I need to switch from T-Mobile to Verizon. I just simply can't handle the dropped data connection. Sure 4G might be fast on T-Mobile (in some areas I'm getting 5 mbps) but on campus where I'm at 90% of the time, I don't get data at all.
I've heard Verizon tops out at about 1.5 mbps. Can anyone here confirm or dispel that?
How does the Incredible stack up? I know new phones are on the horizon, but I saw that the Incredible S doesn't have much over the other phones already out. The HTC Thunderbolt is nice but it's also $249.99. The processors aren't that much different.
I do like the front facing camera. The Thunderbolt does have 4G though. So I was considering getting the Incredible now and then exchanging for the Thunderbolt when it launches. (I have 30 days exchange since I'm in California)
What do you guys think?
the processor is very different. it's 2nd gen and much more powerful. check out wirefly's presentation on the htc thunderbolt vs the evo. The thunderbolt destroys the evo.
I am a t-mobile convert for the same reason, except 50% of the time I didn't get any service at all.
The Verizon network, in my opinion/experience, is vastly more reliable than t-mobile's spotty coverage.
When I switched, I went to wirefly.com and got my incredible for $20 brand-new-in-box when I added a line to a family plan. The deal is even better if you sign up for a new contract; the phone is FREE.
I cannot say the same for the thunderbolt or iPhone. I owned an iPhone2g (orig), and the only feature I miss is the integration with iTunes seamlessly. But that's the only thing I miss (aside from the sleekness). I haven't had great experiences with Apples, but that could be entirely different for you.
The iPhone almost requires extra accessories off the bat, like an otterbox case to protect the back glass plate from shattering (which is common), and, of course, the "Antennae-gate" fiasco. Haven't heard if this was solved in the CDMA revision, haven't heard otherwise either.
It really all comes down to what you want out of a phone. The Inc and the iPhone 4 have been out for over 6 months, whereas the Thunderbolt is bleeding edge (New sense ui, new graphics processor, HUGE screen.)
P.S.: just to throw a wrench in your gears, look at the Incredible S. Can you say SEXAY??
I personally could not recommend the incredible cause it's becoming outdated fast. New sense ui, more ram, and better cpu are major improvements in the next batch of htc phones.
hell... being able to use htcsense.com with out a buggy desire z rom is worth waiting for.
I just completed my order for an HTC Droid Incredible.
Since I ordered today, I'll have until March 17th (February only has 28 days) to exchange it. I'm sure the Thunderbolt will be out by then.
If it isn't, I'll call Verizon and threaten to cancel my order and go to AT&T or something if they don't let me order a Thunderbolt to have that as my new phone.
Plus since I ordered with Best Buy, I get the Buy Back program for free!

You'll be able to trade out, and honestly (barring some ridiculous situation such as the T-bolt not lasting 2 hours on that battery or something else that would ruin its functionality) I would suggest doing it. The T-bolt's processor is LEAPS AND BOUNDS better than the Incredible out of the box, not to mention the ability to overclock to 1.7 ghz and remain stable. The GPU is very nearly twice as fast in the second-gen Snapdragon, and Sense 2.0 absolutely amazing as well. I love the Inc, its amazing compared to what I had (Eris), but the Thunderbolt (and upcoming Inc S) will be very nearly the same amount of improvement over the Inc.

no offence, but I hate that people do this. That's the exact reason VZW changed the return policy to 14 days, and I wouldn't be suprised if it decreases to 7 next year.
Yeah the Incredible is great, but it is becoming outdated, and VZW will stop selling in March I believe. The Thunderbolt seems nice, although slightly large. Just beware of those 4G costs. You never know the pricing The Big Red will put for that service...
Also the iPhone is nice option, if you dont want Android...
*Lets not make this a Apple bashing post btw guys.

No apple bashing. I just don't like them personally. lol
Honestly, I would own and use a Verizon iPhone 4, if it went on sale.
The screen is slightly smaller than the droid inc, but the pixel density is instantly noticeable...it's so rich and vibrant...
I think I would miss flashing roms WAY too much though, lol.
I personally switched to the Dinc from the Evo... the Evo was nice just rather large for day to day use ... the Dinc is a good phone I bought mine used online so no contract and able to upgrade when the new phones come out this summer

It's true that Verizons 3G typically tops out at 1.5 mbps. In my experience, its definitely good enough for web surfing, but really isn't great for tethering or downloading large files (videos, or app downloads etc).
yes, 2nd generation snapdragons are much more powerful than the 1st gen. Also, the gpu on the incredible isn't great so don't expect to play any graphic intense games.
I'd probably wait for a newer phone, they're right around the corner, unless you need one right now.

