i can swap my gnote1 for a gnote2 for about a 300$...
but should i?... need some help and advice on the subject

Personally, I wouldn't bother.

Sold my N7000 to get this...
I am a true smartphone user, heavily multitasking, my main reason for upgrading was the extra RAM and CPU.
But the lack of a working PA ROM (and a combination of lack of time and experience to make it work) makes the negatives bigger than the positives.
The first note was amazing.
The second note, even more amazing, but lacking support, wait for now, because you barely notice the upgrade.

Keep the old one & worry less about dropping etc.
Only get a 2 when a complete bargain comes along

I would take it.

This is definitely a matter of taste, as MOST of the Note 2 owners do agree with each other, that the TW build on the Note 2 makes it unnecessary to switch to PA oder any other CM derivate. It is just near perfection and brings a HELL of useful features. I canĀ“t stand the fact the people are ditching e.g. the multiwindow feature for per-app-density.
The Note 2 is perfect as it is, what is even also the reason for MANY "livelong XDA flashers" to ROOT (!) their phones!
I owned both and the Note 2 is just WAY better in every sense! No comparison

I switched yesterday from the Original Note (ON) and thus far I am VERY happy. My ON was running CM10 stable and i had used all the other JB roms so the Note2 Jelly Bean interface is familiar. There are a few quirks with the Note2 but it's just a matter of me getting used to it.
I really like
1) the smaller width..not much but makes a lot of difference for myself,
2) I actually like and use the snote apps which were missed on my ON so this is great. I love the popup note app when you remove the s pen
3) smoothness of operation,
4) the many features and options such as the warning given when I left the stylus laying around.
5) blinking notifications
6) quick access to apps via the lockscreen (yes I know custom ROMS or widgetlocker can do the same but I thought it's a nice STOCK feature)
7) etc., etc.
8) Oh yeah, Battery life is phenomenal in my first day, especially considering how much I've been playing with it...GPS, Bluetooth, couple phone calls, etc., etc. Again, another nice surprise for me.
My biggest surprise is that I realized today that I am very likely to leave my Note2 unrooted and on the stock rom!! I feel the NOTE2 runs that good. I simply "disabled" most of the unwanted ATT apps that I could via applications manager...seems to do the trick.
Dislike
1) I was surprised Touchwiz is very usable EXCEPT it's a 4x4 grid?!? Oh well I use GO launcher OR Nova anyway so that's really not an issue.
2) I will have to get used to the physical center button but am sure I will adopt over time.
It's not a given that you should switch since the ON is very nice but I was glad I did.

I am a centre button hater, i hate all physical buttons, but i don't use it at all, i use "swipe pad" & one of those pads on swipe pad is "apex launcher" ... (apex menu also allows a double tap to bring up recents apps)
Physical centre button stays untouched at all times.

I was on the note 1 for about 10 months, on n1, i had to flash cm10 for smoothness as tw was always laggy in some way(but also lost some tw features), but after trying n2 instore, i bought it. It could run so smooth now on tw (with jb) i don't think i need to use cm10 for quite a while

Good question
My wife has a note 1 & I just bought the Note2.
The primary difference is in how Smooth the N2 is; however, this will get negated once the N1 gets the JB update next month.
So if you can wait a month the new JB update is slated to bring many of the N2 features to the N1.
I would say wait and in the meanwhile use a ROM if the speed bugs you

There are other negatives for some of us, i run a dual sim adapter on my note & have done for many years on my phones, the "cut type" are the best & take up no extra space.
The Note2 (exept a twin sim Chinese only model) with smaller sim leaves only the option of the ribbon type adapter.

Very well said. Note 2 is a class apart. Have been using note 1 for over 10 months and sold it off just 2 months before warranty expired!
Trust there is no need to root this as everything is so smooth already and with 4.1.2 on the loose, trust this will be much smoother.
Comparing another quad core phone the htc one x, must say that I made a mistake by purchasing without proper background checking ( thought it would be as easy as the old htc desire) . Locked bootloader htcdev warranty issues, overheating, battery issues and what not. Note 2 This is truly a future proof phone for at least the next 1 to 2 years easily. And moreover, we have 2 years warranty in this region.... And by that time some better solutions will be there to root and load cwm.

I decided not to buy Note 2.

