Hi, everyone, I ordered my Nexus 10 and Hope everything is manufactured perfectly. These are the all the problems I read about here on Nexus 10 XDA Forums. I haven't received my Device and I Pray that I do not get any of these Problems and that any future Nexus 10 Buyers don't get it and that Early Buyers get it solved because this is Really a Headache in Purchasing Online that no one should have after paying $439 to $539, It makes people or is it just me? want to go buy New IPad with Retina Display. lol... I LOVE ANDROID and I LOVE GOOGLE btw..

Check multitouch, either via a free app (one that is specifically for developers is probably best) or the pointer location under developer settings. On my Nexus 10, anything past 2 finger input is unstable (appears, disappears, jumps across the screen, etc.).
Not 100% sure if it's worth returning the tablet or not still since... I'll probably never use more then 2 fingers at any point, but I'm pretty sure it's an isolated issue (I made a thread, but I think only 1 or 2 people confirmed it didn't happen to them).

Mine has a brightness issue. On the right side when in portrait mode (camera side) it shows a bit less brightness. Like a small shade. It's not that obvious on films or games, but it is a bit distracting when reading on white/bright backgrounds.
I've already sent a message to Google asking for a replacement.

Be sure to check WiFi connection and speeds as well. I have read a lot on the flakiness of some devices on 5 GHz bands. My device literally is 40x faster and no longer drops connection intermittently when set to 2.4 GHz only. I almost returned it, but decided that it isn't that big of a deal compared to some of the issues that others are experiencing.
Also, food for thought...I had to RMA my N7 when the screen deadzone issue came up. It didn't get really bad until after about 45 days, but I had no issues with customer support back in August. They happily exchanged it well after the 15 day window and asked if I wanted a refund or replacement, so I don't know if they changed that recently or what, but I guess YMMV.

I wouldn't go looking for problems, if it works fine then don't worry about things that MIGHT be wrong. If issues pop up, well, then get them addressed, but don't sit there all day going "Oh no, is it going to explode today?" No offense, but I think some spend more time looking for issues and worrying than actually enjoying their devices. As for mine, well, it's running along without issues, so I'm happy

My notification button is not working. Anyone with the same issues?
Skickat från min Nexus 10 via Tapatalk 2

I am having trouble with NFC. Android beam and NFC are both on but don't seem to work. I'm putting my Nexus 10 to the back of my Galaxy Nexus. I've used another nexus as a test and no luck.
I EVEN REPLACED THE DEVICE through Google Play support and no luck. Any thoughts?

so how did the tablet do ..was it good?

I have none of these issues. I don't have another device with NFC and so I couldn't test that, but everything about my model says well made. The light bleed is no more than on my old ipad2. I thinks its good you provide this list. I think we should look for problems. We spend a lot of money and want what we pay for. Nipicking begets improvements!!!

I had to RMA my nexus 10 today after maybe 30 min of use.
Half my screen, split longways right down the middle, went black. Not completely black, but much darker so much so that certain images, icons, etc on that half werent visible -- there was also ghosted images left in that half when you change screens so that you could still lightly see what was previously there.
Obviously a display issue, but contacted play support, did a factory reset which obviously didnt help, and just RMA'd it after that. At least the return was easy and theyre sending out a new one.

I just got mine and everything is perfect. I couldn't ask for a better tablet. Except a few reboots on the stock ROM and one so far on aosp+ no problems here. Haven't tested NFC yet. I'll test when I get my nexus 7 back.

@snoopyods
Might be a stupid question but did you put your NFC sensor from your galaxy nexus on the Nexus 10's NFC sensor? (it's located near the camera)

Almost all of the issues reported have a very small number of viewings and responses which shows that the reported issues are not a problem for the vast majority of people.

you really think by emailing support to "check your device before shipping" they will actually do it? haha... i feel sorry for you.
Its not like a one man show over there. Support is probably nowhere even near the shipping warehouse.

Hi all
I've not managed to USB otg (does not detect a stick or power a usb mouse)or HDMI out (no feed to TV) working, I've ordered replacement cables (although the originals weren't cheap).
I'm concerned that it might be my N10 and not the cables.
Anyone's had issues like this.
EDIT: It was the cable, had USB stick, mouse and PS3 controller over OTG cable. And playing and watch stuff on TV via HDMI. Very cool!

