With my soon to be owned Nexus 7, will I be able to download games from Steam and be able to play them?
Steam on Android? You want play windows games on Android?
Short answer: no.
Long answer: Steam for android is just the steam client. It only allows you to chat/browse the store. Games on stream are not for android.

Best alternative for best quality games is the Android Humble Bundle. Great games for a good cause.

Well, in the Consumer preview we had Solitaire, Pinball FX2 and Hydro Thunder Hurricane Xbox Live Games, in Release Preview we have Fruit Ninja. But those games was published as Standalone apps and really don't use the Xbox Live features at all. I Know it's because Windows 8 it's not an actual Oficial Sell and Release of Microsoft but i think we need archievements and other Stuff we have normally on Xbox and Windows Phone games.
The base of this forum it's to ask you: Do you think that it's good to see Windows 8 Xbox live games as standalone Games? or it's better to have a "Xbox Live" hub where all the games are listed and we can see our friends, profile, archevements etc... exactly like Windows Phone 7?
For me it's more nice and better to have that Xbox Live Hub. More social, the actual "Xbox Games" app it's not really an utility.

I'm pretty sure that there will be more functionality introduced later on. I'm rather hoping that Xbox Live Games will be the new Games for Windows Live client honestly. I thought it would nice if they gave the ability to launch games from Xbox Live Games, sorta like a Steam/XFire competitor with Messaging, Game Launching (Maybe replace Windows 7's Game Explorer with it), etc.

If smartphone video games have a weakness, it's probably their inability to emulate the riveting and immersive experience that consoles offer.
Sure, there are mobile gaming products out there like the PlayStation Portable (PSP), but when we're constantly lugging around tablets, laptops, and more importantly—our Samsung Galaxy Note 2 phones—who really wants to carry around a separate, dedicated gaming device?!?
There are a lot of games in the Google Play Store, but few have what it takes to beat those available for the PSP and other portable gaming consoles. So, how can you bring open-world, storytelling, mission-based games like GTA: Liberty City Stories to your Android device?
Use an Emulator
a PSP emulatoravailable for free on Google Play allows you to bring larger-than-life video games right to your Android device!
While it's difficult to run newer, high-quality games as is on most Android devices, PPSSPP makes it possible to play ROM versions of them by simply emulating the experience.
Since its release, PPSSPP's library of games that it's able to play has increased substantially. Some of these games include:
Persona 3 Portable
Little Big Planet
Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories
God of War: Chains of Olympus
Final Fantasy Type-0
Wipeout Pure and Pulse
Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X
And many more!
PPSSPP is only an emulator, meaning you'll have to find the files on your own. If you're skilled enough, you can turn your own PSP games into .ISO/.CSO files. If you're not comfortable doing that, you can search the Web for the appropriate ROMs for games you already own. That's what I did in the following video with Little Big Planet.

My net is sufficiently slow to not be able to buffer videos, how's the gameplay and speed? I heard a while ago that very few games do run, and even if they do, quite slowly

well i actually tested some months ago with monster hunter freedon United and it was good no big problems playing, a bit laggy but it is by the emulator itself coz i switched off power saving and it worked in the same way. maybe now with some releases more it is good enough to play like in psp but if not you can also play without big problems

I guess I'll give it a try, don't want to carry both the phone and the psp to college
Thanks!

I'm running CM 10.1 on my Nook HD+, and just finished watching the last 9 races of the America's Cup on it (using the official America's Cup app from Google Play store). No problems at all, looked great. Watched a number of HD videos that I'd downloaded (e.g., Harvard Science and Cooking lectures). Fine all around, screen resolution is fantastic.
Not a big gamer, but have been playing Where's My Water (after watching my daughter play it) and a version of the old favorite Tetris. Again, graphics are fine, no lag issues.
I think you'll be very happy.

