Streaming video from Galaxy s iii to Nexus 7 without wifi

I am curious.. I'm trying to save space on my Nexus 7 by putting all of my videos that i would want to watch on my nexus onto the SD card of my Sgs 3. I was curious if anyone knew of a way to be able to stream the videos while on the road from the sgs3 to the Nexus.
Im in the same boat here. I have all my movies in my 64gb card in my GS3 and i would like to access the files with my Nexus 7.So far i am able to do this but i have to use multiple apps. Here is the list:GS3 appsFoxFi (for bluetooth tether)aViaNexus 7PDANET for tablets (to connect to FoxFi via Bluetooth)MediaHouseFirst you will need to have a succesful bluetotth tether connection. Then share your media in aVia by setting the phone as a DLNA server. Once the media is being shared, launch MediaHouse on the tablet. You should see the phone information in Play From section. I hope this helps and im sure someone else will find a much easier way of doing this. The main thing i needed is to conserve as much battery and only access my media from my phone with my tablet without using another device outside of my GS3 and Nexus 7.

[Q] nexus 7 wifi direct?

Hello I'm new to the world of android but I was left to believe that all android devices had the ability to use WiFi direct but after getting the nexus 7 in the post yesterday I spent much of the night trying to get the nexus to send video to my TV and files to my Samsung galaxy s3 but all with no luck. they connected together but they just won't send files or video plus the WiFi direct icon in the drop down options is no longer there. Do I have a faulty nexus 7 or dose the nexus not have the** ability to use WiFi direct and if so will there be a fix for this problem? I no its a lot of questions but I'm stuck and I use WiFi direct a lot and I need this to work on my nexus 7 . so if anyone can help me I would be extremely grateful for your help. Thank you
AFAIK, the Nexus 7 doesn't support adhoc wifi, something to do with wpa_supplicant.
Nexus 7 needs software to support the this. Samsung wrote their own for S beam. Don't know of any third party apps that are compatible with s beam.
Check out https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.j4velin.wifidirect for one that should work.
Thanks for your help people but I have fund a fix for my problem of sending video to my TV from my nexus 7 . I remembered I payed for a app from Google play about a year ago called imediashare I had forgot I had it I did not even install it on my new phone. But last night I installed it on my nexus 7 and to my joy it worked I can now stream mp4 and avi video to my TV. I'm still looking for a way to send and receive files using WiFi direct on the nexus 7 but it I find one I'll post it here. If someone else finds a way to do it please let me know here thanks

Nexus 7 - OTG USB 1080P Movies

Hi guys, firstly apologies if this has already been covered but after using search I failed to find a fix.
OK so I firstly decided to purchase a nexus 7 after reading an article about the ability to root and use USB devices via an OTG cable. It sounded great and the idea was to put all my media on a USB stick and play via the nexus 7.
I'm happy with the nexus 7 its great, for the price its incredible however I'm having problems with one task in particular. When streaming HD movies from a USB stick itsnlaggy and jumps. I used vlc media player to play the files and I believe they were mkv's .
Anyone else have this problem or can suggest a way round so I can watch them? Besides lowering the quality of the movies?
Try using a different player, dice player, mx player, or bs player work fine for me. I haven't used vlc on android but have used it with my laptop and have had problems with playback of some mkv files.
in most case if one player doesn't work for the file, another player will work. I have 3 different players installed.
Cheers
Cheers guys il try some of the players listed, As this is my first Android device i didn't really know which Media player to use hence why i used to trust worth VLC as its brilliant on the PC. il let you know if your recommendation works

[Q] can't stream 720 over WiFi

Anyone done this successfully? I have tried dice, mx player and vlc. None manage to do it very well. Though all will play fine locally.
I know it's not the network. Even my crappy netbook can do it with vlc.
Any recommendations or thoughts? I'm thinking of a new kernel. Running slim bean now.
no one?
no one knows how? or everyone has the same problem?
some more info. i am streaming from a windows share.. windows 7 64bit which is hard wired 1gbit to router then streaming to nexus 7 over wifi N 150mbit.
just tried installing bricked kernel gave both cpu and gpu a mild overclock. seems to have helped in mx player though not in vlc.. though still expect better..
I do have the same problem.
Just like you said, my laptop is able to stream fine.
However, my tilapia has to wait 30 seconds for the initial buffering, then runs 20 seconds and stops for buffering again.
I'm considering buying another router to try it.
Would it make difference if you flash other kernels?

apparently there is a advanced wifi setting called optimisation that if you turn off it it streams better and the sacrifice of some battery life..
going to try it tonight.
kernel didnt help either did an overclock.

Me too. I guarantee its not my Asus RT66u router. My cell can do this fine. Even YouTube has buffering issues for me.
Streaming by DLNA or play directly from CIFS share?
DLNA has some limitations, like MKV with embedded subtitle or external subtitle file.
And DLNA need to encode on-the-fly if you changed output format.
After trying for few weeks, I've decided to use CIFS share solution.
Using EX file manager to browse my Win7 share folder and MX for player.
Both device are connected to Asus RT-N13U B1 w/ DD-WRT by WiFi(N).
It's smooth for 720P/1080P without lag.

I use a Windows Share. Browse through Solid Explorer to launch. As i said above lots of different Video players all dont work.
What ROM/Kernel are you using? Did you have the adv Wifi optimisation on or off?
Thanks!

Hi,
Nexus 7(2012) w/ Full stock 4.4 (Only root & unlock)
ES File manager + MX Player ( HW+ decoder )
Adv. WiFi Optimization is OFF
Win7 x64 share w/ anonymous RO access
EDIT: Have you verified network speed both side?
Looks like it was WiFi optimization! Turned it off and now no problems! Must be reducing the bandwidth to much to stab
Just out of interest can you stream 1080p too or just 720?
actually this turned out to be the windows share. apparently android cant get decent speeds with this.. changed to DLNA and smashed 1080p all day every day.
Even FTP gets great speeds.. windows share always sucks. (SAMBA/CIFS etc).
Thought i better post this just in case it helps someone.

Nexus Player & HDHomerun keep pausing

With the Marshmallow 6.0 update my Nexus Player has started to be able to play TV from the HDHomerun Prime(CableCard) but it will play for about 2-3 minutes and then pause. It does it in both the Live Channels and HD home run app. I have tried with the Nexus Player on WiFi and with an rj45 USB otg adapter. Anyone have any ideas?
I get exactly the same issue
Same here. I have a homerun hd connect and both nexus player and adt-1. Both connected over wifi. Stutters and stops after 3- 5 min. Anyone have luck with the nvidia shield? I don't want to invest more money into Android TV if this problem is going to exist on a more expensive player too. My guess is its due to the uncompressed stream size. Not sure if its the WiFi or processor. Any way to compress and retain near hd quality with the HD home run settings?
Im in your same boat. I use the hdhomerun connect setup over wifi to my nexus player. Live channels and hdhomerun view both scramble and stutter every couple of minutes for a few seconds. Every so often after a while it will freeze.
I have the plus/extend, I am not sure how different the connect is. However this is how I stopped my stuttering:
Open HDhomerun View
Press play/pause 13 times to enter setting page
Check Mpeg2 Hardware Decoder
Check H.264/AVC Hardware Decoder
Set Transcoded to H.264/AVC (HDTC models) to disabled