Apparently Verizon doesn't care what you think.
The lady from Verizon I spoke to said Verizon is HAPPY to let me exchange my device for the Thunderbolt if that's what I want, within 14 days.

I don't agree with this at all. I've tethered and Skype'd for 3 or 4 hours with no issues whatsoever with the speed. The quality was not as great as my home connection, but it was fine for having no other alternative.
The incredible is an excellent phone. In all honesty, it anybody on Verizon would do well to wait until June to upgrade to an iPhone if that is the route they choose to go.
Android is an excellent platform, but iOS has it's virtues as well. Just depends on the experience you are looking for.
In my opinion, the Thunderbolt is not enough of an improvement over the Incredible to wait on it. At a certain point you reach overkill.
I'm surprised at the lack of apple bashing till now. I switched to an iPhone and I am moving back to android. I have an iPad for all my iOS gaming needs. I am done with the incredible though and moving to a fascinate.
To be honest, wait and see what the iPhone 5 is going offer (next few months you should start hearing rumors) before making a jump. iOS is only getting better and will more than likely have many of the features of Android without sacrificing build quality.
Good luck with your purchase either way.

I switched from a first gen iPhone on Tmo to the Droid Incredible on Verizon. I agree the service is vastly superior and I seem to get signal almost everywhere (save for my ground floor apartment, but thats not their fault.)
I was a little disappointed when I first switched phones though , something about Android on the Incredible felt cheap and I couldn't place my finger on it. Then while loading Facebook one night I realized it was just because there was zero lag time between hitting the icons and the application loading up. Weird right? Something about having that loadtime on the first gen iPhone made everything seem a little more substantial.
But that's all in the past, love the flexibility of Android. That said, I've still yet to see an Android phone keep up with an iPhone when it comes to standby battery life. As for waiting for the iPhone 5 - seems like it'll be the 4G update (awesome) but nothing else substantial.
The Dinc is still a fantastic phone though. It's very quick for general phone use and web browsing, it just doesn't have the most battery conservative cpu nor does it have the graphical capabilities for upcoming games. It's a shame that Samsung seems so hellbent to not support their phones, otherwise those would be great as well.

The incredible is too small, I am tired of HTC and I didn't like the Droid X. I loved the fascinate in my time with it. I am done with ROM swapping. You all's opinions aren't the only ones that matter.
I'm glad you all like the incredible so much, but it'll be EOL in a few months. The next thing I want is the iPhone 5, so to sate myself till then, the fascinate will suffice. Thank you for your continuing support of my phone purchasing decisions. Philly, do you not have anything better to do then travel through this forum stating your opinions as truth? Other people are allowed to have opinions too big guy. Froyo has been on the fascinate for a while, it's been leaked. And in my experience with it, there wasn't lag. Biased much?
Again, this brings me full circle to an original point. Asking this question here won't net you honest unbiased opinions. There are too many people who feel too strongly about android to give you the whole story. Do what I did, get the iPhone and see if that's what you want. Return it and try an android phone, you may realize like I did that android is too lovable to leave. I love my iPad and I will love my fascinate. It's the best of both worlds in my opinion. (it's ok if I have one of those right Philly?)
I am currently due for an upgrade. I am curious from those who have owned or tried both which would be the better choice for me right now. I am interested in speed (don't need 4g yet though) and battery life mainly. I'm probably leaning more toward the inc2 but not sure it is really that much of an upgrade from my inc1 (which really still works perfectly for me if I can ever get it out of my little one's hands when i'm at home). Also, I really want a front facing camera to video chat with skype.

Have you looked at the new 4G phones coming to Verizon soon? They cost quite a bit, even with the 2 year contract, rumors are at 300. If you don't mind the expense, I think you should look at the HTC Rezound when it comes out...from the looks of it, it seems like you're interested more in HTC phones. But other than that, the Thunderbolt has notoriously horrible battery life, and though I've only ever held it a few times, it's really bulky, and there's a lot of other flaws about it. The Incredible 2, I have experience with. Those phones are the perfect screen size, 4", and they have decent battery life. If you're willing to spend the money, HTC Rezound, if not, you should go with the Incredible 2.
I do plan on sticking with HTC. I currently have 2 old eris phones running gsb4.0 for my kids and a inc1 running stock plus. Probably going to go with the inc2. I would love the rezound but probably won't be able to afford at full price (3 little ones - 5,6,11 - 6 year old just got type 1 diabete$:O(
I have an upgrade currently, so I will probably get the inc2 right now and another in july so I will probably get whatever is essentially EOL at that point as my NEW phone.
Aww man, I'm sorry to hear that. Hope things go well with your family!
And smart thing with the HTC phones, they're the best but yeah. The Incredible 2 will do you good, even though people say it's not much of an improvement, I think it's still pretty nice. Bigger screen, front facing camera, little bit faster processor, and it just feels nicer in the hand.