I will not buy a Note 2 and proceed with a Nexus device.
Be it from LG, HTC or Samsung.
The Original Note has already frustrated me to a point I can't bear no longer.
Let me explain why before you Note 2 worshippers come and attack me.
Original Note Frustrations:
1. ICS Update for GT-N7000
- Gingerbread theme on an ICS based ROM. I mean comeon how lazy are you Samsung really?
- Even the Gallery is not updated. It's stock Gallery from Gingerbread (Fixed in latest half-assed S3 lookalike update)
2. Midway ICS transition to JB Update for GT-N7000
- Improves the situation abit but still very gingerbread-ish.
- Finally the launcher lags no more. I mean after 10 months after launch? SERIOUSLY SAMSUNG?!
- New Gallery from Note 2. I applaud this. A great improvement from your Gingerbread Gallery.
3. Waiting for Updates.
4. S-Pen, no matter how much you worship this Samsung innovation, it does not feel native to the core OS.
5. Super AMOLED HD is a pain in the ass.
- Screen degrades too quickly. It takes 6 months only for the whites in my Note to go YELLOW. 6 freaking months.
- Try to view a full screen white image when you are using your S-AMOLED HD phone. Its completely uneven.
- I mean, really? Left is pure white. Right is yellow? What sorcery is this?!
- Pentile but solved in Note 2 but quick degration is probably still present.
- I swear the Note 1 which has higher pixel density is more blurr-ish than my iPad 3 which has a lower pixel density.
- Black Clipping. A serious problem still not solved from Day 1. Frustrating.
6. Aspect Ratio.
- To me is a downgrade. Less resolution.
- 16:10 allows me to have wider portrait viewing.
7. Samsung Exynos
- A real benchmarking powerhouse but still sucks anyway.
- Why it sucks? Documentation and source support. We Note 1 owners still don't get no Project Butter thanks to Samsung.
8. Samsung TouchWiz
- TouchWiz is clunky and unfinished. (They almost solved it in TouchWiz Nature)
- Too many gimmicks unless I mention are useful ones.
- Direct Call is useful.
- AllShare sucks compared to AirPlay. I can't AllShare my YouTube. But I can AirPlay my YouTube on iPad.
- Same thing for Pop Up Video. Why can't I Pop Up my YouTube? As I explained earlier, not built into Core OS.
- AirView (Note 2 specific feature) Completely unrealistic. Apple developed a way superior "pinch-a-little" to view photos. Who the hell wants to take out the S-Pen just so you can preview some photos which might not be photos you want to see even. Might as well click the album and view all right? AirView on Video Player is the same thing. You can just hold the seekbar right? Why use a pen?
But these are things I love about the original Note.
1. Battery is huge. I mean can really last two days long!
2. Screen size. I swear its perfect for my hands.
3. Video support is amazing!
I know Note 2 solved many of this problems but you know what. The future is still bleak with its Exynos processor.
The brick bug? Comeon. Samsung seriously? You still haven't fix it in months?!
Imagine another Project like Project Ultra Mega Buttery Smooth in Android 5.0 and then devs realised drivers are incompatible
with Note 2 and must wait for Samsung to release the drivers which could take months!
Note 2 is a good phone if only you don't see its flaws.
I learnt the hard way that hardware is not everything.
Software is important too with the dev support.
Note forums is practically dead until Samsung releases JB sources for the OG Note.
I expect a half-assed update whatever the next version of Android is when S4 comes out for Note 2. Trust me on that.
Your future with the Note 2 will be bleak with frustrations.
Ask any dev using Note 1 including me.
Frustration awaits.
Have a good day.
Yours truly
OG Note user from Launch Day.

Funny how you were saying how you were so glad to have switched to the OG Note less than 2 weeks ago....
And didn't you supposedly have an N7105 too?
You're entitled to your opinion and I'm not trying to take that away. But being an owner of a Note 2 for about 4+ days now, I couldn't disagree with you more with virtually every bullet point.
Jelly Bean and S-Pen apps are revolutionary upgrade over the Note 1. Pull out the pen, and the device unlocks locks automatically and you're ready to write. Push it back in, and you're back to the home screen. The AirView works amazing, and it adds a whole new level of useful UI that is similar to hovering with a mouse but maybe even better. It is a feature that I am sure Apple is falling over themselves running to the conference room to see how they can get something like AirView. S-Pen functionally is heavily baked into the OS. And it feels refined. They seriously put a lot of focus here, so I am surprised that you say that anything is half baked.
I agree with you that TouchWiz for Gingerbread and ICS is seriously ugly. The Note 2 comes with TouchWiz UX (heavily modified for S-Pen), and it is a beautiful UI, better than any launcher available on the market (just my opinion. Some of TW UX is only clunky because they had to remove UI improvements due to Apple patent infringements. Minor annoyances really.
TouchWiz was made ugly on purpose by Samsung because they are in the business of controlling OS updates to sell more phones. And no, just because it is Exynos, it doesn't have anything to do with not getting OS updates. You're not going to do any better with updates with a Samsung that has a Snapdragon processor. If the Note 1 ever gets Jelly Bean, it will be TouchWiz again and uglified. So why are you sticking with the Note 1 again?
I agree that the new RGB screen is not anything special. It is pretty much performs identical to the Galaxy S3 screen except when examined under the microscope. It is not any brighter, at least mine is not.
You sound like you enjoy watching videos on the Note. Most HD videos are in 16:9 ratios these days, so that on a 16:10 screen, you get black bars on top and bottom. Thus you are only using 5.15" of your 5.3" screen on the Note 1. And the Galaxy Note having a 5.55" screen means you get a .4" upgrade from the Note. Whether you think an extra .4" for video is up to you.
Note 2 has a great battery. If you probably leave it alone and not use it, it would probably go for much longer than 2 days. It is that no one with a Note 2 has been letting it sit there for days and monitoring the battery just yet. It will happen, and the numbers can only be great. I was on it pretty heavily today tethering it, streaming videos, putting it through stress tests, speed tests, benchmarks, and I managed to go nearly 18 hours.
I guess what I'm saying is, in my opinion, your perspective on the Note 2 is completely off. And the reason I say that is what you are saying is polar opposite compared to all the people that have owned it for a few days and have reviewed it (myself included).
But hey, you're entitled to your opinion.
+1 to all that written above..
And 2 updates in 2 weeks..!!!
Samsung is really stepped on the pedal & its not gonna get any better then this on any OEM..
And good luck with the boring aosp experience..