I bought one (hd+) about 3 months ago, and have been using CM10.2-sdcard as daily driver for about a couple of weeks. Reasonably fast for Netflix, Hulu-plus, Adobe Reader (PDFs with heavy graphics). Not sure about games. Not laggy at all for videos.
I have a Nook HD+ at my home, I gave it to my father. He lets my younger brother play with it all the time; playing various Google Play games, Nintendo 3DS ROMs and so much more. It's rarely ever used for reading at my home, other than when web browsing.
I would completely recommend a Nook HD+ for your entertainment purposes. It plays 1080p video files (.avi, .mp4 and .mkv are all what I've tested) perfectly fine using MX Player. Games work on it perfectly too, however, don't expect too many games to be compatible or expect to play the latest high-end graphical games. The three reasons for this is, firstly, the graphics performance of the tablet is not the greatest, but then again we can't expect it to be at a bargain price. Secondly the dual-core processor can't push as much as today's quad-cores can, and finally; many games and apps don't support the full 1080p resolution of the tablet (i.e. Sims FreePlay and other similar apps only support 720p or lower resolution screens). Of course, the last factor plays a major role but more apps are starting to support the higher resolution.
Games are compatible however, and you have a large selection on the Google Play store. The Nook should be able to run Hill Climb Racing, granted the game supports the 1080p resolution. If it does, the Nook will eat the game for breakfast. The games I've run on the tablet which was slow/laggy are Asphalt 7 and 8. FIFA 14 seems to run decent though.
Once you do open your Nook, remember to install CyanogenMod 10.1 stable (not nightly), of course by then we could have CM10.2 or even later. I used the Nook before the 2.0.10 update, and it was not worth having (no apps/games were installable, nor did Google Play come as standard). Once CyanogenMod was installed, it was a full fledged tablet, competing against the likes of the Nexus 7. Of course, with the 2.0.10 update, the Nook can now download Google Play apps. For the sake of Android, I would still recommend CyanogenMod however.
Once you install CyanogenMod, which is an easy process, you'll love your tablet. It should completely satisfy your entertainment needs.
I hope you enjoy it, and an early Merry Christmas.

I read there are apps that make the games run at 720p so if they cant run 1080p it will be smoother

Heavy 3D suffers a bit at the high resolution of the HD+, but general GUI and video always seem smooth to me.

That app creates instability and can create boot issues. Not worth it IMO, but already "took" my $2. This function is more suitable at kernel level and part of settings. Best IMO to avoid.
It is also a battery sucking mess in sleep mode. The app must constantly poll the chipset.

It is not as much the app as how it changes the resolution that is standard for all.
Playstation 1 Games play smoothly on the Fire TV using Emulators for Android, because of the faster processor and 2 GB Ram it feel like a PS1 on steroids.
I used Amazon Controller and it was working nicely, you could even connect a PS3 controller, to get the ultimate Playstation experience.
Here is the video how to, Peace:
http://youtu.be/cgayRcYw2vY
I've been using epsxe emulator for playing old PS1 games. I've only tested 3 so far due to space limitations on the AFTV. Final Doom didn't work at all just black screen. Kula World works but has graphical glitches and Tomb Raider Last Revalation works perfectly. The sooner Amazon enable USB to be used for external storage the better as I've only room for one PSX game at a time due to low memory and my AFTV is less than a week old.
Yes me too I would love to see the fire Tv with the USB Storage enabled or even a new model that's offer 64 gigs of stores, because it's can't replace many physical Devices. And I have a feeling that the next fire TV Will be fantastic.
Do you have to have root to do this?

No, no root required. Just sideload the epsxe apk (or Fpse apk). You'll also need a PS1 bios and game rom files for whichever game you want to play. And a controller.
Curious if you have this working with ROM Collection Browser and if so what emulator you are using?
Haven't used this with rcb yet only using standalone emulator but mame and SNES 9x both work with rcb. Had never used it before until tonight so took a while to learn to configure. Will try epsxe with it tomorrow.

Set one of my aftv with a sideloaded free version of epsxe and the game Medievil last night. All went well except that I had to map all the buttons on the Fire tv game controller. Game play was very responsive and extremely good quality picture.
Is there any way to have games on my network storage and access/play from there?
I don't think that would be possible. Think the psx rom images would be way too big to do this over a home network. Hopefully I'm wrong as I keep all my different game roms on a drive together and would love to be able to access and play from this via a network share.
Probably not a whole bunch of fans of Bigfish games but I love them What I am wondering is if it's possible to get the same Bigfish Game Manager on my Fire 7", 9th Generation? I looked around after reading about downloading from Google Playstore, which of course I have on my tablet, but all they have as an app is not the same as the Game Manager on my Windows 10 Desktop. So, I can't even download one of my games I've purchased online and own now.
I know Kindle can download from outside source, but I am thinking only Android versions of apps, and not the full version of Bigfish Games.
Hope this makes sense as I really haven't a clue. Thanks in advance for any help Here's a link to the bigfish website that might be helpful, although no info on getting the "actual" Game Manager, only Big Fish Casino:
