Rear Facing Camera Problems - EVO 4G General

My camera opened up as a black screen and then closed a few times. Now when i open the camera app, only the forward facing camera opens. Will not even show the option to switch cameras. Does anyone know about this problem? Lazy Panda S-OFF, Vipperrom

Samsung Epic on Sprint?

Saw this phone at the Sprint store the other day and really liked the version of Android it was running. Seemed like the icons and display were more vibrant and it also had the weather inside the notification menu. Is there anyone who has ported this over to the Evo or is it even possible?

This.
what a great thread to start my morning with
Watcha talking about willis, well the epic my young friend has a different kind of screen its called super ambled , it also has a different version of Android its called touchwiz and its designed by Samsung the phone itself its better hardware wise my girlfriend has it , but as far as I can see the evo has 10 times the support c:
lol he's not talking about touchwiz. he wants the bright screen that epic has. That's called super amoled, and is hardware based. Unless you know where to get these with custom kernels for the evo then... no

Now now... to be fair he is half right.... super amoled and 2.1
Type amoled on your evo and see what the auto correction does, and ofc I know sense is a user interface same as touchwiz, but I'm trying to educate a noob if I explain it the way you expect me to explain it, he would be in the same boat as he was before h started this thread, and yeah its not a different version of Android ofc, but hey if I made your day good for you. So happy I could start everyone's day off with such humor. Guess I shoulda lurked in the shadows and searched it when I left work but was curious. Thanks for the replies and info. I mainly wanted something similar to the notification bar with toggles and weather but knew there was something different about the display. Anyway, thanks for the info...

that might be coming in cm6
If I understand this correctly, there's a downside to superamoled's color vibrancy - incorrect color reproduction.

My wife has the Epic 4G and I cant use that phone for more than 5mins or so. If I do my Evo looks so crappy and washed out. I agree, that screen is gorgeous (color reproduction faults and all.)
The closest you can get on the EVO is Myn's ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=793471
Install that and turn the brightness up.
This thread made my day! Thank you!
And yeah, no one will port touch wiz. Try an alternative home on the market, there are a few good ones mentioned above

Flash Mod for camera

Just wondering if anyone has thought about adding a flash to the camera. Don't know if or how it could be donebut there a people here a lot smarter than myself in these types of things.

I never thought about it. I'm fine with what I have.
Discussed many times in the ffc thread. Never attempted though. Care to be the 1st?

Yeah I'd try...on my wife's Vibrant first though
Sent from my SGH-T959 running Bionix Fusion Core V1 using XDA App
I have no use for a ffc but a flash, that would make this phone ab?out perfect. Is the hardware available? This is one I would like to try.
...
I'd love to try this if someone could tell me how!
Could have used one at last Saturday night's Halloween party. Totally forgot that it didn't have one. Was thinking of my Nokia E63.
I'd be all over this. It is beyond me how a high end handset such as the Vibrant is released with no flash function essentially rendering a great camera useless at night.
Until someone actually figures out how to hack a LED onto the back of the phone (?), there's always this:

What I have a hard time comprehending is why someone would buy a phone that lacks a feature they consider essential. Maybe a life lesson?

And the answer is that I wanted the best phone I could get. My other choice at the time was the Evo but I sacrificed a flash for 48gb of storage and slightly lower TMobile mmonthly bill. The flash is a minor issue and I was only curious if anyone had modded one on the Vibrant.

how about taking the entire camera including the LED from a fascinate or a European Galaxy S and doing a little hacking of the back cover??
And while at it, taking the FF camera form the I9000 too?
I'm sure someone can come up with a software mod that will work.

get a cheap case(the silicone? ones pry would work the best) and hack it up so a small LED can be placed near the camera with a button or switch that will be on the back of the phone.

European Galaxy S doesn't have a flash.
Doesn't need it
With the software I have loaded in my phone i really have not needed it or missed. There is a low light setting and it works well enough. If I want more then i ll bring my Nikon

this kind of response annoys me so much. I don't care what kind of software you got loaded. It is no replacement for a flash. Try taking a picture of people while out at night in bar lighting. It ain't good. Not unless you're taking pictures of statues using a tripod.
Have a friend with a phone with good camera take a picture of the same thing in low lighting using flash and you with your fancy software then compare. Not even close.
Who wants to take their Nikon around everywhere with them?
Still a mystery why some models have it and others don't, but regardless, anyone know of an add on case/cover with a light? I know they were made for the original iphones...