I agree, but S-Pen as I said will never feel native in the OS. But the minor improvements are definitely welcome.
AirView is useful to a certain extent. I don't imagine anyone wants to take out the S-Pen to view a preview of their photos or videos.
when they can just tap and see the actual image or video. Plus for AirView in Gallery, Apple did a much smarter way. Pinching a little to see a preview. That's smarter than taking out a pen to view.
I wasn't saying about Note 2. I was saying about how Note 1 is completely half-baked. I've tried Note 2. Its an improvement but not a major one.
One more time, I will say it again. It won't feel native to the OS.

A major improvement I agree, but this causes the update dilemma. A serious problem no matter how much you love TouchWiz.
I love TouchWiz but I would give anything for a better update schedule near the iOS level.

Yes, the main reason Note 1 is still stuck with an unfinished JB is because of Exynos.
Not essentially true, I recall Exynos 4210 devices are the only powerhouses left that doesn't have hwcomposer fixed properly yet.

AMOLED screens degrade very quickly. Brightness is not that important if the screens degrade so quickly compared to an LCD.

I didn't say much about Note 2. I was saying alot of the original Note.
A frustration but nonetheless an excellent device.
Well I'm just here to give an opinion.
Note 2 is amazing device. If you can live with the flaws, it's the best phone yet.
Galaxy Nexus and OG Note came out near the same time.
And now, the Nexus is way much superior to the Note because of the software.
I hope you get my point. I'm talking about the future here.
Not the current state of the device now which is amazing.

After all the frustrations with the Note 1.
- Half-assed ICS update. I mean comeon a gingerbread theme in ICS? Really?
- Then they decided to update halfway to half-baked S3 UI and still looks clunky.
- Tired of waiting for updates.
- S-Pen no matter what you think of it, doesn't feel native as in baked into the Android subsystem.
- S-AMOLED. I don't like it. The screen degrades too quickly. Now my whites are super yellow. Its frustrating! Best part the notification bar area is whiter then the other areas with a distinctive line. Disappointing.
- Pentile. (But they solved it with Note 2!) My eyes are never the same after seeing iPad 3's screen and looking at Note 1 is just blurry. Best part is iPad 3 has a lower pixel density than Note 1.
- Change of aspect ratio. I bought Note 1 because of 16:10. And it's gone. Don't tell me about the advantages about 16:9 because I like 16:10.
- Samsung source support. Seriously? Note 1 still doesn't have buttery smooth JB. Unbelievable. I will never buy an Exynos device ever again.
- TouchWiz. I love some aspects of it but I hate most of it. It's seriously ugly but somewhat useful in some ways. The newest iteration seems just fine, but not sparkling.
But these are things I love about the original Note.

