[Q] Downloading book via email - Nook Touch General

Quick question that I can't seem to find the answer to using search:
If I root my nook, I can read my email (gmail). If I email myself an epub, can I download it to the rooted nook and read it?
And correct, there is no way to do this without rooting (emailing books is a nice feature of a kindle).
Thanks!

Yes but all methods require that you root your NST.
And if you choose to root your device, be sure to make a backup FIRST!
And make sure your backup file is ~1.82GB .. if less then you did it wrong!
I cannot emphasize this enough, every week we see one or more totally bricked Nooks because people either failed to make a backup, or did it wrong, and when you total it, well, it cannot be fixed unless you return it to B&N, simple as that!
OK, thanks; I figured I'd have to root it.
Does rooting remove the B&N reader software?
Would I then have to install a 3rd party ereader?
Does it basically become an AOSP android device?

Leaves all of it there. Though if you wanted to, you could install another reader app.
I tried using ADB over wifi to push epubs and while they copy fine and appear in the Library app, the reader app can't access them. I asume because the file ownership is wrong? Aldiko opens them fine.
Any way to fix this?
Check this thread once you have rooted your nook.

You can use Calibre to wirelessly sync your books to your nook.
Need to have Calibre on your computer and on your Nook.
I use dropbox with dropsync. You csn have it check for changes and sync or manuakly sync. It works great!

Thanks for the suggestions, I tried Renate's adbsync tool but still have the same issue with the Nook's stock reader not being able to read the file. Wondering now if it's down to the particular root tool I used - loney's "UK 1.2.0 Glow ONLY TFU Software Upgrade"
I imagine Calibre would work fine but I'm happy with the stock reader for now and don't need to sync a lot of files - doing them manually with adb push isn't an issue.

What firmware version was on your nook before you rooted?
loney's rooting tool is for UK Nook's with fw 1.2
if you have a US Nook glow or non-glow with fw 1.2 then root with Tinynoot.
if you have a US Nook glow with fw 1.1.5 then root with Glownooter

It's a UK nook that came with fw 1.2. Have now realised that after a reboot the stock Reader can access the files, will carry on investigating.

Kindle Fire Android Market place accounts

I used the Kindle Fire Utility to install Android Marketplace.
Works like a charm - thanks.
I entered the wrong Google account e-mail when I signed into the Google marketplace for the first time.
There don;t seem to be a way to add a second account or delete the one I logged in. I don;t see a way to log out?
Any way to install multiple accounts? Log out of the account I am in so I can log into another account?
Thanks in advance.
Did you try deleting accounts.db from " /data/system/"?
I cannot even find that.
I browsed the drive - even did a search and no .db files
Thanks
Do you have adb setup?
if so, do
Code:
adb remount
adb shell rm /data/system/accounts.db
If not, you will need something like Root explorer. ES File explorer (free on the market) could likely do it to, but takes a bit more setup to put it in root mode.
Note: Not sure what you mean by searched the drive. The file is not on your SD card.
Kind of a noob still, but I got you now.
I took another route, Restored to default.
RE-rooted - reinstalled marketplace.
Used right email.
Working.
But are we stuck with only one account on Kindle? Do I have to do what I did to use another account or use the account.db Erase method?
If so that quite sucks.
No you can add more accounts. But I am not on a stock based rom, so I can not provide specific details. I know you will need to open "Account & Sync" settings. There is not a shortcut to do it on a stock based rom.
I know you can download a app from the market to help you do this, Quick Sync Settings, I think?
I will check it out then, thanks!
DUDE!!! totally worked. I was able to ad more account then when I go to the account setting in market place it allows me to pick which one I want.
YOU ROCK!!!
Awesome. Glad I could help.

[Q] How to disable gmail/google auto-sync on rooted Nook (TouchNooter)

I have a Nook Touch successfully rooted with TouchNooter (loving it!).
Only problem I've run into is that I'd like to disable the auto-syncing in gmail because I don't want the device going out and fetching emails for me unless I request it. There is no 'Accounts' option in the settings (tried the NookColor all settings option) and when I go into Gmail, Accounts, and then Account Settings, the Nook seems to crash and reboots.
Is this a known bug or is there another method of doing this?
(I have searched the nook section and development section AND the thread on TouchNooter. I would have posted this in that thread but apparently I don't have enough posts yet, but I'm not new and have been reading here and modding my Droid 3 for MONTHS, just don't post much.) Thanks in advance.
it is crashing because of /data/system/account.db, if you rename it it won't reboot - but it brakes B&N registration. I believe, you should be able to rename it, disable sync and rename it back.
you can find some details in this thread starting this post

[Q] Any idea why I can't get certain books to show in my library

I have quite a few NOOK Read To Me books that will not show up in my library. I have CM7.2 with the latest version of the Nook app from the Play Store. I can buy other books fine and they download immediately, but not these. Any idea why? The device is registered with the same account that I'm using for the app.
I paid for these books and actually can't download them onto the PC and transfer them (they say the item can't be downloaded from a browser).
Any help is appreciated.

I don't think the read to me books work on the nook android app. I think you have to be on the stock reader.

Read to me books can only be read on the bn stock firmware. Hope you still have stock firmware on emmc. To see the read to me books on the android bn reader app, go to first drop down box, press "all items", select "everything else". You will see all your read to me books, but you will not be able to open them. Has to do with bn proprietary software and adobe air. If you have cm7.2 in emmc you can put bn stock firmware on SD or internal alternate boot.
Any way to download/save them and re-flash cm7.2?

No. Once you have BN stock firmware set up either on SD card or emmc you can sign into your BN account and re-sync the device. You will then be able to see your purchased items. Look at LeapinLar's tips thread to restore BN stock firmware. You have several options on where you put the stock ROM and cm7/10.

[Q] Rooted Nook remotely reboot, plus problems with market

I did root today and got couple of problems. For some reason Android Market search function not working. I am able to browse and install apps, but when I try search window, nothing happens.
Another more serious problem, when I have been exploring seetings meny, Nook has been reset with message - "There was a problem with authorization. Please wait while we reset your device". I undrestand reset was done by NB, but have no found any answer what I did wrong.
I did search internet for both questions but have not found any solution.
I have NOOK Simple Touch with GlowLight: 1.2.1. Root was done with Glownooter 1.12.25

Read this forum instead. Both answers are to be found on XDA.
- root using 'NookManager'
- use NTGAppsAttack to get market [google play]
- to search for apk's in the market you need to use 'youten.redo.searchmarket' apk
Read 'developers forum' before asking another question. I know it's a mess but 99% of all answers are there.
Regarding the unexpected reset.
Have you registered the device after 1 boot or have you rooted it before doing that?
I'd unregister my device, register it again and then change kernel and disable B&N apks to block communication between NST and B&N.
If it would not work i'd blame google play.

I did tryied to search, but found that you have to read all the threads instead to get answer. There was no specific topics.
I saw NookManager, but have not found pros and cons comparing with glownooter and decided try last one. Is there any feedback on ZeroLab Nooter zerolab.net
I registered my device before rooting. I erased previous owner info, registered myself, backed up, then applied root.
Feedback
After connecting Nook to PC and downloading few books on SD card in epub format, when disconnected from USB cable, I got back android screen that appeared before applying market fix, i.e. Android Welcome Screen skip Sign In etc..
Any ideas what happens?
The search issue is a known issue with the version of market being outdated (not Play Store).
The second issue can happen if you made a backup deregistered and then restored the backup. It happens when the authkeys on the nook become different than the ones on the BN server and so your nook is forcefully deregistered to fix any issues.
