[Q] Can I not take the 4.2 update? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I finally have most of my apps working well from the last update.I had
Rather leave things alone instead of waiting another month for
apps to get updated to work right again. There is nothing in the update that makes
it worth it to me.What can I do so things will stay as they are and not be prompting me
to update all the time. Thanks

uk 1.5 update

This morning I just recived the 1.5 update, I am in the uk and am in the durham county Region , after 20 mins of exploring I think it is great. Has any else recived this update in the uk. Ps I am using the onscreenbord for this.post
I'm in Cambridge UK.
Woke up this morning to find update available. Loaded it while i took a shower.
Love it to bits. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant! Think i will now move over to my G1 permanently instead of my Touch HD. Might even sell the HD and pocket some money too...wow, money in pocket, G1 update..could this be heaven?
The on screen keyboard is what needed the most. I like the new browser icon too, never did like the sort of folder paper thingy before.
Only one minor thing i need now, Bluetooth file send and receive. No big deal though.
A lot of people in the UK have got OS 1.5 (Cupcake) now..
I got my update last night!...

lol, just as i was about to do a manual update, the ota message popped up.
Only problem is there's still stuff missing, like Latitude... again! Oh well, guess we'll wait until next century for the UK to catch up, lol.

Just out of curiosity where any of your phones rooted when you received the notification of the OTA update? I cant seem to find a straight answer on if you can get the update OTA on a rooted phone or not. Currently my phone is rooted however I do want to download 1.5 when its rolled out in the US.
According to the About Phone section in the settings menu im running "kila-user 1.1 PLAT-RC33 126986
ota-rel-key,release-key"
Thanks
butlerguy, if i were you, i would better get JesusFreke's build. The OTA will not give root options as it is based upon the ADP1.5 basic build.
You may even loose root altogether, then need to downgrade to do the process again....
Well im not really too concerned with losing root at the moment. I havent found many personal uses for root yet other then using the openoverclocker app to set the clock speed of the processor which just makes the phone run smoother. From what I understand 1.5 seems to address the laggy issues. Just really need to know if im gonna have to flash back to a tmobile build to be able to get the update or not.
I like the upgrades. I don't like the interface at all. Too cld and boring for me. I wouldn't use the on-screen keyboard either (but it would be used by other android phones)..
So yes I will receive the update OTA with a rooted phone? Is what I'm getting out of this?

No. You wont be able to install it, believe me, i've tried.
I'm JF, RC9, FIRMWARE 1.1, RADIO,1.22.14.11
So if you are rooted apart from rc7, then you wont be able to.
If i'm right in saying that? Anyone?

market is slow

is it just me or is the market running very slow in froyo?
This message was deleted by its author
any ideas why?
Check your logs, it's the usual socket timeout issues, like when you switch for a new Android phone... it should disappear very soon (I had it for an hour earlier)
it was working for me, but now things are downloading and not installing... they just sit there at 100%...
I can't say I notice Market being slow but this is really pissing me off... I bought bTunes and a couple other apps and Market has them marked as Buy as if I don't own them.
WTF.
I'm getting that too, bTunes says Buy, but a lot of other protected apps just don't show up! Is this happening for everyone?