1. You clearly prefer stock firmware/updates. In which case, why are you even here? Most users on xda prefer their devices rooted and running custom firmware, or at the very least, stock but processed (rooted, deodexed, zipaligned, the works...).
2. Don't like your UI? You don't even necessarily need root. There are plenty of launchers on play store alone to allow some sort of customization (Apex launcher is my personal favourite for example). If you want more than that, you'll most likely need to root.
3. I don't know what kind of miracles you expect doing with the S-Pen, but it IS in fact integrated to Samsung's firmware. Be it code, or simply drivers.
4. I have no clue what's wrong with your screen, but mine is crystal clear. Beautiful colours and very smooth.
5. True, no official Jellybean update as of yet. But, that's why we have a community of amazing devs here that bring it to us, whether it's in the form of a leak, or cyanogen based ports. Either way, they work on it hard to give us as stable releases as possible. Hence the name of this website, if you haven't noticed... xda-DEVELOPERS.
6. The Exynos processor on the GT-I9100 (Galaxy SII), still even now, pulls some of the best benchmarks on the market.
7. If the device is ugly, in your opinion, why bother even getting one in the first place?
8. Although I do agree the Note forums aren't as lively as other devices, there are some seriously stable rom options there, with MANY cool features.
9. "Note 2 is a good phone if only you don't see its flaws"?! This makes no sense. No general consumer market tech is flawless out of the box. I owned 2 LG devices.... Never again. You just cant compare the build quality between Samsung and LG.
Bottom line, if you don't know how to use your device properly, or to its fullest potential, don't complain about it.
This thread should be locked in my opinion.
Can't believe I wasted my time commenting about this. I just had to... LOL
Well I did buy the Note 2 and have been using it for 5 days now. But I can say one of the main reasons I bought it was that there were not really any acceptable alternatives for me. I was using an S3 and actually waited until the IPhone 5 was released to take a look but it was still too small.
I have a couple of complaints similar to the op's, and the first one is Amoled. The sad fact is that for the most part if you use a Samsung phone these days you have to deal with an unrealistic color representation and other display issues. If someone could make a 5 inch phone with the IPad 3 display quality they could have all my money. Now the Note 2 has maybe the best Amoled I have seen, but it is still not quite ready.
The other things are the various little problems with design. And here is an example that has me pissed off: If you are using your phone as a music player and used the long press on the headphone button to adjust volume well that will not work any more with 4.1.1. Instead it brings up the ridiculous Google voice search. So if you want to adjust the volume you have to take the phone out of your pocket and hit the button. And this is 2012. I have to wonder if the engineers who design these things actually use them. Did they ever take them home for a weekend or try to use them in day to day life? Usability problems like this make me nuts, and are why I nearly went back to the IPhone after using 3 different Samsung phones.

LOL

You didn't read what I said. Do I have to repeat again? OMG.
Root or not, with dev or no dev.
It's nearly impossible to provide a STABLE JB-based ROM with hwcomposer working (aka Project Butter component) if the manufacturer doesn't provide the drivers for JB.
Yeah for now the screen is amazing, wait just maybe 6 months.
Enjoy your pathetic yellowish degraded screen.
I never even said the device is ugly. Seriously? Do you even read?
Pulls the best benchmarks with no stable JB hooray
while a TI-based phone which produces lower benchmarks has stable JB. I'm so happy.
I agree with you on the last point.
It's a wait and see approach. But the original Note is going to be my last Samsung device ever. Too many flaws.

Please stop - finding it harder to resist the Note 2 every day!
Seriously though, every video review I've read makes it clear just how full this phone is of great features. I've never been a fan of TouchWiz and I personally think it looks dog ugly compared to stock Jelly Bean, but I can't deny that Samsung have built in some really useful features combined with the fastest technology available. I've heard complaints about price, but when I compared Amazon's price for SIM free to Apple's price for the iPhone 5, the Note 2 is marginally cheaper.
Have a ton of apps already loaded.
Take the N1 custom Rom that claims is the buttery smoothest and this kicks its ass without modding.
Take the fastest tweaked N1 custom Rom (tried em all) and this runs circles around it.
The screen clarity is better..more vivid...had doubts from comments here.
If you liked using the S-pen on N1...you'll love it here.
Multi Window functionality really is a revolutionary feature in a stock rom. Being able to have my notes app on the bottom and comment on a document displayed above it is superb. All the features Samsung hyped about in their release announcement....aint hype!
Its that good...and more.
Oh and I really like it!
So....all the many other new features on this that Samsung you can read a

I am also a Note 1 user/lover and have bought a Note 2.
Here are my initial thoughts:
Note 2 is much easier to hold... feels more like a phone then a tablet.
Note 2 screen seemed to be less bright/colourful as Note 1 but with a few minor adjustments from the default settings it is much better. Though i am still in 2 minds about which screen is superior.
Multi window feature is awesome.
Speed of the device is excellent.
S-Pen implementation is much better on Note 2 then Note 1.
Signature unlock has been removed (must have had issues), but we now have 'motion' unlock and a 'face and voice' unlock feature to compliment.
Apps do not have access to the external SD card... at all. The only app that can access the external SD is the built in File Explorer.
Swype is now fully integrated (ie/ it is the default keyboard and all Swype branding has been removed).
That's all i can think of for now!
its fantastic phone better then n1 in every department other then camera, images, text and icons. not as crisp or clear.
fixed all the parts i didn't like with the first note.
More ergonomic pen.
More uses for the pen.
Better battery-life.
feels better to hold.
LED notifications.
Smoother overall experience.
Screen don't feel as crisp but its still sharp and nice in my opinion. actually i find it just as good as the first Notes screen.
Camera is fast.
Speaker is great, even covering it with your finger it still hearable.
power and volume buttons moved down a bit for easier access.
micro SD card slot moved to a better location.
faster WI-FI.
GPS finds location quicker then my note, and finds satellites when the note dont. got 7 in view right now side by side with my old note.. the old note got 0 in view...
100% worth the money :victory:

We get it, you have your thread complaining about the Galaxy Note II, now whilst you have the right to express yourself and your feelings about the phone. I'm tired of seeing you say the same old thing over and over and over again about the Galaxy Note I, which may or may not happen with the Galaxy Note II. We get it, sammy screwed you over, now get over it and go get your iPhone or whatever. Sheesh.