Why do you recomand to check the screen with black and white background with different light level plzzz ???
Has any body can notice a litlle bit of vertical lignes on white background on screen ??? Is this normal ????
Thank's. Anyway i just have a little light bleed not importante but these line .... Hum mm... Not very noticiable. You have to watch very well

OMFG received mine from US 2 days ago ... Im in Colombia and have the problem loud low pitched sound with low light (discovered on the bathroom while ehem...reading haha) high pitched low sound with brightest screen level ...fortunately the tablet came with damaged corner apparently from a fall to the floor so im getting a compensation for the total price of the tablet from the ups subsidiary company..and get to keep it... since none of your tablet fell to the ground im now assuming fall is not the reason of screen screech ....RMA its out of the question... Will there be another solution toy this? Im watching vídeos of n10 dissasembly and its very easy...or should i just let it be since apart from the noise the tablet works flawlessly and im getting all of the money back??
PS sry for my english...

Mine suffers from:
- Bad WiFi
- light bleeding
- multitouch issue
- bad led notifications
I should play the lottery...

Camera issue
I have a problem with my camera. It worked out of the box for a day or so and didn't anymore after the update (maybe it's not even related). I reverted back to JOP40C, it didn't work. I tried CM10.1 it randomely worked for a few days, then didn't work again. Does anyone else have the same problem? I'm hardly using the camera but it just sucks not to be able to fully use my device. Thanks in advance for your help.

Have you tried "led color tester" from the app store? I had never seen my led before using this software. Turns on all colors, no problem... So it seems like it is more of a software issue.

Screen Burn-In >>BEWARE<<

Greetings fellow Tab 7.7 Owners.
Today I stopped by the Verizon store to check on an issue I previously posted regarding the proximity sensor (I do not there there is one installed in the i815 despite the Samsung website claims to the contrary).
So anyway, I picked up the Tab 7.7 on display and opened the market to install an app that uses the proximity sensor (it did not work BTW).
!!! However... !!!
While in the Market, big as life, I could easily see the home screen image burned into the display. I opened several other apps and all had the same effect. I even rebooted the device to see if it might be some software bug that was ghosting the image somehow, but the problem persisted. The home screen is simply burned into this device. Now this probably stays on 24 hours per day however, I was surprised to see that modern devices could suffer from this ancient problem.
So...
If you leave your device plugged in for some time, be sure to let the screen time out. (Settings>Applications>Stay Awake> leave unchecked)
I just decided to get rid of both of my Samsung docks I purchased.

All of my amoled devices have burn in and they are all set on lowest brightness. I try to minimize the burn in on my p6800 by hiding the status bar.

SAMOLED is different with your LED backlit IPAD display.. it's not a matter of Cheap Vs Apple premium, if your IPAD have the same AMOLED screen, even thought it's an Apple, it'll exhibit burn in issues as well.
Strange that my tablet is on all day as my desktop clock and live album and gaming/movie at night, but still no burn in appeared yet (except that mystical faint circles that every unit has). I think you could just take yours to local service center and spill all your guts out to force them to have screen replaced. Just my little two cents.

crap argument of an apple fanboy: ipad uses IPS-LCD, 7.7 features AMOLED (hd plus blabla).
in contrary: amoled is the FAR more expensive tech, although it tends to burn in (which is tech immanent and can't be eliminated totally)!
inform yourself before posting such nonsense!
Hi boys.
Maybe we should shut this thread down. No need to start a pointless flame war.
My only intention was to let people know that the screen burn-in on this device can certainly happen as I saw it very clearly on the in-store demo unit.
I just thought people might want to know so you can moderate your usage patterns to avoid the problem.

Oh I read yours wrong...I thought you said YOUR unit has burnt-in.
Nevertheless I think your post should remain open. I'm quite amazed that how quickly someone would jump into any post to compare Apple's product against everything, just to be shot by facts. This isn't bad at all.

Things to check when my google nexus 7 arrives to make sure everything is fine in it?