[Q]Android with no Camera(s)?

Any Android phones with no cameras coming to sprint in the near future?
Just wondering as the fiance would like an Android phone, but her work doesn't allow camera phones.
Though non-camera phones aren't as popular, I know a lot of people that need them due to work.

i don't know of any phone out there that doesn't have a camera now, i'm sure there may be something, but as for android, i would bet they all do.
on a side note, where does your fiance work, Area 51, lol.
would they allow the phone if the camera is completely disabled?
if so, you could remove the apk.
Call Sprint and ask. AT&T sells them but you done see them on display in stores you have to ask. We sell the HTC tilt with or without cameras as well as a lot of Blackberries.

A friend of mine works as a DOD contractor and is not allowed to have any camera phones any where on the property. He got smart and just cracked the phone open and took out the camera on his Hero. He rocked it till this summer and then got the Evo. He took both cameras out of it and has not had any issues. In fact he does it for most of his co workers and managers. Crackberrys and HTC phones are both very easy to remove the cameras from and they meet DOD requirements.
She currently has a BB with no camera, but the phone is garbage.
I'll ask her if they will allow a phone with a camera if it doesn't work. Removing an APK is easy.
Out of curiosity how did you (fried) remove the front camera of the EVO? I suppose that's another option as well.
I know its verizon... but they are going to release a droid pro sans camera...
Can you just put duct tape over it lol

Get a 004 EVO and run CyanogenMod 6.1. Cameras don't work.
Just dig the camera out brutally with a screwdriver so it's unmistakeably disabled
better than the alternatives
Yea the camera has to be physically removed. Might wait for the EVO Shift and see for her.

Then you don't have a 004, because the drivers for the 004's new camera were never added to the kernel. I'd know, I worked with Toast and Cyanogen on it.
The only other explanation is that you have a 004 with a 003's camera... Which is a serious flaw somewhere.

The hardware version doesn't directly relate to the camera model according to many people in the CM thread. Many people have the camera working fine on 004, while others do not have a working camera.

blurry incoming text message pictures

Hi peeps. I got my new ns today and no matter who I get a picture text from, the picture is really blurry. I even took a nice picture and texted it to myself. Still blurry. We have a cliq, 3g slide, vibrant, and a nexus one at my house. I receive blurry pics from all of them. Is there something wrong with my phone?
maybe your carrier downgrades the pictures?
1)try emailing it to your computer and see if its blurry. If its clear its your carrier/mms setup
2)try texting a picture from your n1 to ns and if its blurry its your carrier.
if all that fails maybe its defective.
Na its normal... the screen is bigger than the picture intended. Works good on 3.7 inch screens but everything above that kinda gets un focused or pixelated.
All of the phones I listed above are active on the same tmobile shared family plan. They can all send clear pics to each other, and I can send clear pics to them.
I just did a test, and have the same issue.
I just called tmobile to check on things and everything looks alright they say. They also told me it sounds like a phone issue, not a service issue and referred me to samsung. Well of course they are closed right now but here's the number:
888-987-4357
Please post any updates or if this is also happening to you. Thanks guys.
I need to keep tabs on this one. Let us know what Samsung has to say about this one.
BTW, I tested it with both stock, and handcent, and have the same issues with both.
I'll update tomorrow after I talk to them.
In the meantime can we get some other ns owners to send pictures to themselves and have some friends/family send a pic to them? Post results here?
Has anyone tried getting an image sent to them and then downloading it to view in gallery or on a PC?
Any difference in quality?
Have the same problem

I did try this too. I just forgot to mention it. The quality is just as bad.
I know some leaked Froyo builds on the Galaxy S Vibrant had this issue.
On my Nexus One
I just updated to a newer Cyanogen version and it worked. I think this is software related not really carrier or hardware.

Or at least some more info? You used the cyanogen camera?
I'm kinda sure all android phones do this. I know my G2 also has burly contact pics. I've read it's because of the google sync.