I think you really want the note 2, why do you stick around if you're that disappointed? I'm not a big fan of iPhones and I certainly don't hang around in iPhone forums. We get it you don't like it but we do and you won't change our mind. Go enjoy whatever phone you enjoy and let us be for crying out loud.
Overall I am very satisfied. Only 2 things is a little let down for me
- No preinstall polaris office
- Cannot change input method by long press on a text area (this feature was very usefull for me in note 1)
Apart from these...I am very very happy

Whenever you open the keyboard you can change the input method via the notification tray (long pressing a text area was removed in ICS)
Any comment on the feeling of the home button? I have tried my friend's GS3 and don't like the cheap (like a toy) feeling when I press it. I hope the GN2 home button is smooth like the iPhone one

Wat? My Galaxy S1 (Which I preordered back then) is still in use by one of my friends. The display does not look degraded in any way.

Bought a Galaxy Note 12.2 - mixed feelings...

Well I picked up a Note 12.2 (black/32GB) Friday and well have some mixed feelings considering the cost.
1. Need to root for more multiwindow apps
2. Chrome performance is still lacking - Googles fault, not Samsung's but figured raw performance would address it.
3. Really hate the physical home button and cap buttons more then I even thought I would. Why Samsung thinks this is a good idea beats me!
4. Really don't like that everything is scaled up in size for the larger screen. I realize it's the same resolution as my Nexus 10 but a DPI setting would have addressed this. Just makes it feel cheap and like it's for old people or kids. Need to root to change DPI...
5. Seems Samsung took big step backwards on some S Pen apps. The demos I watch for the previous Note devices work much better and more streamlined then on the Note 12.2. Really not sold on the S Pen and think mine is going back for a Tab Pro 12.2 if it's released soon otherwise maybe just a outright return.
6. Seems really stupid they hide the menu button under the multitask button (long press). I know many apps have a menu button but for those that do not this could really throw off a person who is not resourceful. This is the kind of crap that backs up the idea that an iPad is easier to use.
7. Definitely some random lag. Why does Samsung need to over bloat everything. stock Android fits in like 300MB and TW Android is like 8GB!
8. Very limited development activity!
I probably have more to say just not coming to mind yet. If I keep it I simply have to root in order to address the DPI and multi-window apps. It's an expensive device to give up warranty on... Only on day 3, we'll see how the next few go...
Totally understandable. Takes a bit of contemplation when the price is this high before deciding to root.
Having owned a Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the past, I knew going in though that there was no way i'd be satisfied with out of the box Touchwiz. I also knew that I wanted certain applications like Titanium Backup so I basically knew I was going to root from the moment I handed over my credit card to the cashier.
Good luck on your decision.
Thanks for the review it's a shame Samsung screwed this up. Had huge potential. Their latest products are not very impressive. I think you just made my mind to get the new Sony z2 tablet.

Its not bad at all. .. Just a lot of money for something that is not near perfect. I thought about a Z2 buy really wanted a 12 inch tablet. Root will address mammy issues and Google improving Chrome performance will do a lot. I'm pretty sure I'm taking the note 12.2 back and getting a tab pro 12.2 as $100 is to much for the s pen unless you are going use it a lot. .
I feel the same about the bloat. Really, my only problem with the tablet was TouchWiz. I plan to root within the next few days (as long as I'm still enjoying the tablet). I, for one, ONLY got this for drawing and writing.

This thread reminded me that I had bought button savior for another android device that I had so thanks for that. Currently using button savior with root and liking it. Nice to have home, back and menu buttons within reach now.
Well after using my Note Pro 12.2 for week+ then trying my Nexus 10 again you really see how much better this tablet is. Decided to keep it, hopefully I'll find some value out of the S Pen. Just rooted it today so it's getting even better as I apply some tweaks (DPI, Chrome user agent, freezing apps, enable more multiwindow apps).
Had one for a few days...
Really nice screen size, like the larger fonts/UI as they are, easier to read and use compared to an iPad.
Disappointed in poor gallery performance showing 2560+ wide png images very slow render times.
Lag is still seen browsing the Web, eBay seems to bog it down . 8 cores and 3GB ram... Why?
PDF reading with EbookDroid improved but still short of Goodreader on the ipad.
Preferred the older gen of a snote, f (x) input / wolfram now gone.
Price given the issues above seems too high.
Too big
So I have had the Note 12.2 for a couple of days and all I can say that it is too big for me as a daily tablet. I will give it few more days of use and than decide if I'm going to keep it or not.