Good call... MLB At Bat is MIA. Hopefully this is a quick fix for the Market crew. I think I should shoot them an email to make them aware.
Protected apps like m bank´s are disent from this version of the Marquet...
That´s my only problem with this awesome 2.2 update.
At a guess most of them are probably to do with the new apps2SD, no doubt when devs start updating them with the new move to SD tags we still start seeing them again
Going to give it a few days before I complain about not having some paid apps (bTunes) though, hopefully thats an easy fix!
really slow
I also see the market is really really slow, I wonder if 2.2 is going somewhere else for data and that source was not ready for everyone to jump on the unconventional means of getting 2.2 up; also, some apps I had are not available and do not come up in searching the market.
Edit: Almost uncanny, but after pressing submit post, both problems disappeared and the market is now the fastest I have ever experienced. Installing and browsing at super speed. No reboot, or anything and my market is normal. Hope it works itself for others so fast
same here some apps arnt there anymore. it happened when the desire came out, protected apps wouldnt show. am sure they had to do an update on the phone to get it working.
i had same problem when start it for the 1st time after flashing yesterday, problem went away after a couple of reboot, now everything is incredibly fast.
Slow!? Lol you must be kidding me.... i have been using Cyanogenmod 5.0.6 for quite awhile and i had to wait, hang on... 5 minutes everytime downloading 1 app.
Here on Froyo, its just instant!
Froyo FTW.
I'ts a common issue it will fix himself (don't ask me how). I had this problem to and one day it fixed itself. This was also with 2.1.
This problems starts when you make a fresh start. There was a silent update for the market and if you have this update market is working fast enough else you have to be patient and wait till you get the update (again).
If you didn't make a fresh start and updated you won't be seeing this slowness of the market.

OTA update on G2 Touch (youtube player)

hey guys, i have the G2 Touch running firmware build 2.73.111.26 CL#69351 on T-Mobile Germany.
today, i got the message that a firmware update is available, that mainly affects the youtube player. it was 3,6 MB large.
i clicked on "download" and afterwards on "install now" and then my phone rebooted. after reboot, first i saw the T-Mobile boot screen, then it booted into recovery mode.
in the beginning, there was a status bar moving (but with no status, just some movement, if you know what i mean) and then the status bar vanished. as it stayed like this without any change for about 10 minutes, i removed the battery and inserted it again, then i booted the phone like always.
but now i don't have the update and can't download it again. is there any way to get that update again?
thanks in advance for your help.
ok, i did a full factory reset to get the update again, that worked very good.
i got the update notification again, and tried installing it again.
download works, after clicking on "install now" the phone reboots and starts in recovery mode.
there is the status bar, and it is working until it is about half filled.
then the icon changes, i suddenly have an explanation mark on the screen, the status bar has vanished.
then nothing happens.
why doesn't it work? what can I do?
try pressing back or menu?
no key works.
for some reason, since the first factory reset, my pc's adb doesn't recognize the phone any more, so i can't see the url of the update. but the update window shows the filename, it is "OTA_Hero_T-Mobile_DE_2.73.111.91-2.73.111.26_R_release5pon5e4vkwhssvb1.zip" if that is helpful for somebody^^
also i called T-Mobile support a few minutes ago, and they said there was no update at all since the 2.73.111.26 that was published in november.
any idea, anybody?
and for the record, the following link works to get the update:
http://liveimage.htc.com/OTA_Hero_T-Mobile_DE_2.73.111.91-2.73.111.26_R_release5pon5e4vkwhssvb1.zip
can anybody help?
Most likely an update to the Youtube player that allows High Quality streams. All the newer builds (3.XXXXXXXX) have this new version, if you can live without, than it's nothing major.
I experienced the same: OTA Update announcement - something about "YouTube Player" blah - after installation, my hero was frozen.
Back & Menu brought me into the maintenance menu: Reboot without upgrade-activation brought back my old hero. No changes done.
Very quick (~1h later) "first level e-mail support" from t-mobile: No OTA-updates possible on G2 Touch (...harhar), pointed me to website with old firmware update.
I asked them to contact second level technical support - as it was definetly an OTA firmware-update and I already have installed the older firmware-update: Answer pending, since yesterday afternoon.
I hope, this was no hacker-intrusion attempt. T-Mobile not being informaed about an OTA firmware-update by whoever, does not really fill me with confidence. Would be a nice little hack, if some illformed hacker found out a way to pretend an firmware update OTA and used the willingness of all hero owners to take even a small step towards Android 2.1 wonderland...
.g.
No, it's really no hacking attempt. The update is on HTC servers, that's why T-Mobile support doesn't know it. Will contact HTC support today.
ok, I just called HTC.
the guy who could hardly speak german but tried very much told me, that they knew of the problem, as I am not the only one with it.
he recommended to perform a full factory reset, then try again.
as I told him that I already had done this several times, he told me I had to send the phone in via T-Mobile, so they can fix this.
considering the fact that this is a very minor update and that I need my phone, I now decided to wait some more weeks till the 2.1 update will (hopefully) arrive.
maybe the 2.1 update will work, if not I still can send it in. also, the update may be available to install via usb from PC, so it might work better.
so it's waiting for 2.1 again
Hi,
In the Netherlands we got this update too. It fixes youtube and enables the phone to get Android 2.1 OTA, which will be available in a week or two.
The original HTC Hero firmware checks for updates every two weeks. Maybe the next trick will be helping you to force download the update (it worked for me to force the update):
Set the device's date a year in the future (for example 15 june 2011). Go back to home screen and probably the update wil appear in your screen.
Let us know if it worked for you..
It worked for me. As soon as I changed the date I received the update.
Thanks for the solution.
Is it just me thats wondering why.. if they are going to release a 2.1 update soon... are they packaging in an update for youtube in this ota?

