and the Nexus 7 still charges fine on the one I have at home. I wonder if there is a software setting to turn wireless charging on/off or something?
I think that the problem may have been static for some reason. I have found that rubbing the back of the phone with a cloth (my shirt) before putting it on the wireless charger gets it to work. This holds true with or without bumper case on the phone, and works for my home and office chargers. Strange.

[Q] daydream with wireless charging

I have the wireless charging back and when I place the phone on the charging unit a popup comes on saying that it is within proximity of wireless charging, the phone starts charging.
Now to my issue, daydream does not automatically come on.
Ideas ?

Hey PolarBearMI, I believe the daydream feature is disabled on wireless charging, here's why: you get 2A on wired charging, I'm guessing that with the screen on with daydream it cuts it to 1.5A easily slowing the charging down. Now on wireless charging you have from .75 to 1A depending on your station and card setup. If the screen would be on during that it would basicly take the charging to a crawl. Just a theory. Don't think there's a solution to get it going.

Wireless Charging in a 2016 Chevy Tahoe LTZ

OK, so I know this is a bit of a Hail Mary, but...
I have been unable to get it to work. I've tried every position possible, even face down...
Does anyone have a Chevy with wireless charging working? Is there a setting in Chevy's software, or a switch somewhere?
Have you tried another phone on it and seen it work? If not doing that would eliminate the vehicle being the problem. Just a thought
I haven't tried any other phones, but my phone wirelessly charges fine on the Samsung Fast Charge puck and an Anker pad.
I have 2019 Tahoe Premier and the wireless charging is perfecto. I always charge my Note 8 on it. If you connect your phone through bluetooth to chevy Mylink, You can even see in the dashboard the charging status and the %age charge.
Just check that you keep you phone well seated in the space with screen facing up and there is no thick back cover on your phone.
Hope this helps. Let us know either way...

How often do your use wireless charging for you S8+?

Wireless charging is a cool way for charge, which is more convenient and help you get rid of the bothering cables. But the charging speed is slower than original cable charging.
So how often do you charge you S8+ wirelessly?
Never
Seldom
Sometimes
Often
More often than cable charge
Mostly
I usually use it multiple times a day. It's on my desk at the office so I just drop my phone there.

Yeah, very convenient to charge in separated time.
I always use my wireless charger when I'm at home. When I'm on the road or staying at a hotel I use cable [emoji5]

anyone know any good 3rd party wireless chargers? for UK all the amazon ones seem to have issues with the s8+ and are not even designed for the s8+ even though they advertise that it works for the s8+ it's misleading.
I use it everyday!
I've never used the cable to charge it.
I'm about to get the official samsung wireless charger convertible 2017 edition. How long are the charge times compared to the fast charger oem?
Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
99% of the time while i sleep from around 12am to 5am
usually when i charge i'm at 20%
i rarely use the usb charger. only if i need to quickly get to 100% maybe once a month
Daily using my car charger.
I use it everyday

Often while in the office.
Mostly wireless charging.
I use it at home but if I'm at work I bring my regular charger.
Only tune I use the cable is in the car. Otherwise, I have a far wireless charger on my nightstand, on my end table in the living room, and on my desk in my office. If I really need a fast charge and don't have time wait, or I want to use my phone while it charges, I'll use my charger from my Pixel XL. I haven't even taken the Samsung charger or cable or of the box. Nor have I removed the ear buds.
Always.
I only need to charge it once a day which is before I go to bed and I just plop it right on my wireless charger. I turned off the fast wireless charging since I don't need it to fast charge overnight (less heat). I gave in and bought the new convertible charger (it finally went on sale for $75 CAD from $130) and it works far better than the older Samsung wireless chargers. The older chargers just didn't seem to work well with the S8 for some reason. I had the charging pad for overnight charging and I'd wake up with a warm phone in the morning. The charging stand I had on my desk and it rarely detected the phone when I placed it on there.
Only once I used and it's slow so cable charging is better for me
cable charging for home. wireless charging for office
We (both my wife and I have S8+ now) both use wireless charging at work and at home, and she has it in her car.
At work I have a Yeesite 3 coil charger that doesn't do fast charging, but sits right next to my desktop pc so is very convenient. I'm not always charging on it but it's super convenient and doesn't interfere with either bluetooth or wifi-hotspot should I be using those.
At home I have an old Choetech wireless charge pad on my nightstand from back when I added a Qi pad to my GS5, doesn't do fast charging but works fine for the overnight recharge. It's a little small at this point and I sometimes don't get the coils lined up, so I may be replacing it with something more appropriate.
I put a Dodocool wireless charger / holder in my wife's car for her, and it supports fast charging (phone declares it's fast charging), and holds the phone just fine. Haven't benchmarked recharge times yet but my wife seems pleased with the setup.
I don't have one of the Dodocool in my car because with the hard wire I get Android Auto integration, with the phone out of the way in a nice little cubby. I have a magnetic cable adapter that has proven reliable, full USB speed, and full charging speed both using a wall-wart and in my car hooked up with the cubby holder I use for my phone that keeps it all safe and secure in the car (even when having a little fun on a back road).