1. No you don't there is an app for that.
2. Chrome sucks on anything. It literally is the worst. Dolphin and others can sync with desktop chrome and dolphin supports flash. You lost all credibility the moment you complained about chrome.
3. Samsung intends for it to be used mostly in portrait they are nice when used with a keyboard. But its ok to dislike it
4 . It's a bigger screen of course they made things bigger. It makes sense. If you want a smaller launcher use a different launcher. Or just root and adjust your dpi. Buy a third party protection plan like square trade and you dont have to worry about your warranty.
5. The spen apps have gotten better. Look around the forums. Many people had the old 10.1 and upon switching hated the new ones but have come to prefer the new apps. And if you "arent sold on the spen" why the #*@% did you pay extra for it?
6. Google has been pushing to get rid of the menu button. Samsung and some chinese oems are the only ones that still have it and samsung is the ONLY one that gives you the apps button and menu button. All apps should have an overflow in kitkat and samsung gives you this. 2 ways to get to a menu!! Dont you feel lucky!!
7. This device does not lag period. Ive only observed very slight jumps in graphics (the drop down bar almost exclusively) it is extremely smooth out of the box even before rooting and disabling apps. Your whining about a minor easily fixed graphical complaint (force gpu rendering and disable some bloat, no root required) which apparently ruins the entire tablet for you. As for bloat everything has bloat. When was thr last time you bought an LG phone or an iphone or hell even a nexus. Just so you know STOCK ANDROID DOESNT COME WITH GAPPS!!! So even nexus is bloat ridden. Samsung adds alot of functional applications. Most of the "bloat" is actually extremely useful if you are a business minded person. And you can disable alot of it. Just root and uninstall!
8. It is a 750 dollar 12 inch tablet with identical specs to a 500 dollar tablet and similar to some 350 dollar tablets. What do you expect devs (most that do this as a hobby) to just go running to best buy and grabbing it up? Also you keep complaining about rooting but you want dev activity which would mostly require root. Are you serious? Your like a bad tech reviewer that just found out rooting exists and cant device to hate or love it. If you want more dev activity buy another one and give it away to your favorite developer.
So in conclusion you dont know why you bought this tablet (Im thinking "ooh its big and shiny!!!" Had something to do with it) you didnt read the forums to see that the spen apps have been improved or that many of your complaints (ui lag and multiwindow apps) could be easily fixed, and your bipolar about rooting. I suggest you return it and purchase an ipad air. It might be a bit closer to your level.

Samsungs ROMs contain a ton of bloat in the ROM code, it's not just the apps that take up the extra space. I know what stock Android is and that GAPPS needs to be loaded on ROMs like CM, AOKP, Paranoid, OmniROM. Been using these ROMs about as long as I have been using Android (@ 5 years). You can sit hear and defend Samsung all you want. I have had an S2, S3, S4, and the Note 12.2. Every single one of these device had some lag. It's not that big of deal or I wouldn't continue buying Samsung. I just really thought the raw horsepower of this tablet would make it smoother. My almost 2 year old Nexus 10 is smoother overall in the GUI, no question about it! The 12.2 clearly has more horsepower and I clearly see that in several apps I use that require a ton of processing power.

I've rooted every Android device I have ever owned. In addition to the list of phones above I've had a few other makes of phones and a few other tablets. I don't have an issue with rooting at all. Both my S3 and S4 were rooted the same say I got them. It was simply a little harder to root a $800 device with the understanding that it would void warranty. So I waited a couple weeks until I was sure I was keeping it and to ensure there were no hardware issues with the unit. So according you your response I guess it's not ok to state that there is limited to no developer activity. I was simply stating a fact but you seem to think that for some ****ing strange reason people can't state a fact without you ****ing lecturing them for stating suck a fact. There you go again running your mouth. I'd guess you are some spoiled kid who been taught no respect. To be clear, I bought this tablet for two reasons. First, I have been waiting a year for the next generation of tablets to replace my Nexus 10. Second, I have wanted a larger tablet and no one else makes a 12 inch tablet.
So in conclusion I don't know what your problem is. I posted up some good honest opinions on this tablet. You obviously don't think Samsung can do no wrong. I don't use Apple products but I'm not too childish to respect what they do right. I have never owned a iPad but do support a few of them so I'm not oblivious to how they work and compare to Android tablets. I assure you my "level" of technical skills is much higher then you could ever possibly imagine. I'd love to compare technical knowledge, experience, and pay rate any day!

Yet that doesn't change the fact that Samsung is the only company giving you menu function at all does it? If it was a nexus you wouldn't have any sort of menu key. At least you have one. The ones I find most often that don't have overflows are emulators. This is because devs haven't updated their apps to include them.

