Android secret image - Galaxy Note II General

Just wanna share with you guys with an article I came across.
Android Version Secret Image
Do you want to know more about your Android phone? Well why not find the secret Flying Ice Cream Sandwich Androids on your Android 4.0 phone. If you don’t have an Android 4.0 phone don’t worry there might just be a secret image on your version too.
Are you are looking for a random fact about your android phone? How about discovering a hidden image in the about option in your settings?
The first mention of this that I found was on a YouTube post about hidden flying ice-cream sandwich androids in the newest Android version (Android 4.0). If you are lucky enough to have a phone that is running Android 4.0 here is how you access the flying ice cream sandwich.
Go to your Settings and then scroll to the bottom and go into the About option. Now scroll down to the “Android Version” description and press it several times quickly, you should now see this image:
That’s not all though, press and hold down on the image and you will get access to the flying ice cream sandwiches, and they look like this:
When I saw this I got curious and decided to see if my version (Android 2.3.6) had anything behind the Android Version description. What I found was Zombie Art by Jack Larson with an Android hanging out with the zombies.
This for me defines what Android and its developers are about. The platform is designed for users to take it and morph into what they need and want. The developers of the software seem to infuse this sense of humour into the platform not because it’s good for marketing but just because it’s fun, that’s my opinion anyway.
Have you got a different version of Android? What’s behind your Android Version description?
This is my version (images)

Anyway, the 5S goes in preproduction next month if this rumor is right:

At this speed the poor true Apple fans will never ever get away from the Apple stores; as soon as they buy the newest iThing, they have to go back in the line to wait for the next one...

Okay guys. . You want surprises inside. ...?... You need to be rooted. ... Go to system/media/videos. . You will see Android in space video. .lol

Nice find! :good:

The feature mentioned in this tread is called "Easter egg" if you search with google for "android easter egg" you will find more info about this.

This also occurs in the ginger, ics versions

Ice Cream Sandwich

Anybody watch the unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Ice Cream Sandwich? I did, mainly to see what ICS was bringing to the table.....I'd be lying if said I found anything about it groundbreaking or innovating. Mostly minor changes, nothing to really write home about. I do like the look of it though, can't wait to get a device that utilizes it.

They just announced the arrival of Ice Cream Sandwich and that Samsung phone. Nothing really groundbreaking here but the interface looks very nice, has a classy feel to it and some much need functionality now built in, like data usage and an updated "contacts" app that now lists said contacts recent updates from linked social networking sites. It's also got "face unlock", a feature that uses the camera and it's face recognition software to unlock your phone.

I do too, I was just hoping for something more innovative and groundbreaking. I think I'd get a GSII before the Nexus Galaxy now, it's got a better GPU. I can't believe after all this hype and buildup that they would come out with a device that is seeming a step back from the recent GSII as far as cpu and gpu are concerned. I don't get it.

Official promo video Galaxy nexus and android 4.0:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-F_ke3rxopc&feature=player_embedded
From Engadget:
Okay, so we've already seen Ice Cream Sandwich running on the Nexus S, but that was decidedly... unofficial. We've just heard straight from Google's Gabe Cohen that the Nexus S will definitely be getting ICS. In fact, both he and Matias Duarte think most Gingerbread devices will see an upgrade, saying: "Currently in the process for releasing Ice Cream Sandwich for Nexus S. Theoretically should work for any 2.3 device." It's hardly a surprise and there's no specific word on timing just yet, but hopefully it won't take long to move that vanilla Android device up to something with a breaded exterior.
According to ciwrl on the cm forums it usually takes 3 months from when the code drops for a release. Now we are officially supported by cm we will hopefully get it on our x10s!

So, you piqued my interest, and I went and started searching for ICS features and stuff. Anyway, what are the main differences we'll be seeing on our transformers? It sounds like this update is more important for phones because a lot of features sound Honeycomb-esque (except for the swipe on the multi-task roulette to kill apps, that sounds awesome).