I guess more people where complaining about the broken Youtube player than about the 2.1 update (at least it was more visible for our customers). Having this fixed and declared on the support site makes life easier for customer support...it is stupid I know, but the average user is that dump.

Sure.. but how many months to wait now.. otherwise why update youtube at all?
Rumours are saying that it's coming the 18th and I think that pretty believable because we have got that update today...
And I don't know anything about youtube update ^^ maybe they wanted to give us something instead of an empty update ^^
Yeah, it makes perfect sense.
There was no "System updates ..." item in the phone status, before this update. I don't see why HTC would update the FOTA client if they didn't actually plan on sending us the 2.1 update soon. Probably takes a few days though.
Be patient
Hi,
I did the clock tip and got immediatly the update message. Download and installation went fine. Rebooting took about 10 minutes, so be patient and let the update do its work.

"SE Update Service" Updates. Latest 2.10.10.9

Now its 2.10.10.9, anyone lucky?
History
------
I make this thread, so anyone can follows the tools update in forum.
Just notice by today, its updated to version 2.10.9.13
Downloading now, and hoping it will updates my phone to 2.1.
Oh god...
Dude, the update is for the program!
I know, but you see that most of the firmware updates we have, requires us to have the update service updated as well. its been like this. Its not hurting anyone to check out anyone to download update service and try.
The SEUS update has been out for quite some time
well yesterday or two days before i checked. and i usually checks every 2-3 days.
last time the version is not this one. its 175 or 715 in the number, i don't remember.
anyone i post updates here, people willing to updates their SEUS, and may also checks if there's any FW updates can try. if some country turn out to be the first get 2.1, that is good. if no one get 2.1, life goes on. earth still spins and the meteor that comes to hit us someday will not change course.
The best thing about this new version of software update is that you don't have to remove your battery anymore, just turn of the phone and wait at least 30 sec
And yes it is 2.10.9.13 and the old one was 2.10.7.15
LE: 2.1 not out yet, just tried and says i have the latest (026)

Second that, It has been out at least since sunday night(that was the time I saw it)
i just got agitated a bit. hehe. nowadays, people open threads and find posts which are not useful to them, they get offended like someone killed their cat or bricked their phones.

its always been the same. you don't even have to wait 30 seconds, maybe 15 max.
With the old version the first step in SEUS was "turn off the phone and remove the battery for at least 5 seconds". Now, with the new version, the first step is "turn off the phone and wait at least 30 seconds"

Yet another update

So two updates in one week? What's going on over at Amazon? I'm on 8.4.3 now. First there was the update that left rooted KFHDs with a black background, and now another update. I've tried using Bin4ry's root, but it doesn't appear to be working. Once my device reboots, I can't open any apps. I'm going to try again in a little while. The strange thing about this update, is that it doesn't appear on Amazon's website. The most recent update they're showing for the KFHD is 8.3.1. This is pretty weird stuff.
Going back to update 8.3.1