The 12.2 clearly has more horsepower and I clearly see that in several apps I use that require a ton of processing power.
I don't see the lag. It is a matter of perception. I have used a nexus side by side and feel the note is just as smooth. I'm not defending Samsung. They could of dine several things better, my issue really is that if you root (you did) all those issues can be fixed and it is an amazing device that speaks for itself.
Again, back to my statement in #2, you seriously do have a personality disorder. You should seek some help with that...
No just that you stated it as a con bothered me. It is such an obvious downside with such an expensive device that it doesn't need to be said. And more importantly I had a thing going with the numbers.
I like this much better. My issue before is that it seemed like a list of complaints (we get a lot of those)
This is you describing precisely why you bought it and the issues you have face. I have no issue now
So in conclusion I don't know what your problem is.

Although I don't work in the tech field. I don't have the attention span for it. Love technology but coding is incredibly boring and tedious to me. I'm only learning it as hobbt to modify my own devices (and potentially release a rom one day) I'm not implying that I know more than you. More just bringing it to your attention that it was kind of a whiny post. It's much better now that you have described in detail your grievances. Also if your pay grade is so good why do you worry about the warranty? And if your tech skills are so good you should be our first Dev
Oh and yes I DO have a personality disorder. Kind of. I have aspbergers. A form of high functioning autism that manifests itself in social skills. I am very bad with social cues such as body language lol. I would rather be be alone than with people usually. Sadly my girlfriend doesn't agree. It is often found along side ADD. I also have that. It's OK though. People with ADD are typically very bright (which I am) That being said I intended to be a bit offensive. Your post was written In a way that got it very little attention. You get more responses ( I wouldn't have been a jack*#@) if it had been written just a bit differently a list of a problems will get nothing more than a return it from most people. Especially when you answer your own problems ( Rooting was a great solution) Good luck with the dpi change (I love adjusting apps individually instead of system wide) and I sincerely hope you enjoy the tablet for the next 2 years. I will.

Man when you get 400 off a tv minimum don't look so bad

Anyone else concerned about lag (touch wiz)?

Phone Arena's head to head comparison show that the iPhone and G3 launch apps faster. I can't believe Samsung puts in the best phone processor, but had no care for the end user of a fluid experience, and appears to have put in zero work in making touch wiz faster. Any thoughts?
If that's the case, then I'm sticking to my m8. I couldn't stand that on the note 3.

I was running some tests on a HP Gen8 server sometime back, it was taking time and sort of freezing a few times.
It had 512GB of RAM, quite a few Xeon processors and tons of other stuffs. It was still "lagging" in many tests.
Do you think I should take this server out and put Moto X, as apparently it doesn't lag.
Samsung phones do a lot more than any other phone. There are many options that you can use in Samsung phone that you won't ever find it a simple phone. And hence there is a tradeoff. It's the law of nature. The very idea of getting a Samsung phone is that you are not getting a normal bare-bone stock device. It's has bells and whistles. It your objective is to have a phone with bare minimum features, get some other phone.
If you get a Samsung phone you might see delay of 0.5 sec for some basic thing, not that I ever care about them. Not it's for your to decide whether you are interested in that half-second of time or do you think those added functionality is more important to you. Just a simple trick like slide to call/SMS is such amazing in a Samsung device.
i cant stand my G3. note 3 didnt lag as much as this pos
Meh, it's a demo model, we don't know which processor it had in it, and it's running a pre-production unit of the new touch wiz. That, and half those tests were bunk, email on the G3 had 2 emails, the note 4 had about 100, same with Gallery. I'll wait for a real comparison before I even look at these speed tests.

I agree with that. My G3 definitely has more lag than the Note 3 I had before it.
Some people say the G3 has less lag when you use the ART runtime, but I have a few apps that are not ART compatible so can't test that.
I doubt the Note 4 will be worse than the G3 in terms of lag. I'll test out when the Note is in stores. If it IS slower then I just won't buy it. Simple.

I seriously wish I would have kept my One M8 instead of going to the G3.
But I get 'new, shiny syndrome' sometimes. Lol
On the other hand I'm displeased enough with the G3 that I doubt I'll regret getting rid of it.

me too cant wait for note 4!!
I wish I could have waited for a note4 but my upgrade was burning a hole in my pocket and I picked up the GS5 in April. I love this phone but I want the big screen. I would gladly trade my Sprint GS5 and a Sprint GS3 for this bad boy.
Samsung finally learned to lighten up TouchWiz a bit.
My S5 is completely lag-less. At least as good as the Nexus 4 or S4 mini with CM11, i had before.
Note 4 has a higher resolution but also more power.
(Only 'lag' may be the Home button, because its waiting for a second press (S Voice) - but you can disable that.)

Hehe
What i 'dislike' most is the camera. Everything else is great.
The camera is not bad (and still one of the best) but its not as superior as Samsung made me / us believe.