The Incredible 2 is an awesome phone! I have several friends that have it. I believe the only thing that stopped it from being a flagship was its lack of LTE support.
The inc2
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
If you want a solid phone I would probably get the Inc2, and though I am unsure how the Dev community is on the Inc2 I am guessing that the Thunderbolt has a larger one as it was once considered a flagship phone; saying that if you want some cool custom roms like the Inc has I would go with the Thunderbolt.
Hope this helps...
If I had to choose right it would be the TB because of the 4G and development. That bad boy would be rooted right away. However, being that you aren't concerned about the 4G..the Inc2 would be perfect. It has great battery life and as others have mentioned an ideal screen size.
I would sit tight on upgrading though because once these new phones come out, both the Inc2 & TB will plummet in price. Also, make sure you check out Amazon & Wirefly for deals.
I wish you and your family the best.
In my experience, the Thunderbolt's battery life is not that bad, at least, not as bad as I expected. From the way the blogosphere exaggerated how bad it was, extremely exaggerated. I expected like 2 hours with 4G on, but I get 4-5 horus with it on, have yet to try it with 4G off. But an issue I have which irks me terribly is if I lose the 4G signal, data disappears, so then I have to put it in airplane mode, turn airplane mode off, then turn mobile data off, and finally, turn mobile data on.
Then I tap back, back til I'm at the homescreen, still no data icon... Then menu, settings, wireless and all that, then tap mobile networks, and 4GLTE finally appears as soon as I tap "mobile networks". Very strange bug if you ask me...

Oh, and if you go with the Thunderbolt, get it off-contract! I got mines for $250 off-contract. WELL worth it!

thanks everyone for all the feedback and all the kind words. I will probably be getting the inc2. I will be holding out for the holidays or whenever I find a free or close to free deal with my upgrade. Maybe I will give it to my wife to give to me as a gift from the kids.
if you really wanna do the research, go to to the t-bolt forum, and the inc2 forum, and read what they have to say. i know that the t-bolt had a tough time being rooted, with a high chance of brick. I know this because i followed it for awhile attempting to root my mother's phone. which I backed out of. not saying it can't be done, but read up on them there. my choice, inc2.
I would go with the TB, but like it was said before, there are some pretty sick phones coming out soon. I'm waiting for the galaxy nexus
I would say just wait 2 more weeks until the galaxy nexus gets here.

I had an upgrade so I upgraded to the Atrix 4G.
I had a Samsung Captivate before.
How does everyone like the Atrix?
I've read/watched reviews all over the internet but
I want to know what xda thinks of the Atrix 4G, as a communtiy.
Thanks everyone.
Atrix is great phone and now with bootloader unlock its even better.
Have a look around.
Search forums as 99% questions are already answered and its already got ics rom.
Enjoy your new puppy.
welcome to the atrix fam. this phone is a beast. i feel like with the proper tweaking our phone out performs all these newer phones. as stated search the forums for answers, becuz some of the people here are just lurking around waiting to flame you. lol. otherwise enjoy
Performance is great, functionality is excellent with blur ROMs. MIUI, or other CM7-based ROMs are getting there. Friend has a Sensation whom i play Parallel Kingdom with, I'm OC'ed to 1500MHz and he underclocks for battery, he has to plug into a charger looong before I do. Definitely the best balance of power, features, and efficiency out there at the moment.
The Motorola Atrix 4G is by far the most underrated phone that I have ever seen.
It is as powerful as the SGS2, has got many more options compared to other phones(Fingerprint Scanner and lapdock), it was the voted as the best phone of 2011 by CES. I don't know why it didn't sell like bread as it is an amazing phone.
I don't understand what people mean when they say that the SGS2's screen completely blows that of the Atrix out of water as my gf has an SGS2 and it is not true.
The only two disadvantages of owning the Atrix is that Motorola sucks at updates and there are not as many devs working on our Rome compared to other devices but our devs are really awesome.

awesome! thanks for the feedback! I'm really stoked for my phone to get here!
Should be here about Tues. or Wed. then the adventure will begin.
I have a little experience developing on the Captivate so I'm hoping the Atrix won't
be much more difficult.

