Bartender wanted to see my phone, and promptly dropped it into the full sink. Pulled it out and it was still on. Turned it off and back on again(I know I know) because it's supposed to be nearly water proof. When it came back on it said no sim card detected, so I pulled the card and turned it back off. Went home and put the phone in a bag of rice with the sim card slot open and the card removed. Next day it worked fine.
I
love
this
phone.
^Wow. I have no desire to test your claim lol but if that's true, that's pretty damn good!
I still wish to eventually see videos like with the previous RAZR where people dropped theirs in water.

That's ridiculous. Gotta love that Motorola build quality. One of the biggest reasons I got this phone.

I want this level of water sealing on my lenses and camera bodies. From what I remember of CES 2010/11 there were several companies rushing to patent and sell hydrophobic coatings for smartphones. They had kiosks with phones sunk to the bottom of fish tanks and all that. It's cool to see this stuff used in real products.

Ditto. Ruggedness plus the promised water resistance is what got me convinced on this phone. Probably its a bad idea to sink it in water due to the fact that its not actually water proof, but its nice to know your phone will survive some rain or sporadic splashes.
That's awesome info. I've been a Motorola owner since my OG Droid. The RAZR HD Dev edition is going to be my next but nevertheless I think that bartender would be buying me a new phone... Or getting his ass kicked lol

The price was right. 90 bucks for a decent dx desk dock and windshield mount.

My sister has one. It's actually pretty nice after you root it. Good thing for you, rooting is super easy on that phone (1-click method).
If you stay stock then you will hate the phone, motoblur really is awful on that phone.
So i just bought the note 2 a few weeks ago and desided to give me brand new never scratched mind condition S3 to my girlfriend. In 5 days she dropped it between the elevetor crack and fell down 9 floors !!!
When we finally found the phone (thanks to the elevetor guy) i checked the phone several times in detail and found that the only thing that was broken was the glass in front of the screen the screen worked perfectly (i could still use the phone btw touch worked) .
Samsung i love you..
https://www.dropbox.com/s/3ae1cwm6z6ugx4j/20121024_153106.jpg heres a pic of the phone (cant upload to xda for some reason..)
So she dropped her phone through the 1inch gap between the floor and the elevator....really??

I dropped mine to a hard ground from normal standing height and I thought it was bad enough until I saw yours.
Anyway mine just got some unnoticeable scratch and works perfectly.
That kind of robustness could only be found in older Nokia phones. :good:
We wannt see pics.... We want pics.....with the elevator crack and the screen !!!

Impossible. The Elevator crack is too small..and i dont think that the phone drops exactly into it -.-
Such pessimists, I've seen old school elevators where there are couple inch gaps and you can see all the way down. I believe the guy, and if it's fake, with a mind like that, he should be writing literature

Well, kudos to Samsung, I suppose. The only weak spot on our phone is made my Corning. (>_>)
I love Samsung and I believe S3 is pretty resistant. Depends on how is dropped. But she should had very bad luck and dropped the phone on the bezel in order to fit that space between elevator... that's why I want to see the elevator.

Dropped mine from a pub roof, survived with minor chips off the corner,
As for the elevator, did your phone grow wings on the way down and did you or the other half take any funny looking tablets before this all happened?

9 floors? really? is someone willing to perform a Myth Buster? i surely wont because due to physics, there would be more damaged..unless it had on an iron man suit.
my friend dropped his while walking and the phone bounced and flipped many times, the battery cover popped off and the bezel was effed. messed up part about it, it happened right after he purchased it from the phone store.

I was sitting on my porch, letting my dog walk on the yard when a hummingbird flew to our little feeder beside me. It scared me cause its wings are so loud, but when I noticed what it was, it immediately made me think of this special place. Little old Epic and its Hummingbird cpu. I don't frequent XDA anymore, but I miss the fun that we used to have right here.

Sold my Xperia Mini Pro yesterday, even though it was once #1 on my 2nd-hand item wishlist...
Epic is now an awkward device in my hand particularly because it's such a nice phone for cell calls and texting yet it's not a global phone (and I'm on China Mobile, GSM)... But being the 1st capable Android phone I've acquired, especially given how my bought-and-sold HTC Dream and Moto Milestone performed, Epic is always to stay beside my pillow for bedtime TWRP fun! Sure hope that would be how most E4Gs end their life...
And as of now, to be off-topic, T-Mo's Relay 4G is Epic's proper GSM sequel (current wishlist #1). While on Sprint there's only the Photon Q, and Verizon the age-old Droid 4. Again, so lucky of us to have one of the first (after HTC Dream, of course) 5-row QWERTY Android phone!

Its almost completely fine, there is a tiny scuff on one corner (amazingly) anyway I was just asking in case there's anything I should worry about. Reminds me of the time I was out on my mountain biking and got cold hands so pulled my gloves out , at the same time my phone also came out.
Hit the concrete did at least 30 flips and slid across the floor 10 to 20 feet.
I walked over to it expecting the worst. There wasn't a single scratch on it . The case had stood up proudly.( cheap one )
Then I read on this forum that folks have smashed the back glass just by putting it in there jeans pocket.
Seems like some devices maybe have a better build quality then others.
We must be the lucky ones.
Also from the U.K maybe they ship better phones here . Ha ha