I have a note 2 on Verizon. I think that as an expensive premium device, even for all these "extra features" like you guys say, there is NO EXCUSE for lag! It has the absolute latest phone processor in it, and they even developed their own. What's the point if everything lags and is slow anyway?
My HTC One Max is just as fast as the M8 and MUCH faster than note 3 with metal all around not just on sides and BoomSound speakers are as good as the ones on M8 not single tiny speaker on the back like Note 4.

I am sure you go to every thread in this community and you will find at least 1thread discussing about slow sluggish and lags.
Our human tendency is we want note never satisfied with what we've already got
Emotion Revolution coming soon on Note 4 (Aosp,Miui,Touchwiz, &Nadia kernel) I am ready to note!! Are you ???
Well I rooted my Note 3 and installed some apps like Seeder, Lag Fix and an app which auto restarts my phone once a day, closing all background apps. It has pretty much eliminated all the lag except the Gallery. For that I installed Nexus Gallery from the store. Still I may think twice before upgrading to another Samsung device.
It is being reported by users, that the TMo OTA update that is being pushed out today solves the recent apps button lag. Nice to see Samsung react to an issue and push out an update.
Now I just get to wait for AT&T to release the update and all will be good.

You should just name this forum, "What are your favorite features?"
I have a Developer Edition and I'd say that the phones unlocked is my favorite feature. Of the note 4 in general there are just to many to list probraly that it is so feature rich!!!
I've owned all 4 notes and the deciding factor has always been the s-pen. If the new nexus had one I'd be on that, but for me I use the pen all the time
The screen. Has a lot of distinguishing features, but I think that's the best so far. Definitely a sum of it's parts best in class. Without root, a bit harder to champion.
At work where people are very envious of it, is the pen and clipping features for sure.

The s pen and an SD card slot and I'd have gone for the Nexus too.
Favorite feature? Tough for me to say since it all works so well. I'll go with the fact that I finally have a smart/feature phone that actually does well as a phone (signal, audio, battery).
I haven't got my Note 4 yet, but here are the features that have made me decide on it.
1. Most important is root access. I absolutely will not buy a phone that locks me out of doing what I want. To that end I plan on buying the developer's edition. Incidentally this is what kept me from buying the LG G3. I was VERY interested in it, but by the time root was achieved phones with the 805 processor were just around the corner.
2. Replaceable battery. I tend to buy top of the line gear and then use it for a long time before replacing. Given the limited lifespan of batteries being able to swap a new one in let's me use my toy long after it would otherwise have died. Heck, I just replaced the battery in my Nexus 10. Plus I occasionally like to carry a spare battery on trips.
3. The camera. I've never been much of a photographer but recently I've found myself wishing more and more that I had a decent camera with me. The camera in my current Galaxy Nexus is pretty poor.
4. SD card slot. Since I expect to be taking more pictures and videos than before having the extra storage will be a must!
5. The screen. Love the size, sharpness and color.
6. The multiwindow functionality.
7. I THINK I will like the stylus, but I'm not sure. Never had one on a phone.
A couple of the features I don't care about at all are the heart rate monitor and the fingerprint scanner. I'll probably see if I can disable them entirely just to save battery.
This is my third Note (Note 2, 3, 4) and here's why I chose it...
- Removable battery
- SD card.
- Screen size and resolution
- CPU performance.
I never use the SPen so that wasn't a factor.
The big bonus this time is the beauty of the body of this Note. Samsung isn't noted for it's design, they've always been more pedestrian than pretty. The first thing I've always done with Samsung phones was put a case on it. But this one is so beautiful that I refuse to put a case on it.
My favorite feature is the UNLIMITED data

Good post. I think you'll want to wait because there is a good chance that the Verizon Note 4 will not have root access. Development overall is low, and the phones are locked down. Bad combination for those of us who at least want root.
Hope it does eventually happen, but I don't know.
Can't believe my coworker has jailbreak on his giant iPhone but this phone isn't rooted! (Somewhat exaggerated outrage) Don't sleep on the camera as a great feature, I find it incredibly improved from Note 3.

I agree. I'm one of the ones who is anxiously awaiting the restock of the Developer Edition.
If for some strange reason I am not able to get a DevEd version and the retail version never does get unlocked I will probably just stick with my old Galaxy Nexus for a while longer. Maybe the LG G4 (or whatever they wind up calling their next flagship) will suit me.
I'm guessing next year's wave of flagship phones will have 64 bit processors so maybe waiting won't be so bad. I am worried based on what Chainfire has said about Android Lollipop, that it will be very difficult to root phones at that point though.
Coming from a G3 I would have to say
-picture window when in calls when u home button out.
-text message pop up
-S Pen
-Battery
-Working Art
-Camera
-Screen (no oversharpening)