There are so many changes this update is from the ground up in comparison to honeycomb
Think of honeycomb as the brainstorm and testing ideas and ice cream sandwich as the finished product
Framework changes UI changes memory management changes face detection improved multi tasking etc etc theres to much to list but its huge!!!!
What dog testing means is that google employees are now using a OTA of ice cream sandwich a mock up public release so to speak they say its a alpha but really its a late beta if they are sticking to there schedule plus why would they OTA a very ruff build no point so it has to be late stages or theres no point testing it on a specific device right?
Id say if they are doing this its a sign of fine tunning and getting out real world issues and bugs
Have i read but im hopefull for late december

Android is still a baby in OS terms, Windows is an Old boy now but Windows 7 was the first decent OS since .... maybe 2000 or XP if you like that kind of thing
Computers are only just becoming powerful and affordable if you look at even 5 years ago
In the next 10 years we will see magic happen, in 20 years we will be laughing at the things we call cutting edge today and I am planning on being here in another 40 years time, just imagine...
You guys know that ICS is fully out on the Galaxy Nexus, which is already released in Europe, right?

While I have no argument with Matias' comments, I do think that Android is, by now, a mature product compared to where it was with the 1.x or even 2.x versions.

Android 4.2 is on its way

Android 4.2 "Key Lime Pie" is already in testphase
The new Android version will not be 5.0, it will be 4.2. This version is to be tested, according to server logs already.
The associated device is, according to the sources already leaked. Androidandme believed that it is a variant of the Nexus LG Optimus G.
On the market, the Android 4.2 mobile phone would come before November.

This isn't news, it's been mentioned by a few people now.
Edit: considering jb hasn't rolled out worldwide, I can only imagine when we will get this on our phones.

If it really does release around November along with a new Nexus device, I'm ditching my S3.

TBH i'm getting a bit fed up with this.
Google need to get everyone on the platform 4.1 and then once the 2.3.4 starts to disappear from users moving to newer devices on 4.1 then introduce 4.2 or 5.0 later
IF this is the case i'll be using whatever ROM is available and I wont be busting a gut to move up as it's becoming most tiresome.
I can't understand everyone moaning about not having Jellybean on the SGS3's. I've been running Jellybean on mine for ages.
After all your on xda forums, try taking control of your life's and your smartphones and flash JB yourselves instead on moaning that you have't got it.
It's a 10 minute job that anyone can do. Simple.
End of rant.

It's not Google's fault cause the OEMS take months to apply theyre custom skins, or that the carriers delay the updates for no apparent reason. They are the ones which have to accelerate this process!
Google needs to innovate, to polish things, to make Android truly the best and most complete mobile operating system. (now that everyone has a smartphone and/or a tablet and the competition is higher than ever)
//If I remember correctly at the Conference where JB was released Google said that they will share the new code with the OEMs months before the announcement of a new version of Android so that they could be prepared with the updates.
From experience
4.2 will not be developed by Uncle Sammy for sgs3 rather it will need to be ported. And by the time google have a stable release of 4.2, Sammy will just about fine tweaked JB in around 4-6 months time.
Edit
Maybe 2-3 months if we are lucky

It's not always the case. I read an article recently about the previous models getting jelly bean, like the tab 7 plus and 7.7. So they got upgraded twice from hc to jb. So it's possible we might be able to taste key lime pie but we'll have to wait again as always. Or just flash like crazy.

Why does this even bother you? So you can tell your ios friends that 67% are Now on Jellybean? Who the f cares? The people who give a crap about the latest updates know how to use google and can get then easily.
If you want to sit on stock and stew then fine, but stop crying when there's loads of alternatives.
If it's version 4.2 then it'll look like JB and ICS. Although I hate the AOSP look I'll try it.