Hya,
I'm new on here , so please be easy on me with my question  . I recently purchased Google nexus 7 tablet from some local website who asks the customers to report any defect with in one day, only then they will ship new product :crying: , So I'll get one day for checking . Since Google hasn't launched Google nexus 7 tablet here (India) officially, so I'm getting the imported one, website support peoples even ain't aware of how to get warranty if product gets turned in to black box .
I saw some q/a here and I found many peoples having problem with product (related hardware ones) . I'd be thankful if you guys could list some basic things to check pertaining to hardware of product to make sure everything is fine
Hi, I'm on my 5th replacement and everyone had a different fault!
First you want to check round the edge of the screen to make sure the glass is flush with the case and not raised up so you can push it down with your finger, If anywhere the problem is normally down the left side. (DON'T TRY TO REPAIR IT YOURSELF WITH THE SCREW FIX TUTORIALS!) In most cases the fix is just temporary and the problem returns. This is a defect!
The next thing you want to do is check for dead pixels & white light bleed out around the edge of the screen. This app is perfect for the job.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.ujacha.deadpixel
Next you want to check the speakers by cranking them up to 100% and play several video or audio files to check for crackling/distortion/popping.
It's well known that the speakers are very cheap but they should still be crystal clear with the volume at it's highest.
Now you want to check the touch screens response. There is an issue with the screen not responding after heavy processing/game play where the screen becomes unresponsive down one half of the screen and only locking/unlocking the screen solves the problem.
First I would advise hammering the N7 with a game that is Tegra 3 supported for example Dead Trigger or Shadow Gun to get it nice and hot if at any time the screen becomes unresponsive then you have the same issue.
To double check run this app, you should quite easily be able to detect all ten fingers on the screen at all times.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.the511plus.MultiTouchTester
The last thing I would check is the connectivity through Wi-Fi & Bluetooth, this is the least common fault as far as I know. Just check you have nice strong signals with no drop outs.
So after all that if you have managed to put a tick in all the boxes I reckon you have a sweet device!
I hope this helps you and any one else out there and that you have more luck than I had finally getting a perfect working N7.

Great question (although I don't know if it's a dupe). Thanks for all the info mr_tris. That sucks you're having so many issues. I haven't noticed anything wrong with mine since I got it yesterday, but I'll check all the things you mentioned when I have the tablet in front of me.
Billy
@mr_tris jeez!! 5 replacement means something and very horrible so to speak . I really appreciate help and advises you posted. I'll make sure to check them out .
The only problem I'll have if found any problem in device is that I'll have to wait another 20 days since the new product will be imported by website peoples for me to make replacement
One other thing to check: the gyro.
Does the screen rotate normally or do you have to turn the device so the screen is practically vertical (assuming you choose to unlock rotation via the notification panel).
If you are into gaming, try a driving game or something to make sure the cars don't veer left or right.
I had this trouble on my second one and have read of quite a few other people having the same problem.
The only real issue I've heard about is the screen raising above the bevel some. Yea this is a defect as the screws are too long and pushes the screen out. Returning it 50 times isn't going to fix it. Only by chance may you get one where the screw is slightly smaller (1mm). The solution is to make a little washer out of some plastic and put it under the screw. It doesn't need much to fix it. The cover pops off just like a regular battery cover and the screws are right there. If it is a problem for you, why NOT try to spend 2 min and just fix it yourself?
You wouldn't even notice unless someone pointed it out. You literally have to turn the N7 and look across the screen to even notice it. Hardly anything to freak out about.
Some people have blown their speakers already too. Most have been after a long session of movie watching or music. I suggest to not blow your speakers out (using at Max volume for extended periods) right out of the box. Let the speakers break in first. Honestly the speakers are so loud anyway that I normally have it at 50% volume Max. Probably not an issue either but its good usage practice.
I've also heard of one or two screens fritzing out with lines and fades. Probably nothing to concern yourself with.
I haven't heard of anything else but I guess it would always be best to check it out thoroughly.
I do recommend unlocking first thing because it wipes all data including storage and saves. I'm using EOS rom and its heavenly. Trinity kernel is also awesome because he tweaks the colors of the screen to pop more.

Most important things are:
Screen - check viewing angles and color reproduction in the dark. Best reference is to use a site like GSMARENA for high res photos and screen reviews.
Body - Look for cracks or scratches, especially around ports and the headphone jack.
Things to disregard:
Slow system - this is just something you will have to deal with in an android environment.
Warm after prolonged use - again, normal.

I wish I could have that attitude about my electronic devices. It would be a shame for someone to find a defect after the 15 day return grace period just because their device might be OK and they never bothered checking it. You must have spare money to burn. :what:

No I don't have money to burn lol but I just don't think its worth the stress of over examining for defects. If you look hard enough you will see that something isn't 100% straight or a tiny spec of plastic is sticking out or whatever and then it will stand out like a sore thumb once you've noticed it lol. Give it a glance over and if it looks good to you then enjoy your tablet.

Nexus 7 3G Defects - here!

Hello people!
As we all know the nexus 7 32gb 3G has shipped!, This is for everyone who has the Nexus 7 -3G- version only!
Do you have an issue with anything of your nexus 7 components (screen issues - build issues - speaker, etc ...) that are found on the previous builds of the nexus 7 non 3G ?
Did you guys find something that you like or you feel is better than the one with the previous build or non 3G (if you own a non 3G nexus)
like say, Faster, snppier, better graphics, performance etc ..
Sorry for my not so bad English
Just had 2 3Gs arrive to replace my old 16Gb wifis
Both perfect in every way, (Saying that so were my wifis)
Only comment is (Are google trying to get apple to sue them over the sim removal tool!!!)