I just joined the community, so I am a noob, but I love my Atrix. I have had it for about 8 months now, and finally found the courage to root/unlock and go to the darkside. Talk about taking something sweet and turning it up to 11...

I used to have a Captivate before I had to get the Atrix. I took a swim in a pool with my Captivate in my pocket and after a week or so of letting it dry it still worked for around 6 months. Then one day it just shut off while I was using it and it wouldn't turn back on anymore so I picked up an Atrix from Best Buy for $50. I really do miss my Captivate at times. The screen was amazing compared to the Atrix screen. I also liked how thin and light the phone was. The audio quality was great too with some tweaks. I've thought about getting the SGS2 but I just can't pull the trigger. The Atrix records audio really well when capturing a video. At concerts there's barely any distortion from bass or anything. The Captivate wasn't that bad after tweaks but I've seen some videos with the SGS2 and the audio is just horrible. Other than that, the Atrix is a great phone.
i have upgraded from the cappy to the atrix also but still have both and constantly switching back and forth although id say the cappy screen was better i still love the processor speed and camera flash, plus dual cameras! i hope we get more devs workn on more roms though. all in all its a good phone a nd has louder speaker volume than my cappy.
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
I've registered just to say that the Atrix is an amazing phone and the CM team has made this phone even better than already is. I'd like to thank all the devs that have made this possible and are continuing to work on improving the phone's capabilities.
Atrix has supports similar to Captivate with added specification. Captivate has ICS (sweet if both will have) as advantage over Atrix.
I started reading this post and learned so many things immediately.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154600
I've been doing alot of reading and I'm pretty confident that dev-ing on the Atrix isn't gonna be too different from the Cappy so I'm pretty stoked for the future and glad to become a part of a great community.
Ok, so I am on Sprint. My data port recently gave out and they shipped me a replacement. I sold the phone for 180 and been looking to get a EVO 3D on craigslist. I started coming across some Nexus S 4G's. I wanted to know how do ya'll like the phone, performance wise and did anyone have a evo before and how did it compare. I have a chance to get this phone today because the sales of the EVO 3D's keep falling through or not getting any responses
Also, Is rooting good on this phone to?
I know 1 thing is that Ill really miss my kickstand but I just want something alittle different than what I have had
My NS4G is awesome , but really I love this thing, my friend has the 3D and a couple other friends have the OG Evo and my nexus is snappier than the OG Evo by far and its just a little quicker than the 3D. Rooting it is a breeze and you get to experience the development community of a nexus phone! Besides the Galaxy Nexus I think the Nexus S/4G has the most stable builds of ICS just from speculation of course lol
Had my Evo since day one ... loved it! Traded for the Nexus about six months ago. It is superior to the Evo for all my purposes, and I do like the size better. Even though I use a stock "ish" rom, being rooted gives a lot more freedom and choice. My guess ... you will like it a lot.
Awesome, thanks for the replies. I think Ill get it plus im getting close to the 14 day return where I have to send mine back anyway

Are you planning on getting it on contract? If so then I would just wait for the Galaxy Nexus to come to sprint, it just passed through the FCC and it shouldn't be much longer till it is released..... hopefully lol
Hey everyone,
I haven't really been around a whole lot these past few months in this section of the forum for my Dinc, just kind of been poking around and been really happy with CM7 then CM9.
Just wanted to thank anyone who I had interacted with on this forum and any people that I've helped. It's been a great community here with the roms, mods, and the like for the Droid Incredible. It's time for me personally to move onto the Galaxy Nexus. Just got it today and threw JellyBean on there and it's absolutely fantastic after having "essentially" traded my I/O GSM version for the VZW version with a friend.
Droid incredible was an absolute solid choice for my first Android phone. Got it pre-ordered so long ago and has done me a fantastic job these past years. Hope others are still enjoying theirs. See you over on the Verizon Galaxy Nexus section!
I can haz your old Incredible then? J/K. Enjoy. I looked at the display dummy Nexus and S3 and really really really want one of those but I can't bring myself to pay that much for a contract free phone that I probably won't be able to get fully working on Page Plus Cellular since they are 4G phones.
Congrats
Personally, I'm right on the edge of upgrading. DInc has served us all so well for these last 2 yrs. But the GNex is a solid upgrade and with JB coming out we want the latest and greatest.
So do u have the GSM version? I've heard that Vzw is often slow to update OS. Is it worth the extra $? If u flash a custom ROM, that shouldn't be a factor.
Lastly, I'd love to hear ur initial impressions and what you like new vs old. Maybe try to help convince us old schoolers its time to upgrade.

Yeah I would also like to how you like it since I am going to switch to the gnex in a few weeks when my contract ends.
