[Q] N7 doesnt like importing video from memory stick - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ive got the OTG cable and Media transfer prog for my N7
It can download any pics I want onto the N7 OK but I have some short video clips that I want to transfer from an SD car onto my N7 via a USB/SD card adapter.
The N7 can see the videos on the SD card but when I try to transfer a video onto my N7 it only loads a few seconds then stops with an error message.
The few seconds of video transferred onto the N7 curiously plays OK.
Ive tried converting the vidoe into several other video formats but still with no luck.
Any ideas

Problem copying over large file to 2 gig card.

Hey, I'm having a problem copying a 300 megabyte wmv file from my computer to my 2 gig stick. Whenever it gets to about 5~10% goes back to 0 and starts again, does anyone have this problem? Or, does anyone know what's the matter?
Thanks!
BTW, my card is a 2 gig MiniSD on my Cingular 8125.
i havent tried this.. dont use my phone much for music and video, mostly just all data... but is it going through activstink? if so is it converting the file? and 300meg file going through the phone takes a while, i would try using your mini sd adapter and a card reader and connect it to your pc and just copy it over that way
Oh, thank you for the reply, I'll try to directly transfer it from PC to stick instead of through activesync. No, it says conversion (none) so I assume it is not converting. I will see if I can plug the stick into my computer.
Btw, when I remove my stick should I power off my 8125? Almost everything is installed into my stick.
Edit: Nope, , there is no place on my computer for me to plug my stick directly into.
no need to power off... and you should have gotten an SD adapter for your mini SD card. after putting the mini sd card into the SD adapter then would need a SD card reader which are very inexpensive to acquire if you dont have one already. then plug the reader into the computer, the computer should recognize it as a removable storage device. just drag and drop...
Alright, thank you! Yes it did come with an adapter. Is there anyway to copy large files through activesync?
you should be able to.. but with my experience it just takes forever... i copied my iguidance map for a friend one time and its 600meg... took 30 minutes to complete. I only copy large files via the adapter nowadays
Yeah, I don't mind waiting 15-30 minutes, it's just that it resets itself and I have no idea if I can ever get it on my phone via activesync.
Edit: I'm trying a different method, right clicking the file and going to send to.. then selecting device, then they prompt me to choose the destination within the device, so far so good. I'll edit again if it's successful or not.
SUCCESS!!
WM5Storage
I use WM5Storage instead, for large files. Works better and faster, than ActiveSync.

Media cannot be played

I previously had a Moto Droid and was able to connect it to my USB port in my car and play media "Music" from the sdcard. Now with my Incredible it tell me media cannot be played or read. I believe this is because of the dual mounting when connected it tries to mount two storages at once. Anyone else having this problem or maybe and solutions to fix this???

mine kind of did the same thing, I put my songs on the internal memory and my pioneer wouldn't find the songs, I had to put all my music on the micro sd card and it worked fine after that. not sure if that would work for you or not but it worked for me, so if you haven't tried that yet it is worth a shot.
i have actually tried both and still no luck. I even tried removing SDcard and had Music on internal storage only and still a no go. But it seems to read the sdcard momentarily and seconds after it says media cannot be played.
All my media is on the sd card. No problems with playing via USB/AUX connections in my vehicle...
finally figured it out. for some reason I had to give my friend my sdcard and had him format it in his nexus one. then put music back on it and this time it was able to read the media. finally

Watching Videos From SD Adaptor?

Could someone tell me if you can watch videos directly from the SD card in the SD Card adaptor for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9? If so does this also work from third party video players such as moboplayer?
Anyone know?
I dunno about GT 8.9 or SD adapters but I watch videos loaded on my microSD card that is inserted in my GT (7") all the time, with any of several video players, including moboplayer...
Yes, that works on my 10.1. All video players can access files on SD cards as well as USB drives (with adapter).
Yes it works.
You may also be able to read from the External Storage Device under:
Galaxy Tab 10.1: /sdcard/usbStorage/sd[a-z]
Galaxy Tab 7.7: /sdcard/extStorage/sd[a-z]
Most media player which supports scanning SDCard Directory will be able to playback the videos on them; Default Video player can do so as well.
Oh, and the USB and SD card adapters will not work on the older 7" tab. I think someone was trying to get those working but not sure if there was any luck.

If your running a sense rom,its a bug in the sense OS,if your sd card is over 16GB for some reason, some thing wont show up or even disappear.
After doing more research, I got the new card on ebay. I'm assuming I got some cheap p.o.s. That isn't going to work properly.

it might be how you are transfering the movies. if you are using a sd adapter for card slots it might not allow you too write files, especially big ones ( 1 gig plus.) I had to buy a r/w sd adapter for mine cuase it constantly failed transfering.
I'm just using a usb cable and mounting phone to computer. It worked perfectly with the factory 8gb card. I don't know if I'm running a sense rom. I'm using swagged out. I believe. I reinstalled the 8gb card and working fine now. if it is a rom issue how do I fix that, or will making the card be seen as 16gb work, if its possible.

couple things it could be. The first is obviously if you bought the card on ebay, it's highly likely it's a fake. It's very easy to take a 2gb card, paint a number 3 on it, and make it look like a 32gb card.
Second, the files need to be under 2gb for the stock movie player to play them.
Also, you said you converted to mp4, that's not a format, just a container. What matters is the codec used, which should be h264 baseline codec.
Im using a DVD converter. Ive had 2 of the movies on the 8gb card and worked fine. just after the new card they dont work now. all my movies so far are under 2gb. i was able to get 1 of the movies onto the SD but no more. im assuming i got a fake 32gb card, which would make sense, 1 movie about 1.5gb, plus some apps and pics. try 2nd movie and "NO". gonna try and get my $$ back and return it. then actually go buy a real card. thanks guys...

Tablet stops responding when copying music.

Hey
Wanted to copy my music folder to my tablet so I draged and dropped the music folder and it copied for a while then it says that the usb device has stopped responding. So I had to disconnect and connect.
Now I have to copy like 20-30 folders and repeat doing that and after a while it gives the same error again so i have to disconnect and connect again and start copying again.
It have taken me several hours just to copy 12 GB music. Is there any fix for this? Copy to different usb devises and my phone works good.
I want to copy some movies to the tablet too but I have a feeling it's going to be a hell doing that...
I don't have the best answer but can tell you what I did. I decided to use an external micro SD card instead and copied everything to it in a card reader and then put the card into the tablet. I am using a cheapo 32gb class something card I found at Fry's.
I had decided to take the tablet out of the mix early on because my rooted Xoom tablet does the same thing after copying over a bunch of stuff on Linux.