Oh the reason Google are stating that Cases for the wifi nexus 7 are not compatible with the 3G version is that the Mic has moved due to the microsim slot so the flap on the cases covers trhe mic on the 3G version.

This seems a little pessimistic to me. Why assume they are going to have tons of defects? Won't google/asus have learned from the mistakes they made with the early wifis?
I didn't mean to be pessimistic at all .. just scared of that feeling when you wait so badly for that shiny device that you ever wanted but only to figure out that you have to sooooo lucky to get a (well-made) one without any defect !! I hate QC.
i see the need for this very much,
i just got the 32gb wifi only and maaaann.... the feel to the tab is just...different like the back panel feels...better i cant really explain it the unit feels heavier too.
Got mine this-morning. No defects at all. Why would you expect any? The Wifi version has been out for ages so any major defects would have been caught long ago by the early adopters.
The only "defect" per-se is deciding what the best deal on a SIM card is... 3 is probably the best network... but what one to order? All rather confusing for a poor old mouse brain.

I got mine last night. It has some backlight bleeding and also has these funky faded streaks (hard to explain) on a black screen these streaks give the blacks a washed out appearance. I compared it to my 16GB N7 which I got in Aug and I didn't notice these streaks but do have backlight bleeding on that one. I'm actually getting it replaced for these streaks but I've come to expect and even accept(as long as it's not horrible) backlight bleeding on Asus tablets. Having owned the TF101 (3 of them) the TF201(3 of them) and the infinity I have not came across a single one that didn't have some backlight bleeding to an extent or another. Some having it much worse while others maybe having just a small spot in the corner. But I honestly have not seen a single one (mine or a friend's) that didn't have backlight bleeding to some extent.
Mine has some very slight backlight bleeding, but nothing I'd complain about. Unfortunately, it does have the blown speaker issue...so an RMA replacement is on its way.
I bought a 2nd Nexus 7 3G version and all the issue of my 16gb WiFi are gone... The main problem the light flickering which is gone totally, also the screen is now flat with the bezel finally.

Mine is fine overall. There seems to be some slight backlight bleeding on the left side of the screen, but not major enough to RMA.
Speaker sounds fine too as far as I can tell. The only "issue" I think I can report is that when my tablet has been sleeping for a long time, the mobile data will cut itself back on if it's off. At least the mobile data works though. Anyone else experience this?

I forgot to mention that I have noticed my screen flickering a bit when in 'auto', and depending on the ambient light. It's almost like the screen can't decide where to set itself and is bouncing between 'levels'. The problem seems to go away completely when I just turn off the auto lighting and keep it at minumum (which is how I usually use it). Is this the screen flickering problem everyone keeps talking about?

Just got my replacement an hour ago. Body creaks less, bezel appears slightly more even (although the old one was really even to begin with), and speaker sounds MUCH better. Only slight buzzing from the 'notification' volume bar, default tone, at max. Everything else sounds clear. I'll have to watch the screen to see about flicker. I have noticed it switching levels, but haven't noticed it flicker yet. It also appears to have less light bleeding. So far so good...
Ok guys - I need an opinion. I've had some time to play with my replacement N7, and noticed some odd things. I ran the battery down last night just to make sure it wasn't a dud - got about 10hrs of video (minimum brightness, sound down). It's not as good as my first one, but I don't consider it a dud. However, after it died, I plugged it in. A half hour later, I tried to power it on to collect the batter logs (simple battery logger), and it wouldn't power on. I pressed the power button for 5 sec each time, nothing. No white battery charging logo either...just unresponsive. I kept trying and it finally booted. I think I had to hold the button for 10-15 sec - and the battery was charging and at 10%. Never happened like that with my old one - just a consistent 4 second press to power on. Does this thing need 10% before it will power on? Reading the forums, the power on issue seems to be common. Should I be worried about this? Should I just keep my original unit even though the speakers are bad? I really don't want to end up in the endless replacement loop. Do others here have occasional power up glitches?

