Don't be shy. Tell us how you really feel.

Pleasant surprise, rumors were pointing to mid December but it's looking like we'll be getting it earlier than expected. Now the wait for 4.2 begins.

Some should have it late tonight or early tomorrow morning for the soak.

They should just jump straight to 4.2

Cool you you had the soak pushed? What app did you use to keep root? OTA rootkeeper by vodoo?

No screenshot?

I'm running the .41 build too. I can say that it feels smoother than the earlier Jelly Bean leak. This thing is running well. Also, they removed some of the blur skins and made it look closer to AOSP.
This is a great, great phone.

The OTA is very smooth and fast on my MAXX HD, and if possible, battery management is even better. Need to be on stock ICS with the small .72 update. Update SU and binaries, check ota survival, use VooDoo OTA Rootkeeper.
No soak here. The OTA is in the wild, flashable in stock recovery.

Fast boot back to stock
Root
Ota root keeper
Super user ota survial
Take ICS update ota
Root again - ota
Make sure binaries are updated
Temp unroot
Place ota file on external SD
Boot to recovery..flash jelly bean
Install ota and superuser.root
YAY...jelly bean with root

I used OTA rootkeeper by voodoo, and after the 4.1 OTA on my Moto RAZR HD MAXX, I could not get root back. Rootkeeper says SU restored, but nothing happens, even after a reboot.
I hope someone finds a way to root JB.

Check and see if there is an update for superuser in the market. After that run the update command within superuser. Now reboot and verify if you are rooted.

Thanks for the help. There are no updates. I hate to sound dense, but i dont see any update command in superuser. What is really odd, is that I was going to uninstall it, and reinstall it, and its almost like superuser is part of jellybean, as it only let me uninstall the updates, but not the entire application.

Blocking OTA

Droid2 Global, rooted stock rom. I'm worried about OTA updates. I want to block them (I already received one, which required me to re-root). I'm worried that future updates will disable the method used to root.
I presume that the available roms have OTA disabled? Unfortunately switching roms isn't an option for me right now.
Rename /etc/security/otacerts.zip to otacerts.zip.bak and the OTA update will fail to validate and therefore not load.
I could have taken the update and rerooted almost as fast as I took you to type your post. Why is simply rerooting such an affront to so many people? Don't seem like much of a big deal to me.

His concern was losing the ability to reroot if moto chose to mess with the D2G's rooting method. I don't really see them going to those lengths but that was his concern not simply not wanting to reroot.

It sounded to me like the same thing everbody was worried about with the d2 OTA updates.

So is it best to allow the OTA updates and then just root again, or to stop them from happening? I read somewhere that renaming the otacerts.zip file is not a good idea and can reduce battery life. Are there any other ways to prevent OTA updates with the stock ROM? If you get an OTA update, will it cause any problems or does it just unroot the phone? Thanks.

GB OTA Update

So obviously the GB OTA update for the DX is coming soon. But my question is that im on stock 2.2 but i AM rooted. So will being rooted block the OTA update when it is finally pushed?
thanks
In past DX updates it has not blocked it, but you would have to re-root. I am not sure about the next update but I assume it will be similar

Rooted on 4.1.57 not seeing Update?

My Atrix 4g is rooted on 4.1.57 and I am not seeing the latest 1.8.3 update. help!
Me either. I'm pretty sure its not because of root though since others with root have gotten the update
Thats what I was wondering. I was able to update with the root last time, I don't see why this would be different
So we need to unroot and then update ?
And then root 1.8.3 with Gingerbreak?
Nothing should effect your ability to see it. If you have one of the pseudo roms installed, that will prevent you from installing it, however.
I don't think we need to un-root to see the update - that really shouldn't effect anything. Once we get to 1.8.3 GingerBreak will root it fine, the issue is just getting to that point via OTA Update which we aren't seeing
no root here and I'm still not seeing it yet.
1.8.3 isn't live yet FFS. So much damn misinformation floating around.

Rolling out doesn't mean live for everyone. Also, this update isn't official until ken releases Gingerblur 3.0 anyway, since the stock experience is pretty much a joke.
Is GingerBlur the best rom? // easy to install/update?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Just flash the sbf it doesn't wipe any data of course im not running any mods or "roms" other than root. It did get rid of root though and running gingerRoot wiped my internal storage (like it said it would), but i backed that up no harm ;-)
So my area in NC is not "live" yet it seems.
Not live in Philadelphia either
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
The patch isn't live yet folks! It's still being pushed out in testing.
I believe it's not root, but deodexed files which cause issues with updating. People with root have managed to update, but people like me who had GreyBlur had to flash back to 4.1.26, update to 4.1.57, update to 4.1.83, then root and sideload again. Also, before rooting, it's adviseable to use Kennethpenn's deodex flash for 4.1.83 first.
rooted, running gingerblur 2.5.. no update available yet here in south Florida. not too concerned about it though.. i did the HUSPA mod & i'm content for now

Can't install system update

The new update downloads, but after rebooting the phone, it decompressed the update, then flashes an exclamation point and sends me back into my regular Android, saying the system update failed.
I am rooted, but thawed all the bloatware (Amazon Kindle, Blockbuster, City ID, NFS, Skype, Swype, and VZ Navigator).
Would my best bet be to do a factory reset, or is the update even worth getting?
Thank you.

root with care
Why would you not suggest updating?
This update contains a fix for the camera settings that I've been wanting.
Blocks rooting, and likely SBFing

Probably a bad idea to take this soak test if I rooted with SlapMyMoto, right? :/
i got an email as well. the closer to release the more hope for 4.4 root so i'm keeping my fingers crossed that soak test v2 moves along quickly so we can get an official full release.
Yeah they just sent me one as well I am already on 4.4 but here is hoping it's 4.4.2 if not my phone runs fine so no reason to update.
I got the invite too but don't want to risk losing root to participate... if I get the upgrade and lose root with no way to back down to 4.2.2 to re-root I'd be pissed.

I agree- I'm on rooted 4.2.2, although I did remove write protection because I was going to upgrade to 4.4 and keep root, just hadn't gotten around to re-flashing 4.2.2 then slapping it yet. I guess now I'll wait to see if there are any significant differences between this new soak test version and the last, and see if root can be maintained through the update process.
This new soak is for people on 4.2.2 to test if when they upgrade ota to 4.4 if the device will brick or is everything is straightened out. That was the big issue with the first soak so Matt and everyone is looking to see if they fixed that issue
Sent from my XT1080 using xda app-developers app
I didn't get the invite. I got the previous one, though.
Did anyone get both invites? I successfully updated to 4.4 on my first Droid Maxx, but the microphone went bad and I needed to get a replacement. The replacement bricked when I tried to install the 4.4 OTA, and I haven't tried it again on my 3rd Droid Maxx. It's registered and I've opted-in to MFN, though. But for now I'm still stuck on 4.2.2.

If it's the exact same update, you won't see the OTA. However it could potentially be a newer version of 4.4. If so, you should get it.