You suggest that Google should stop improving upon Android and developing newer versions with innovative new features that keeps Android cutting edge and good competition, and instead focus on coding for SAMSUNG, LG HTC and so forth?
What a fantastic idea! I can hardly believe they haven't thought about this.
Im just curious how different it is from JB. I was thinking of flashing and rooting..but this time ima roll stock. I did the rooting cyanogenmod 7 thing with my old GT5830 (galaxy ace). This is kind of a dream. Google Android is like a base for a soup. Samsung, HTC, etc.. are adding their own recipee to the mix and this is what is ruining the whole thing. Pure Google Nexus is much more beautiful and smooth and trouble free than the ugly Samsung UI.

I will be more interested in 5.0 which I believe we will see a huge difference.

since should be not much different

Do you think jellybean will be the last major update for the note?

Or will see the 4.2 key lime pie...?
Sent from my Xoom using xda premium
Very likely the last update. Though, I have some hope that we will see a few more updates, since the S3 also has 1GB of RAM. :silly:
If the rumors are true, I think every phone is going to get key lime pie. Why? It turns every device into an instantly update able nexus device thanks to the rumored "customization center". This would give everyone the same base rom which would be updateable by Google, and then different oems would then need to update their "tweaks" (eg. Touchwiz, sense, etc). I think if Google has their way, as many phones will get this as humanly possible, since it would make their lives much easier and would shift much of the power the manufacturers have back to Google.
Apple innovates and Samsung copies, huh? Tell that to my Galaxy Note.
The JB update is the first Android update I've seen that acutally implements new funtionality on any handset I've owned save the iPhone. Hopefully this means that Samsung has "seen the light" and wants to give its customers a similar owner experience to iOS users.
I'll stay on the optimistic side and say that we'll se all upgrades until 5.0 arrives. :good: (Come on Samsung… Apple gives its users two full major version updates…)
-KJ
I think last major update for sure.
The reason why I ask is it seems Samsung seem to bringing a new phone or new model out nearly every other month like the s3 the note 2 the new nexus around the corner I just can't see how there gonna be able to keep on top of all these devices at once with new updates, but I'm sure with some great devs in this forum or note will prosper with afew more updates weather its official or not..

Whilst we may be lucky enough to get Android 4.2, which is still dubbed Jelly Bean and effectively just an upgrade to it, I doubt we will get Key Lime Pie or any further in the Android timeline. I mean, most people get an upgrade every 2 years at the maximum, so I don't know why they would really need to support it much further than that.

The Tab 2s are still relatively capable devices and should be able to handle further updates, obviously Samsung has its intent in keeping the incentive to upgrade to new devices with new software...I do admit, the Samsung ROMs do have some features mostly in the video playback features that has kept me off CM...otherwise...going back to my roots...CM FTW...

No it has no connection with newer devices, Sammy just considers that 4.3/5.0 whatever will be too much for a dual core to handle, maybe they're right, touchwiz will definetly not work with all its bloatware, but AOSP should have no problems

Atleast we will still get new apps
Most apps on the play store right now require atleast Android 2.3 to run
With apple, as they bring out a new iOS verson, all apps require that.

With apple, as they bring out a new iOS verson, all apps require that.
After my experience with that i never bought anything apple again

I wouldn't hold my breath as the 4.1.2 update for the US versions is MIA...

I'm probably stuck on 4.0.4. I have the i497 from AT&T, so no Dev working on any rom, AT&T is slow to release the upgrade, if they ever do. I keep coming here with high hopes, just to be disappointed every time. But I am not worried, ICS is still a lot better than Honeycomb.
This is great news.
Hope it will bring some cool ui

Maybe, but A doesn't imply B. Take a PC, an older PC can handle older windows versions just fine, but as new features are added, the CPU is increasingly taxed. While it may be able to handle it, perhaps the possible performance drop will not be worth the update. Having said that, android is a fork of Linux, and my old #$$ laptop can handle current Linux distros just fine.