Nexus 10 defects

Hello guys ! I'm trying to compile a list with all issues found so far in this tablet. My aim is to make a quick-check guide for people, like me, who will buy it from a local retail store and need to know what to look when checking the device in the store in order to avoid returning it later and for all other future buyers. I'm also curious if, statistically, defects are more or less rare than Nexus 7's (I exchanged two before finally giving up and waiting for this tablet).
So, vote in the poll and, if you please, describe the issues you encountered or just add a quick comment.
Thank you
[EDIT]
List of things to check when buying your brand new Nexus 10 :
Backlight bleeding - check it on 100% and 50% brightness on a black screen and see if it's acceptable to you
Dead/stuck pixels - check it in a dark environment, using 100% brightness and solid color backgrounds (use specialized apps like Dead Pixel Check, a ~100kb download)
Well, I I received my Nexus 10 on Friday and rooted it on Saturday morning, bueno now I have to send it back! Nfc does not work and the light sensor works when it wants to

My charger died. I need to get a replacemant
Have you tried something like AndroSensor for the light sensor ? It reads all the sensors from your device and outputs their values. You can check for erratic behaviour with it. How does this defect manifest itself anyway ? Unwarranted changes in backlight intensity ?

After a quick scan of this forum it seems that backlight bleeding is a common problem. So I'll add it to the first post on the quick-check-before-buying-list. Dead pixels could be an issue but the chances of noticing 1 dead pixel on a 300 ppi display are really slim, unless viewing the screen in a dark room with a specialised app ... and having Superman vision.
On my first Google nexus, Google gave to me... 1 dead pixel and some light bleed.
On my second Google nexus, Google gave to me... dust under the screen and worse light bleed.
On my thirds Google nexus, Google gave to me... nasty yellow light bleed and a stuck grey pixel. Oh and the seals were broken on the box, nice..
I've still not had a single return postage label yet either! Right now I have 3 defective Nexus 10's in my living room, wtf!!!!
That's it, nuff's enought, I've asked for a refund this time.
I'll see how they are in a few months when the stores start selling them.
Nice device but im not paying £400 for a defective unit. I really hope they iron out the defects as nothing else tablet wise appeals to me now.

Funny!
So right now you have 1200 British pounds invested in Nexus and a healthy stock of 3 (not-so-healthy units). Not bad. Anyway, updated info in first post with dead pixels.

Received my nexus 10 two days ago and i think i might be on the same roll as you! I videotaped the unpacking and posted on my blog. Can't post link but you'll find it on the first page if you google search 'seanxz nexus 10'.
I wouldn't be surprised of a massive recall by google in the next few months or so. This is garbage QA!
My nexus box had both seals in tact and I had a couple dust particles trapped under the protective film.

So you suspect that your Nexus has been refurbished or something like that ? It is possible for particles to be trapped when factory applying the protective film. I see that all the time on cheaper chinese LCD products.
The back cover is now creeking, seems like there is a gap of a fraction if a mm. ARGHHHH!!

Nexus 10 yellow blotches on screen
I'm having the exact same problem on a year old nexus 10, that is a central pale yellow brown stain most visible on a white background.
It looks like a nicotine stain as if some heavy smoker had been handling the screen. Initially I thought the screen protector had yellowed so I removed it but no improvement at all.
Have others seen this problem? Any solution?
Not a solution but the problem is down to the individual colour LEDs
Additive colour: red + green = yellow. Yellow + blue = white
Going to bump this thread, I just recently purchased a used Nexus 10 from someone and have this same issue, short of sending this to get repaired (out of warranty) is there any known fixes?
I have looked all over and have not found anything, the only viable thing I found which was Display Control by franciscofranco does not work on the Nexus 10.
Any information would be appreciated.
Screen Yellowing
I've got the same issue of the screen turning a kind of dirty yellow on about 75% of the screen. I bought it on first day of sale release. I think the it's been yellowing for about 2 months or so. Also have gotten a significantly shorter battery life in the last couple of months or so. Thinking of putting in a new battery. Great unit. Getting kind of kludgy though. I have to keep killing apps that start up and run on their own.
Screen burn or whatever
Same happened to my original Nexus 10 after about 6 months. Now the replacement is doing the same, again after about 6 months!
I am wondering, how this could happend. My Nexus is over an year old and I couldn't find a yellow touch on the screan. What is the normal using scenario od your Tablet ?
I have the same problem with my Nexus 10 21 months old. Any solution?
Ive had mine for close to two years now, same issue. I even sent mine to samsung during the warranty period, but they are full on retard. They “updated“ the software then sent it back. They wasted just about 2 months of my time to do that.
I try my hardest to just ignore it nowadays.
Same boat for me.. Yellow tinge right where I see it..
Fine with videos and black background... Not been left on as always had it screen off after a minute of no use...
Just been usual usage over the last two years..I must admit..lots of usage each and everyday but what pisses me off is my TF101 screen which is two years older almost and still OK...
Seems there is no screens around as well as been hunting high and low on the net..
If you have this problem head to the google groups page and post so that others know..
